Instructions to export contacts are to open the contacts folder - select Tools - select Export. However, when I select Tools in the contact folder I have only 4 choices - Map Network - Disconnect Network Drive - Open Sync Center - Folder Options. I cannot find the options to Import or Export anywhere. I want to export the email addresses so they can be used on my laptop running XP pro.
View 4 RepliesI tried to import my favorites from one PC to another. I got multiple Favorites folders. Then I delete everything in the Favorites folder and tried importing again. Now when I add to favorites, I see something totally different in the drop down box than what is left on my screen. The two are no the same. What do I need to do to make them the same? Does the export/import not work correctly?

The contact lists havent transfered....I paid for the software and the cable and everything...NONE TO BE FOUND IT INFORMS ME.... nowhere to be found even when I try to import/export.... also, the language is nowhere to be found.. when I try to do a spell check.. I actually hate this new vista and also all the changes to HOTMAIL. Who wants msn???not me... When I type in www.hotmail.com why should I write xxxxx@hotmail.com instead of like yahoo when all I write is my name not @ YAHOO.COM..its pathetic..then i have to go through another hoop and click on email to get to my hotmail.. But when I try to export them to Windows Vista Contacts I loose all information. My outlook 2007 is a trial version and will expire next time I turn it on, so I have to get it done today.

Many of the Outlook Contacts have extended characters, e.g. ?, ?, ?, ?, ?, ?, etc. The CSV file that I created from Outlook correctly displays the accented letters and the Spanish "?" but when I import the contacts into Vista Contacts, they display as gibberish.
Importing a vCard works but I have hundreds of contacts and I haven't been able to save all of them as a single file. Saving and importing them one at a time would take hours. How does one import contacts with Spanish and French names?

After quite some period of time the install program announced that it could not import my contacts - probably the most important aspect of my mail program!
It tells me to do so manually, with no instruction how to of course. I am merely told to point the program in the direction of my Winmail address book.

I've ad it set-up to read all in one place all my different e-mail accounts, I've got 3 hotmails, one g-mail and another different one. I just changed my Laptop, still got my old one as a back-up, and WLM was already installed on it and it's a newer version then what I ad, the latest version I think. I would like to know how can I import all my contacts, all my different e-mail accounts set-up, my save e-mails, etc without having to start all over again and enter everything manually, because I've got a lot of stuff in there.

For example, I want my yahoo.com emails and sbcglobal.net emails placed into different inboxes. I can't find any options under Tools/Accounts to specify this, and when I create a new folder, my only choice of where to place the new folder is under Local Folder.

1/ LDIF
I exported my contacts in Thunderbird under an LDIF format.
I then imported this LDIF file within Contacts
The import stops 1/5 of the way, simply saying that there is an error
in the contacts, and it stays stuck
2/ CVS
I exported my contacts in Thunderbird under a CVS file. I then tried to import the file within Contacts but cannot do the mapping:
- all column headings are lumped together, with plenty of ","
- all accentuated caracters are replaced by squares
Also, with the LDIF method, 50 contacts out of 300 were imported. In these imported contacts, all accentuated caracters were replaced by symbols. I opened the CVS file in Microsoft Excel: everything is fine.
I installed Outlook 2003 on my computer which has Vista Ultimate so I could use a Dell Axim. Now when I go to fax a document using Windows Fax and Scan and try to select a contact, Outlook Contacts is displayed instead of Windows Contacts. It won't let me choose to use Windows Contacts either. I tried using Default Programs to associate Windows Contacts with it's defaults but that didn't work.

If I use, File/export/mesages in OE does that leave my emails in OE and just copy them or does it "cut" them out of OE5 so that they will no longer be there? I want the files on both machines. The procedures I've seen refer to moving .dbx files from an XP system rather than an ME sys, is there a different procedure for ME? Can I move just the "sent items" instead of all of the OE5 folders?

Then the last step - copying the export from the hard drive to a removable medium fails. Eg I put the export into a folder on the desktop, but it won't copy to a USB flash stick: it gets started and then hangs - suddenly saying it will take 20+ hours to complete. There is no conceivable space issue. How can I do this last step, which is the key step? Have MS put in a spoiler?

So I go file - export - messages, select a format, select an EMPTY folder on my 1TB external drive, then try to export. I either get an error message telling me that some files may be corrupt, or that the destination folder may be too small. Or if I select just a tiny folder to export, it says export successful, but it only exports ONE email - the top one in the list I think? I really dont think I have corrupted files here - any folder I select to export seems to have a problem... as my motherboard is flakey, and I want to do the backup ASAP before it 'flakes' again!

I like to use Outlook 2000 as my email program. I have the same problem if I use Windows Mail as my email program. I can use Outlook to send and receive email, but I cannot add any contacts to Windows Contacts. Also when creating a new email, if I click on the To… button to get to Windows Contacts, I get the error message “The messaging interface has returned an unknown error. If this problem persists, restart Outlook.”, which of course does not help.
I am not sure, but I think I created the problem by importing Outlooks 2000 contacts from my old PC in an improper format into Outlook 2000 on my new Vista PC (which is where the problem is).

View 8 Replies View RelatedI have a simple text file with a certain word in it. I try to find this text file, but vista won't find it. Windows 2000, linked by network, finds it within a second.
I have tried all available options.
"include non-indexed"
"always search file names and contents"
"find partial matches"
"include subfolders"
etc
etc
It just doesn't work. Why is there not a simple search function that actually works like in windows2000? I am using Vista Ultimate 64 bit. But not having a working search function doesn't look that "ultimate" to me.
When I initially downloaded itunes, my cd drive disappeared. I found a link to a fix online, and it did fix it. Well I have installed an update to itunes, and now it shows it is there, but it will not import or rip cds. I have windows vista 32 bit.

Doing this creates an msg file for each email. Now, like I've done many times in the past, I would like to import them into the emailprogram of a new laptop. So I dragged the msg files into Vista Windows Mail and instead of importing the messages it creates a brand new email with these msg files as attachments! The only reason I save email in this manner is because Microsoft really dropped the ball when it came to transferring email from one PC to another. I forget which it was but either Outlook or Outlook Express was so bad it was a disaster. This method always worked so this is what I've decided to do. Now it looks like Microsoft's found a way to f*** this up too.

View 4 Replies View RelatedRunning Outlook 2003 on Vista Business. Have copied outlook express folder from old PC to C: on Vista. Import says "Cannot open mail folder". I imported into Windows Mail so it isn't a security problem, as the folder and all subfolders/files are owned by the user who has full control of the folder and files. What can the problem be? Is it because there is no email acount set up as yet?
