In particular, when saving an email attachement, in this case a word file, the default location is the Documents folder. How could I change this in Vista so that whenever I do a Save As, it points to my, lets say, Temp folder instead?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am running Vista Ultimate on one PC and XP Pro SP2 on another. I am the only user and have full admin rights on both (I checked) They are connected by a wired home network. I can see and browse the XP PC from the Vista PC, install programs from the XP PC onto the Vista PC - no problem BUT.... when I am using the Vista PC and try to copy a file across from the XP PC I can see the file appear in the Vista folder (using drag & drop) but then I get the dreaded "Destination Folder Access Denied....You need permission to perform this action" you can only click 'RETRY.'or 'CANCEL'....of course RETRY just repeats the error window and Cancel removes the file that you have dropped into the destination folder. As I am the owner with full rights over the folder, does anyone know what this message means and how to set whatever 'permission' is required?

Destination Folder Access Denied, then I have to click Continue, then in user accounts control it says windows needs your permission to continue & I have to click Continue again. XP didn’t give me this run around, what’s the deal with Vista? I’ve searched but can’t find a fix for this.

I have Vista Home Premium, I am trying to add a Maxtor Shared Stroage II 320 GB Hard drive that is networked connected. I have installed the supplied software. The drive is up and running. I've set the folder options to "Remember folder views" and it still doesn't save. View 7 Replies View RelatedWhenever I go to save something, y'know right-click, save as... etc., there's an arrow to the right which will display the last ~20 files saved, ostensibly to make it easier to save files with similar names. (Incidentally there's extreme redundancy between that and auto-complete.) I would like to disable this feature, mostly because people are always snooping in my computer, as well as the fact that I'm always accidentally clicking it.
Of course, I can merely save many files in the same format to overwrite the one on the drop-down, but that doesn't really solve the problem of my accidental clicking.

In addition to saving my files on the computer I also save them on CDs. Recently a CD with very important files on it developed a fault, which resulted in the CD showing empty. The whole idea of saving files is that if my computer crashes (as it did, so that I had to reinstall Windows loosing all my data) I will still have all my files on the CDs, but if these fail as well how else can I save the Files?

I promptly went in and created two admin accounts (password-protected) one for me, one for the wife, which may or may not be advisable, I know), and separate accounts for four of our children (these were set-up as standard, password-protected accounts). I was logged into my account (admin) and helping my son with a Word document for one of his class projects. I tried saving the document to the Documents folder in his account, and got a message saying I wasn't authorized. If I'm logged in to an account with admin rights, I didn't think that would be a problem. At least that's how it worked with XP. What am I doing wrong? Can anyone suggest a fix? Is this a matter of

I have Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit. I can see the history when going through the star and then clicking history. It shows websites visited, UNLESS the person who visited them has deleted them from the history. I want to be able to monitor what my son is looking at, even if he knows how to delete from history by right-clicking in IE. reviously I had Windows XP, which would show the history by going through tools, internet options, browsing history, settings, view files. Even if the person had deleted the page from history while viewing, it would still show up using the method I'm describing. This doesn't work with Windows Vista. In fact, Windows Vista doesn't show ANY webpages that have been visited at all if you go through tools, internet options, browsing history, settings, view files. Is there some setting that I need to change to make it show the webpages, or is Vista incapable of doing this?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a new laptop with Vista Ultimate SP1. I gave my daugther an limited (user?) account on it so she could play some of the games. Every program I install also installs its icons on her desktop. Today I tried deleting the icons off her desktop and I get "Destination Folder Access Denied" and "You need to confirm this operation." The "Continue" button has a little shiedl sign on it, and it does absolutely nothing if I click on it. I can't seem to find anything in the help and Googling doesn't seem to turn up something specific. How do I delete program icons off her desktop?
Then, I have also noticed that there is a red shield in her taskbar area. I click on it and it has Windows Security Alerts (that I don't have on my userid when I log on to this computer). One issue in the Security Center says "Malware protection - Check Settings." There it says that Windows Live OneCare is active, but that Windows Defender and Spyware Doctor reports that they are turned off. FIrstly, I don't have this issue on my userid, secondly, I can't turn it on, it says her userid doesn't have sufficient authority
I need to change the default ICS IP address 192.168.0.1 when sharing my Internet connection with other machines as I have an IP conflict with the cellular modem that I cannot change. My default font was changed about 2 weeks ago (long story as to how and why) to something that looks like GEORGIA or LUCIDA or something similar, and was forgotten to be changed back. Once Maxthon was installed and set as the default browser all of the shortcuts to web pages that i have (i.e. favorites folder) and a few on my desktop all use the maxthon icon. I am able to manually change them back to the "e" icon by right clicking and changing icon. What i want to do is set it so that every NEW shortcut i create, as well as the old ones automatically use the "e" icon instead of the Maxthon one.
