View 9 Replies View RelatedI need to order a replacement dvd for my vista ultimate coz its scratched badly. I know how to contact microsoft but im uncertain of a few things
I want it to have sp1 already on the disc so i dont have to spend ages installing it everytime i want to reinstall. Do vista dvd's come with sp1 already integrated on them nowdays?
Also, do i need to ask for ultimate retail version, or are all discs the same? I ask coz my version of ultimate asks me to chose which version to install if i dont input the product key.
just 15mins ago just decided to play with a "shiny thing" that happened to be my store bought copy of Vista64 Ultimate. It now has a great looking crack in it I have the case with the certificate of authenticity and the product key on the yellow sticker, will MS replace it (if there is a shipping fee thats fine). I dident buy it directly from MS, got it from Ofice Depot I think many months ago. I did register with MS when I first installed it, so they can verify its me.

View 3 Replies View RelatedThis has been one of the most demonstrated features of Windows Vista and also one that I have been asked the most about how to use it.
Keep in mind that your computer must support the DWM for this feature to run. If you are running Aero Glass right now, it will work perfectly for you.
Launch Flip 3D:
Just press and hold the Windows Key + Tab. Then use the scroll wheel on your mouse or the up and down keyboard arrows to navigate through the windows. When the window you want is on top, release the Windows and Tab keys.
My girlfriends laptop is having issues. its a gateway m-1617. her hdd failed so I replaced it with a working spare I had from a hp vista laptop. specs were the same so I thought it may work. but I am unable to re-install vista on it. the hdd is recognized in bios but when I get into the vista install screen there is no hard drive located to format. Do I need to order an EXACT replacement for the OEM hdd or can I make this one work somehow? Or is there possible other hardware failure??

View 0 Replies View RelatedWindows Vista Basic sp1. Im using a 3rd party firewall program. In Administrative Tools---Services it shows Windows Firewall status as Started. But, in Security Center it shows my 3rd party firewall being On but Windows Firewall being off. Also, in Administrative Tools---Windows Firewall with Advanced Security is showing Windows Firewall being on in Domain Profile. Is this normal? Why would one show Windows Firewall as On and another show it as Off?
View 9 Replies View RelatedWould be interested in Forum's comments. I had a 9800 GX2 card that failed about 11 months into the 1 year warranty (after an agonising 4 weeks of trying to find out what was wrong with my machine!) The shop I bought it from replaced it FOC with a new single GTX260. When I queried them, that this didn't seem a fair replacement (I would have thought two GTX260's SLI'd together was fairer, their argument was:
The 9800 GX2 was no longer available as a new card The second hand 9800 GX2's are about NZ$400 (I am in New Zealand) and the new GTX 260 is the same price. The GTX 260 performs as well as the 9800 GX2 I am not unhappy with the GTX 260, but I feel kind of ripped off. NZ has pretty strict Consumer protection laws, so I will explore those as well, but my post here is to find out if this sort of replacement is common where high end cards fail and are no longer available.
What is the term used to describe a replacement hard drive from a manufacturer which already has the OS and other software installed on it? Someone told me it was "bricked" but that doesn't sound right.

Cuz Im using Windows Firewall, (the one in Control panel) but I dont really know if it is really enough, cuz Im using a router with out wires. View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm really at the end of my tether with this issue - have a laptop which has windows Vista installed. Whenever I boot up the Windows Firewall is turned on. However, towards the end of the boot process, the Windows Firewall turns itself off, almost as if when a program loads it knocks it out. Is there anyway I can do a walk thru' of the boot up process so I can see if I can capture which program or process is doing it? At my wits end.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have a Acer notebook. It had Norton security already installed. I removed this recently and put a AVG anti virus on. This seems to be fine. What I am finding is that when I turn on the computer the Firewall is off. I then reset it to on but again it is off on start up. This did not happen when Norton was installed.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI need a firewall & AV protection, I'm kinda settled on getting: COMODO Firewall and AVAST. 'm looking at Comodo Internet Security v3.3 only the firewall part and then the free Avast whic has caught everything for me in the past but on XP; now I'm using vista ultimate 32bit. I wanted to run it by here first to see if anyone has good/bad experience with the two programs running together.
How is Vista firewall compared to the freebie standards like AVG and Avast? I have Avast running on my Home Premium 32 version, but the built-in one is running too, which can create conflicts.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm looking to Share a folder on my Vista Ultimate machine. I want this folder to be accessible via the WAN. Simply put, is this possible? I have not found information going either way right now.
Firewall is using Windows One Care
What I've tried:
-Enabling File Sharing.
-Enabling Public File Sharing.
-Enabled Firewall exception for File Sharing.....
I don't want to do this via VPN connection Basically I've tried all I know. So I'm assuming this can't be done, security reasons for this?Probably. I can't even telnet into the above ports to see if it will accept the connection. RDP with port forwarding works fine as does Web Access. Reason? I do programming at both Home and Work, but would like a centralized location of where the projects are stored. If I could get to my Home PCs Shared Folder using the UNC path, that would be great.
I installed ZoneAlarm Firewall and after that my PC stopped responding. I`m using my PC in safe mode. And when I turn it on on normal mode, my PC loads and then it stops responding. I can`t use System Restore because System Protection is turned off.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI'm running Vista Home Premium SP2, 2 GB RAM, SAS, MBAM, CA (California Associates) AV (e-mail scanning disabled); Avira AV/Update scheduler, CCleaner, and Windows Firewall, WLM on an Acer Aspire Desktop machine.
The system is running just great, however, I've always wondered why I need both the CA and the Windows firewall running at the same time. In CA I can create a list of website that are allowed thru the firewall, but I'm not sure if I can do that with Windows firewall.
Is it OK to disable the CA firewall permanently? Is there a way to specify
what is allowed thru the Windows firewall. And lastly, should I just uninstall the whole CA suite altogether?
How do I disconnect the firewall.
I have certain web sites that I cannot access using Firefox and I'm thinking maybe this is the problem.
I'm currently running McAfee Internet Security. Yesterday I was talking to my computer tech who said he didn't like McAfee and recommended the free version of AVG and windows Firewall.
View 9 Replies View Relatedi'd like to know details about the vista firewall. Does it now indeed block incoming and outgoing? i assume microsoft didnot create the firewall for nothing. View 9 Replies View RelatedCan anyone help me with uninstalling Comodo completely? I have uninstalled using windows and everything seemed ok. However, using Security Center, Comodo is still showing as installed. Have tried using Revo Uninstaller and also a registry cleaned. Have also tried Scans with Spybot and Adware but it still sits there in an 'on' state. I have tried to reinstall Comodo but get the message that 'Comodo is already installed and would I like to uninstall now'.When I click ok to uninstall the box disappears but nothing else happens. So it appears that I am stuck with this firewall but there is no way to access it as the only reference to it is via Security Center. The next step is throwing the window......can someone please assist in this. Not too technically minded so worried about any remedies involving regedit or cmd !
