every day my Vista SP1 gets disconnected from the corporate DFS share right after I stop working with my Vista SP1 Enterprise computer for an hour. We have two different type Vista SP1 computers in our network, and they both behave the same.
I just get an Event ID No 9, in Operational Log of Offline Files "Path disconnected. \company.comDFSshare", and that's it. Any clues. Power management, or something?
I have a Toshiba Qosmio running Vista with SP1. When I install new software and fill out the registration info, the computer knows my name, but not the name of my company. Instead it put in Toshiba. Where do I change this? I have looked into the Registry but found nothing.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI purchase a new PC with Vista Home Premium from BestBuy and had them install a graphics card. Well, evidently, they did the basic boot up and check up stuff. Now, everytime I install new software, the software grabs my name suggestion as being "owner" and my company "Hewlett Packard". Microsoft Office, Visual Studio 2008, everything. Of course, all I have to do is type in my correct name, but it is very aggravating. The name on my user account is "Bill" (I changed it when I got the computer home) but I cannot find where to change my default full name and company. It is NOT in Control Panel > User Accounts. Seems like this was easy to do in XP.

View 6 Replies View Relatedi have a problem with my usb ports, ok so like last week i got my computer back from the manufacturer, i accidently knocked it over, (but we didnt tell them that). but anyways, i installed itunes, and tried to plug in my ipod, this was the first usb device i plugged it since i got it back, and for some reason it worked fine for like 10 minutes, then automatically disconnected, then reconnected, and reapetedly keeps doing that whenever i try to plug in a usb device. i did not have this problem before i sent it to get repaired, and now i do.

I have disconnected the speakers and connected tem to my Ipod and they work a treat. Volume in System tray is on full, so is it in the "Spealers/ Headphone Properties". The vertical bar on the right shows that the System recognises the volume, i.e. the equaliser keps jumping! I can hear something when I turn up the volume on my speakers but the music is only slightly louder than the white noise! The problem occurs with mp3s, films, CDs and DVDs. Does anybody knwo what the problem could be and how to solve it?

So today I decided to call comcast (I have Comcast High Speed Internet) so when i called them they said that I needed a booster and that they would send a technition to hook it up. But is this really what i need?, is there anything i can do besides getting a booster? And what would this booster do?
View 9 Replies View RelatedIm currently using Vista 32bit, with comcast Connection 16 kbps. Whenever I try to connect to skype or Requiem ( game) I get disconnected for 20-30 secounds. I have reset my routher (Linksys), PC, Modems, ran straight line from my modem. Nothing seems to be fixing the issue. It almost appears to be a Vista issue! Comcast says my connection is 100% active and good! Im not to tech savy, but I can figure most of the basics out with ease.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a program trying to flash on my screen. It is every 12-15 seconds apart and only flashes for a half second. I have tried to click on it. I have disconnected from the internet as I thought maybe someone was trying to access my computer. Still does it. I ran3 different spyware and antivirus programs. Plus, I ran rkill (all 4 types). I still have the problem.
If I am typing while it flashes, it erases my typing. I have defragged, debugged in addition to running spyware and antivirus programs. After doing each one of them, I have restarted my computer. Still get that flash. It is driving me bonkers.
I am using my Bravia as a tv/monitor. Yesterday I connected my old AMD 2800 to it to do some testing. It runs on WinXP. Now that I have disconnected it and am using my main pc which runs on Vista Ultimate the icons in my taskbar are so low on the screen that I can barely see them; also the width of IE 8 is such that I cannot see the arrow in the upper left hand corner that brings you back to the previously viewed webpage; the x, _, and mimimize rectangle in the upper right hand corner are also not visible; and the icons on my desktop are so far to the left that they are only half visible. I checked the resolution and it has not changed. See the attached, pls. The only possible reason for this that I can think of is that while using the AMD 2800 pc I had to download updates to its video card to solve a problem that I was experiencing while using it.

Ive tried to send files, and it finds and recognizes the files i want to send... but when go to transfer them, hte flashes the disconnected sign near the exit button. View 4 Replies View RelatedWhen I've installed vista, the installation have set the boot manager to be on a different disk than the the boot loader. Now, if I want to remove the hard drive containing the boot manager, the system won't load, which is reasonable given these conditions, nonetheless I DO want to remove this hard drive and still be able to boot, therefore I've searched and queried everywhere and done the following: Physically disconnected the hard drive with the boot manager on it (d and boot with the Vista DVD to run startup repair -> this didn't help, the startup repair found the operation system but didn't recognize any problem, when trying to boot the system would not load, the error I'm getting when booting is disk read error occurred press ctrl+alt+del to restart.
(reconnected d:, and system boots flawlessly, then) I've manually changed the boot manger (and memory diagnostic, the only other bcd entry on the d: drive) location with bcdedit to c:, and now bcdedit (and VistaBootPro) show the boot manager (and memory diagnostic) in the c: drive, HOWEVER, if I try to boot from that drive I get the same error: disk read error.................

I have Vista Home Premium. With WinXP, the path to a file appeared in a text box at the top of Windows Explorer. So it was easy to copy and paste the path (for example, into a DOS console). Is there an option that allows us to display this path in Vista?

RIght clicking on the shortcut and looking at either Properties/general (which tells me where the "SHORTCUT "is located or Properties /shortcut gives me the line "Target" but just shows the name of the file and not its location. In XP The line "target" would show the path. How do I find the path?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have 2 PC, one with Vista Home Basic, and one with XP pro. I use a VPN connection to log into a win 2003 server on work. Everything works ok with the XP pro PC. I use a bat file to map a path on the server, but on the Vista PC I get error 53 (path not found) and it is impossible to map the path. I can ping the server by IP from both PC's.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI can access the Vista laptop through the desktop PC XP SP2 which is wired to the router but I can't acces the desktop pc via the laptop which is connected wirelessly, though it shows it in the "Network" window. I get an error that says Windows cannot access (computer name) error code:0x80070035 network path was not found. Then it offers to diagnose and then when it has finished, it says "Cannot communicate with (Computer name) 192.168.1.3" This seems strange as I can access Vista with XP but not XP with Vista.
View 5 Replies View Relatedi decided to install Medieval 2 Total War yesterday after months of not playing it, it installed fine and everything but when i went to click on the shortcut on the desktop it came up with the following message: Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item So, i'm on the admin account and i've tried re installing but its the same message.
I tried to install CoD4 just now but when i put the disk in and clicked install nothing happened, just like when i try and launch medieval 2 from the disk (i only get the message when i use the shortcut). I also get the same message when i try and install the software for my webcam, i go to my computer and click the disk drive but the same message comes up! I can launch games i've already installed, just not games i actually want to play! Maybe something i've done is blocking it?

Now AppData no longer appears and the Local folder is empty. Did the uninstaller cause this and is it necessary to have these items in the list? Just curious about why the original path is no longer there and if AppData and Local folders are necessary for anything. If so, how do I get them back? 1. A consumer cannot upgrade xp Professional to vista HOME edition without a clean install
2. A consumer cannot upgrade a 32 bit OS to 64 bit OS without a clean install
3. Theres no such thing as XP Home 64 bit OS
4. The upgrade key fails to activate a clean install (works upgrade only)
There seems to be no upgrade path available. Is this true? If this is true, isnt the concept of a 64 bit Vista Home premium Upgrade DVD useless? and if that is also true, then why did microsoft sell me this DVD?
I have installed RCT 3, when i press the short cut I get an error message saying "Windows cannot acess the specified device,path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to acess the item." And when I go in to computer and click on RCT3 it goes on to the little menu, I press play

In windows XP the "My Documents folder was lacated in a very logical place, on vista it is just called "Documents" and is arranged differently. My images and music etc are seperate from Documents folder and are all subfolders in my user profile. My question is: Is this path for Documents folder correct or should it be located in another place: "C:UsersUsers NameSaved GamesDocuments ?
