I've got a SAMSUNG notebook and my "Atheros AR5007EG Wireless Network Adapter" seems to be not working. I cannot see (let alone connect to) any wireless environment. I have to access the internet via ethernet cable, which is really annoying. I've done the following so far: The device manager says the adapter is working properly. I've updated to the latest driver The adapter is also turned on. I don't know what else I should do.
View 9 RepliesI just moved into a new apartment where there is already wireless internet set up in my office. I don't actually want/need wireless so I'm trying to connect to the wireless router (Linksys WRT110) via ethernet cable, but am getting "local access only". The other two computers that are connected to this router are connected to the internet and thus are NOT having this problem.
-I can not connect directly to the modem because then everyone else loses their internet access.
-firewall is off.
-ping test doesn't work, I can't ping anything since I can't get online AT ALL.
-I know my cable works; if I connect it to the modem, I can get online.
-I know the router works, because everyone else can get online. I tried to get help from Linksys, but they want $30 for one-time help, which, IMO, is BS.
Had an old PC running windows xp. Worked fine connected to my router using ethernet and powerline adaptors. Bought a PC from a mate running Vista Ultimate. Now I'm getting only about 5kb/s. Checked my router and reset it. OK. In fact, speed using wireless connection to router from another PC is absolutely fine so its not an internet/ISP problem. Checked my powerline adaptors and reset them. No difference. So, all I can think at the moment is:
1. Powerline adaptors have chosen this moment to play up. (although was working fine before).Getting hold of long CAT5 cable so I can plug directly into router to test this.
2. Ethernet interface on new PC is screwed. If so, I guess I can get hold of a PCI LAN card or something.
3. Somethings up with the Vista install. Maybe virus, malware etc. I did a malware sweep and it found some but no difference after cleaning this. Maybe I'll wipe it and install my old version of XP.
I used the reovery disk on my computer because it has been working super slow. So it recovered and everything turned out ok and fine. Except, now I an't connect to my 2wire router. It has been super frustratiing for me because i search the internet looking for solutions and can't find any that has worked for me. I've updated my drivers on my laptop, my router has the top newest firmware.
The weird part is, I onnected perfectly before I restored and my sister who has a Toshiba also (hers is a little bit newer) connects fine. My itouch connects fine. When i connect to a neighbors WEP wifi it connects (i just cant use it cause i dont know the key). I can connect to my 2wire using a ethernet cable (which is what im doing now). The error i get is: Log Name: System..........
I can't connect to the cable modem at all. There is just no way to get it working for whatever weird reason. I don't get assigned any gateway, I don't get any IP (so it rewerts to a funky 169.whatever adress). Now, I used to have this exact cable modem connected to my computer, with internet, 2 days ago. I would share internet trough the other ethernet port that I didn't use to another computer, and everything would work. Then we just had our internet crap on ourself the other day. And it was my computer that just felt like killing the internet. Ever since: My computer wont connect to the internet at all, it wont even communicate and get ip from the cable modem.
And before I get any questions on it: Took the cable from the cable modem, and jerked it into the other computer, and presto, I'm talking to you guys. No problems at all, and it worked instantly. Didn't even have to reset or restart or configure anything on the other one. Sadly the other computer only has 1 Ethernet port, and the cable modem wont work with any routers inbetween, and also only has 1 Ethernet port on it (yay for stupid hardware *sigh*). So with that and that it working not 2 days ago, makes me really wonder what is going on.............
I've got a Linksys router, it's a BEFSR41 v2 Etherfast 4-port cable/DSL router with 4-port switch. It's on the computer downstairs. This computer runs Windows XP. My brothers' upstairs is connected and working. It runs Windows 2000. Mine... I just had to replace. I went to Windows Vista Basic instead of XP. Now, I don't have an ethernet card, but is there any way I can get online with this computer anyway?
A long time ago, I went to a LAN party and my friend's freind downloaded some kind of driver to allow my computer to connect to the internet without needing an ethernet card. Damned if I remember the motherboard, this was four years ago. I just purchased an Intel Dual Core e5200 2.5 GHz. The motherboard is an MSI P6NGM LGA775 mainboard. It says it is NVIDIA MCP73 chipset based. Is there any kind of driver I can install for Windows Vista that bypasses the need for an ethernet card?

The issue:
My 1TB LaCie NetworkSpace is attached to my Linksys WRT54GL router via Ethernet cable.
Whenever I try to copy files from my NetworkSpace over onto my laptop(wirelessy), my cable modem disconnects from the internet and 3 green LEDs start to blink (Power, Online and Cable).
I am left with no internet access.
However, as soon as the file has finished copying my modem reconnects to the internet again. All LEDs go back to their normal state again and I regain access to the internet..........
i can't connect to the internet via cable! there's no lan cable icon even, i downloaded all the hardwares that are for this cause! from the hp website and installed them, but still nothing have been changed. i even re-installed it from the recovery manager and restared, but still no icon and when i plug in the cable nothing happens. i realy need ur help guys i dono whats the problem. i was using the cable before i restared and it was working good!

I bought my new computer, which has Vista (and I'm not familiar with it). So I got it home and tried to install my SBC Yahoo wireless internet. The network is fine but the USB adapter device can't be recognized. I went on the device support page and installed the driver information and it still won't work. Am I the only one out there with this problem?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a wireless issue at work with my Vista laptop. I am able to connect to my works wireless service ok, but cannot access the internet. I can connect to everything locally without issues but not the internet. I can do everything locally such as file/print, connect to exchange, etc. I even tried to ping the router/ default gateway but just get time outs even though it'son the same subnet.
All other laptops (which are Win XP) are able to access the internet from the wireless service without issue. When pinging the router they get successful responses. I've tried recreating wireless connection on vista laptop but issues

The router is connected to my PC. Cable modem connected to my router. I can access the internet with my PC. Netgear XE104 connected to the router. I can plug the laptop in to any outlet and see my PC. I can surf the net on my laptop. Netgear NAS connected to the network though an electrical outlet. The PC can see the NAS. the problem lies with my wireless network. t shows up on the PC as Home_wireless (I have changed the name). This network is visible on the laptop, SmartPhome, and PDA. All show signal strength as Fair to Excellent. But, none can access the net. I have read too many documents/web pages in the last 2 weeks and tried millions (OK, 'a lot') of variations. If it matters, although the laptop can see the wireless network, 'Network and Sharing Center' shows it as 'unidentified' and an 'X' between 'unidentified' and 'internet.' Laptop, PDA, Smartphone all accept the password wihout complaining. Finally, FWIW, the laptoo can find 3 networks although only 2 exist. The 3rd network shown is the old (I thought, deleted) network of several months ago. What am I missing? I hva found many documents guiding me through network setup but very few on troubleshooting.

I have created a VPN connection and it works until I'm connected to my company server. I then , and the Network and Sharing Center shows both connections as Local Only. If I disconnect the VPN, internet access is restored.It seems Vista cannot cope with two connections to different networks!
View 6 Replies View RelatedI upgraded my Vista Home Premium x64 to SP2 on 8/28. No problem until 8/31. Now I cannot get on the internet regardless of firefox, IE, or Chrome. The Windows Network Diagnostics did not find any problems. The network and Sharing center shows that I am connected to my network and then to the internet with no issues. IPv4 = Internet. IPv6 = limited.
Steps completed thus far:I rebooted the cable modem and the router (linksys wrt54g) I successfully pinged the x64 computer with a different cpu on the network. Status activity shows bytes sent and received successfully on the x64 system. I tried to system restore prior to SP2 upgrade but says failed, however System properties show that running SP1. I updated network card driver (intel 82567lf-2) to most recent - 7/23 I ran the Intel network card diagnostics and all test were sucessful Booted into safe mode with networking. Unsuccessful. Ran Hijackthis, nothing unusual. I am at a loss of what to do. I do even know how to describe the situation succinctly enough to search and see if others have had the same problem.
I installed Vista Business on a new computer (Asus P2) and it keeps loosing the internet connection intermittently. Local access always works. In the network are 3 computers, 2 Vista desktops, 1 XP Home which acts as a file and printer server and a Draytek router behind a cable modem. The 2 Vista PC's are new and both have the same problem. When the XP machine was the desktop PC this problem never occurred, and it still doesn't as the XP machine always has a live internet connection (the cable provider is wonderfully reliable). I went to the Library to make sure it just wasnt the certian connection at the apartment messed up but it would say connect there but not acces the internet, im not sure whats wrong the laptop is new and this is the first time it has happend.Even thought the strength is good and it says "connected" when i go to Network Sharing Center theres an X on the internet. View 9 Replies View RelatedThey had Norton Internet Security 2007 installed and it was really causing more problems than it was solving so I tried to uninstall it and the uninstaller wouldn't finish and Norton's removal tool (the latest downloaded from their website) appears to be broken since it keeps saying that it's expired and won't do anything. So following some instructions I found I manually removed the Norton Program directories and registry entries and reset the winsock lsp settings with "netsh winsock reset". However the Security Center now shows that the Firewall is on but when I go to Control Panel / Windows Firewall it says that the Firewall is off.
The problem is that despite having done all this any program other than Internet Explorer that needs internet access is being blocked. Spybot Search & Destroy is being blocked from downloading updates, FireFox can't access the internet, NOD32 is being blocked from download signature updates, etc.
I have a Samsung Vista Home laptop that has connected to the internet without problem for over 2 years. my firewall requests access to the internet for SQL - SQM as a Server. If I am running a Client machine and not a true server. I am using local network access, but not running a web server or FTP or anything. Do I really need SQL ? The same applies if I click Start / Help and Support - I am unable to access any of the live links under 'Ask Someone'.
