I occasionally get a rumbling on my speakers the volume of which doesn't change if I slide the volume control up or down. It disappears as myseriously as it came. What could it me?
View 4 RepliesA week back, while vista was installing a few updates on my laptop (Sony Vaio VGN-NS130E / Vista Home Premium 32-bit with SP1 running on Intel GL40 Chipset ), I happened to close the laptop by accident. Next time I logged in I saw that the update had failed (obvious.). Soon after I realized that there was no sound from my speakers, but I can still hear very feeble volume through the right channel of my headphones. These are the steps that I have done in an attempt to fix my problem (in the same order as I did it)
1. Rolled my system back to the immediately previous System Restore point (one created when the system was fine and these updates were not installed.) - No luck!
2. Checked, if my speakers were set to default. - They were.
3. Tried recording using Sound Recorder - the file plays fine on other machine, plays on mine but with no sound.
4. Reloaded the driver for the inbuilt sound card. (Realtek High Definition Audio)
5. Installed the latest Chipset Drivers for my motherboard.
6. Checked for the latest audio driver for my laptop model from Sony , installed it. - No luck!
7. Used 'Microsoft Fix It.................
No sound: it's just not working, and whenever I try to change the volume from the taskbar, a window pops up saying "Volume Control Applet is not responding". Also when I right-click on the sound icon and go to 'playback devices' and then go to the recording tab, it freezes (the window) and says "Windows Shell Common dll is not responding. (I don't know if this is related but my iTunes isn't working, I double-click to listen but the little time bar at the top doesn't move at all, but the window does not freeze)

Now the speaker has disappered from the playback devices tab and I cannot get any sound out of my speakers. How do I enable my speakers again? Its a laptop, so I think it's the internal speakers I've disabled
View 7 Replies View RelatedRecently had a Computer problem and for no reasons I had been asked to reintall Norton AntiVirus. Then my com sorta had flashing digits and words during the restart. After it the sound menu sorta spoilt? Whenever i click on it, it just opens up and immediately closed.I tried accessing the control panel too, but it couldnt work.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have two highschool daughters with laptops they use at school running Vista Home Premium. I have them running on user accounts and I don't want them to have the admin password because if they know what it is they will simply start typing it in all the time, which defeats the whole purpose of running as a user account. There are only two things they need to do that Vista Home Premium UAC doesn't seem to allow without the admin password - connect thumbdrives and connect printers. They need to do both of these things at school.
Is there any way to disable the admin account security only on these two tasks? Also I can easily upgrade to Windows 7 Ultimate. If Vista Home Premium can't do it, would upgrading to W7 Ultimate enable me to potentially resolve this security problem? Thumbdrives are the new CD/DVD so it seems really shortsighted not to have a CD/DVD-style security model for them.
The CD/DVD drive used to work, but now doesn't. I don't know of anything changed since them. No drive is recognized and I can't open the drive once Vista takes over. I can open it while it's booting. I searched the forums and found something about deleting the upper and lower filters in the registry and followed that. My registry had three "Control Sets", ControlSet001, ControlSet003, and CurrentControlSet. I was able to delete the upper filters in sets 1 and 3, but there was no upper filter in CurrentControlSet. None had lower filters.
That slightly changed the problem. Previously the CD activity LED stayed off, but now it's always on. However, the drive still doesn't open, and nothing is recognized. I went to the device manager and I didn't see any optical drive. And one other interesting thing - When the laptop wakes up from screensaver, the CD/DVD drive starts spinning and won't stop. Still can't open the drive, and it's still not recognized.
Vista 32 & Nvidia Is there anyway to set "Horizontal Span" across two monitors? Burnout Paradise has the option to run 1,2 or 3 monitors but requires the Horizontal Span feature. The Extending the desktop to a second monitor setting does not work. Basically I need something that will allow me to set a 3300x1050 desktop resolution across both monitors. I've tried creating a custom resolution in the Nvidia control panel but that didn't work. For those that will suggest Ultramon there isn't a Horizontal span feature that I could find anyways. Browsing Google for an hour or so just came up with others looking for an answer as well. Just thought I'd come to where the smart people are and ask.
View 4 Replies View RelatedWould be VERY useful if under the "show" drop down window, include "My threads" so user doesn't have to check email for updates. Yes, I could do a search for for my posts, but that requires additional steps for something that may result in no changes or if I just wanted to check quickly. If there are instructions someplace on how to do this, then another suggestion would be to put the Q&A in the FAQs. Its so hard to find info on many MS & related sites, that you have to prepare yourself that you won't find the answer on the first try and expect it to be a time sink, therefore unless its stopping you from completing an important task, some may not want to takes the time and keep getting frustrated until they are ready to take the time.
View 4 Replies View RelatedMy system was working perfectly, but I disconnected and removed my HDDs to clean them and then re-installed them. I have an ASUS P5W DH Deluxe motherboard. The last time I installed Windows Vista on my system it went to my new SATA HDD installed through the SATA1_RAID socket on the motherboard and not to my primary IDE harddrive. After I re-installed all my HDDs, the system boots correctly, but my primary harddrive doen't appear in Windows Explorer, nor in the Computer Manager's Disk Management window. The primary harddrive does, however; show up in the BIOS, just not in Windows. I would like to access this HDD and my data stored on it. Why did I loose the connection to it and what's the solution? I reconnected the same harddrives as I had connected before.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI used a program (Flashget) to download a wmv tutorial onto my desktop. When files like these are downloading they have two icons, the actual file icon and a white 'in process' file which disappears when the actual file has finished. For some reason in this case the white icon remained (believe the file download failed to activate) I have tried many things and nothing deletes it. The file has no bytes and Windows tells me "This is no longer located in C:UsersMeDesktop. Verify the item’s location and try again."
I have tried refreshing the desktop, rebooting, using various system registry cleaners, used Move on Boot, MalwareBytes, R Wipe and Clean, Wise Disk Cleaner, Unlocker etc etc. I have also tried renaming the file (not found), renaming another file with the same name and popping it onto the desktop (this doesn't work because its called "filename.wmv." and the period/full stop at the end keeps getting corrected when I try to change another file to the same name). Actually I have now managed to rename an icon with the same name and Vista allows both of them to exist at the same time. I've therefafter retried deleting and renaming the troublesome file all these options have failed.
Im not sure if I should put this under update probelms or what, but Im highly confused. I downloaded the Malicious Software Removal Tool, thru Windows Update. (Not a pop up online) After it was done with the update, it restarted my computer, and when it was done, I discovered that it had UN INTSALLED the speakers. The new software hadnt even run yet, so I doubt it had anything to do with that. When I click on the volume icon on my task bar, it says that there is "No Audio Output Device Installed"
View 9 Replies View Relatedso I've been trying to trouble shoot this for awhile...I've uninstalled and installed drivers, rolled back drivers....For some reason I am not getting any sound from the rear jacks (green to monitor) or from the headphone jack. System is a HPa6303w running vista home, using realtek HD Audio. My 'digital output' is set as my default playback, but when I used an RCA cord to 3.5m plug I still have no sound. I can't configure the speakers cause the system is not seeing them...is there any way to 'activate' the analog playback?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI recently switched from XP x64 to Vista x64, and my speakers (nor headset and mic) no longer work correctly on this computer. I've tried uninstalling, reinstalling,updating, and changing all the settings multiple times, but I couldn't get them to work correctly.
The only time I can get my speakers (and headset) to make any sound at all is by plugging the speakers into the "Center/Subwoofer Speaker Out" plug. However, they play only as the center(left) and subwoofer(right) then. (This is while the Speaker Configuration is set to "5.1 Speaker", and I only have 2 speakers and 1 subwoofer.)I can't seem to get any sound out of the "Front Speaker Out" (green plug).I'm using 2 left/right speakers that connect into a subwoofer, which uses only 1 plug into the computer.I was able to get both speakers and headset to work at the same time when using XP x64 and Windows7, but nothing works in Vista. (I cannot recall if I was using the "Front Speaker Out" plug when they were working, but I have tried all other plugs in Vista.
I just bought my new Creative T7900 speakers which is 7.1. I have DP35DP Media series board with a built-in 7.1 sound card that has a driver from SigmaTel (default). The problem is I can't use my 7.1 speakers. The only speakers working are the two front speakers and the subwoofer when I play Windows Media Player 11 and Windows Media Classic Player, but when I ran a test on the config settings of SigmaTel, this time 5.1 speakers worked (excluding the side pair speakers). That I discovered, the audio cable that was included in the T7900 package is for 5.1 speakers only. One end of the cable has 3 pins and the other end has 4 pins which is standard for 7.1 speakers (Black for rear speakers; Lime-green for front speakers; Grey for side speakers; Orange for center speaker/subwoofer). But when I checked the quick installation manual, the cable included with the package is correct (3-pins : 4-pins). I only want simple thing to happen. I want my T7900 work on my PC that has built-in 7.1 sound card.

I managed to get sound through the speakers again by doing many removal of the different drivers/codecs but now I just cannot get it to sound through the speakers. I get sound all the time through the headphones jack but it is a hazzle to get them through the speakers. Why is this?

I don't need 4-7 speakers with sub woofer, etc as I have all that with my older XP system but, I'd like to find some decent ones for the newer system with Vista Home Premium. Can someone steer me in the right direction for speakers for this system? They don't necessarily have to be Dell.

View 4 Replies View RelatedIn previous OS I've pluged in my mic and go 'test test' and I would hear myself, in real time, through the speakers. Vista does not do this apparetnly To make matters worse, the mic will not feed through the stereo mix (because it wont come through the speakers?). I definetly have all this enabled, all hidden things revealed. I've rolled back teh drivers for the sound card, updated them, updated them again, shut down, restarted, tried a million different settings and STILL no mic for stereo mix or speakers. I can see the green bars going when I speak, and it works in programs like skype.
But this stereo mix is a big problem. I similcast an internet radio and TV show. In order to broadcast the audio from the music videos I play on the TV show over the Shoutcast radio server, I need stereo mix. However, I also need full use of my mic because a tv and radio show without a mic is pretty boring. Has ANYONE found a solution to this problem or should I just downgrade to XP, which runs my audio settings without hassle. I have Vista home premium 32bit on a toshiba laptop with a realtek high def audio soundcard. I am trying to use front jack mic but there is also a built in mic.
I am currently using XP and I can't get my speakers to work. They are plugged in, have power, but the computer can't detect them. I don't have the install discs for either my sound card or speakers. What can I do besides get new speakers or a new sound card?

the speakers are plugged into the back green hole, they work with my ipod and are being detected in control panel and device list.
the only thing i can think of is that the rear panel is not enabled some how, does anyone know how to enable it manually?
I have Logitech X-530 speakers, a 5.1 setup. Yesterday I wanted to use my headset to play a game, so I had to change my settings to stereo to get the sound out of both the left and right headphones. When I had finished, I changed it back to 5.1 through the control panel, but now the sound is only playing out of the left and right speakers. All speakers are functional, since when I test it through the control panel the 'bing' sound plays through all one-by-one. The speakers worked fully in 5.1 before I changed the settings. Windows Vista 32bit SP2.

I have my speakers hooked up to a Turtle Beach Montego DDL. I couldnt find any X64 bit drivers for this card, so i figured there had to be other drivers that had the same chipset......I was right. So i have different drivers for the card.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI like to use speakers for listening to music/radio and I like to use headphones when playing games (TF2, Counterstrike, etc). It would be really nice if I could swap between the two easily, but I can't seem to sort this out. Before I moved to Vista I could get a signal to both my speakers and headphones at the same time. However, when I upgraded to Vista x64 I also upgraded my motherboard (to a GA-P35C-DS3R) and it now provides Realtek HD audio. However it seems my case only supports AC97.
What I would like is either:
1. A physical switch to switch between them (preferred)
2. Both playing audio at the same time
I want to buy some Creative Gigaworks T40s to replace my old speakers. Also my old headphones have recently broken so I need to buy new ones. I am looking at some decent gaming headphones - either Medusa 5.1 ProGamer or maybe Sennheiser PC161. (Any better suggestions?). However, the switching thing is the real problem. Considering I am shelling out for new headphones and speakers I don't want to spent a huge amount beyond this - maybe another £50.
i can here music and all that but my friend had his computer so he could sing threw his mic and u would here him i want it that way on my pc all the site i looked at show another thing so idk wut to do.
View 5 Replies View RelatedThe other day my speakers (Logitech X-540) stopped working all together. They pop when I shut down and reboot, but in the speaker properties they are listed as unplugged. The Realtek HD control panel gives me an error saying that I'm using Vista drivers and to download the proper ones. I've downloaded the current drivers from Realtek (r2.02) and from Gigabyte and neither work. Is my next step getting a new soundcard for further troubleshooting or is there something I'm overlooking? And yes, I have checked to see that the speakers are actually connected to the PC
View 6 Replies View RelatedI accidentally disabled my speakers and headphones in Vista Home Premium. I tried to enable them, they aren't even listed in sound devices. I'm on a HP G60 laptop. I went to control panel, clicked on sounds. Then i got a window with 3 tabs but no speakers or headphones anywhere. The volume icon says there's no sound device installed. I'm about to freak out!
