Windows Cannot Access The Specified Device, Path,

Dec 29, 2009

i decided to install Medieval 2 Total War yesterday after months of not playing it, it installed fine and everything but when i went to click on the shortcut on the desktop it came up with the following message: Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item So, i'm on the admin account and i've tried re installing but its the same message.

I tried to install CoD4 just now but when i put the disk in and clicked install nothing happened, just like when i try and launch medieval 2 from the disk (i only get the message when i use the shortcut). I also get the same message when i try and install the software for my webcam, i go to my computer and click the disk drive but the same message comes up! I can launch games i've already installed, just not games i actually want to play! Maybe something i've done is blocking it?

Open 'My Computer' "Windows Cannot Access The Specified Device, Path, Or File"

Jan 30, 2008

I have three computers networked together via a Linksys Wireless Router. One Dell running XP Pro, and two HP laptops (wireless) one running Vista Ultimate x64 and the other running Vista Home Premium x32. I have all issues resolved (that I've discovered so far anyway) except one. There is a shared external hard drive conneced via USB to the XP, which I have mapped to both Vistas. I can see it when I open 'My Computer' but when I click on it I get an error that says "Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have appropriate permissions to view the item." The odd thing about it is that I can access the contents of the drive by right-clicking on it and choosing either 'explore' or 'open.' I can access drives mapped from the Vista(s) to the XP on the XP just fine, just not the other way around.

External Hard Drive: Windows Cannot Access The Specified Device

Feb 28, 2009

I'm having a very strange problem with my External Hard Drives (I have 2). What happens is that I am unable to open either of the external Hard Drives in 'Computer' by double clicking them. It just doesn't do anything. But when I right click and select 'Open' it says: "Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item."

EDIT: Forgot to mention that I have checked the security details for the drives and I should be able to access them just fine. But here is where it gets weird. I can right click and select 'Explore' and it will open up like normal and I can browse the folders just fine! I used to be able to access these Hard Drives just fine before, but then they just went like this and I have no idea why. Since it happened to both Hard Drives simultaneously, I figure it is a Vista problem and not related to the specific drives.

Other symptoms are that the icon for the drives no longer shows up in 'Computer', although the name and disk space turn up fine. Also, I've noticed that the drives are operating much slower than usual, nearly a tenth of the normal read/write speed.

i have installed the correct driver for this belkin bluetooth usb dongle model: F8T012XX1 but in device manager, it has the belkin device and microsoft bluetooth enumerator, which is great. but when u get further down the list. it has a tab named "other devices" and then a subtab with "bluetooth peripheral device" which has an exclemation mark on it. i have searched for driver software using the update service but it cant find no update. i have looked for the name of the manufacturer but found nothing.i then disabled the unknown device, and sent a picture to my mobile phone. which confirmed that it was not the belkin bluetooth device. so i uninstalled the unknown device, restarted the computer. then when i logged in, it said that it had found a new device and wanted me to find the CD that came with it.

Unknown USB Device Without Any Device Plugged

May 1, 2009

I'm running Home Premium 64 on a Sony Vaio Laptop (CS170F). I'm having a curious problem: Yesterday I plugged into the machine the dongle of my wireless logitech mouse, and for some reason the machine said "Your unknown device is ready to use" (my OS is in spanish, the messages may not be accurately translated). Since then, an annoying message pops every few seconds warning about an "unrecognized USB device", that "didn't work as expected". The best part is this, if I click on the tray icon, sometimes the informative dialog window is emply, an other times shows all the USB ports in the system plus one extra with a "unknown UBS device", even without any device plugged into the system. I've tryed removing the unknown device from the device manager, but it shows up again.

Configure The Device On Every Windows Boot Again, So ReadyBoost Is Going To Use It

- What size should this USB Flash Drive have? -I read somewhere that it should be a 2.5:1 ratio (in my case 15GB then) for high-end systems. Is that right? - Do I have to configure the device on every Windows Boot again, so ReadyBoost is going to use it?

When I inserted the Flash Drive in the USB port Windows asked me to install the driver for the device. There was no software included with the Flash Drive. I checked the box requesting Windows to look for a driver through the Windows Update feature. It came back and said no driver could be found for this device. I then went to the manufacturer's website but they don't have a driver listed for this particular Flash Drive. I called Dell and all they could tell me is that Windows should have recognized the device automatically. how I can get Windows to recognize this device. How To Upgrade Path To Vista 64 Home

Oct 5, 2008

Windows Vista 64 home premium is arguably the most popular Operating System worldwide (for new computers) I have a legitimate copy of Windows Vista Home Premium 64 bit DVD in my possession, with the key ready, and everything.

1. A consumer cannot upgrade xp Professional to vista HOME edition without a clean install
2. A consumer cannot upgrade a 32 bit OS to 64 bit OS without a clean install
3. Theres no such thing as XP Home 64 bit OS
4. The upgrade key fails to activate a clean install (works upgrade only)

There seems to be no upgrade path available. Is this true? If this is true, isnt the concept of a 64 bit Vista Home premium Upgrade DVD useless? and if that is also true, then why did microsoft sell me this DVD?

Windows Mobile Device Center Will Not Launch (BIG PROBLEM)

WMDC (Windows Mobile Device Center) will not even open up for me.

I am having multiple problems and they are ALL Vista related not hardware, anti-virus related, or firewall related. I have a t-mobile wing. It used to sync up fine. But one day WMDC stopped working.

I tried to restore back to a previous restore point and Vista won't let me go back to ANY previous point. Windows Media Center won't let me play live TV either.I have NO more days left on my Vista support. I consider myself an advanced user and NOTHING I've tried has worked.
