Using Recovery Disks To Install Vista To New Non-factory HD

Aug 22, 2008

The tech at HP told me that I need to use the exact same hard drive (Fujitsu 120G) that came with the notebook originally to use the recovery disks to reinstall Vista. Is that true? I wanted to use a Western Digital 160G HD instead.

VISTA OEM Install: Install Of Vista Instead Of Using The Recovery Disks

Feb 28, 2009

I have hp laptop with Vista Home Premium (OEM) installed. I've made Recovery Disks using the Recover Manager. I wish to have a clean install of Vista instead of using the Recovery Disks. I've read previous threads but I have to say I am only getting more confused.

- Can I perform clean install of my Vista OEM?
- Can I use any copy of Vista OEM cd and use the Product Key sticked behind my laptop?.........

Reinstall Vista Using The Provided Recovery Disks

Jan 8, 2010

I want to reinstall Vista using the provided recovery disks using my laptop, and then set up 7 as a dual boot. You know, have Vista for those games, and have 7 for everything else.

I have an Asus G51VX-RX05, which also is referred to as simply G51VX (Best Buy). Yes, I've heard it a million times, don't buy a computer at best buy. I know, I know. I won't do it again, I promise. So I want to use the provided recovery discs from my laptop to reinstall Vista. When I was installing 7 over Vista, I followed this: Clean Install Windows 7 - How to Perform a Clean Installation of Windows 7 - Part 1 of 3...........

Factory State Recovery

May 2, 2009

I have made a mistake and I am struggling to get out of this mess, I hope Shawn or someone who experienced this problem can help me out.

I was doing the Factory state recovery using Alt+F10 while booting in my Acer Aspire laptop, everything was fine until the "Acer Launch" window appeared. The last process Install eRecovery solution is not completing. The AL window just sitting in the middle of the screen and couldn't be moved. I tried to disable it from startup, msconfig window vanishes behind the Acer Launch window.

I think the cause of this problem is I forgot to create the 2nd(D: data) partition prior to starting the Recovery process.

My original set up was like this:

EISA hidden partition

C: system partition

D:data partition

I have deleted the D: partition and extended the C partition

I have created Recovery disc but I don't have Vista installation DVD as my machine is OEM version of Vista on it. I do have an Anytime upgrade DVD which came with the laptop when I bought.

Factory Installed OS Recovery Disc

Oct 20, 2009

Anyway, can the recovery created disc you make at first use of your pc, restore your computer back to the factory defult after you do a complete clean install of another OS? Say, I go from the Vista premium 64bit that was installed in the laptops stock form, to Xp 64bit from a offical OS disc, back to the Vista 64bit factory install.... lol follow that? It sounds way better inside my head then it sounds read out loud. Maybe thats where it should of stayed...?

Also, the Vista key that is used on my laptop from the factory installed OS, can it be used If I were to try and use the same OS to do a clean install, but from an offical cd? Basicly, would my key that I am currently using, work if I use it on a OS disc install? I just want to make sure I can get this thing back to "fresh out the box" stands if need be. For the windows 7 update, or to return shortly if I can not get issues resolved on my own.

Home 32 Bit Recovery Disks Not Labeled?

Jul 29, 2009

My son sent me his Compaq laptop w/Vista installed and it wouldn't boot at all. Finally got it restored by using F11 and it is booting up again. They sent me 3 recovery disks, however none of them are labeled, so, I was hoping someone could help me get them labeled correctly because I am always the one in the family everyone calls when there are computer problems. *When I explore the disks there are folders as follows:* One disk has folder called: Preload Next disk has folders called: Boot and preload Third disk has folders called: Preload and tools. Anyone know how these would be labeled correctly??

OEM Version Installed With The Recovery Disks?

Oct 13, 2008

I just bought a new HP Pavilion pc that came preloaded with Vista Home Premium 64bit. It also came loaded with a bunch of crap so I just want to blow it away and install a clean Vista OS. Unfortunately, HP only includes a recovery partition from wich you build reccovery disks. I called HP support and they informed me that the only way to get OS disks is to purchase the OS from Microsoft. I argued that I had already done so by purchasing the pc with a licensed copy of Vista preloaded.

They said it was an OEM version which can only be installed with the recovery disks and that I should just uninstall the unwanted programs. I have the Windows Vista product key sticker on the side of the pc so can someone tell me if I purchase a media only version of Vista can I activate it with the OEM product key that came with the pc? And if anyone has any other ideas I'm all ears.

Creating ISO Images Of Recovery Disks

Feb 12, 2010

My two vista recovery disks. Can i make "ISO" images out of these using "imgburn" i really just thought it would be a good idea to have the two recovery disks that i have as "ISO" images, so i can have these on my other computer as a backup copies...

I have been learning about the "imgburn" program, and thought it would be a good idea to get some practice on creating some ISO images. So if this is fine and ok to do, what would normally happen when i inserted the first disk, would i just cancel out anything that pops up. Windows vista home premium

Re-install VISTA Business Without Recovery Disc

I was given a HP Compaq 6820s by a good friend with a bad hard drive. He had not made recovery discs, and HP can't supply them. I can replace the hard drive no problem, but don't want to fork over the $$$ for a new Vista OS. I have XP pro, but there seems to be too many issues with downgrading. I have the COA on the bottom of the computer. Since the OS was definitely paid for with the original purchase, can I get an OS from MS for this computer?

Preparing For Factory Re-install

Jul 29, 2009

I have a Dell insperon 530S. I think its time for a factory re-install. I am confused about how to save all my doc's, music, pix, etc before I do this. The kids use I-tunes, I have folders of music in different formats ( I think), we have Kodak and Olympus picture folders, old email in two different identities, and on and on. Is there a step-by-step on how to do this correctly, so I don't lose stuff and I am able to find and save everything I need? I'm figuring I will burn everything to a DVD or two, but I don't know....

Freezes After Factory Reinstall And Removal Of Win7 Install

May 15, 2010

I own a Gateway NV52 that I purchased almost a year ago. Last month, I installed Windows 7 64-bit on it since I missed having Best Buy do the free upgrade. After the install, I re-downloaded and re-installed my old programs and somewhere during the process, the laptop keep freezing - just a black screen. It tended to happen when I plugged in my wireless mouse.

After trying to fix the issue for Win7, I gave up and re-installed Vista 64 from the Gateway recovery disks. After this fresh install, my USB mouse still seemed to be the issue, so I stopped using it. It seems to not be the problem, however, since it freezes randomly while in the middle of working in programs or idle and nowhere near transitioning to screen saver.

I've run antivirus and antispyware software and come up empty. I'm unsure what to do next, since Gateway tech support seems to be stumped as well. Are there any options I should check before breaking down and shipping this out?

Vista 64 Bit - Cannot Boot With 3 Hard Disks

Aug 4, 2009

I have just installed Vista Ultimate 64 Bit (on my 500 GB Seagate hard disk, the main hard disk). Then, I added 2 more hard disks (a 1 TB Hitachi and another 500 GB Seagate), so now I have 3 SATA hard disks installed. However, Vista cannot start. Sometimes, it stuck on the boot screen (the one with the scrolling green bar), sometimes it just show black blank screen. I then tried to disconnect, completely, the 2 hard disks I just installed. Vista can boot properly, I can access my data from both hard disks without problem.

When only the 1 TB Hitachi and the main hard disk are connected, Vista can boot properly and I can access my data from both hard disks without problem. When only the other 500 GB Seagate and the main hard disk are connected, Vista can boot properly, I can access my data from both hard disks without problem. However, if I connect the 3 hard disks at the same time, vista doesn't want to boot. I already installed the SATA controller driver from the CD that comes with the motherboard.

My system spec:
- Motherboard: Asus Striker Extreme
- Processor: Intel Core2Duo Dual Core 2.4 Ghz
- RAM: 4 GB (4x1 GB) DDR2
- Graphic Card: Nvidia 8800GTS, from ASUS
- 2 DVD Writers (LG and Sony), both IDE
- 1 Floppy Disk Drive

SP2 Wont Install And Recovery Not Work

Jul 25, 2009

I am really frustrated. I installed SP2 on my 32 bit Vista Ultimate and it failed on stage 3 of 3 at 100% and rewound itself and rebooted. I then tried my 64 bit system and it installed fine. Tried my 32bit system again and it failed so bad I had to restore C from a backup. Even a recovery would not work. Then did searches as to why this may be happening and tried all the bits advised. Ran the SFC and it reported errors and said it fixed them, ran it again and it found no errors, did the rearm thing even though I did not use any betas and my version is activated, ran the SP2 readyness and it reports no errors, have no disk management software installed so that is not the issue but everytime after it gets to stage 3 of 3, 100% it sits there for ages spinning the disk and then fails and reverts the changes.

Have used the online update and also the standalone update and that reports an E_FAIL (0x80004005). The log file that is produced is huge and gives so much information you can't make head nor tail out of it. I am certainly not taking MS's option and doing a complete reinstall as then I would have to reinstall all of my software and bother heaps of companies for activations again.
