Whenever I try to open an attached (so far all Excel files) file to an incoming e-mail in Windows Mail, I am getting following Windows (Vista) message: "Windows cannot find 'file name w/ path'. Make sure you typed the name correctly and try again." Clearly this message is misleading since I have not typed any file name and/or its path. I just double-clicked the attached file name.

When I try to open a file (Word, Excel, pdf) directly from Windows Mail without saving the file, the associated program opens then I get an error message saying that the file C:WindowsSystem32 could not be found.

View 4 Replies View RelatedSince I installed IE8, I have had a lot of small glitches. I have been able to clean them all up. But this one has been completely resistant to all my attempts to solve it. Here is the problem. Please READ this and do not jump to conclusions (such as that the problem is a program association problem -- which it is NOT) that are not based on this scenario, nor recommend to me doing something that I have already tried.
- I receive a Word document attached to an e-mail.
- I double click on the document in the ATTACH box of the received e-mail.
- Windows Mail opens a MAIL ATTACHMENT window asking if I want to open the document.
- Word 2007 opens.
- Word 2007 opens a MICROSOFT OFFICE WORD window that says "This file could not be found. (C:...Filename ...)" where Filename is the name of the .DOC file.
The same thing happens with PDF files: Adobe Acrobat Reader opens but then opens an ADOBE READER window that says "There was an error opening this document. This file cannot be found.".........
I have a problem that has recently developed in that I am unable to open file
attachments directly from WM. The only way I can open them is to save them to a folder, then open. I get error message saying file cannot be found. This happens with Word and Adobe files.

About two months ago I was sometimes prevented from opening photo attachments on some emails received from the same party and sometimes could open them. By this I mean, I would click on the paperclip where a list of photos would appear and I'd click on on photo and I'd get a message saying: "Windows cannot find file name (photo captions used by sender).jpg. Make sure your typed the name correctly and then try again." Well, of course I didn't type the file name; the sender did. I could click on the save attachments, and once saved to a folder I could open them from the folder. I forwarded the mail to others, and they report no problems in viewing the photos. I can also view the photos in the email itself, but it would be necessary to scan up and down and from left to right to view the whold photo and the caption would not appear.
View 6 Replies View RelatedWhenever I request a "File|Open" or "File|Save" from any application, the mini-Windows-Explorer dialog box that opens freezes and hangs the entire application. Happens with almost all applications. Not limited to just Microsoft programs. It does not matter if I like change the download folder or if I rt click always the same.
Back when it was under warranty Hp tells me to just restore to original settings. I hate to do that. But I am about to see that this might be the only fix for it. (But I am hoping not.) I think it started a long time ago when I was changing the USB ports I used for my external Hard drive and it changed drive letter. (maybe maybe not.. just seems I remember that being something that had happened when I first recall things hanging...) anyway I have all drives in the place I want them now and this issue still happens even if I dont have that external drive plugged in.
I had to reinstall Vista on my computer. Previously I used Outlook. I can't find the activation code so I want to try Windows Mail. I saved my Outlook email pst file. Is there a way to get Windows Mail to open that file.

I tried to open proxy switcher program but everytime i do, this error occurs. Previously, I was able to open the program several times until i uninstalled it. A few days later, I re-installed the program again and tried to use it. But was unable to. I tried to turn on DEP for all programs and services except those i select which includes proxy switcher program. It dont seem to work either.

I have been unzipping files in Vista with no problem, after the download of AVG 9 I am unable to open them.
When I right click on the file I do not get Extract all in the list.
I do not know which is the program that opens zip files within Vista and so I am unable to tell it which program to Open with.
I recently bought a new laptop with Vista Home Premium 32bit and everything on it works fine. Or well, not everything lol. I can't seem to get any burning software to work :s I tried installing Nero, but it gave me a message that "another program has just been updated, so you need to restart" (or something like that). I restart and it says it again. I tried installing CDBurnerXP and it installed fine, but when I start the program, nothing happens. Program don't open or anything. I then tried installing Starburn and it also installed just fine, but when I click on Data Burning Wizard, it shows up that it's trying to find CD/DVD burners, and it keeps searching forever (or well, I waited 30 minutes and then manually shutdown the program).

He currently has office 2007 trial on the laptop and I have downloaded word & excel viewer 2003 but most of them are still not opening. I have cured this in the past by doing a system restore going back a couple of days and things are good for 2 or 3 days then the same thing happens.

I m the administrator user. It used to open fine till yesterday. I can see all my emails in my Comcast & Hotmail accounts (the subject line) but when I try to open them I get an error message saying: 'There is an error opening this message & that's' it! I also noticed that the following options are greyed out (not available) Reply Reply All Forward. I'm not sure what's going on but it's been like this for 2 days & for a brief moment I was actually able to open & read an email today. I don't know what infomation about my PC to post but I'm sure whoever answers this will let me know.
