I changed my monitor refreshment rate from 60 to 85.. now all i get is an error screen and I have no idea what to do. i was told to reset the whole cpu, but i have so many datas that i can't lose.

I've been reading around for quite a while now, looking for an answer to my problem with no luck in sight (so far). I've recently upgraded to Vista using a dual boot setup with XP. I have a 42" Sharp Aquous (1080p) display through DVI-HDMI. In Windows XP, using the default "Plug and Play Monitor" driver, I'm able to use 75Hz or 85Hz at 1920x1080 (which the monitor does support). In Vista however, with the "generic pnp monitor" driver, it won't allow anything other than 60Hz, regardless of the 'hide modes' check box. Now, some people would say that 60Hz should be fine for an LCD monitor, but here's the problem. With 60Hz, for some reason, the actual screen display size is somewhat smaller than the actual screen size (about a 1-1/2" border all around) which was the case in XP as well (issue with the sharp display i suppose). In 30Hz, the display size is perfect (just as in 75 or 85Hz), but at 30 it becomes very blurry and terrible with any motion on the screen. So basically, I can only use this monitor at either 75 or 85Hz.
This has to be a Vista OS problem (and not at fault by the ATI display drivers). I've read that some people have had similar problems with their CRT monitors as well. Some have suggested using refresh rate forcing programs, but since they were all made for XP, none of them work in vista (I've tried reforce, refreshlock, pstrip and reschange). how to remove the 60Hz cap, or make a custom monitor driver that will allow it?
just got some games loaded and I used to have ATITray Tools which would let you keep the frame rate and temps in the corner during game play, anything like that for Nvidia? Just ran Quake4 at full specs and had Nvidia performance control panel turn the fan to 90%... but would like to monitor the temps and frame rates on this and other games. 9800GT 1GB. ( as soon as the new card arrives.... back to ATI tools.

I was wondering however I followed the steps set out for specifying the default screensaver, yet it can still be changed. I only have one account on my computer and it is the administrator account. My OS is Vista Home Premium x64. Is there a way I can lock it to a specific screensaver so it cannot be changed?

I started having numerous problems a couple of weeks ago, including: Screen resolution was changed, Clear Type and User Account Control were disabled, computer would stop responding temporarily of lock up completely, blue screen at boot up or computer would boot to recovery console, monitor would be on at boot up but would not come out of sleep mode. Finally last night the key board and mouse (both wired) stopped working. I changed the mouse and keyboard to ones that used usb connectors and was able to boot up again, and this keyboard and mouse work, but still having performance issues (hanging, 3D screen saver runs jerky. I tried to run Trend Micro Housecall but could not get to run. I tried to update the Nvidia drivers several times and my computer would shut down before the installtion was completed everytime. I would get a blue screen with the notice that the computer had been shut down to protect it from damage. Norton 360 found nothing. I have since uninstalled Norton. Ran AVG, nothing.

I changed my screen resolution in order to better view a video. When I changed it back, the Send/Receive window that shows incoming and outgoing mail popped up far to the left of the Windows Mail window, instead of right above it where it has always been. I re-started the computer, but that did not fix the problem. I want to get the Send/Receive window to pop up where it used to--it is currently nconvenient for viewing.

I recently tried to click on my " recently changed" link on the left side of my documents screen, and got this messege, " The item " recently changed.search-ms" that this shortcut refers to has been changed or moved, so this short cut will no longer work properly. Do you wish to delete this short cut?" I dont remember deleteing it, and was wondering if anyones seen this before. I'm not really sure if I need this shortcut, but was just wondering if I messed something up inadvertantly. I just recently added a 1TB HDD, but I dont think that had anything to do with the missing shortcut. I have a tendency to do a "delete sweep" in what I thought were like the old temp files...didnt realize this was a shortcut to actual files. Should I try to get the reently changed short cut working again?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI just installed a ATI Sapphire 4830 DDR3 Video card.My motherboard has on board video,ATI 4200?? I booted up was still using on board video.I uninstalled ATI drivers and software. The screen blinked and changed to 88x600,looked like safe mode.It said to restart.I booted up and no video.I tried onboard and new card.I know it is booting into windows.I can hear the music. I tried getting into bios,will not go to bios.Now the screen probably is asking do I want to restart windows or Bla Bla Bla.
What can I do to get some video back .I do not care if it is onboard Just before I deleted drivers I looked in Device manager and did not see the new card.Probably because of drivers not installed??It should of shown The PCI-2 slot.No??
I have a problem with this graphic card, when I run a game with better graphic details. My computer freeze for 2-5 second, next is black screen for 2seconds(as monitor is shuted down) and next is black screen while i don't stop the game. Next I see this-> I hope that you solve my problem(and see that image) BTW: if this problem was solved on this forum sorry, but on system instantForum i was never been and i don't know how it control. Or if this post is in bad category please send message for me when you move it.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a EnVision G218a1 22" widescreen, only had it a year, all of a sudden the screen went black so i rebooted, the system info screen showed up but only for 2 seconds then went black, the system continued to load but black screen. I hooked up another monitor and everything works fine, the EnVision G218a1 is under warranty, should i return it or is there a solution for this?
View 5 Replies View RelatedEverything was rosy until I installed the PowerDVD to play a movie. It asked me to update which I did then it gave me an error message that dreamscene had been changed, although I had no dreamscene playing in the background at the time. The player came up with an error message that when I followed instructions from Cyberlink didn't go away. I decided to uninstall the player, and it took out the registry in some form for both of my disc drives as they no longer showed up in My Computer. I only knew of one solution which was to reinstall Vista, and probably a lot of you out there are now holding your heads, but I did.
All went well with new installation, all latest drivers, and Vista updates reinstalled and tried Powerdvd again - same problem. Dreamscene has changed, and an error code from player (I think it was 8004014, or something close). I then thought I would uninstall the graphics card drivers and try to reinstall them after player. When I did I noticed for the first time that Windows Updates hadn't offered me the Service Pack 2 Update nor any of the Dreamscene Contents Packs (My Windows cd is Service Pack 1). However on uninstalling the Graphics card they all suddenly appeared so I installed them again. After reinstalling graphics, and Powerdvd I still had the same issues as originally had. No use uninstalling as it takes out disc drives so went into Bios to change start up priority and did a clean install of Windows Vista after formatting drive. Totally clean install ? Well I think so, or as near as I know how. I then reinstalled all the drivers for the system as supplied except the graphics card which I downloaded from nVidia. I religously installed each and every Windows update individually in chronological order when it asked me, and it did not show me the Service Pack 2 update, nor did it offer me the Dreamscene Contents Packs 2/3/4. It did offer me the Dreamscene download and it comes with the 1 background option. I don't know if this book I am writing should be posted in here, but it seems to be general to me, and the question is how do I watch blu-ray movies, on a Vista Service Pack 2 OS, with all the extras such as Dreamscene I should have after spending the monies on a system that is not the highest of specs, but well up there - I think. Jeez not written that much in a long while.
I have finally found out why my monitor/Screen kept blacking-out during use, it was a simple mistake that could be made by any-one and I would like to share this small problem with those that have had the samw problem. The problem was I wasn't down-loading updates of Windows Vista regularly and this was causing the black-outs. If any one else has been in this position you may keep quite and allow other not so smart people, like myself suffer frustration and anxiety to the fullest. I would like to hear from any one else that has been in this situation.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI’m running Vista x64 with a 24” wide screen HD monitor with 1920x1200 native resolution. (Check my System Specs for all my hardware.) However, I can only get full screen with 1280x720. Any higher and my screen shifts to the left and I lose about 1/3 to ½ of my available viewing area. Anything on the left side of my task bar is gone, including the Windows (start) button. If I go to my native 1920x1200 res the text is so small it’s virtually unreadable (along, again, with losing a third of my viewing area). What’s the purpose of having this monitor if I can’t get it to display the full screen with readable text? I’m guessing I must be doing something wrong.
View 6 Replies View RelatedEver since I switched to Windows Vista Enterprise Edition 32 Bit I have been having some problems with my dual-monitor set up. My computer is a Fujitsu Tablet PC and is about 2 years old, and my external monitor is a Samsung SyncMaster941BW. For some reason once I go and use the intel display options and set up the extended desktop everything appears to be fine. However when the Windows Vista security screen pops up asking for you permission for a specified action it gets rid of my extended desktop and just kicks everything back to only my laptops display. This also happens when restarting the computer and doing "Ctrl + alt + delete" to open the task manager. It is extremely frustrating and I was wondering if anyone else had this problem? I am not sure if it is just a problem with vista or if I need a new driver since updating from xp, even though my computer says it is the latest driver for the monitor.

My Screen Saver starts fine after 3 minutes of inactivity - I'm using the built-in My Pictures Slideshow that shows personal pictures & video clips. But the monitor never turns off even though I have it configured to auto-power off after 30 minutes of inactivity - it just stays
on all day running my screen saver. If I change the screen saver to a different one the monitor turns off after 30 minutes like it should. The problem seems limited to the My Pictures Slideshow screen saver. This is troubling because this same configuration worked fine with Windows XP (the only difference was that XP's My Pictures Slideshow did not include videos - it only showed pictures). Is this just a bug in Vista or is there something I can do to resolve the problem?
whenever i enter a game in Cs : Source it lets me stay in for about 1 min then my monitor freezes and crashes to blue screen (error nvlddmkm.sys) or comp stays frozen.. i have to restart the hard way.

The bottom of the screen normally contains the"go"or"do it" button when "publishing" a movie. On my Samsung wide screen monitor that button is BELOW the bottom of my screen. I've tried different screen resolutions. how to make the screen smaller height wise? I have tried to adjust the vertical position of my monitor, but that adjustment only moves the screen a small amount. I am at the max resolution of 1068 x 1050. Other resolution choices seem to drive the bottom of the screen even further down.

First of all, if I start my computer without an external monitor, the screen just blurrs completely and I have to shut it down. With the monitor, nothing happens, but I dont think its a laptop any more if it does this thing. That partially fixed, I too have the SVCHOST problem. I used the svchost analyzer and Security Task Manager, but all they show me is that I have around 7 Svchost processes and they only use 10-15% of CPU. Its very peculiar because I NEVER had this before and I have my laptop for around 3 years. Checked all instances, every svchost is in the Windows System folder, so I ruled out a svchost virus. However, even when I shut down almost everything else, still 90-100% CPU. I just cant understand it.
View 9 Replies View Relatedi want to connect my pc to my tv using hdmi and also keep my desktop monitor using vga but be able to view both screens identically. my mobo is a gigabyte ga-73pvm-s2h and im using the onboard nvidia geforce7100 /nforce 630i graphics. at the moment the only way i can connect tv and monitor is by using the nvidia control panel but i cant set diferent resolutions for each screen and run them both identically so whichever screen i set as the main is fine but when i look at the second screen res is wrong.. is there a way to have both screens running simutaneously with different resolutions(my monitor is 15" and tv 32")or a setting in windows to allow this rather than having to change the main screen all the time?
View 9 Replies View Relatedsince i formated and reinstalled vista home primium 32 for the first time with this pc im getting very low frame rates on most games. they are fine for about 5mins and then the frame rate drops to 5-20 fps for a short time, afterwards its fine for 10secs only to drop again. ive noticed it on some streaming videos too but not in Internet. ive tried...reinstalling, installing xp, using older drivers, using new ones, checked the fan are working, downloaded system monitors, took a stick of ram out, swapped all the ramround,tried playing with no sound, messed around with the dna settings, turned graphics down and a few other things thats not coming to mind.
View 4 Replies View RelatedWhen I play Dundeons & Dragons Online my framerate varies between 20-60 in populated places and 100+ only if I stare at the walls. This seems too low. I was getting better framerates running XP on a AMD 3800+ x2 with a 7600GS. I've tried the nVidia 169.25 drives and the 171.20 betas from guru. Not much difference.
Is this a Vista 64 problem that will be fixed with SP!?..... or Is this an nVidia driver problem that will be fixed with later drivers.......or Is my power supply too weak?.......... or Is DDO the problem?.......... or Are my expectations too high?
I added a second monitor to the GeForce 7100 GS using a DVI-VGA adapter and for the life of me cannot get it to display anything, the monitor is just in sleep mode. I've got the latest driver, Windows is up to date, checked the cables, tried another adapter, tried everything but, still nothing. The second monitor shows up in the device manager and in the Nvidia control panel. It's enabled and set to extend desktops. It seems the system knows it's there because I can move the mouse over, but cannot see anything. The power light on the second monitor just flashes. I've swapped monitors over, to make sure there's not a problem with the display and it's fine. When I do that, the main monitor is then plugged in to the DVI adapter and then that one goes to sleep. Just seems whichever monitor is plugged in to the DVI-VGA adapter just doesn't want to work........

My progress Bwr keeps dancing left & right, calulating time remaining (always lying by a huge marging unlike WinXP), but it's not too important. Important is that data transfer rate jumps from 16Mbps down to KBs periodically as it scans thru multipel files. All it can fast is copying a SINGLE large file, even that estimating time remaining and progress bar are not as good as in WinXP
This is one of the 500 admitted bugs Microsoft admits to in Vista and its a beauty. I hate to keep harping on the same point, but it makes absolutely no sense to me how such a basic function not just gets screwed up, but WHY Microsoft would ship Vista with such a obvious bug in it. It totally trashes their reputation. Oh wait, we're talking Microsoft. We know their reputation. Ship and fix later. Everybody knows whatever version of Windows we're talking about WAIT for the service pack before most of the bugs are out.
i have only one monitor, and somehow it is being treat as though its the secondary monitor in a dual monitor set up. i cannot view my start menu, or view any programs being opened, as when i try to open them, they presumeably open on the phantom primary monitor. even when i try to open display settings, i cannot see the box. i am able to move my mouse to the left border of the screen and move it off into oblivion, and occasionally drag random folders and short cuts over to view.

We both regularly clear Temp Internet Files, and now only have programs installed that we use. There are only myself and my boy who use this PC, the other 3 kids have another to use, and between us we only have aroung 6 gigs worth of stuff on it, photo's and music mainly. We even took it back to the original factory settings earlier in the year due to this problem, but it started happening again almost straight away. I have AVG installed for anti-virus and Comodo firewall, after trawling the net I get the impression that this is not a virus-based problem but a setting anomaly?

When I am typing it suddenly does something (maybe called a flicker) and the curser ends up somewhere else on the page.... (and the letters get typed out of place). I have my monitor set for 1024 X 768, I tried to raise the Monitor setting screen refresh rate, but it is set at 60 Hertz and there is no other option for it. If I increase the pixels there is still only 60 Hertz setting option. What is this problem and how can I get it fixed. Getting tired of screwed up text.

I keep all my sidebar gadgets to the other monitor so I can monitor temps and system diagnostics. Today, my sidebar is on my main monitor and no mater what I do it won't go back to monitor-2, no mater what the setting is in the sidebar properties. What is going on here?
