Easy Transfer After Shutting Off Pc And Restarting

Jun 24, 2009

i recently bought a new computer, its running Vista (64 bit) Home Premium, and when i first got it i attempted to do an "Easy Transfer" from my old laptop to this new desktop (the laptop was running Vista Home Premium ((32 bit i believe)), not sure if this may have anything to do with the problem)... but anyway, after the Easy Transfer was done, after shutting off my pc and restarting it, upon the windows startup screen the message "incorrect password" pops up first thing before i even try to type in any password o.O ... my pc is secured with a password and if i click ok and then type in the password it works fine, but at start up now every single time the first thing i see is "incorrect password" regardless of the fact that i havnt tried typing in the password yet, and like i said, if i just click ok and type in the password it works fine, so this problem hasnt really been bothering me that much, but i do find it quite odd and was wondering if anyone knew what this could be caused from (its the least of my problems with Vista 64 bit so far btw -_-) .... but yea, ive never seen a vista system show the "incorrect password" message before you even attempt to type the password in at startup haha...

Windows Easy Transfer - Program Crashes During Transfer

Jun 15, 2008

I am attempting to transfer files & settings using the Belkin Easy Transfer cable from an XP computer to a Vista computer. All starts well by showing that the two computers are connected. But after finding the files and settings and providing the amount of data to be transferred, it starts gathering information but then shows a flashing disconnection icon in the upper right of both computers' transfer windows and freezes. This happens at a different place each time, but early in the procedure (after about 10 minutes). Would anyone have any advice? I have done everything by the book, as far as I'm aware.

Windows Just Keeps Shutting Down And Restarting But Doesn

Nov 4, 2009

I let my mom use my laptop while I was sleeping, absolutely NO problems with it it's an HP with vista and when I got it from her and turned it on the speaker volume had an x over it and when I put the mouse over it it says No Audio Device found or somethin and alsooo wifi isn't working i switch the button to on yet it shows no sign of any wifi being on, and then the worst of all it keeps jus shutting itself down after being on for 3 minutes or so and then restarts by itself then when I log in again it jus does it all over again. If I boot it in safe mode it has the speaker pornlems and no Internet wifi signs but it doesn't shut off by itself.

Not An Easy Transfer

Jan 5, 2009

the instructions for both the cable and Windows Easy Transfer program are practically non-existant. The directions for the cable said to install the software onto the XP machine (easy enough), and then connect the two computers with the cable, again, very simple. Then I was to follow the on screen instructions.

Instructions were as follows: "Windows automatically detects the connection". That's it, no buttons to click, nothing to type in, no load screen, no scan, nothing. So I waited... and waited... and waited. Nothing happened. So I unhooked the cable, disconnected both computers from the internet, disabled any and all firewalls, spyware software, antivirus software, anything that could possibly interfere with the connection. And I tried again... and again... and again. Not Happy, not simple, not easy! Am I doing something wrong? Did I miss a step? Or is Vista really the problem everyone has been proclaiming it?

Windows Easy Transfer

I'm running Vista Home Premium on a 2 month old HP. There are 3 harddrives --- the original one from HP, the old one from my old computer(both internal), and a drive that is external, connected via USB, thatI use to hold my backup disk image files. For a few weeks, no problem. Lately, every time I double click on theexternal drive in Windows Explorer, Windows Easy Transfer startsrunning. If I right-click instead and then click on "Open", there'sno problem (Easy Transfer does not open). Any ideas on how to stop this unwanted loading of Easy Transfer?

Windows Easy Transfer And Outlook

Mar 30, 2008

I bought a new Vista laptop about 3 months ago and have only got around to transferring stuff from my old XP pc just now. I decided to use Windows Easy Transfer and for the most part it was easy except for Outlook. It seems to have replaced my existing Outlook 2003 OST files with those from my old pc (also Outlook 2003) - does this mean that I have lost the last 3 months of emails or is the file I am missing been transferred somewhere that I can't see anymore. When I try to access local settings the UAC tells me that I don't have permission?

Win7 To Windows Easy Transfer

Jun 13, 2009

I have gone back to Vista after using Win 7. I used Windows Easy Transfer (WET)and loaded up an external drive. I found that Vista SP2 seems to have a slightly different WET gui and have not been able to xfer any data at all. I can get to the point of selecting path and password but then cannot get a path that the Vista version of WET will recongnize even though it shows up and can be selected the WET that is on the external drive. Went back to Vista to get ready for the release of the retail version of 7 and did not want to mess with the RC and eventual clean install next year.

When I used the Easy Transfer prg and the Companion, everything worked EXCEPT that her profile from the XP machine was created on the Vista one. By that I mean the Admin Profile on the XP was Nancy. The Admin on the Vista one was also named Nancy. Yet when the Easy Transfer happened, it created a second Nancy profile. One that had what I wanted to be in th enew one's Admin profile.

Windows Easy Transfer Hangs

Apr 9, 2008

I am trying to use Windows Easy Transfer to transfer documents and settings from a Window XP machine to a new Vista Professional machine. I am trying to do this over our network (SBS2003 if that's relevant). Windows Easy Transfer seems to be working fine to a point, but then it gets stuck on a particular file (on the XP machine) and doesn't continue. A flashing icon appears near the top right, but there are no options to skip a file or anything like that. I have tried deleting what I believed was the offending file, only to have WET stop on a different file. If there was a way to skip a problem file, that would be great, but the only time I see a prompt suggesting that I can do that is after I have already cancelled the transfer (on the XP machine).

Easy Transfer Autoloads On XP Machine

May 9, 2008

I asked the following question in the XP help and support NG, but they told me to come here instead. I transferred what files I needed from my older XP PC to a new Vista machine. Now whenever I boot up my XP PC, the XP PC opens up a folder onto the desktop called "Microsoft" which has another folder in it called "MigWiz". I can click it closed, but it is a pain to have to do every time I turn that computer on. I tried to locate the program name running msconfig.exe, but could not findit in particular. I also went to "Add/Remove Programs...", found the program, but said that certain other programs I have would/could possibly not run right if I removed the Easy Transfer application...one of which is UPnP. Is there another way to remove the Easy transfer program? Perhaps reverting to an earlier system restore point?

How can I import these files into Windows Mail/Contacts on my new laptop (Windows Vista/MS Office 2007 H&S). I tried Windows Easy Transfer, but it didn't work.
2. How can I import Mozilla Thunderbird files (e-mail, contacts) from the old laptop into Windows Mail/Contacts on the new one? The wizzard does not give the opportunity to select Thunderbird files.

Easy File Transfer And Windows 7 Upgrade

Jun 28, 2009

If I decide to upgrade to Win 7 and do a clean install, could I use Easy File Transfer to retain my Outlook, Web Settings and Files? I have two internal hard drives, not raid, and an external eSATA drive. All 3 are the same size, 500GB. So I think I have the resources, I just don't want to lose data, favorites, contacts, files or emails. Having never used Easy File Transfer, how should I proceed? Store my easy transfere to my second HD "D", format C, install Win 7? I guess I need to buy a version of Win 7 that will read my Vista Easy File backup...duh... Is Win 7 Pro able to read Vista Easy File Transfers? I have two accounts on this computer, mine and my wife's, so there another issue too.

Windows Easy Transfer :: Outlook Express To Windows Mail

Jun 13, 2008

I've just upgraded to a new pc with vista and windows mail from Xp & outlook express (with virgin). To save my files and emails etc I used windows easy transfer software and copied the files to an external hard drive and then loaded it to the new PC. I initially had problems as my modem didn't install but virgin sent me a wireless connector and all seemed OK. However, when I click on send/receive mail I get an error message 'some errors occured while processing the requsted tasks - please see details below.' But there are no details! I have 3 email addresses.

If I click on the little arrow next to send/rec and then click on each email separately there is no problem. Equally, if I click on 'receive all' there is no problem. When I click on send/rec the first time I open windows mail there is no problem, but thereafter always the error message. I've had Virgin remotely controlling the pc for 90 minutes and they can't suss it!

Also, bizarrely at the top of the page it says inbox - outlook express provided by virgin net even though I appear to be running windows mail (it certainly isn't the usual outlook I have on my old pc). Did I inadvertently load outlook as well as my emails on top of windows mail and they've kind of merged?

Computer Keeps Restarting

Sep 24, 2009

First off, let me just say I'm pretty much a total dunce when it comes to computers. So, anyway I just got a new hard drive because my old one died and it seems I already have problems. I had similar problems with the old one (kept restarting itself) until eventually it got to the point I couldn't start or even repair/reinstall Windows because there were no drivers. However this time I don't get the BSOD when it happens, at least visibly (in the error report it tells me the Problem Event Name is BlueScreen).

This is the second or third time (one of the times could have been because of a power outage) it's happened since I got my new hard drive on the 16th. The screen turns black for a few seconds and then it restarts. With my last hard drive it would give the BSOD after the black screen, but not with this one. I just don't know what to do, I thought my problem was with my hard drive the last time which is why I bought a new one and it seems to have helped, but now I'm thinking there might have been problems elsewhere too........

Computer Restarting

Jun 11, 2008

Im a little lost on where i go next with this issue. I got a computer about 1.5 years ago now with Vista Premium on it. Everything was great up until a few months ago. My computer started restarting randomly. I thought it might be a virus so i did the normal scaning and found nothing, just to be safe i reformatted it with a clean windows install. But its still happening. I didnt change any hardware, its in a properly ventilated area, and nothing in perticular seems to trigger it. Sometimes it can go 2 days without restarting once, some times it can do it twice in half an hour. I dont get a blue screen and i havnt been able to find anything in the event logs.

So it shuts down, restarts, and when it gets back on my User Account Control is turned off. So I turn User Account Control back on and it's fine until the next morning. Sometimes, but not often it will do this after my computer has been Hibernating for a while.
