I have a problem that has recently developed in that I am unable to open file
attachments directly from WM. The only way I can open them is to save them to a folder, then open. I get error message saying file cannot be found. This happens with Word and Adobe files.
I have a persistant re occuring problem over the past couple of weeks.
Every few days i try to open various emails via the paperclip with attchments such as .jpg files and the window opens up " Windows cannot find"xxxxxxxx.jpg". Kake sure you have typed the name correctly and then try again."
I can only open them if i save the attachment this happens to all emails in my inbox.
I have cured this in the past by doing a system restore going back a couple of days and things are good for 2 or 3 days then the same thing happens.
how I can get a .wps file (MS Works) to open directly in Windows Mail? I have the file association configured and everything works perfectly if I first save the attachment to a folder then double-click it, but it is annoying to have to do this.
A friend had the same problem with .pps files (Power Point) which would not open directly in Windows Mail even though she had the Power Point Viewer installed and a proper file association. There was a a registry edit on the Microsoft site that fixed that nicely and I am hoping that someone knows of something similar for .wps files.
There are discussions on this general subject but no aparent resolution. About two months ago I was sometimes prevented from opening photo attachments on some emails received from the same party and sometimes could open them. By this I mean, I would click on the paperclip where a list of photos would appear and I'd click on on photo and I'd get a message saying: "Windows cannot find file name (photo captions used by sender).jpg. Make sure your typed the name correctly and then try again." Well, of course I didn't type the file name; the sender did. I could click on the save attachments, and once saved to a folder I could open them from the folder. I forwarded the mail to others, and they report no problems in viewing the photos. I can also view the photos in the email itself, but it would be necessary to scan up and down and from left to right to view the whold photo and the caption would not appear.
If I receive an e-mail with an attachment "DOC" my system can't open it. I'm running with Vista and even if someone else is using Vista I still can't open it. The system suggests Adobe or Internet Explorer neither of which works. I've tried to get my Microsoft Works Word to open it but I'm not having any luck. I don't have Microsoft Word, could that be my problem.
Since today I have been unable to open attachments (word, excel and jpg) except pdf files. I am able to copy and paste to a folder and open from the folder. I get a "The file can not be found" message. Had a big windows service pack yesterday, could that change any mail settings?
Unable to open .pps attachments since I installed IE8. Had no problem before this. Error message suggests turning off anti-virus but that didn't work. Am using Trend Micro anti-virus.
I set my partner up with a live.com.au email address and he has been unable to open the attachments. they are word / excel 97-2003 documents and spreadsheets and also some photos - jpg files. He currently has office 2007 trial on the laptop and I have downloaded word & excel viewer 2003 but most of them are still not opening. I had a couple open and then the next day when I tried to open them again to save them well they wouldn't.
I am experiencing problems opening a word attachment, when i click on the attachment to open it nothing happens, I have tried to save it and then open it and won't let me save it. I get the error message, Command failed to execute. I have plenty of memory free and am baffled as to what it could be.
Windows Mail (Vista) operated fine for over a year. Now I can't open attachments (photo .jpg, .txt., others). Error Message: "Command failed to execute". Tried all the suggestions above, no luck. What happened - how can I fix it?
New Toshiba laptop with Vista Home Premium 64 Bit. Windows Mail as email client; unable to view or open any attachments. Attachment is clearly visible in the Preview pane with a yellow paperclip, but I am unable to access this attachment in any way. I have AVG 8.5 installed as AV / Email Scanner (this program is known to work with other Vista 64-Bit OS'). IE8 was previsously installed, but after reading threads in this forum, I removed it and restarted the computer- but still have the same problem.
I am using a Acer Aspire laptop and using aol webmail for my email. I am not able to open or save attachments from my email. a window will open up and ask to save or open, but when I click open it will save as if it is going to open the attachment but never shows the attachment. when I "save as" an attachment it supposedly sends it to my computer, but I can never find the file. If I go to recent downloads and select the file that I downloaded it says it is missing the shortcut. I am up to date with Adobe Reader for pdf files.
I am unable to to open any office apps or pdf. I get the error 'file can not be found'. I never used to have this problem. The only thing I have changed is downloading Internet Explorer 8 - would this effect windows mail?
I've searched other questions on this, and here's a summary of my problem: I cannot seem to open attachments - and I'm sure I used to be able to. I have AVG Security. I have gone into Windows Mail and unticked the box in the Security section. I've tried sending to my other email accounts (yahoo) and still not been able to open attachments. I have Vista 32bit, Service Pack 1. I'm also getting an ongoing series of error codes on C:Windowssystem32avgrsstx.dll which all show 'bad image'. This file was modified on 16th June - but I'm not sure if its connected
Like many others based on previous posts, am unable to open or save attachments in windows mail. I think my problem is exactly the same as "anhlyss" had in the posts in January. I am hoping there is an easier fix than restoring factory setting. As suggested in other threads, I have ensured that I have unchecked the "do not allow attachments to be opened" box in options.
If I click on the attachment to open it, the little hourglass pointer comes up, and then goes back to the arrow, but nothing else happens. If I try to save the attachment, I get this message: "There was an error saving one or more of your attachments, please check your free disk space and try again"
When i installed IE 8 as part of a Windows update I now have a problem opening pictures and other attachments in Winmail. I note that everyone appears to be having a problem with this update. If it does not work, it needs to be removed from the updates for Windows Vista. Vista is enough of a pain without adding to it.
I am suddenly unable to open attachments to my email in Windows mail without saving them I only want to open and view them without saving them. This problem started inexplicably as I could previously open attachments without a problem.
Since migrating to Windows Mail a year ago on a new PC running Vista, I've been unable to open, or to save and open, email attachments received in .pdf or .jpg format. When I try to open .pdf attachments, I get an error message reading, "This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the Set Associations control panel." If I save a .pdf attachment in Adobe Reader and then try to open it, I get a message saying, "Adobe Reader could not open [file] because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged (for example, it was sent as an email attachment and wasn't correctly decoded)." I run Adobe Reader 8. Where do I look to find a solution to this problem? Is it related to the similar problem with JPEG's?
Recently started using vista on a new computer. When receiving email in vista mail I cannot open attachments with .pps file. It will open if I save it. The file extension is correct in the directory for vista to open it. I noticed a similar problem in the forum for .doc files but the fix for that did not seem to address the .pps files.
Recently I have been unable to open any attachments in windows mail which I could previously open. I have uninstalled IE8 and gone back to IE7. When I try to open an attachment now, Microsoft Office Picture Manager opens everytime. How do I fix this
Sometime last year, I began having trouble opening .pdf attachments in windows mail. I get the following message whenever I attempt to open the ..pdf file in windows mail:?This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the Set Associations control panel?.
I have been ?saving? the attachment to ?desktop? in order to open it, etc. I?ve already checked & have reset the Set Associations control panel?s .pdf to adobe. I have no problem opening ?Word? or any other document, just ..pdf-- & I ONLY have trouble with this in windows mail. The other two Users on my HP desktop are not having my user problem & I am growing weary of constantly having to save/open each document OUTSIDE of windows mail every time I receive .pdf attachments.
Whenever I try to open an attached (so far all Excel files) file to an incoming e-mail in Windows Mail, I am getting following Windows (Vista) message: "Windows cannot find 'file name w/ path'. Make sure you typed the name correctly and try again." Clearly this message is misleading since I have not typed any file name and/or its path. I just double-clicked the attached file name.
I just recently downloaded the new AVG 8.0 and since then I am unable to open email attachments on this computer. I use Windows Mail and hotmail, I am not able to accomplish this on either. I have 4 other PC's that have th exact same set up and no problems with them. Yes, I have gone through my settings and made sure the settings were set. I try to save the document and I get the error message failed to excute. If I diuble click to open the attachment, nothing, absolutely nothing happens. I have tried right clicking on the attachment and send to print....yet again...nothing, not even an error message. When your work depends on email, this sort of thing is extremely urgent. Anyone out there that actually has real advice to give? BTW I have tried disabling the aniti-virus program and still no go!
Back in Windows XP if you were not on a domain CTRL + ALT +DEL would open up Task Manager. In Windows Vista that key combination opens the secure desktop that allows you to do many more thing. To directly to Task Manager, hit CTRL + SHIFT + ESC.
I've used MS Outlook 2000. There was the "agenda"-f ile directly active when I opens Outlook. So you get directly a message of an appointment. Now I use Windows Mail. There you have to open the "agenda" first to get those reminders. How can I change that?
I always used outlook 2003 in Win XP Pro, then I got a new computer and I installed my registered version of Microsoft Office 2003 on my new computer running Vista Home Premium. Then I found out that I was not able to get attachments in Outlook from anybody that had me in the Cc as a recipient. It did work as long as I was the only reciepient though. So I thought so what, I will use vista.mail, because it allows me to use the newsgroups as well. It reminded me on Outlook Express. Now I miss using Outlook again, and I clicked on the icon, and right away Outlook freezes, and I can't get the cursor on to the Outlook desktop, it will stay all around my other desktop, but will not go to Outlook. Have they changed things in Outlook on my present OS so I will be able to look at attachments from my friends? and how do I get Outlook to respond again. Maybe I need to turn something off or on in either Outlook or Vista.
Please could somebody advise me as to whether there is a known problems with Vista Mail not sending attachments? An error message pops up yet it still sends the email but NOT the attachment.
I am not able to open any attachments at all. When I try to open a PDF file, I receive an error message "There was an error opening this document. This file can not be found. Yet, if I save the file attachment and open it through another means I can open the document. Cannot open jpeg files or Internet Explorer pages
