In the sound pop up from the control panel I was trying to change the default speaker, but accidentally disabled it. Now the speaker has disappered from the playback devices tab and I cannot get any sound out of my speakers. How do I enable my speakers again? Its a laptop, so I think it's the internal speakers I've disabled
I accidentally disabled my speakers and headphones in Vista Home Premium. I tried to enable them, they aren't even listed in sound devices. I'm on a HP G60 laptop. I went to control panel, clicked on sounds. Then i got a window with 3 tabs but no speakers or headphones anywhere. The volume icon says there's no sound device installed. I'm about to freak out!
I bought a set of speakers for my laptop and in the process of trying to get them to work I seem to have somehow disabled my internal speaker. Now my computer keeps telling me that I have no audio output device installed. I'm not sure how to get things working again - either the newly purchased external speakers or the internal one which has worked just fine up until now.
This is insane. SP1 is installed and gave me no problems but now I have been reverted back to hell. Even with no UAC enabled I can't rename C:Windowsotepad.exe to notepad.default.exe so I can replace it with NotePad++. So what's next if I am not an Administrator when logged in?
I occasionally get a rumbling on my speakers the volume of which doesn't change if I slide the volume control up or down. It disappears as myseriously as it came. What could it me?
I'm using a USB tuner (Avermedia Volar x). It is compatible with Vista x64 (I'm using Ult). The tuner works fine, the tuner program works in Vista x64, channels are tuned in, and I can watch TV. However, I've just noticed, that if I leave power options on balanced (the default), the audio is fine. But, if I change it to power saver, the audio (when I watch TV on the tuner) goes out of sync. I tried changing USB settings to disabled (under advanced power settings (under power saver), no change the audio is still out of sync.
I need to change the default ICS IP address 192.168.0.1 when sharing my Internet connection with other machines as I have an IP conflict with the cellular modem that I cannot change. Is it possible to assign a new network range for the dhcp server for the local network. If so, probably in the registry. Does anyone know of this?
Autoplay for my avi files is quicktime, which can't run avi. Is there any way to change the default player, and not have to right click 'open with...' every time? I tried changing the autoplay default for video files in the control panel, but to no avail.
I have downloaded a icon package for vista with very smooth icons. I know how to change a program or folder icon or a indivudally file icon in the items properties but how do I assign a new icon to be used as a default for example word documents, mp3 and such o all my mp3 files and such are showing the new icon? If it have something so say I'm using vista 64 bit ultimative sp1
I suspect there maybe a simple answer to this, but for the life of me I can't find how to do this. My default font was changed about 2 weeks ago (long story as to how and why) to something that looks like GEORGIA or LUCIDA or something similar, and was forgotten to be changed back. So every webpage I open, every menu option, is all in this new font which I dislike.
My laptop has two hard drives. C has Vista on it and along with updates it's almost full. D drive is much larger. I'd like any new programs to automatically install to D. Is there a way to do that?
I have vista with ie7 and Maxthon installed. Once Maxthon was installed and set as the default browser all of the shortcuts to web pages that i have (i.e. favorites folder) and a few on my desktop all use the maxthon icon. I am able to manually change them back to the "e" icon by right clicking and changing icon. What i want to do is set it so that every NEW shortcut i create, as well as the old ones automatically use the "e" icon instead of the Maxthon one.
I recently bought a back up drive, but its default action - when I double click it -isn't 'open'. How can I change this? also, how do I change what comes up in the right-click menu for it?
How would you go about changing the default install directory. I just freshly installed vista x64 and was wondering how to change the default install directory from Program Files (x86) to just Program Files.
I understood this question might have asked hundreds of time. I searching from last two hours but couldn?t find my right answer. I was able to change all default icon of desktop except internet explorer. C:Program FilesInternet Exploreriexplore.exe
I have two versions of Eudora on my PC but only one (Eudora 8 beta) is recognized in file folders that contain *.jpg files (as of today).
Before today, I would highlight a JPG and click on Email at the top of the open folder. Eudora 7.1 would come up and all I had to do was put in an email address. I should say that I use Eudora 7.1 with two sets of data - one for me and one for my wife.
However, my wife's version would come up which is what I want. As of today, Eudora 8 beta comes up when I click on Email. I have no idea how the association changed.
I also don't know why my wife's version of Eudora 7.1 used to come up instead of mine.
There must be a way to reset the association. I tried resetting the association in Internet Explorer - but only Eudora 8 beta is available as a choice. That's another problem. Why isn't Eudora 7.1 a choice in file associations in Internet Explorer 8?
I have IE8, Windows Vista and Windows Mail, which shows as my default mail and only email address.
I would like to have my Hotmail address as my default mail, but Windows Mail will not allow me to add Hotmail. Wizard error says it does not support HTTP and I cannot see anywhere under Hotmail options/more options where it allows me to change any type of connections to POP3.
I read it can be done in G-Mail, but unfortunately I have Hotmail.
Is downloading "Windows Live" and uninstalling my "Windows Mail" a solution?
I have all my mail forwarded to Hotmail, so I wouldn't lose saved messages.
I want it to default sort by name and not size and I want it that way for all folders I open. I find that some apps use the windows protocol and it is annoying having to change it there too. I was able to do it in XP and 2000 but it is not as intuitive in Vista.I want it to sort by name and I would like some other view tabs instead of what's displayed. I know how to do that by adding sort (tabs) by right clicking but how do I make it universal and how do I make it stay that way?
I found a tweak on tweakvista a while back that changed explorer to always open in explore mode, so no matter what folder I opened, it was always in explore... in xp I changed this setting in folder options, under the folder types, but I can't find this setting anywhere - I have searched and searched, but I can't find this tweak again!
when you write a new message in Windows Mail - by default it starts with Arial fonts. Can you change this default to your own particular liking and save it, so when you start a new message,it starts with your choice automatically?
In particular, when saving an email attachement, in this case a word file, the default location is the Documents folder. How could I change this in Vista so that whenever I do a Save As, it points to my, lets say, Temp folder instead?
I download several .zip files a day, and when I extract them, the default destination folder is Documents. Is there any way to change the default to another folder? I am using Vista Home Edition.
how to change the default setting of the Recent Items on the Start menu from alphabetical to date order in Vista Home Premium. I did it on my desktop a year ago- I seem to recall it was a Registry change- but on my laptop I'm stuck with the useless alphabetical order.
This is the Context Menu that I'm referring to, accessed by Start>Pictures>[Open a Folder to display thumbnails], Right-click on Thumbnail. With my current settings [where?], if I select and click on Edit, MS Windows Paint opens as the Default Editing Program. I don't like Paint at all, and want to change from that current Default Program, to allow my Pictures to be opened and edited by Picasa. Is there a method by which I can change that Context Menu, so that by clicking on Edit, the selected thumbnail automatically opens in Picasa And before anyone leaps in and suggests any other editing program from the plethora of others available [eg. Photoshop etc.], please don't waste your time - I'm not interested in them, as Picasa fulfills all of my basic photo editing requirements. Basically, I'm looking for a shortcut to open Picasa with just one click, as I'm aware that I can also get there through Open with, in the same Context Menu.
When I am browsing pictures in my picture folder- jpegs, there is a preview option, that lets me preview the image. I want to change the default which is Windows Photo Gallery, to Adobe Lightroom 2?? Is there a way I can do this? I looked in control panel/default programs, but Adobe Lightroom 2 is not there? Only Windows Photo Gallery?
I can't seem to change the association for "DOC" using the Vista "Default Programs" utility. Is there an effective, hopefully free utility to do this? The utilities I've found work great with XP, but not Vista.
