My computer will shutdown improperly during the night. I thought it was the automatic updates, but I checked the update center and it says nothing has been done. Sometimes, when it is sleeping and I try to start it back up, it will also shutdown for no apparent reason.

I really hope this issue can be easily resolved. I built my rig about three months ago and for the last month the system has been restarting randomly. It will restart at idle, if I'm in a word doc, or on the web. It will seem to freeze for two seconds, then go black and restart.I have disabled the automatic restart to hopefully see a bsod error code, but even with the automatic restart disabled the system does not display a bsod error and still restarts.The minidump folder is empty and the event viewer simply states that an unexpected shut down occurred.My graphic card's avg. temp is 50c and the cpu 46c. I've ran SiSoftware Sandra stability test close to 48 hours with no errors or restarts, then the next day at idle...restart Bios and drivers are current...I am stumped!

View 9 Replies View Relatedi'm experimenting an issue since i bought ir i can't put to sleep my commputer! could you believe it? but not ever, sometimes sleeps well, but others when i select sleep, the computers go to sleep but in a second start again, also i don't know if here is something like hibernate, like XP, if it's the option i don't find it yet. my power options sayd that the power botton is the one that active the hibernation, but when i press the power botton, the laptop go to sleep and sometimes wake up again. View 5 Replies View RelatedI used to have Vista Home Basic on my computer. I have a Logitech mouse that came with software, and it displayed a Logitech Mouse and Keyboard icon in the system tray. You could adjust mouse settings, and it told you when your wireless mouse's batteries were dying. So I got a new hard drive and a version of Vista Home Premium. Installed Vista and all of my programs, including the Logitech software. Now when I login I get the message that Windows wants to run setpointupdate.exe and I have to click Allow or Cancel. I never got this message with Vista Home Basic.
I've already Googled setpointupdate.exe and read many posts (including one on this site) saying that you have to go into your Logitech settings and disable automatic updates (tried that, didn't work), or that you had to uninstall your Logitech software all-together. But I want the software - I never change my mouse settings, but I like that the system tray icon warns me when the batteries are dying. Yes, I could uninstall the software and figure out on my own that the batteries are dying (by my mouse stopping working), but why should I have to uninstall this Logitech software? Isn't there a way to tell Windows that setpointupdate.exe is ok to run and that I don't have to click Allow EVERY time I login?
Both sleep and hibernation worked perfectly according to the power options settings at their preset times before installing updates KB953155 and KB954154. Now, the power options do not work anymore, only the manual command works. I uninstalled those updates and also tried to make a restore from a restore point I made just before installing the updates. Windows makes an automatic restore point, also. I tried this one too, but nothing solves the problem. It is a desktop pc, and I use those functions all along the day when unexpectedly going out and coming in. I don’t know what else to do.

Yesterday after downloading some automatic updates (and i don't think this was the cause for what i specify next...) the system started working very slow, with sudden freezes, slow reaction to clicks on icons, starting programs etc. Another annoying issue that the system started booting very slow: after the green marker which shows after booting, there's a very long stop before i get the log on window. What's really strange is that i don't see the harddrive working in this time...it seems like freeze, like the one happens when the windows is up and running.
My system is intel quad q6600 cpu, 4gb 800 mhz memory,gigabye dq6 680i motherboard,and new hitachi sata2 hardrives. Does it sounds more like hardware problem? (till yesterday all was good!)or more like windows problem? (i have a backup of the system from 2 months ago,right after i installed the system, but no more backups and restore points....)
I have some Vista Business users running with Limited accounts so that they can't install programs with the admin password. MS Automatic Update service seems to be running as Administrator so those patches get applied seemlessly and without my user having to call me to apply them. But I would truely love the ability to allow for Firefox and Adobe Reader to update themselves as well? Is this possible? I just can't keep up with all those updates on those two program for everyone here at work. Hey, I wonder if Google Updater can update these apps seemlessly: Ummm... I guess this runs as a System Account. I'll give this a shot and see. Otherwise any other suggestions are welcome. Overall though, I'd like to see how to define a specific program (well understanding the security ramifications) to install it as admin automatically.

View 4 Replies View RelatedDesktop PC will be one year next month. I did not renew the Microsoft Office after trial period that came as a package w/ no future intention of acquiring it. I'm using the free Open Office program - word processing mostly at this time. Is there anything in the list below that is of importance? I only have a basic PC with DVD player for movies, etc. No scanner, printer or fax. Not even external hard drive or usb flash drive. Otherwise, I understand that I can just choose to hide the updates, so it will not keep reminding me. Also, I choose to keep my OS w/ Srvce pk 1 and MS IE version 7 for as long as I'll be able to. I had too many probs with Srvce pk 2 and MS IE version 8. Your opinion, if any, is welcome.......
View 9 Replies View RelatedFirst off, let me just say I'm pretty much a total dunce when it comes to computers. So, anyway I just got a new hard drive because my old one died and it seems I already have problems. I had similar problems with the old one (kept restarting itself) until eventually it got to the point I couldn't start or even repair/reinstall Windows because there were no drivers. However this time I don't get the BSOD when it happens, at least visibly (in the error report it tells me the Problem Event Name is BlueScreen).
This is the second or third time (one of the times could have been because of a power outage) it's happened since I got my new hard drive on the 16th. The screen turns black for a few seconds and then it restarts. With my last hard drive it would give the BSOD after the black screen, but not with this one. I just don't know what to do, I thought my problem was with my hard drive the last time which is why I bought a new one and it seems to have helped, but now I'm thinking there might have been problems elsewhere too........
Im a little lost on where i go next with this issue. I got a computer about 1.5 years ago now with Vista Premium on it. Everything was great up until a few months ago. My computer started restarting randomly. I thought it might be a virus so i did the normal scaning and found nothing, just to be safe i reformatted it with a clean windows install. But its still happening. I didnt change any hardware, its in a properly ventilated area, and nothing in perticular seems to trigger it. Sometimes it can go 2 days without restarting once, some times it can do it twice in half an hour. I dont get a blue screen and i havnt been able to find anything in the event logs.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a multi boot system with XP, Vista, 7 (RC1) and Ubuntu. If I select "restart" in order to reboot, it just waits until I do a hard reset. If I select shutdown, then it does so. Neither XP or 7 has this problem. Any fix for this?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI am working on my mothers computer. She has a dell inspiron 1525 running windows vista basic.
She is having a huge problem. Whenever she starts her computer, it starts up normally, and goes all the way to the log in screen. You can log in and everything seems fine. It takes about 30 seconds from the time that it shows the accounts to choose from until it automatically restarts. I let the battery completely drain and am recharging it. It is still auto restarting. Her AV was up to date and no problems there.
I'm having a problem with Vista 64, I've verified the date and time in the bios (new motherboard) what happens is the date and time change to Dec 2016 after the PC restarts and the desktop is ready for action. I've scanned for viruses and malware and none were found, this is a new install from scratch.
Also I have a "Interactive Services Detection" error that forced me to disable the service, does anybody know how to fix it instead of disabling the service? I could just do another re-install but I'd like to avoid that right now.
i use vista ultimate. I checked for new updates then installed them. My machine keeps shutting down and restarting. I see on the screen "configuring updates, do not power off, 3 of 3 updates 99% completed". this keep going on and on. I power off after 24 hours then thy to restore my machine using the installation dvd, but my machine does not seem to boot from the dvd. It says reboot and select the boot device or instert the dvd and hit a key... things like this. Anytime i hit the key nothing happens. I dont wana loose my files.

View 7 Replies View RelatedOne of my Intel Core 2 Quad processor cores has a temperature consistently lower than the other 3 cores, WHY? I have a question. I need to know the reason why one of my cores (Core 2) is running about 3-4 degrees below the temperatures of the other 3 cores on my Intel Core 2 Quad processor. Restarting and rebooting seems not to help, it is always the same core with the lower temperature. Is there something wrong with that particular core or something overly defective with the processor itself??? It rarely ever fluctuates and stays at 33 degrees Celsius. The other core temperatures are around 36-37 degrees at rest/idle and do frequently go up when an action is performed on the computer.
Please let me know what is going on with this consistent core 2 temperature and please provide me with a reason why this is happening. Is it something that is beginning to go with this processor? Is there anything that can be done about it to get all four (4) core temperatures in balance.

View 5 Replies View Relatedi recently bought a new computer, its running Vista (64 bit) Home Premium, and when i first got it i attempted to do an "Easy Transfer" from my old laptop to this new desktop (the laptop was running Vista Home Premium ((32 bit i believe)), not sure if this may have anything to do with the problem)... but anyway, after the Easy Transfer was done, after shutting off my pc and restarting it, upon the windows startup screen the message "incorrect password" pops up first thing before i even try to type in any password o.O ... my pc is secured with a password and if i click ok and then type in the password it works fine, but at start up now every single time the first thing i see is "incorrect password" regardless of the fact that i havnt tried typing in the password yet, and like i said, if i just click ok and type in the password it works fine, so this problem hasnt really been bothering me that much, but i do find it quite odd and was wondering if anyone knew what this could be caused from (its the least of my problems with Vista 64 bit so far btw -_-) .... but yea, ive never seen a vista system show the "incorrect password" message before you even attempt to type the password in at startup haha...

View 4 Replies View Relatedi saw a video of someone i subscribed to on Internet, and he posted a video about a 'god mode' folder, and it was real, except he forgot to put '32 bit only'.., so what it was was you had to made a new empty folder on your desktop, and rename it something like 'godmode.{j74h37858g83e453e4g74c}' but right after i did, the folder disappeared, and windows explorer kept restarting about every 5-10 seconds, and i was just lucky i had another user on this computer which does still work. but i really need that first account back (it was the administrator account). so yeah, any thoughts on this would be helpful. *also, i forgot to note that safe mode doesn't work either; the screen just keeps flashing black every 5-10 seconds, which is obviously still the windows explorer.
