Jun 28, 2008Hey all, I'm sure you've heard it before but im getting vista BSOD errors and dmp files are being created I tried looking at it myself but I'm not sure whats wrong I was hoping if someone had a second they can take a peek at it? Jun 9, 2008I was sure to save my files every half hour or so, thinking that that would be enough to not lose my work in the event of a malfunction. However, I pressed save and my entire summary of work simply disappeared! Fair enough. I wouldn't be so angry, but this is the second time it has happened. The first time (on my previous computer), it completely erased 7 weeks of work. So, I got a new computer, and guess what? It has happened again. Not only that, but a BRAND NEW computer has had the blue screen of death twice in the last month. Before it died at 6 months of age, my last computer had the blue screen regularly (at least 3 times a week). This has never happened on any of my other computers before that.
This loss of work has also happened to 2 of my friends. I have also noticed, that
anything that makes the hard drive work hard, also results in blue screen. The only link that I can see between the 2 computers, is vista. I also find, that my computer has to think hard about all the appearance graphics and animations that have been put on Vista to make it look nice. I have simply ditched the niceties and opted for performance, even though my desktop now looks like window 95. What did I get? Blue screen............

Everything was working beautifully, I was very happy that it all went well and I had no major problems getting set up. Blue Screen Of Death During "Expanding Files"
Apr 9, 2008Against the advice of all of my colleagues, I am trying to install Vista on a new computer I've assembled. Every single component is supposedly Vista-compatible (in fact, I just upgraded to a $200 video card so Vista would run). But I cannot get past the blue screen of death during the "Expanding Files" stage of installation. Soon after it reaches 1% I get a "System Service Exception" and there's a hexidecimal code below that ends in "3B". I can provide the specs of all the hardware in my system if required. What would you do, short of giving up and just installing XP?

Feb 13, 2009Problem Blue Screen. No new hardware or software installed recently, last Windows vista update was on 01/15. When I start first, PC passes user registration (boots fine) and
does the normal stuff like loading software and starting the wireless internet connection via Netgear, opening some windows/programms I will close. All normal, but than comes a Blue Screen and very fast shut down of system with restart. Hardly can read the message...Look like Blue Screen appears when to much action is going on like opening of IE and Outlook... or open to many windows... or some bad programm/hardware is booting. But when I restart, restart gives a different blue screens and trouble is much earlier or directly after registering to the system.
But all starting or booting turn slower, real slow now. Start in --safe mode with net working-- the PC works, but the PC can't handle heavy workloads, is really slow in action. I cannot open --My pictures-- to see all picture files displyed on screen (2.7 GB) (the process trying to access the files in safe mode is real slow) and when I attempt to transfer the file to a USB stick, the computer is stopping in middle of action (after 50% transfer)..........

Working beautifully for many months, and then a few
weeks ago this began happening:
Perhaps 2-3 times a week, and with no consistency of circumstances, a blue screen will appear. It might happen while working or when returning from hibernate. There's a countdown as memory is stored, and then a freeze. The only way to recover is to do a hard OFF (5 seconds on the power switch) and restart. When it first happened, I had not installed or changed anything, so I was comfortable doing a restore. It happened again.
It's confusing because the stated cause is inconsistent. I've checked to ensure that all drivers are updated and nothing that's contraVistarian is installed. What analytical steps can I undertake to discover what's causing this, and then to help me make the necessary changes?

Jul 14, 2009While installing a program, the process was interrupted and the install created 62000 files using 160gig in my syswow64 folder virtually using all my hd space. However when you go into the syswow64 folder, there is only about 2000 files and 1 gig of space used. I have set the folders to show all hidden files. When I go into the ms dos prompt and do a directory, the files match the 1 gig data.
I can't delete these 62000 files and free up the 160 gig space because I don't believe they are actually there on the hard drive but explorer thinks they are there. Is there any way to rebuild, sync, or otherwise get windows explorer to recognize the correct amount of files that are actually in my syswow64 folder.(2000files 1gig and not 62000files 160gig)

Aug 27, 2008I am running Vista Ultimate 32 bit. I have a folder on my desktop named Downloads that I use for, shockingly, downloads. Anyway, there are a couple of files in the folder that are, apparently, not really there. They are like ghost files. They used to exist but now they are still visible but not recognized by any program. Also, they have a size of 0 kb!
I'd like to get rid of them but they refuse to be deleted. When I try to delete them, I get this:

May 8, 2009A multitude of files, folders and sub-folders have disappeared (all from my "Documents"). Miscellaneous sub-folders within folders have disappeared, while other sub-folders remain intact. At first I was completely lost, as the files were there not 30 minutes prior... After assuming the worst and thinking that they had corrupted or been deleted due to a virus, I:
- Made sure my folder options were set properly (I can view all hidden files)
- Thoroughly checked the recycle bin
- Did numerous searches
- Downloaded Google Desktop and searched some more
- Ran various "undelete" and "recovery" programs with no results
- Did a system restore...........

When I doubleclick on the exe file, instead of the application installing, what should happen but Word of all things opens with, in the case of one of them a box headed 'File Conversion - arw5setup.msi', and a similar wording in the second, asking me to select the encoding that makes my document readable. Whatever I select, the exe file then opens as a text file.
(The reference to an msi file is baffling as both files were exe files.) When it happened the first time I thought it was a corrupt file, but when it happened again it has to be that there is something wrong with my system. Is this a virus? Spybot has just come up with a clean slate ...

I have a open slot for another optical drive on my desktop and was wondering if I can install a blue ray reader and writer instead of a dvdcd drive.I would like to backup some of the blue ray disc's that I have and perhaps watch the blue ray movies on my computing machine. I assume that the blue ray disc's content is much more dense then a dvd and stores much more data.I have DVD Fab 6.
