Aug 27, 2008Ive had my computer for about a month a before now its had sound perfectly. but yesterday the sound suddenly stopped working i cant work out how to fix it as im not very good at computers.

Laptop Keyboard And Mouse Suddenly Stopped Working
May 20, 2008I have an Acer Aspire 3100 Laptop with the Windows Vista OS, AMD Sempron processor, 80 GB HD, 512 MB DDR2 (I can?t give any other info due to the fact that I can?t use the computer at present and don?t have any of the paperwork because I am currently out of the country); I?ve had it about 8 months and have only had minimal problems. However, the other day I turned it on to download photos from my cell phone to the computer, but when it turned on the cursor was frozen in the middle of the screen. I allowed it to sit for a few more minutes thinking maybe I didn?t let it boot up completely, but it never unfroze. I tried to use the keyboard to maneuver a restart with CTRL+ALT+DEL but the keyboard didn?t respond either. So I just turned it off using the power switch. I let it sit for a while and then tried a reboot. This time it worked. I thought I would attempt some troubleshooting so I did a disc cleanup and scheduled a scan disc to be completed on restart. Then I began the AVG virus scanner (which has been installed on the computer for over 2 months and not given me a problem) and a few minutes into the scan the whole computer locked up again (not just a program ?not responding?). I let it sit about 15 minutes hoping it would unlock, but it didn?t. The cursor was frozen in the middle of the screen and the keyboard was not responding again. I turned it off by the power switch and let it sit for about an hour. When I turned it back on the scan disc I had scheduled began running and when the system restarted everything worked again, but then I needed to leave so I put the computer to sleep and brought it with me. When I turned the computer back on a few hours later everything seemed to be working. I began working on a project and maybe 20-30 minutes into the project, the computer completely locked up again, cursor in the middle and no keyboard function. I did notice that the laptop was running a little hot at that point and from then on I have kept it in the coolest place possible and keep my house fan blowing on it as well......

Dec 12, 2009Two days ago my LogiTech USB Wireless mouse just suddenly stopped working. I was using it when playing LoL (League of Legends), and just went to restroom and when I came back, it's not working anymore. I have thought that maybe it's just the batteries, and I've change it but still not working. I convinced myself that maybe it just died. I bought today a MS Wireless Mobile Mouse 3000, to my surprise it doesn't work. I've checked all my drivers and they we're up to date.

Sep 26, 2008The craziest thing happened my pci wireless antenna which worked fine 3 days ago suddenly stopped working, I start Xp and it works fine, I haven't had any problems before 3 days ago, I've completely formated the partition and re-installed vista x64 ultimate, And still doesn't work, Tried a static ip(which i didn't have to do before)|Also I work at a hotel with a wireless Access point, Then a gateway, then the modem, Does anyone have any idea whats going on? or what might've happened, The wireless properties say ip4 local and ip6 limited and media state enabled.

Sep 3, 2007My sound was working fine for months. I shut my pc down to go to a lan party... got there... no sound... Booted to XP instead.... Sound works.. When I got home... no sound in Vista....
Driver says installed.
Its not muted.
No errors in event viewer.

I had the Realtek Hi Def 1.75 drivers..tried reinstalling them...not fixed. tried installing 1.74...not fixed. tried new chipset drivers...not fixed tried new video drivers...not fixed Seems common on the web... yet not resolved yet?
USB Sound Card And Mic Stopped Working
Feb 26, 2008This is a Vista issue because the unit works fine on an XP machine. Vista seem to recognize it and install the drivers when it's plugged in, including the message that the device has installed successfully. The only thing I can think of is that the drivers are bad. I've remove the device from device manager and nothing seems to help

Mar 23, 2008Although the built in speakers in my laptop work perfectly - music, dvds, videos, etc. - my vista default sound scheme has stopped working. It was working previously and I am at a loss to understand why it has stopped. I have checked that the speakers are not muted, ensured that the levels are properly set, checked that I have the most up to date driver, etc., etc., etc. None of the sounds work, including the start up, normal alerts and so on. When I go to the sound scheme and test individual sounds they do not play, however, if I open the individual sound files they will sound in media player. I know there is an expert out there somewhere who will know what to do.

Jul 27, 2009when I login to the one I use most of the time, I notice that Firefox wont work, there is no error, actually, it starts but nothing happens, its just blank, it says "Done" in the bottom left corner, but it is nothing in the Firefox window. And when I close FF I get a error;
"Firefox has stopped working
1.Check online for a solution and close the program
2.Close the program"
If I chose the 1st option I get this message "The exception enknown software exception (0xc0000005) occurred in the application at location 0x02ff8cf0. Click on OK to terminate the program." Then I tried IE (32x), same thing there, so I try IE 64x, it worked. Also I tried to restart my switch, ping some webpages, release / renew IP. There was no difference. I also tried System Restore, but I could only restore to about 15 minutes back in time, wich was when I turned on my comuter today.
Then I tried to start some games to see if it worked, first Peggle Deluxe, that worked fine. Then WoW, that did not work fine at all. The first thing that is wrong is that when I start WoW the launcher says "Cannot connect to the News Server. Please check the network and try again later." I pressed play anyways, just to see what happens, and what happens is that the screen turns dark, Winamp is still playing music, but no sound from WoW, and alt + tab doesnt work, same with the windows button or alt+ f4. but ctrl+alt+del works. so I was able to close the program, it wasnt responding either ofc..................
Windows Explorer Stopped Working, Internet Explorer Stopped Working, What DOES Work?
Jul 25, 2008Lately when I've tried looking at different folders and files on my hard drives I keep getting "Windows Explorer has stopped working and will restart." It's driving me nuts, I can barely do anything.
Also, same thing with Internet Explorer...I'm getting real sick of Vista's shoddiness..

Is it not obvious by now that Vista has a problem, maybe a compatability problem, with everything from Internet Explorer and Microsoft Word to third party programs which cause programs, as I mentioned, even programs made by Microsoft, to "stop working"? Is there no an overall "stopped working" patch or something that Microsoft has released by now?...............
Programs Stopped Working :: CCC.exe Has Stopped Working
Feb 10, 2009All of a sudden some of my programs stopped working, for example catalyst control center is supposed to start as soon as vista starts, but now it gives me an error like:
"CCC.exe has stopped working"
Same with some others...
Yes i ran AVG, i ran malware, and superantispyware, none of them finds anything.
I cant even load daemon tools now, it gives me some error: "Engine loading was failed", cant uninstall it, it gives me another error, and some of the programs like netlimiter if i start them from my objectdock dock they automaticly stop working, only when i start them from the normal .exe they dont crash.

Nov 16, 2009Back in June I installed Vista onto my machine (prior to this I ran xp for 3 years and the sound worked). I was ok with the sound not working since I had a bluetooth headset which worked fine...It's starting to get annoying now. I have a gigabyte motherboard with AC'97 (ALC850 codec) on board sound card. The driver is up to date. I have the volume icon, and it shows my speakers in the play back device section. When I play an audio file, the green bar lights up on the speaker icon.
I can't find the thread now but I did try the suggestion of opening up the playback devices, right clicking in an empty area and showing all disabled devices...there wasn't any devices hidden. Hopefully I provided enough information, if not please ask. I really don't want to buy a sound card but it's looking like I might not have a choice.
64 5.1 Sound Not Working
Sep 16, 2007I installed the freshest realtek drivers to go with my IP35 motherboard and my Logitech x-530 5.1 surround still wont play the center or subwolfer speakers. In Vista-64s audio settings I played around with different configurations and did wire re-assigning that didn't work either, it seems people are having similar problems. Anyone have a fix for this?

Mar 25, 2010While trying to uninstall Comodo, I had an error and the computer froze. I shut it off and it wouldn't boot - not even in Safe Mode. So I used ERUNT to fix the Registry from a command prompt. Unfortunately, the latest ERUNT file was corrupted - so I had to go back about a week. The computer then booted, but I found many changes in some of my data and settings. Also, I cannot get the sound to work. I again used ERUNT from Windows with the same backup I used from the command prompt. All indications on the computer indicate that the sound is working. But when I try to test the speakers and microphone, I get a message which says there is no sound. I have uninstalled the two sound items in Device Manager and used find hardware to reinstall them. I even reinstalled the drivers. Device Manager says there is no problem with the sound items and they say they are working properly.

Mar 9, 2009When i had XP on my computer everything was working fine. I did an overlay of Vista and now any audio device with a jack won't work.. My USB headphones do... I have gone through all the playback settings, searched through all of control panel to do with sound. I have downloaded the necessary realtek drivers (High Definition Audio Device) and nothing. I have also tried plugging the jack in the front instead of the back. The speakers work on any XP machine... just having troubles with my vista machine.

Sep 13, 2008I have a problem, since I rebooted my computer, (I have windows vista) HP Computer / Since I rebooted, my sound works on the computer no problem, BUT the earphone jack doesn't work. Now, the computer sees the earphones, but it doesn't work, no sound comes-out of the earphones, I still hear the sound from the computer.
What can I do to solve this problem? I have tried everything, like I said, the computer read the earphones, but no sound comes-out, even if the earphones wouldn't work, the sound would be in the earphones but if broken, just wouldn't work. Now all the earphones I tried work, just no sound! .
Sound Card Not Working
Apr 6, 2009I just recently formatted and reinstalled Vista because i changed my motherbored and Processor so i felt like a new start. After waiting for all the Windows updates to finish i turned on some music and my Sound was messed up, i have sound it just dosn't seem to work right.On some ill be able to hear everything but the singer and on others and hear only the singer. This also effects games, i turn on my scarface seeing it was closest game near me and installed it, on that i can't hear Scarfaces voice, or the cars around me but i can hear other people speak. Does anyone know whats wrong with my sound? I use the soundcard that is built onto my motherbored because i have never had need of a Sound card in the past. my new motherbored is an MSI motherbored and my processor is Intel core 2 duo.

Jul 29, 2009Few days back, I was installing/uninstalling some programs. I don't know what went wrong, but I found the links in "Computer" are not working. When I open "My Computer" ("Computer" in Vista), all the links like "Device Manager", "Remote Settings" etc are not working. It says for "Device Manager" - "Windows cannot find '%SystemRoot%\system32devmgmt.msc". However, if I run the same command from a DOS window, it exists. This is same for all the other links.
My sound icon in the task bar is also marked a permanent red cross. If I open Volume Mixer, it says - No audio device found. But I can still hear sound.
Freezing, No Sound Working At All
Sep 29, 2007having no success with vista at all. It randomly freezes after a few minutes, even when just sitting on the desktop. Keyboard and mouse do not work when this happens. It has done this everytime i have turned it on. Have all up to date drivers and latest bios. The sound was working fine, but turned it on yesterday morning and now it has stopped working. When playing music, the equaliser when you left click on the sound icon in the tray shows activity, but nothing out of the speaker. Have tried reinstalling the driver but had no success, and also using different speakers.

Sep 1, 2009On my Auzen X-Fi Prelude 7.1 under Windows Ultimate 64-bit, I noticed that all audio recorded by my microphone (connected via 3.5mm jack into the sound card - I don't have this problem with USB microphones) would play back heavily distorted, as if I were speaking through a spinning fan. Anyway, I thought I would post a solution that appears to work for me (so far):
1. Right-click on the volume icon in the task bar and select 'Recording Devices'.
2. Ensure that the microphone is set as the Default recording device (indicated by a white tick mark in a green circle).
3. Select the microphone and click on Properties. The microphone properties window pops up.
4. Click on the 'Custom' tab and check the box for 'Microphone +20dB Boost'. This increases the microphone's sensitivity to sound..... now play back free of distortion - test this with a program such as Applian's Freecorder. While the sample rate setting appears to 'stick', I find that whenever my computer comes out of Sleep mode or reboots, the 'Microphone +20db Boost' check box goes back to being unchecked. USB Hub Stopped Working
Mar 5, 2009My laptop froze during a shutdown process and I was forced to turn it off by holding the power button down. Since then my USB hub seems to have stopped working; anything plugged into it doesn't even turn up on the computer even though all the lights on them are on (indicating they are receiving power at the very least). How can I fix this?
