I bought my son a new CPU, and it has windows vista on it. None of his games he installed worked. They freeze up, and the graphics doesn't seem all that good. Does anyone know what I need to do, to make it work. I hate to think I spend 1400.00, and he can't play any of his games. Its not the graphics card, I made sure the cpu has everything he needs on it and more.

I’ve been playing on my computer for a while and have noticed that whenever I play my games, my computer will freeze and hang up after about a couple minutes of playing into the game. The screen will freeze and whatever sound was playing will loop in the background. I cannot ctrl alt del out of the game and my computer requires a hard restart whenever this happens. I have been looking on some forums about this problem with games freezing and supposedly the fix was swapping the different RAM modules. I tried doing that but it still keeps freezing after playing for a bit. I then used Riva Tuner to turn up the fan on my graphics card to 100% but that did not help either. I have the latest drivers for Vista x64 too. I also tried playing the games in Windows XP (I am running both Vista and XP on my system) but the same thing happens. I then started to think if the 500W power supply was too low so we got a new 650W PSU, but haven’t put it in yet.

i know for a fact that it is not my internet is not the problem it is very good comcast high speed and i used the same modem on the laptop, where it worked smoothly plus it is not a memory problem. for not only does it have 4 GB of memory, it still lags even when i close all programs, including windows live and AVG in the bottom bar. i can really only assume it is a problem with vista. its sad though, i knew xp like the back of my hand but with vista im near clueless XD
Something has always puzzled me, then again everything does lol but you know when you click on start and there is a Games button that you can use to play and manage your games? well when I install my games only some appear in there and its rather handy to see the ratings and such, not that I really follow it, but that is another story.
Back to my question, why do only a few games appear there, if anyone does'nt know what I mean, its the the screen which has a trophy icon on it and then the ratings etc.........I just find that only a few games appear there, but not all that I have installed, is this just a quirk of Vista? or is there something I can do to make it show all of them? As I install alot of games, I would like them all to appear there, but am confused as to why not.

View 8 Replies View RelatedMy 3 year old was playing "Purble Place" and accidentally opened several windows and had quite a few things up on the screen. We don't have an internet connection yet, so there isn't a risk of viruses, etc. But, ever since this happened only "Ink Ball" will open. The other games appear to still be on the computer (icons, info regarding them, etc) but nothing will open to play. Any tips on how to play these pre-installed games again?

When I try to load full screen games my computer craps out and reboots. When Vista Ultimate x64 loads, it says my ATI graphics controller failed, but windows can not find a solution to this problem!
This has failed with CoD4 and the benchmark program that comes with the video card. I am running catalyst 8.8 because the others did not work for me either. When I install my drivers I uninstall ATI software through windows control panel, and reboot, then install new drivers and reboot again. Does anyone know what is causing this problem? I tried running CoD4 at different resolutions, 19xx x 16xx etc. I have a 24" monitor.
i have a computer that runs on both windows xp and windows vista home premium.i can select which one i want to use when it boots up. I installed some games on XP a while back but now i primarily use vista.Whenever i start a game on vista that was installed on xp, the game gets some sort of error.When i start the xp installed game on windows xp it works just fiine. I primarily use vista and i want to be able to play the games i installed on windows xp on vista.

Just ran Quake4 at full specs and had Nvidia performance control panel turn the fan to 90%... but would like to monitor the temps and frame rates on this and other games. 9800GT 1GB. As ive read on other topics, I think its a driver issue, but I just dont know what to do. I will try another fresh vista install tomorrow and get the vista updates quickly to see whether that helps the situation. I have ensured it isnt overheating like it did initially when I bought the system, and it is now a safe and low temperature in a running state. Ive re-installed, windows, and it froze after I installed the chipset driver. I contiuned, and found a sound driver wasnt digitally signed. However it still crashes. I have got the latest drivers for it. For it to crash, all i did was open recycle bin, from idle state.
I shouldn't be surprised but here goes....I checked today for SP1 on windows update.. According to my computer no updates available however updates were last installed on 03/13/08 and yet when you look at installed updates it shows a windows defender update installed today. I have been reading several posts on this problem and have noticed that Carey Frisch posted a link to troubleshoot and now here is a problem and that is none of these apply to me... Once again Go figure!! Running Vista Business 32bit here in the good old USA and of course the English versionVista is and has always been updated right on schedule....
View 9 Replies View Relatedlet me start this nightmare story i had just done a fresh restalled and spent hours on getting everything installed on pc all was fine working perfectly untill that is i installed vista service pack 1 from windows updates the update process crashed halfway through so i had the only option to restart my pc then came the blue screen of death and it metioned if you have any new hardware installed make sure all drivers are installed etc etc of course i know it wasnt hardware it was because of me restating my pc half way threw the service pack 1 and the full files not been installed threw the update process crashed was the reason for the blue screen but the blue screen had notes advising me to clear shadow memory in the bois and any other memory so i stupidly assumed this was channel mapping and bank mapping and put them all to zero please see jpeg of what i changed i basically disabled everything that was enabled and put all the mapping channels and bank channels to zero and now when i switch on my laptop i get a blank screen with no post no ...........

I took the PC home and using my keyboard, mouse and monitor did some maintenance, upped the memory etc and took it back. It still froze at the logo. I replaced the keyboard and mouse and monitor one by one to no avail. Took everything home and it worked as a system, but at his house - still freezes. Is this an electrical problem - if so how could I find out? Their other computer works fine.

I had recently bought a new computer that had came with Windows Vista Home Premium installed on it. I have the computer for maybe about 1-3 weeks, it was doing just fine for what i was wanting it to do. But the past 2 days i would go turn on the computer enter my Password and it would just Hang/Freeze on the welcome screen. I have no problem at all booting up into SafeMode, and can usualy get into my account after having 30 or so attempts if lucky. Its just really frustrating and could some help if possible.

i have a Sony Vaoi VGN-NS11J im not sure if its a 32-bit or 62-bit. one day i was browseing facebook when my computer froze after leaving it for like 30 mins it was still frozen so i had to turn it off by the button and i know that is bad. when i tried to turn it on again it just gave me the options safe mode safe mode with networking and the other safe mode and start windows normally so i just started normally it gets past the vaoi screen and then on the microsoft windows screen it just keeps loading for like 10 minutes then it restarts then it gave me new options start windows normally or launch startup repair so i launch startup repair which takes like 40 minutes just to get to the actually repair place then it gives me no operating system to repair its just blank ive tried all the booting options start from last known good boot or something like that safe mode wont work and when i disable restart when startup fails i get the blue screen of death it gives me this message. A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer

That's the spec's of my computer, we have the same computer so it should be the same, but I don't know since her's keeps freezing :P So, when she boots up her PC, it works but when you try to do something it freezes.
It's really annoying and I have been trying to fix it for so darn long! (I know how to fix XP's and some Vista problems, but not this! ) So, how can I fix this, I know it's not a display driver or sound driver (uninstalled both, reinstalled).
I am getting tired of having to restart IE7. What is going on with this freezing problem. It started about three or four weeks ago, and hasn't stopped. Seems everytime I access the internet the system freezes up (at least two or three times, each time). I am now running it without any add-ons, and still have the same problem.

I have to reset the computer, and then it will go for another 30-40 minutes, when i get a blue screen, telling me something about hardware problems. then it restarts and works fine.

I believe I found the origin of the problem. And it seems to be related to Vista.
Go to > Settings > Control Panel > Power Options > check the "High
Performance" option and then click the blue line underneath that reads:
"Change Plan Settings" a new windows will appear, click the blue line
that reads: "Change Advanced Power Settings", the "Power Options
Advance Settings" appear and you should click the "+" mark on
"Hard Disk", then click on "Turn off hard disk after", and set to "Never".
My several HD are all SATA, and when Vista shuts them down automatically,
the SATA do not restart immediately, and this is seen as a temporary freeze.
Since I entered these new settings, it's been working fine for a few days now.
I've been having problems with my laptop for quite some time now. If I start it up normally, it always freezes after some time. It won't matter if I try to do something during that time or not. Also if I just open up a game straight up, it will work just fine, but when I exit it, I can't open anything new. It will just show that loading circle and nothing will happen. It works fine in safe mode. I have been searching everywhere for a fix, so now I'm trying my luck here. I'll try to give you some information here. I don't know what you will need though.

My (stock speed) Intel Q9550 @2.83Ghz is running at temps of 105 degrees Celcius or 221 degrees farenheight (for those not from my country) I dont think this is normal, am i right? I think this is the sole reason for my constant computer freezes? Im guessing Im right and I have to get a new CPU fan/heatsink and some top quality thermal paste.
