Bravia Tv/monitor Run On Winxp Disconnected Pc
Apr 5, 2010
I am using my Bravia as a tv/monitor. Yesterday I connected my old AMD 2800 to it to do some testing. It runs on WinXP. Now that I have disconnected it and am using my main pc which runs on Vista Ultimate the icons in my taskbar are so low on the screen that I can barely see them; also the width of IE 8 is such that I cannot see the arrow in the upper left hand corner that brings you back to the previously viewed webpage; the x, _, and mimimize rectangle in the upper right hand corner are also not visible; and the icons on my desktop are so far to the left that they are only half visible. I checked the resolution and it has not changed. See the attached, pls. The only possible reason for this that I can think of is that while using the AMD 2800 pc I had to download updates to its video card to solve a problem that I was experiencing while using it.

1) TaskManager by Alt+Ctrl+Del does not start immediately as opposed to WinXP. Alt=Ctrl+Del first enters a BlueScreen menu and only then you can select TaskManager from menu - an extra click over WinXP, what's the purpose of this moronity? Starting from Command prompt by 'taskmgr" [taskmgr.exe] is not an answer as it requires even more typing.
2) Shutting down & Sleep requires an extra click (or more) over WinXP: If you're a professional, you usually use keyboard heavily rather than slow mouse: In WinXP you Winkey+U+Enter and it shutsdown (or S for sleep).
In retarded Vista you have to go thru a dropdown menu. I don't even mention breaking down good old Appearance applet in Control panel (or rightclick on emapty desktop space-->properties) from tabbed menus into separate applets. Is that designed for morons who get sacred by Tabs? Or to waste more of our time versus WinXP?
If XP wasn't broken & only requires ongoing Security updates, why was it "fixed" with Vista rubbish? Not to mention Vista isn't bulletproof either, security-wise.

With much stumbling, I have been able to configure, via Control Panel, the printer settings on the WinXP desktop to print to the printer that is physically connected via USB cable to the Win7 desktop. When I File/Print and select the appropriate printer name from the dropdown list, the printing is fully successful. Attempting to apply the same steps with the Vista laptop fails. The printer was at one time installed and connected via USB to the laptop, and therefore an icon for it exists in Control Panel/Printers. I select the printer name, right click, properties, Ports, Add Port, Local Port.
When I got to this point on the WinXP computer, I had only to enter \XPS9000Canon Inkjet iP6700D as the port name, and all was good. But on the Vista laptop, I get an Local Port error window "Access is denied" Perhaps having three different operating systems adds complexity to networking a printer. when I go to Control Panel/Printers on the XP computer, the port name in properties is exactly as I specified above. A curious thing is that when I go to the Sharing tab, the spelling for the Share name is "CanoniP"

i found the solution for this problem, in Microsoft Page, under name Fix233567. Apparently only happens to certain Pc or combined rare hardware. In my pc, the transfer between WinXP pros Aprox 30 to 50mb/s with Vista 11mb/s and after few days 6mb/s. Now with this fix 30 to 50mb/s Copy process is very slow when you copy large files from one computer to another computer in a high-bandwidth network environment if both computers are running either Windows Vista or Windows Server 2008 Download Page:

It has been years, we have been transferring files between our home PCs and Laptops in our home network. But as we updated our Laptop with Vista SP1 & SP2, the network has become a one way only. We can transfer files to the rest of the network PCs, but the Vista Laptop does not let us in. We do see it listed in our network.
We had to re-format the laptop drive and as we loaded the Vista back again, we were able to transfer files two way, but as the SP1 and SP2 update was loaded, file transfer has become one way only. Did go through the setup on the Laptop drive as we did before. What are we missing in SP1 & SP2 updates?

I am new to Vista and in my work I write small programs In WinXP when I wish to copy a folder to all users I would use. For the Desktop screens: COPY C:FOLDERNAME C:Documents And SettingsALL USERSDESKTOPFOLDERNAME where FOLDERNAME is the folder containing icons and stuff. For Start Menu COPY C:FOLDERNAME C:Documents And SettingsALL USERSSTARTM~1PROGRAMSFOLDERNAME
Now I wish to do the same to Vista and Windows desktop. I need to copy to "ALL USERS" as when installing I would not know the name of the users , so it is best to send to ALL USERS in that computer. Hope someone here can assist let me know the exact instructions required to do the same for Vista or Windows 7?

some stage over the last week the sound of my PC has been set very low and I cannot find a way to increase it again. I have disconnected the speakers and connected tem to my Ipod and they work a treat. Volume in System tray is on full, so is it in the "Spealers/ Headphone Properties". The vertical bar on the right shows that the System recognises the volume, i.e. the equaliser keps jumping! I can hear something when I turn up the volume on my speakers but the music is only slightly louder than the white noise! The problem occurs with mp3s, films, CDs and DVDs. Does anybody knwo what the problem could be and how to solve it?

I added a second monitor to the GeForce 7100 GS using a DVI-VGA adapter and for the life of me cannot get it to display anything, the monitor is just in sleep mode. I've got the latest driver, Windows is up to date, checked the cables, tried another adapter, tried everything but, still nothing. The second monitor shows up in the device manager and in the Nvidia control panel. It's enabled and set to extend desktops. It seems the system knows it's there because I can move the mouse over, but cannot see anything. The power light on the second monitor just flashes. I've swapped monitors over, to make sure there's not a problem with the display and it's fine. When I do that, the main monitor is then plugged in to the DVI adapter and then that one goes to sleep. Just seems whichever monitor is plugged in to the DVI-VGA adapter just doesn't want to work........

Im currently using Vista 32bit, with comcast Connection 16 kbps. Whenever I try to connect to skype or Requiem ( game) I get disconnected for 20-30 secounds. I have reset my routher (Linksys), PC, Modems, ran straight line from my modem. Nothing seems to be fixing the issue. It almost appears to be a Vista issue! Comcast says my connection is 100% active and good! Im not to tech savy, but I can figure most of the basics out with ease.

every day my Vista SP1 gets disconnected from the corporate DFS share right after I stop working with my Vista SP1 Enterprise computer for an hour. We have two different type Vista SP1 computers in our network, and they both behave the same.
I just get an Event ID No 9, in Operational Log of Offline Files "Path disconnected. \company.comDFSshare", and that's it. Any clues. Power management, or something?

I have a program trying to flash on my screen. It is every 12-15 seconds apart and only flashes for a half second. I have tried to click on it. I have disconnected from the internet as I thought maybe someone was trying to access my computer. Still does it. I ran3 different spyware and antivirus programs. Plus, I ran rkill (all 4 types). I still have the problem.
If I am typing while it flashes, it erases my typing. I have defragged, debugged in addition to running spyware and antivirus programs. After doing each one of them, I have restarted my computer. Still get that flash. It is driving me bonkers.

When I've installed vista, the installation have set the boot manager to be on a different disk than the the boot loader. Now, if I want to remove the hard drive containing the boot manager, the system won't load, which is reasonable given these conditions, nonetheless I DO want to remove this hard drive and still be able to boot, therefore I've searched and queried everywhere and done the following: Physically disconnected the hard drive with the boot manager on it (d and boot with the Vista DVD to run startup repair -> this didn't help, the startup repair found the operation system but didn't recognize any problem, when trying to boot the system would not load, the error I'm getting when booting is disk read error occurred press ctrl+alt+del to restart.
(reconnected d:, and system boots flawlessly, then) I've manually changed the boot manger (and memory diagnostic, the only other bcd entry on the d: drive) location with bcdedit to c:, and now bcdedit (and VistaBootPro) show the boot manager (and memory diagnostic) in the c: drive, HOWEVER, if I try to boot from that drive I get the same error: disk read error.................

I have a Dell Vostro 1000 laptop configured on a static IP address. With the network connected all works as expected. When disconnected and rebooted networking is not active and the adapter is shown as "Media disconnected". I have tried to disable media sensing (which would fix this on Windows XP) by doing:-
1. Adding a DisableDHCPMediaSense DWORD with value 1 to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESystemCurrentControlSetServicesTcpipParameters
2. Running the following commands as an Administrator:- netsh interface ipv4 set global dhcpmediasense=disabled. netsh interface ipv6 set global dhcpmediasense=disabled. Neither options appear to have had the desired affect.

I know this isn't a Graphics Card related thing, but it is the closest I can get.
At the moment I have a Hyundai ImageQuest Q17, and I think it's way to small, that's why I will be doing a student job in the Summer Vacation, what screen do you guys recommend? Here are a few things it should have.
- Good brand, a brand you can trust.
- Widescreen
- 19' or up
- NO reflecting screen
- DVI
- Compatible with Vista
What do you guys recommend?

Recently I have bought a gaming PC, and after a few hours of such
gaming, my monitor goes to sleep, the PC is still running and I can
still be playing my game. just without a monitor!
The only way to get the monitor to work is to restart the PC.
Any ideas what the problem could be? At first I suspected an
overheating Graphics card, but could it be other things? could it be a
RAM problem? what could cause this? Has anyone else had this problem?
I would like to make it very clear that it is not a problem with Vista,
or its power settings, as the computer remains runnings. It is also very
unlikely to be the monitor as I bought it new yesterday.

Been having a monitor issue lately ever since I installed SP2 for Vista 64bit. Sometimes when I turn the PC on the monitor goes into immeadiate sleepode (the power button blinks). I don;t even see the BIOS boot screen....nothing...just black.
I sometimes can hear windows loading but nothing is on the screen. At other times I don't hear Windows loading at all.
I'm thinking it's a BIOS problem or maybe even a MB problem.
I would appreciate some help on this. I've never had this problem before SP2
Weirdness continues....managed to get some sort of display happening only to be told my windows system files are corrupted and that I need to do a repair...which I am doing now after several attempts to get the BIOS to boot from the DVD drive
Well I bit the bullet and restarted the PC...dissapointed to say that it's didn;t work.
It seems like the BIOS isn;t loding any basic video nor is windows.
Sometimes it just doesn;t even seem to be booting into BIOS at all.

I just bought a new Samsung LCD monitor with native resolution of 1920x1080 pixels that provides nice sharp display on my older XP desktop, but a pretty mediocre one as an external monitor on my newer HP notebook. Both systems use nVidia graphics cards, though not identical models. The XP uses GeForce4 MX 4000 card and the Vista notebook came
with GeForce Go 6150 (UMA) chip. I wonder if Vista may have something to do with the poorer display or the different nVidia chip alone. I assumed the Go 6150 was a more capable chip and if anything, I expected even a better performance from it. In both cases the display res is set to 1920x1080 at 60 Hz, but the text display from the notebook looks pretty lousy.

I have a Viewsonic 28" LCD monitor (model vx2835wm) which is pretty good, but not the greatest quality to say the least. It is 1080p supported too.
However, I need something of better quality. My question is the monitor *must* have 1900x1080 resolution specifically to be 1080p supported correct, even if it offers higher resolution options?
Example:
Dell 27" UltraSharp Widescreen Flat Panel Monitor
Higher resolutions, 1920x1200 too, but not 1920x1080 specifically. Would this be a bad idea for Blu-Ray movies (my Sony laptop has a built in Blu Ray player)?
