Couldn't Hdmi The Hdtv Lossless Crystal
Feb 15, 2009
Got something on my mind that has been bugging me for awhile I have my system hooked up via optical digital to my 7.1 surround sound amp for sound. For video output, DVI from GPU card via HDMI to HDTV. Couldn't I just hook up my HDMI to my amp then another HDMI to the HDTV?? This would eliminate the need for the optical wire, and maintain a lossless crystal clear sound, and still provide the 1080p picture.

I had windows XP pro and i bought windows vista home premium upgrade, when i went to install it it said that i couldn't upgrade it. So i followed directions on how to do a custom clean install, where you install vista without typing in the product key and without getting updates then you pick what OS you have and do the custom installation, then you install again (2nd time) and choose upgrade instead of custom and go through the process again.
The problem is after installing it the first time, I couldn't connect to the internet, so I couldn't install it a second time. I have an ASUS PQ5 PRo motherboard and when i start up there is this thing called express gate, in express gate I can use the internet but not when i enter Vista. When I put in the PQ5 Pro DVD vista says it can't open it. Also my XP PRO may have been 64bit, and now I am on Vista32 bit and the disck wont work.
I think the internet is a driver problem, if i go to the asus website on a diff computer and get the ASUS drivers put them on a USB and then open them on vista should this work? WHat drivers do I need? Just the LAN one? Also if the Asus DVD wouldnt start up will that mean that I wont be able to open the drivers on the flash drive too?

Please could you help. I have a Hitachi 26" HDTV that I have connected to my PC via a HDMI - DVI cable + stereo jack. The picture is fantastic bit I have no sound at all. I have connected up using RGB cable, sound is fine. I have asked around and apart from people trying to sell me extra cables costing £40-£50 I have not had much luck. I think I have 2 motherboard (sorry not very tech minded) one is M3A motherboard and the other is K10N78hSLI-GLAN. I have checked all setting etc, volume on all is up. I have Realtek High Definition Audio.

I have been Googling for the past few days trying to find information about how to use a Vista Ultimate PC as a DVR. Specifically, I want to make it a dual-tuner over-the-air ATSC (DTV) DVR my ancient VCR. So far, the only TV tuner card I have found that mentions the ability to play back to a TV set is the Hauppauge WinTV-PVR-350 card, but it appears to be a single-tuner NTSC card. I need a dual-tuner ATSC so that I can record two DTV broadcasts over the air at the same time.
Either an internal card or USB device is fine. Is anyone out there doing this with a dual-tuner card or USB that can play back the recorded show to an HDTV? Apostrophes: when in doubt, leave them out! You will be correct more often
than not.
Its = Belonging to it. For example, "Look at the sky. Its color is blue."
It's = It is. For example, "It's hot today."
It's = It has. For example, "It's been nice talking to you."
Its' = completely incorrect usage. Stop it!

A pal of mine with low sales resistance went out and against advice, bought a Wal-Mart special; an HP Pavilion "Slimline" with No S-video and HDMI outputs. According to the specifications for this HP S3713W, the video/graphics are all on the motherboard .
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01623239&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&lang=en&product=3870526
Furthermore, though there is in her "Slimline" one available slot provided to accept a "replacement" graphics card (for whichever model would have such a card) according to the manual, it will accept only "low profile" cards, and even at that they warn it still might not fit, so as to allow the inputs and outputs be exposed at the opening.
And since for her computer, this would not be a card replacement, those "cables" and plugs they refer to would be who-knows-where on the motherboard, or even hard-wired to it.
So now I'm wondering about something like this RGB to S-video
converter . . .
http://www.js-technology.com/product_info.php?products_id=34
My friend is largely blind, but she can see images and text on a large screen. My question is this: would such a converter enable video output from her computer to a large 42" LCD HDTV--and if so, would the mouse function be operative on that large screen same as on the 19" LCD monitor that came with her computer? Most importantly, would she get a full 42" display of her desktop and applications?

I would like to use my Vista Media Center as a DVR using a Media Extender. I have digital cable (Comcast). I would be using it just to watch recorded shows on my HDTV using a Media Extender and would not be watching TV on my PC. I want a HDTV tuner card that will record programs from my digital cable using Media Center Software, not proprietary software. Any HDTV tuner cards fit this bill? Can be PCI or USB cards (my PCIe is taken by my graphics card.).

Monster Ultra 800 HDMI Cable
Viewsonic 2835M (1920x1200 max resolution)
Nvidia 8400M GT 256MB Dedicated / 1GB shared
Sony Vaio Laptop VGN-FZ290
Vista Ultimate x64
Nvidia driver (laptopvideo2go.com): 7.15.11.6369
Problem:
When using HDMI connection instead of VGA, the font quality is blurred and distorted. I tried at least 4 different brand new hdmi cables and know for sure it is not the cable NOR the laptop NOR the monitor itself. It is a setting somewhere along the line. I've tried this on 2 laptops, 2 monitors (same brand/model), all same issue.
I set resolution to 1900x1200 and tried 1900x1080 (both 32bit). No normal quality at all. VGA is fine, but I prefer hdmi for higher quality - at least once I get it fixed. I tried 59hz and 60hz,

I used to connect my HP Pavilion dv9260nr Notebook to my Sharp Aquos LCD tv through an HDMI cable and got audio and video w/ no problems. About 2 months ago I reinstalled Vista Ultimate x64. I haven't tried to reconnect until recently and now I get video but no audio.
I have tried to set SPDIF Interface to default like I used to but it doesn't work. You can see the green "mixer" bar moving, but I can't hear anything. Also, when it's set to default the configure box is greyed out.
I have the latest Conexant High Definition Audio Driver, 4.33.1.61.
I also have Vista Codec pack v511 installed.
Seems like I need to "enable" hdmi somewhere but I can't find anywhere to.

I got a Sharp TV, 32" LC32GP3U-B (1080p full). I connected an hdmi cable from my laptop (also 1080p full) to the TV. My laptop screen dropped to Vista Basic theme in 16bit color mode and I can bring it back up to 32bit. Why is that? Inside my Nvidia control panel I was unable to change color depth. I cannot view on the TV display if I use single or clone mode. Everytime I try to set it to single or clone mode, it reverts to laptop display instead. Why?
A strange problem, when configuring Media Center, I chose TV as output. Now the color, contrast, gamma, etc is perfect on the TV itself and Media Center interface. However, when viewing the test videos to adjust the settings, the video is nearly black, dim, yet the interface to Media Center is perfect, so is viewing regular TV mode (w/o hdmi to the laptop) and even when HDMI is plugged in, quality is superb when using programs displayed on the TV. I did choose hdmi as connection type in MC, but why is the video so dim?.........

1. Will the image quality be any better?
2. I mainly play games on my PC. Will using the HDMI be better or worse?
3. I have a HT Omega Claro + audio card. Will using HDMI effect this audio card?
My video card is a Sapphire 4870 card. I virtually know nothing about HDMI on PC's.

I just got a Dell Utrasharp 2408WFP. I'm very pleased with the monitor but have read that, as it's an S-PVA panel, input lag will adversely affect games performance.
Also read, maybe on this forum, that a DVI to HDMI adapter will greatly improve things.
I have such an adapter cable.
Can anyone confirm that it would be better than the DVI to DVI I'm currently using?
I am connecting to a BFG 8800GTS OC 512MB which has 2 DVI ports so should I use it in addition or instead of the DVI to DVI?

I just bought an Acer Aspire AX1300 with Windows Vista Home Premium 32x and an Nvidia GE 8200 video card for storing data and, more importantly, to play shows and movies through my 1080p Mitsubishi HDTV. It is connected through native HDMI and the cable is high quality and works perfectly fine with my Gateway laptop to the same TV.
The video looks great as long as the screen is static, like on the desktop or surfing most websites. But as soon as any motion or video is displayed the screen starts to frequently flicker every couple seconds, and sometimes cuts out to black completely for 3-5 seconds, until the TV picks the signal up again........

I do not get the full screen output on my TV when connected via HDMI. This is very frustrating. The TV itself works fine in full screen (1080p, 720p, 480p, etc). I DO get full screen output on any Linux o/s I test it with, via hdmi. However, I prefer to use Vista instead in order to use MCE and the plugins I have (Netflix, Joost, etc plus MCE remote). I duplicatedt this before and after upgrading to Vista SP1. I've duplicated this with many WHQL certified NVidia drivers as well. Literally at least 5-10 different driver versions for my 8400M GT card.
I cannot figure out why it is not showing full screen output, but I can confirm this happens in Vista only, not Linux (did not and will not test in XP). My index score in Vista is 5.0. It was actually 5.3 at one time, then dropped to 5.1 and 5.0 over few months span...........

I recently bought a HD Camcorder. I bought Pinnacle Studio Ultimate to edit my film. I am able to connect my camcorder to my laptop using USB, but the software doesn't recognize my camera. It says I need to use Firewire or 1394 port. When I hook my camera up with HDMI, the camera and computer do not recognize each other. I know the HDMI works, because I've used it for my TV. I am not sure what the Firewire port is, or if my laptop has on?I much rather use my HDMI port. Is there a way I can get my computer to
recognize devices hooked up through HDMI ? I am using Windows Vista.

Which is the maximum length for using the HDMI cable? Ok what i want to do is. I will like to connect my PC Graphic card Ati Radeon 3870x2 with my HDTV Samsung LE40A656F1 1080p 100Hz LCD 50,000:1 Both are 1080p capable and they have HDMI. But they are in separate rooms, the distance from pc to tv is 50ft long.
1)Is there any problem to use 50ft long HDMI cable?
2)Is there any <<special>> HDMI cable for 1080p?
3)Which is the best brand for the best results?
4)How do i know if my HDMI cable is 1080p capable?
(The main usage for my pc is gaming in 1920x1080 resolution and watching HD movies) I forgot to write that i already have 1 connected tv in my graphic card and i want to connect a SECOND tv in the SECOND hdmi of my card. Is that ok? i will find any problems in picture quality, sound or anything else? The purpose of all this is to play(1920x1080) games in my room, and watch 1080p movies in the living room. How i enable the second tv view in my card? (Btw i found a 15metres HQ hdmi cable) is that a good brand?

Here is a run down of my set up and something interesting at the end.
My main PC in my office has 6TB of drive space. It stores about 200 DVD's of my 1000 collection. I have 4 XBOX 360's in my home and my home is completely wired in cat6.
The movies are stored as mpegs so the 360 units can stream them. I use Media Center with MyMovies2 for the collection interface. I was never happy with the picture quality and loss of bonus features with the mpegs. So it was time to build a killer streamer. The HTPC I just built , specs below, is to stream from the 6TB PC as well as play any discs I have not ripped yet. MyMovies2 also has the ability to stream Blu-Ray and HD-DVD ISO files when used in conjunction with Power DVD, AnyDVD and Daemon Tools.
HTPC:
Asus PQ5-EM Motherboard-Intel G45 Chipset onboard HDMI Video /Audio
Intel E8600 CPU
ADATA DDR2-800 4GB
Asus Blu-Ray Drive
Currently the Asus P5Q-EM is running Vista 64, MyMovies2(client), AnyDVD, Daemon Tools and Power DVD 7.3.
If you open up available HDMI Audio Devices I have 2. One is the Intel that Actually works and the other is a Microsoft that says it works, but even if I set it as default it gives nothing. So the Intel HDMI Audio is Default.
I have it configured to 7.1 speaker set up.
In this Set up Power DVD and Media player work great. I can stream Blu-Ray and play anything at all in 7.1 or 5.1 what ever the source has to offer.
Now in Media Center I go to configure the audio set up and the first question it asks is what type of connector are you using for audio. RCA, SPDIF, Coax ETC but no HDMI.
Whatever I choose give me no audio in media center and the videos will lock up in about 1 minute.
So I start the set up and then cancel. Once you lose the audio it is gone for navigation within Media Center also. Restarting Media center gives you back your navigating audio.
Now if I go back to Audio Devices available and select Intel HDMI and change it to 2CH. I then get full audio and 5.1 from the mpeg movies through Media center. But now Blu-Rays only give 2CH no matter what, whether streamed or from the disc.
Ok, here is the funny thing. After playing with settings and drivers for awhile, I had the Intel HDMI set for 7.1 and then tried Power DVD both from disc and streaming Blu-Ray, worked perfectly, Tried Media Player with the Mpegs, worked perfectly, Opened Media Center then My Movies2 and loaded up a Blu-Ray stream, It worked perfectly. The I loaded up an mpeg movie in my movies and it played perfectly in 5.1. I then tried several mpegs and they all worked.
What I found is when you go into Media Center, If the first thing I play is a Blu-Ray stream it somehow tells media center how to hook up correctly to the HDMI Audio. Once I stop the Blu-Ray stream I can play any movie I have stored on the 6TB server with no problem through Media Center. Once I close Media Center it goes back to wanting 2CH. As long as I play A Blu-Ray first in Media center then everything will work like it is supposed to.

When I try to play video or audio files on Media Center through the TV via HDMI, the video and audio is very laggy. It also sounds sort of static like. When I play CD's or DVD's the problem is resolved. Also, when I unplug the HDMI, the problem is resolved. Also, when I minimize Media Center, the problem is resolved. It only happens when the HDMI is plugged in and Media Center is Maximized. I have searched all over and have not been able to find a solution to this problem. I have tried changing the HDMI cords and changing the HDMI input on the TV. I've also tried to use a different TV and no luck.
