Jun 28, 2009I am running Windows Vista 64bit edition on an Asus P5Q Deluxe motherboard, Intel Q9540 2.66gz Quadcore processor with 4gb RAM. My system has been running fine for the last year and just last night (27th June 2009) windows told me there were 3 updates that should be installed. I only noticed one of the update names which was Internet Explorer 8, the other 2 were security updates or something - really not sure though. The total of the downloaded updates was around 280mb.
Anyway... So I started installing the updates and walked away. When I came back there was a Terms & Agreement box for Internet Explorer 8 which I agreed to. Once that finished it came back to my desktop and said "windows needs to restart to configure the updates, please restart now."..........
Stops During Virus Scan, Cannot Download Windows Security Updates
Apr 9, 2009Windows just stops during virus scan (Trend Micro)- eventually have to crash it Sometimes during logon, Windows just wanders away....either have to crash it or eventually it will reboot. Cannot boot in safe mode. It will get so far in loading dll files and then reboots it self after a period of inactivity. Cannot download latest Windows security updates.
The symptoms sound like the conflicker worm so I've tried the Sysclean tool recommended by Trend Micro with the latest pattern file. The system stops at some point just as it does with the virus scan and I have to crash it. If I log on to the latop and just surf or play games, no problem. I've also run sfc /scannow which reports no problems.
Can't Patch Beyond 1.4 In CoH W/ Vista 64
Dec 10, 2007I can install CoH from my DVD no problem. The game works. When I try to patch it, the game becomes corrupt. I can get patch 1.40 to install, after that it is a no go. I am completely frustrated. I must be having a hardware conflict or a corrupt install disc. I do a selective startup with only Windows services running. Each an every time I get this error message involving this file "ww2data.sga" and this code: Error 10104. Anyone else on Vista 64 experiencing this problem? Aug 24, 2008After installing the patch the singleplayer is fine but it seems multiplayer is broken. If I start a server it loads the map but locks up straight away, also looks as though it's missing textures(random black spots) It even crashes from menus if I try and change my character as its also missing textures (all black) Ive tried uninstalling, reinstalling etc. Latest Catalyst drivers, card is a 4870. Running as admin, compatability mode etc make no difference, weird as it works fine with no patch, unfortuantely all the servers require 1.42.

Mouse Not Recognized After Reboot Following The 04/08 Patch
Apr 9, 2008I have a new system that has been working flawlessly til this patch. vista64 home premium, and the offending device is a microsoft usb wheelmouse optical.Now when ever I reboot it says new hardware found and driver instillation failed. I downloaded and installed intellipoint 6.1 for 64bit. and device manager shows no conflict and if i just clear out of the error boxes it works fine. Just everytime I reboot it does same thing again. It in fact, it cannot even recognize the device it is trying to install drivers for which is why i think it fails the driver update on reboot. I found out the hard way by telling vista to ignore the problem and it promptly disconnected the mouse altogether. I tried restoring to a point before the patch but it did not fix
the problem. One of the patches warned that it cannot be removed , so my guess is that is what is causing the problem.

Still, for many IT organizations and even consumers, today's out-of-band Internet Explorer patch is late enough to be trouble. Who wants to be distributing patches during the annual holiday party (assuming your company has one and it's no wake for those employees surviving layoffs)? For some consumers, that patch didn't come soon enough; they've been exploited already...........

Mar 23, 2008I'm having trouble enabling AHCI under Windows Vista Business x64. I initially installed the OS with AHCI enabled in the BIOS, but I receive stop code 7B upon reboot. The only way to get the OS to boot is to disable AHCI in the BIOS. The last time I installed the OS, I was able to apply a registry patch and manually copy IaStor.sys (from the Intel Matrix Storage Manager driver) into the WindowsSystem32drivers folder. This would allow me to boot and run the system with AHCI enabled, and utilize the Intel Turbo Memory flash cache module I installed. Mar 11, 2010Desktop PC will be one year next month. I did not renew the Microsoft Office after trial period that came as a package w/ no future intention of acquiring it. I'm using the free Open Office program - word processing mostly at this time. Is there anything in the list below that is of importance? I only have a basic PC with DVD player for movies, etc. No scanner, printer or fax. Not even external hard drive or usb flash drive. Otherwise, I understand that I can just choose to hide the updates, so it will not keep reminding me. Also, I choose to keep my OS w/ Srvce pk 1 and MS IE version 7 for as long as I'll be able to. Why Updates?
Mar 23, 2010I looked at my recent updates and was astonished that there are 96 of them.
It seems to me that software that has 96 problems shouldn't be available for sale.
Each time I download a new update my system gets a little more crappy.
Its a lot like selling you a junk car that doesnt work and then giving you the parts one at a time to try and get it running properly.

In my previous post
Having trouble deciding which updates to install , I was having issues with my computer freezing after installing some updates. I found out that not all the updates that Windows tells me about actually apply to my computer. The issues are now resolved and I have even downloaded SP1 withouut issues! (Imagine the Snoopy happy dance here)
This morning, 5 more updates appeared. I have my computer set to tell me about them, but not download til I tell it to. I have looked them up on the Microsoft website, but wanted to ask advice before I go ahead and install and put my foot in again...
They are:
4 updates for Windows Vista, 3 important, 1 recommended
KB951978-the website says this one is for XP SP3?
KB952709-improves reliability
KB955302-I have seen some posts on other forums describing issues installing this
KB957200-reliabiliy (not much more info than that)
and
KB 940157 Windows Search 4D for vista. Recommended.
Will Not Run Updates
Jul 25, 2008Vista Home Basic. Trying to check for updates comes up with error 0x8007051a. The link provided does not include this error number. Each boot shows a "Configuring Updates" message. An immediate reboot after successful log on shows the same message. I have done a full System Recovery to rebuild the OS but it gives the same error. Naturally trying to install SP1 fails too. Windows Update service is shown as "running".?

So, I downloaded it from:

I installed it, but the update was still showing and it still wanted to install the update - but I thought that's what I just did manually! Why did it still want to install it?
I hid the update from the Windows Update screen.
The next day, two updates came in - security updates for:
Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Service Pack 3 and
Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Service Pack 2
The update for Service Pack 3 installed successfully but the update for Service Pack 2 failed (Error Code 733F).
I hid the Service Pack 2 update, but it keeps coming back!
What am I supposed to do?
