I used DreamScene Preview without any problems. I stopped using it for awhile and recently attempted to run it, only to find out that M$ crippled their final release. Preview worked great for me - I'd like to roll Dreamscene back to the functional version that I can use. I have the original .cab file for DreamScene Preview, and am capable of uninstalling the full version without any problems - is there any way to install the older version manually?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI've recently got this problem where my taskbar will no longer stay hidden. Once I boot up it will auto-hide for a short time then it just stops working as if my mouse is always hoovering over the taskbar. I can then disable and then re-enable the feature and it will then hide until I put my mouse over it and then it will no longer hide. The only new thing that was done before this happened was installing Vipre Antivirus software. I've tried disabling that to see if that was the problem but it still remains. Does nayone have any ideas what would cause this and more importantly how to fix it?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI bought this computer last Dec, 2008 with Vista Home Premium installed. It's had a full time DSL connection the entire time. It automatically receives the Windows Updates when the are available. In fact, it received a bunch of updates last night (6/11/08).I just checked "Welcome Center" again and it does not show SP1. I thought SP1 was supposed to be installed through these auto updates over the last month or so. Am I wrong? I'm sorry to say that Vista has been disapointing and very flakey. I was hoping that the SP would correct some of the bizarre behavior. Should I wait for the Sp1 auto update? Should I download it from MS? Should I skip SP1?

How auto back up my documents, pictures & music to the external hard drive. On my old laptop (running XP), I used to have a "briefcase" in my external hard drive. Every time that was connected, it would automatically add any new files in the briefcase (in this case, music). I am constantly downloading new music & etc. so it's a tedious task to manually back up these files.

compatibility update, the second a windows defender patch and the third (enabled in error) was a "windows live essentials" update which I cancelled half way through (by hitting Cancel and then Yes etc).
The updater reported two updated done one cancelled and requested a reboot.
After re-boot all I get after the initial Microsoft "bar graph" loading icon is a blue screen and "STOP: c0000139 (Entry Point Not Found) The procedure entry point ntoskrnl.Ex1AcquireFastMutex could not be located in the dynamic link library HAL.dll."
I've tried using repair windows using F8 and from a Vista Ultimate DVD (which reports no errors) and using system restore to a previous point which reports success but on re-boot the laptop still blue screens with the same report.
Installed Vista 64 Home Premium SP1 OEM on Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD5, and the computer immediately began to download and install 40 updates via "auto update". These updates did not affect the operability of Vista, HOWEVER the 2nd group of "updates" (there were like 4-5) completely disabled my onboard NIC drivers and I could no longer connect to the internet. There were no updated NIC drivers on the Gigabyte website for the motherboard. I used "System Restore" but the system would not allow the NIC drivers to be reinstalled.
This is TOTALLY unacceptable when you are obligated to download "Auto-Updates" and then they require a complete reinstall of the OS to repair the damage caused by the "Update". I was forced to completely reinstall Vista 64 SP1. I allowed the first 40 updates to install, then I disabled "auto updates". Anyone else have this problem? Unfortunately, I was unable to determine exactly which module created the problem - but I tried "uninstalling" the top five "updates" on the "installed updates" list but could not get the system to allow the NIC drivers to initialize/install.
all of a sudden my windows firewall has gone off and I cannot put it back on manually or auto. I have scanned my system with 3 virus programs and spyware programs and all is clear. I do not have any Norton software on my pc but the only thing I have done recently is put a new netgear wireless router on my system. running vista home premium all up to date

So, I see that part (if not all) of the problem is bad drivers. Why is this so and how can I fix it? I have a Gateway M-Series laptop (about 10 months old).
It hasn't automatically updated its JVS signatures since I installed the new service pack on May 27. I can still manually update, but miss the convenience of auto. I checked my Windows Firewall settings and created an exception for Avast. I have performed a repair installation of Avast and have even renewed my license key early. Is there some kind of incompatibility between Vista SP2 and Avast that I don't know about?

Also, if I have Vista SP1 as my install disk, and have SP2 saved to a disk can I just go ahead and put SP2 on right away or do you have to get all the little in between updates that came out before SP2?
following on from the bug i had Ive scanned the drive with the maxtor/seagate tools and no problems. It seems to be something to do with the harddrive as if is start a checkdisk it almost instantly causes problems, you can move the mouse but nothign responds. If you try and go into ctrl-alt-delete you get a message saying a 'logon process has failed to create the security options dialog'.

So if my computer crasher I won't be able to put in my Vista DVD and boot up to fix it. Anyone knows anything about this? I'm running Windows Vista Home Basic, and randomly my internet browsers just totally stop trying to connect and just spit out error messages, but everything else still works (usually). A lot of people have said "oh I disabled/uninstalled ZoneAlarm or Bitdefender or so and so a program and it worked" but I don't run those. Never have had ZA or anything on my computer. The only program I have in common with the most common ones is Spybot S&D, and I disabled that on startup and sure enough, didn't work. I do not have any Vista service packs, I don't think. Nothing explicitly called that anyway. I have a bunch of updates that I installed when I got the computer, so I can't uninstall SP1 to fix it since I don't think I even have it.
I have uninstalled all the AOL apps from my Vista PC but the Uninstaller remains. The system bar also contains an AOL connection icon. How do I remove the unistaller and the icon?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI just uninstalled some unwanted software using the Revo Uninstaller (Rhapsody which came with an mp3 player I just got and decided I didn't need this software). Revo was recommended to me by some members here, so I have a few questions. The first screen that come up has a list of "modes" (Built in, Safe, Moderate and Advanced). As you probably know, the "Moderate" mode is ticked by default, so that's what I used. In the process some files came up to be deleted (which I assume were temp files associated with Rhapsody), so I ticked them all and deleted them. Then a registry entry came HKEY something, don't remember what, and then a file attached to it. I didn't know whether to select both HKEY and the file, so I left that alone. When such an option appears, do you just highlight the file or everything,including HKEY, I'm not sure if it was Local Machine, Users or whatever (should have made a screen shot). At any rate everything seems to be running OK. Is Revo smart enough to only delete unneeded files and what mode is recommended?

View 4 Replies View RelatedWhen I run the back up it always ends up with an error code[0x80070002] "system cannot find the file specified." I have tried to re boot and hold F8 and repair your computer but it seems that nothing happens. I have tried this 4 or 5 times and nothing. I put the reinstallation disc in but I dont know if I can repair the problem without doing a fresh install and losing all my files. I checked and I see a lot of people with the same type of problem with backups. Could this be solved or do I have to reinstall or should I get third party backup. I downloaded these yesterday and I have had problems with my wired modem and Netgear router today. I keep losing the internet connection. I've spoken to my ISP and Netgear. Netgear says that the modem keeps dropping the connection but my ISP says there are no problems at their end. It just seems odd that everything was working fine before I allowed these updates.
I can get the good old Windows Update interface back, somehow the interface as changed for something that is less usefull and easy to find what update I need to do or not.

MS Automatic Update service seems to be running as Administrator so those patches get applied seemlessly and without my user having to call me to apply them. But I would truely love the ability to allow for Firefox and Adobe Reader to update themselves as well? Is this possible? I just can't keep up with all those updates on those two program for everyone here at work. Hey, I wonder if Google Updater can update these apps seemlessly: Ummm... today, my supplier tested the motherboard in front of my eyes, and it worked fine THERE.
they said maybe it is your graphics card's driver (HD 4870) that makes this problem. so i came home, uninstalled the VGA driver and ATI HD Audio driver and STILL NO SOUND my speakers are fine (i tested them with another pc and with my mp3 player) and i installed the latest drivers for everything.
i also e-mailed Realtek technical support last week, and they didnt answer!
i asked in 3 or 4 other forums (tomshardware, anandtech, guru3d....) no one could help me
if u need to know anything, please let me know and here are some pictures, maybe they can help u to figure out what is wrong with my pc
