So far, auto update has not downloaded SP1. Should I download manually or wait for the auto?

I have two computers running Vista Business. I have them both set up to tell me about updates but not to automatically install them. So, why is one computer telling me that Service Pack 1 is available but the other is not?
In fact, on the one that not telling me SP1 is available, I told it to check for updates and it still did not tell me about SP1 (it said that everything is all up to date). Is there some legitimate reason for this or is this just normal operating procedure? And, BTW, I'm very hesitant to install SP1 of either computer.

I bought this computer last Dec, 2008 with Vista Home Premium installed. It's had a full time DSL connection the entire time. It automatically receives the Windows Updates when the are available. In fact, it received a bunch of updates last night (6/11/08).I just checked "Welcome Center" again and it does not show SP1. I thought SP1 was supposed to be installed through these auto updates over the last month or so. Am I wrong? I'm sorry to say that Vista has been disapointing and very flakey. I was hoping that the SP would correct some of the bizarre behavior. Should I wait for the Sp1 auto update? Should I download it from MS? Should I skip SP1?

When installing service pack 2, I get to the "Please read the license terms". The "Next" key at the bottom is not available for selecting ... it is grayed out. All I can do from this point is select cancel. I downloaded Windows6.0-KB948465-X64.exe. I have a 64-bit computer and am running Windows Vista Home Premium Version 6.0 (Build 6001: Service Park 1)

I was wondering if I had the correct Service Packs. Under Windows Updates I can see them all going back to when I bought it. It shows 1 service pack update, KB948465 on 9/19/09. It does not show a 2nd. Under Windows Edition in my System (Control Panel) it shows Windows Home Premium and Service Pack 2.

I let Vista do two updates on my Tosh A300-1BZ Laptop - I think 1 was an IE8
compatibility update, the second a windows defender patch and the third (enabled in error) was a "windows live essentials" update which I cancelled half way through (by hitting Cancel and then Yes etc).
The updater reported two updated done one cancelled and requested a reboot.
After re-boot all I get after the initial Microsoft "bar graph" loading icon is a blue screen and "STOP: c0000139 (Entry Point Not Found) The procedure entry point ntoskrnl.Ex1AcquireFastMutex could not be located in the dynamic link library HAL.dll."
I've tried using repair windows using F8 and from a Vista Ultimate DVD (which reports no errors) and using system restore to a previous point which reports success but on re-boot the laptop still blue screens with the same report.

Installed Vista 64 Home Premium SP1 OEM on Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD5, and the computer immediately began to download and install 40 updates via "auto update". These updates did not affect the operability of Vista, HOWEVER the 2nd group of "updates" (there were like 4-5) completely disabled my onboard NIC drivers and I could no longer connect to the internet. There were no updated NIC drivers on the Gigabyte website for the motherboard. I used "System Restore" but the system would not allow the NIC drivers to be reinstalled.
This is TOTALLY unacceptable when you are obligated to download "Auto-Updates" and then they require a complete reinstall of the OS to repair the damage caused by the "Update". I was forced to completely reinstall Vista 64 SP1. I allowed the first 40 updates to install, then I disabled "auto updates". Anyone else have this problem? Unfortunately, I was unable to determine exactly which module created the problem - but I tried "uninstalling" the top five "updates" on the "installed updates" list but could not get the system to allow the NIC drivers to initialize/install.

I had a working VPN connection with Windows Vista, my computer encountered an error and the resolution was to upgrade to Service Pack 1. I did and now my VPN connection does not work. I can bring a laptop home from work (Windows XP) and it will connect. Anyone have any ideas? I have gone into the properties to make sure the settings did not get changed.

I have recently installed SP1 to my Vista X64 machine (dual core 6700 o/c to 3ghz, 8 gb ram, raptor 10K 74gb system harddrive, raptor 10K 150gb large file and partitioned PS scratch disk, 340 gb 'everthing else' harddrive, nvidia 8800 640mb gts videocard, wacom A3 wide table) and I have noticed really strange behaviour in PS CS3. It generally feels slower and when I work on larger files (183x120cm @300dpi) it's much slower than pre-sp1 on the same file size.
The odd thing I have noticed is that it crashes (fades to white - not responding ) when I use the transform scale tool and when I add a Layer blending effect ( drop shadow / gradient etc ) it never did this before as it used to render it instantly.....now it takes a least 30 sec to 1 min to create and/or recover from the 'not responding' white out screen. Has anyone else found this with PS CS3 and Vista SP1? - It's very annoying especially as I had the system perfect before the SP1 upgrade. How can I fix this?

I have a Genuine version of Windows Vista on my system. Four times now I have tried to install SP3 with failure each time. It will go through the complete installation process with the 3 stages upon restart and shows success on all three of those stages but comes back saying that the upgrade did not take and my system is reverting and changes that were made during the install. My system ill run normal afterwards.

After being prompted that new Windows updates are available, I have attempted twice to install Service Pack 2 but get the error message" Service Pack did not install. Reverting changes. Do not turn off your computer." I already have SP1 installed on my HP Pavillion 32 bit OS with Windows Vista Home Premium. Please advise if this is a known problem and a possible fix.

The problem I ran into was that after installing Service Pack 2, some kind of error or glitch started occurring. What happens is that I restarted the computer after the install, and when Vista boots to the desktop, only about 5 icons in the tray would show when usually there are 10-12 that display. So I then tried opening Internet Explorer and you see the hourglass symbol show next to the cursor showing that it is working, but then it disappears and nothing displays. No window shows for IE. I tried launching other programs and the same problem occurs. No windows would display, but in the Task Manager, I see the processes running.
So I figure the issue is related to Service Pack upgrade, so I restored to the point before the Service Pack 2 upgrade. Everything worked fine. So I tested the computer after a restart again and again the non-window launching error occurs.
I stumbled acorss some proccessing issues with CA Security software that would hog some memory, but I am unsure that it is the reason for this error. Could it be that the Service Pack may have installed improperly, thus, creating some kind of window error? Or do you think it could be related to some preinstalled program having incompatibility with the Service Pack?
I have contacted Microsoft support and they suggested resetting IE, but I don't think that is the solution. I haven't tried it yet. I sent them a HiJackThis log and they reported no problems with it. No viruses or issues to report from a Malwarebytes scan either.

Has anyone installed SP1 for Vista on a PC with MacAfee security suite? I turned off all of my non-microsoft services and attempted a 3rd install and it still did not install. Microsoft told me to completley un-install MacAfee and then try to intall SP1 again. My question is, if anyone has done this; will it work? I hate to waste another 3 hours doing an install and revert.

If I'm not having any problems with Vista do I need to install the new service pack? My computer came with it preinstalled and I have no CD or backup. I've tried several times to install it but keep getting error 8007371C. I went to the manufacture and they said I need to do what sounds to me like to a destructive recovery then install SP1. I see where a lot of people are having problems with the new service pack. I guess what I'm asking is will I be buying myself a headache if I install it?

Reason for wanting to install service pack 1 : The Problem: My windows Update tells me there are no more important updates only optional ones. I checked the optional updates and there is nothing in there that has to do with service pack 1. So i downloaded "Windows6.0-KB936330-X86-wave0.exe" that installs service pack 1 Execute it and it starts out all fine as if it was working. After a while this shows up. I've Checked with the microsoft site and tried closing programs, restarting then running it as soon vista starts, but nothing.

I've tried five times to install SP2, but still get the error message"Service Pack did not install.Reverting changes. Do not turn off your computer." I've tried to install SP 2 with the downloaded package in addition to Windows Update and also downloaded the cleanup tool. I've disabled my Norton antivirus program and still SP2 will not install. I already have SP1 installed on my HP Pavillion 32 bit OS with Windows Vista Home Premium. Do I really need to install SP2.

I had two failed SP1 installs; got to 100% then said "Service Pack did not install. reverting changes" - that was from Windows Update, second attempt was from a manual download of the all languages file (the failure message was slightly different - it was "Updates were not configured correctly. Reverting changes".) OK so far. Now update says I should have KB938371 (which MS say fixes SP1 install problems). I click ok and it reboots and hey presto - Vista suicide! PC won't boot. The problem was a missing winload.exe with error 0x00000f (IIRC). Luckily I have Linux installed (bless Linus Torvalds), so I download your iso, boot that and try the repair function. Doesn't work - says "Disk corrupt". Also no copy of Vista is found so can't go back to a restore point (probably because one of my Linux partitions is the active one which runs a boot manager). After a few attempts with this and that I try this, and it works. Open a dos command prompt and type copy x:windowssystem32Bootwinload.exe c:windowssystem32winload.exe Corrupt disk, eh? And now my vista works fine, although it still don't have KB938371 (haven't tried it again yet) and SP1 is not installed. What a mess. M$ one of the richest companies on the planet, should be ashamed of this.

the latest Vista updates were downloaded to my computer. I didn't restart my computer after the updates were downloaded. When I turned on my laptop this morning, the Startup Repair window comes up because windows failed to start. I've run the repair several times, and it's unable to repair. It lists the following
problem details:
Problem Event Name: StartupRepariV2
Problem Signature 01: AutoFailover
Problem Signature 02: 6.0.6000.163686.6.0.6001.1800
Problem Signature 03: 5
Problem Signature 04: 262148
Problem Signature 05: BadDriver
Problem Signature 06: BadDriver
Problem Signature 07: 0
Problem Signature 08: 3
Problem Signature 09: WrpRepair
Problem Signature 10: 10
OS Version: 6.0.6000.2.0.0.256.1
Local ID: 1033
So, I see that part (if not all) of the problem is bad drivers. Why is this so and how can I fix it? I have a Gateway M-Series laptop (about 10 months old).

I have come across two computers in my family that fail to update to Vista SP2 with totally different error codes, and leading to different discussions on the community forums. One is a desktop and the other is a new Dell laptop. The latter gets error code 80070490. Wow this Microsoft quality control reminds me of the constant bugs I had when I was using Windows 3.0 back in the early 1990s, or the first Windows 95 release. I hope it's better in Windows 7!

I am having certain problem upgrading my Vista. About two years ago I bought Windows Vista Ultimate x32 disc to upgrade my older laptop. However, back then... Well, Vista was far from perfect back then, no SP1... So I put it in a drawer. Now I bought a new HP laptop, boasting Vista Home Premium SP1. Thanks to Service Pack 1, Vista finally reached the level I can use it, so I thought of upgrading Vista to Ultimate. Unfortunately, the Setup would not allow me to upgrade, saying the version on the laptop is newer than the DVD installation (laptop has SP1, DVD not). Now, question, what should I do? Was buying Ultimate just a waste of money? How do I go about upgrading it now? I tried to see if I can uninstall Service Pack 1, however, the OS came with SP1 built-in, thus I cannot uninstall it.

Vista Service pack 2 won't install on hubbies laptop. (Vista Home Premium 32-bit) I have tried 3 times, rebooting after each attempt. An error pops up saying: "C:Windowssystem32sqmapi.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error. Try installing the program again using the original installation media or contact your system Administrator or Software Vendor for support." The error code is C0000020 and on the heading bar is says "SPCLITE.EXE - Bad Image. We have no idea what program or what .dll it is talking about. I am running Malwarebytes on his computer at the moment to see if anything comes up regarding that.
