When i on my computer ( Dell Dimension E520 ) for three hours, suddenly shut down my computer, But a start button keep on flasher. I tries to on it back after shut down, but in vain, i believe sometime do with power supply. because after next day computer can start again.
View 5 Repliesi dont have a shut down button in the start menu, the only option i have is to log off, or lock my computer, however in the other user accounts on my computer i do have a shut down button next to the lock button.
View 9 Replies View RelatedIf I go into start menu-all programs and click on one, nothing. If I click task manager, nothing and I cant reboot using start-shut down or restart. I have to manually close down the computer, i.e. unplug mains power, re-plug and re-start the box. Everything is then fine-for a while, but sure enough, it starts all over again, maybe 24 maybe 48hrs later. It's happened about three/four times in the last week. There's obviously some app either not working or having a fit of some kind.
View 7 Replies View RelatedMy computer was running perfectly fine about a week ago,but now its become 100% slower! I got Norton Internet Security 2009 and Spyware Doctor and used them both to scan my computer, solved a few viruses and that was it. I have no new programs installed,in fact, I'd removed some programs. (except for NIS 2009/Spyware Doctor(It was also slow before I got those)) It was still slow...it takes literally about a minute to open programs and about 5 minutes just to start up. Normally it would take 1-2 seconds to open programs and 2 minutes to start up. I really have no clue what to do right now and this is really pissing me off right now!

When I double-click on a Contact file, I get the popup -
Windows cannot open this file:

Asks me to use Wed Service or select program from list of installed programs.
Neither works. MS Web Services (amazingly) does not recognize .contact. And there's is no Contact program in the list of programs (or anywhere I can find on my machine).
Everything on my screen has suddenly been greatly reduced in size. I did nothing new. Tried rebooting to no avail.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI have a home network that consists off an XP Desktop, a Vista Desktop, a XP Notebook and a Vista Tabletpc. They could all see and access each other with no problem. The Tabletpc and Notebook both are connected by wireless while the desktops are connected by Cat5.This morning I went to use the Tabletpc and it cannot see either of the other computers and they cannot see the Tabletpc., regarless whether I am connected by wireless or Cat5. However, they can see and access each other fine. The other three computers can see and access each other fine.I have tried everything I can think of to get the tabletpc to recongnize the other computers an vise-versa to no avail.The last time I used the tabletpc on my home network was about 8 days ago and it was working fine. That night I was admitted to the hospital for a week. While there I connected to the hospital's wifi. Not sure if this changed something or not but other than that I have not downloaded any software, updates, etc.
first off let me give you the spec of my pc, im running Windows 64bit, MSI Dual Quadcore processor, 8 gigs of ram, 2 500gb harddrives, 2 gforce 9800vid cards and creative soundblaster soundcard. Anyways this problem has happened last time after doing ALL these windows updates, service pack 2, the whole works. MY harddrive light stays SOLID now, even when idle, I jsut got home from work after an 8hour day, and its still on? What is going on? I ran virus checks with AVG free editon that came with my pc, I keep everything up todate on a regular basis. Is this normal? It even sounds like I can hear my harddrive running, this is really starting to freak me out.

When I open Windows Security Center it shows the problem that Windows Defender and Spyware Doctor are both turned off. That's as it should be and as it has always been. I have BitDefender Internet Security 2009 and it shows "No issue affects your
computer."
I used an elevated command to check that WMI and it shows as consistent. So
why did this alert suddenly start showing up?
I know I can turn the alerts off, but I'd much rather find out what caused
this problem and fix it.

View 4 Replies View Relatedwhen I login to the one I use most of the time, I notice that Firefox wont work, there is no error, actually, it starts but nothing happens, its just blank, it says "Done" in the bottom left corner, but it is nothing in the Firefox window. And when I close FF I get a error;

If I chose the 1st option I get this message "The exception enknown software exception (0xc0000005) occurred in the application at location 0x02ff8cf0. Click on OK to terminate the program." Then I tried IE (32x), same thing there, so I try IE 64x, it worked. Also I tried to restart my switch, ping some webpages, release / renew IP. There was no difference. I also tried System Restore, but I could only restore to about 15 minutes back in time, wich was when I turned on my comuter today.
Then I tried to start some games to see if it worked, first Peggle Deluxe, that worked fine. Then WoW, that did not work fine at all. The first thing that is wrong is that when I start WoW the launcher says "Cannot connect to the News Server. Please check the network and try again later." I pressed play anyways, just to see what happens, and what happens is that the screen turns dark, Winamp is still playing music, but no sound from WoW, and alt + tab doesnt work, same with the windows button or alt+ f4. but ctrl+alt+del works. so I was able to close the program, it wasnt responding either ofc..................
I'm presently experiencing a situation in which my Internet connection (cable Internet) will suddenly and inexplicably come to a complete halt. This has absolutely nothing to do with my actual cable Internet connection; everything with the cable modem is functioning perfectly. Instead, just about every 24 hours I will reach a point in which my desktop system (Windows Vista Ultimate) will simply shut itself off from the Internet. I have absolutely no idea what is causing this. In the past, I have been able to go to the Network control panel and simply perform a repair of my Internet connection. This no longer works. However, restarting the system works 100% of the time. So basically I'm left with a system that functions for approximately 24 hours, then it must be restarted in order for me to continue using the Internet. Then of course the cycle repeats itself. I'm not using any third party firewall software by the way, only Vista's firewall.

3 days ago it suddenly refused to print When I look at the printer folder, it is default but it says it's offline I can't find out how to make it go online
From 'justanswer' I was told to do a restor, so I've tried going back a couple of restores, but they both failed, then had to undo the restores to get back to where I was
In safe mode I removed the printer then added it back by re-installing its software
sometimes vista asks me to say which port, but as it's usb plugnplay I dont know how to handle it I've tried resetting the printer from this website

Have a wireless router and cable modem on computer 2 in one bedroom. Suddenly computer 1 in another bedroom cannot connect to to internet. Worked fine until one morning. No settings were changed. Laptop has no problems connecting. Internal network device shows as working properly. Network is there - available to choose and connect to with all green bars but attempts to connect and diagnose suggest "low wireless signal quality." All recommendations have been followed to connect but nothing has worked. Computer is less than 1 year old. Is it possible that an updated driver for the wireless adapter would help? I am going to humiliate myself and ask the stupidest question ever - the same day it quit working, some very large construction equipment was parked in an empty lot next door to us. Could this interfere with any signals?

I have Windows Media Player 11 on Vista 64 Home Premium and everything was working just fine until all of a sudden I click on WMP and it does not respond which then caused problems with even shutting down the computer. I have rebooted I have tried scandisk and I have tried re-register of files such as regsvr32 wmp.dll and so forth and still no luck. I have also done a system restore to various times when I thought things were working just fine and still no luck.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have an Acer Aspire 3100 Laptop with the Windows Vista OS, AMD Sempron processor, 80 GB HD, 512 MB DDR2 (I can?t give any other info due to the fact that I can?t use the computer at present and don?t have any of the paperwork because I am currently out of the country); I?ve had it about 8 months and have only had minimal problems. However, the other day I turned it on to download photos from my cell phone to the computer, but when it turned on the cursor was frozen in the middle of the screen. I allowed it to sit for a few more minutes thinking maybe I didn?t let it boot up completely, but it never unfroze. I tried to use the keyboard to maneuver a restart with CTRL+ALT+DEL but the keyboard didn?t respond either. So I just turned it off using the power switch. I let it sit for a while and then tried a reboot. This time it worked. I thought I would attempt some troubleshooting so I did a disc cleanup and scheduled a scan disc to be completed on restart. Then I began the AVG virus scanner (which has been installed on the computer for over 2 months and not given me a problem) and a few minutes into the scan the whole computer locked up again (not just a program ?not responding?). I let it sit about 15 minutes hoping it would unlock, but it didn?t. The cursor was frozen in the middle of the screen and the keyboard was not responding again. I turned it off by the power switch and let it sit for about an hour. When I turned it back on the scan disc I had scheduled began running and when the system restarted everything worked again, but then I needed to leave so I put the computer to sleep and brought it with me. When I turned the computer back on a few hours later everything seemed to be working. I began working on a project and maybe 20-30 minutes into the project, the computer completely locked up again, cursor in the middle and no keyboard function. I did notice that the laptop was running a little hot at that point and from then on I have kept it in the coolest place possible and keep my house fan blowing on it as well......

Or in Internet Explorer click View-->Textsize, zoom, etc. Or any other expanding type of menu. Well, upto today it was predictable - next menu subwindow would popup on the right side if there's space between it and display's rightmost edge (or on left if there's more space on the left). But now they all open at random sides, one menu opens on left from the mouse pointer, next opens on right - unpredictable, no logic. There's enough space on the right but menu pops up on the left, and it's like alternating. One menu from the tip opens next menu on right, next menu from top (2nd) opens its submenu on left, despite rhaving enough space on
the right. This you might say is cosmetic. But there're many things we get accustomed in using our tools, including computers, that when behave erratically are not making me happy...
About 40% of the time when I either choose HIBERNATE or the standard SHUT DOWN, the computer just keeps on running. Although it seems WINDOW has shut down, the "ON" light is still on and I can hear the fan running. When this happens I am left with no other option but to use the "emergency shut down" method - pressing the ON button for more than 4 seconds (ASUS laptop, using Vista Home Premium). Presumably this method would damage the computer in some ways in the long run?
I assume WINDOW is shut down because the next time when I turn on the computer it doesn't say the "WINDOW is not properly shut down". So can any kind souls please help me with this annoying problem of turning off the computer completely?
all my desktop icons got suddenly changed to internet explorer icons,after (i opened some program in the internet,) then i did some personalisation then it changed to my adobe photoshop icon, all the desktop icons now shows the adobe,,icons.like all my programs which was earlier like (yahoo msngr, msn mesengr,windows vista programs,almost all other programs) and my internet wireless stopped working. i have a vista home premium 32. and my comp is asus f3t series. i was trying to do the icon cache, but couldnt find. tried restarting but couldnt solve.now trying to run my antivirus scan Mcafee. if anybody knows the solution to restore my earlier icons.

that after the disappearance of the windows interface, the computer would
still be on and I would have to shut down by pressing the power switch for a
few seconds.
When I do not prerss this switch, windows restarts after about ten minutes;
after I receive a brief report (which I never manage to read in full)
informing me that a software may not have been properly installed or that I
need a windows update.
This problem appeared long after I installed all the software that I use,
and I have checked whether I'm fully updated (I am).
Is there a way in which I can ensure this problem does not occur when I go
through the normal shut down procedures?
Not sure if this is a hardware problem or a Vista problem. I am however leaning toward ahrdware because this can happen sometimes during post.

I'll go to start, click "Shut Down" and Windows will close everything running like usual and go to that screen where it says "Windows is shutting down." Well, last night, instead of just forcing a power-down, I decided to see if it would shut down or not if left alone for a while, so I left it at that screen, and went to bed. I woke up in the morning and Windows was still at that point, and the circle was still spinning, which means the system hadn't frozen. Also, the num lock button still worked. I'm guessing something has Windows going for a loop when closing down processes.
