Unknown USB Device Without Any Device Plugged
May 1, 2009I'm running Home Premium 64 on a Sony Vaio Laptop (CS170F). I'm having a curious problem: Yesterday I plugged into the machine the dongle of my wireless logitech mouse, and for some reason the machine said "Your unknown device is ready to use" (my OS is in spanish, the messages may not be accurately translated). Since then, an annoying message pops every few seconds warning about an "unrecognized USB device", that "didn't work as expected". The best part is this, if I click on the tray icon, sometimes the informative dialog window is emply, an other times shows all the USB ports in the system plus one extra with a "unknown UBS device", even without any device plugged into the system. I've tryed removing the unknown device from the device manager, but it shows up again.

May 19, 2008I have a Lenovo Thinkpad T60p and a Lenovo USB Webcam. I installed SP1 and the camera stopped working so I uninstalled SP1 and it still doesn't work, it appears as "Unknown device". Is Microsoft going to publish some solution? I see all the reports and there are a lot people having the same problem.Should I come back to XP?

Nov 24, 2008I have windows vista x64 installed. My system is an AMD 64 X2 6000+, ASUS M2A - VM motherboard. I cannot figure out what device is unknown. Can someone give me any ideas what it could be? I've used Driver Detective and it says all of my drivers are up-to-date.

Mar 4, 2009Vista Home Premium SP1. Is it possible to use more than one device in a single USB port? The reason I ask is that I have five USB ports, four at the back and one at the front. As the one at the front is more accessible, I use this for a Joystick I occasionally use. Can I also use this same port for another device, in this case an MP3 player, not at same time?

Nov 15, 2009I get an unknown device warning in my device manager. It is for my graphics card. I click reinstall driver. It finds the driver but says it encounters a problem when installing. Its says: Nvidia GeForce 9200M GS access denied. I downloaded new drivers from Nvidia, installed them, restarted, no good. Tried uninstalling the device, restarting, installing driver = no good.

Nov 15, 2008I have updated my bios ,update came out last month, and still under the device manager it shows "unknown device". The BIOS recognizes it and the Sytem under Control Panel recognizes it. USB Media Reader "Unknown Device"?
Mar 10, 2009Have a 6 in 1 USB 2.0 Internal Media Card Reader on an old eMachine (D2266) that ran and worked on Win XP Pro x32. There is no Manufacturer's ID Tag anywhere on this unit. I installed this card reader into my Vista Home Premium x64 machine. Then plugged into an available motherboard USB port and turned on computer. The power light on the media reader lit indicating power, and Vista claimed "device successfully installed". Inserted a SD media card and device is not working. A check of device manager reveals an 'Unknown Device" on the roothub a check on the 'Drivers Tab'reveals "There are no installed drivers for this device" or something to that effect.

Apr 25, 2008I have evga motherboard with built in Realtek HD audio (ALC883). Board features 2 ports for digital audio (optical and coaxial). and according to manual both are output. However when installed vista drivers one of the ports has been chosen as digital output (optical) and another as digital input (coax) (i can see that when i hover the mouse over the jacks in "Realtek HD audio manager") Is there any way to make the coaxial port as an output port instead of optical? My my HT reciver has no free optical ports so i have to use coax to get some sound from the computer.

Apr 4, 2008I have a Creative Zen Micro Mp3 player. It always worked fine with my old Laptop (windows XP) and it originally worked with this laptop (windows Vista). Then after my computer crash and I had to restore everything, it stopped syncing right with the computer. Every time I plug the USB cable in, it says the device is not connected. Now, another problem is that I have to update the firmware on my Mp3 player in order for it to work (So I can also put more music onto it). But in order to do that, I need it to connect.and before I forget: Yes, I tried changing USB cords and different USB ports.

Aug 29, 2009Just installed a Creative X-FI titanium and worked perfectly in Vista 64 bit. I had to use the PCIE x4 slot as the X1 slot would not fit on the motherboard due to the heat sinks. It really did make a huge difference in the sound quality from the on board sound.

Creative X-Fi Audio Console Doesn't Work Properly
Aug 17, 2009Prior to formatting my computer my soundcard and its software worked perfectly however after i formatted, my creative audio console doesnt really work properly. For example. Before if i adjusted the master volume in the audio console, it would synronise and adjust the volume in the default windows sound mixer now it doesnt. Secondly before if i plugged in headphones the sound would autmatically go through the headphones and mute the speakers. Now if i open the console and go to the headphones section, I have mute speakers checked and automatically enable headphone settings checked and if i plug in my headphones, sound still comes out of speakers but if i press test in the audio console, the test lady voice comes through the headphones whilst other sounds still continues through the speakers. I have reinstalled the drivers twice now and updated the drivers.

I have tried going into the display settings and advanced settings then troubleshooting but my computer does not allow me to change it as the icon is grayed out.

Sep 30, 2008i have installed the correct driver for this belkin bluetooth usb dongle model: F8T012XX1 but in device manager, it has the belkin device and microsoft bluetooth enumerator, which is great. but when u get further down the list. it has a tab named "other devices" and then a subtab with "bluetooth peripheral device" which has an exclemation mark on it. i have searched for driver software using the update service but it cant find no update. i have looked for the name of the manufacturer but found nothing.i then disabled the unknown device, and sent a picture to my mobile phone. which confirmed that it was not the belkin bluetooth device. so i uninstalled the unknown device, restarted the computer. then when i logged in, it said that it had found a new device and wanted me to find the CD that came with it.

Aug 2, 2007I can sucessfully load up the game and all however whenever i try to join a multiplayer game(says "Joining Server... then crashes" or finish loading a single player game(after the textures are loaded or the shaders it just crashes) OR whenever i click audio in settings my game(right after i click audio it just goes boom) just crashes back to desktop with the BF2142.exe error. I've read about many different crashes with other people but this seems different, people have had crashes during map changes, splash screen, and a few secs after joining the server, havent seen anyone with my problem of crashing when i see the "joining server.." box.
I've tried
1)reinstalling/repatching
2)run the exe as admin.
3)disable UAC and reinstall/repatch after restart
Im pretty sure my computer can handle the game, my old one did fine and this one owns it. Im kind of lost, I've tried many things and this freaking game just doesnt want to work.
Game Freezes: Game Won't Run Correctly
Jan 5, 2008I installed SS2 on this PC (runs windows vista home premium 32bit), but sadly the game won't run correctly. I've looked around a little bit, and I see that not watching the videos is a common problem. But that's not my main problem <:/ I can run the game just fine for about 30 seconds... suddenly, it just freezes. The last sound is looped, and the mouse is frozen.
