Have a problem with all of the USB ports on my Dell Laptop. It has been fine and the USB ports were all working. I have gone to use them and have tried to attach a memory stick, digital camera, and other devices and nothing is being recognised. The devices work on other computers. I dont really want to have to reinstall vista again as I will lose everything.
View 7 RepliesAfter installing 2 updates the USB ports on my docking station stopped working (they still work on the PC). The updates were: 1) Update for Microsoft Silverlight (KB960353) and 2) Cypress - Other hardware - HX2LP kit (3.03.0000.2). I have tried system restore but it failed - said it didn't restore. (this always happens - any idea why?) The Cypress update does not show up on Programs & Features, so I am unable to uninstall it.
View 9 Replies View RelatedEvery now and then I have a problem where Vista displays the message "USB device not recognized" when I plug my iPhone on the USB port. It happens with all the USB ports on the machine and rebooting the computer will fix the problem.
Does anyone has a suggestion as to what may cause the problem and how to fix it?
It there a service that I could try to restart instead of restarting the whole computer?
My system was fine for months, now all my USB ports turn off and on randomly, usually while I try to play a game. It doesn't matter what game. I have all current updates to Vista and all my mobo drivers are up to date. I have tried both rear and front ports in every combination I could think of. I have tried all USB BIOS settings. (There aren't many). I don't know what else to do.

I have a thumb drive which keeps stating its looking for a driver and then says it cannot find anything. I know it works usually. It will not recognise my printer. View 9 Replies View RelatedI am having serious issues with my laptop. A couple of months ago (around April) the hardrive of my HP Pavillion DV 9000 completely crashed and my father replaced it for me. But I'm having serious issues again:
-I can't burn c.d.s and I can't watch dvds
-I can't turn on my webcam
-The USB ports have completely stopped working.
I would like to backup my data before I get a new computer. I bought an external hard drive to take a picture of a computer as it is now, but, of course, it didn't work because none of my usb ports will not work. I don't know what to do. Is there another way to save all my data without using the usb ports of the cd drive?
I am trying to connect a device that has a serial port connector to a Vista computer. I got a converter to plug it into a USB port. When I plug it in I get a message that it recognizes the device(converter) and has installed the drivers. When I try to use the hardware that uses the serial port I get a message that it cannot find a com port. I have tried to manually connect it to every com port the hardware's software offers, but no luck. How can I make this thing find a com port?
View 7 Replies View RelatedWhen I attach the palm, I have to always use the back port on the left side. When I attach the mouse, I have to attach to the right side. When I attach an external HDD I can only attach to the front left port or right port and unplug the mouse. I have uninstalled the mouse and usb drivers and rebooted many times. Attached you will see pics of the device manager with "show hidden devices" checked. My question is: Is there an issue with the hardware itself or is there a parameter I'm missing to control all the usb's equally?

However, when I plug my phone via USB, my laptop charges my phone, but doesn't read it. I've tried everything.. updating the bios, delete infcache.1, I tried soldering the usb ports again, I've tried all of that. I've searched the web and I can't find any solutions.. I'm running Windows Vista Home Premium on a Toshiba Satellite A135-S2376.

My XP machine crashed not long ago and I bought a Vista computer, but it does not have a serial port available. I have a serial to USB cable adapter, but I cannot get my cash drawer to open using it. View 4 Replies View RelatedI've recently bought a HP8710w and i've installed Vista Business 64bit on it. After a while for some reason the USB ports don't work when I reboot. In the Device manager section, the usb's have the yellow exclemation marks. The only way i can get them to work is to disable all and then enable them. It's quite annoying to have to disable and enable the 6 usb ports everytime i reboot. Any solution to this?
View 5 Replies View RelatedAfter a short time on the internet my browser stops. I have tried IE 7 & 8 Firefox with no result. I CAN only access https sites and any other with a different port (example.com:81). I have checked for malware and even reloaded Vista. I have replaced the MS firewall with ZA Pro and still no difference. I have unchecked IPV6 as well. The only way round this is to reboot and that seems to take an age. The pc will reboot in seconds normally, that’s when you haven’t been on the internet.

I have downloaded a driver for the Serial to USB converter, and my Vista Enterprise OS seems happy with it. However, the hardware only allows communication with COM ports 1 to 4, and as far as I can judge my USB ports are 8, 9 and 10. Can I renumber these ports to make communication possible, or is there another way of doing this?

I am still able to install my Motorola V3r driver and charge my phone with the usb ports, but it cannot recognize any flash drives.

I'm running Microsoft Office Groove and it is setup under Vista (Business edition) Firewall Exceptions as a Program, not a Port. To clarify, when you look at the properties of the Groove (Program) Exception, it does not mention anything about ports. I know I can add an exception specifically for Port 2492 (Groove's primary communication port), but would that be redundant if the Program Exception for Groove already opens up that specific Port.

-Remove Upper/lower filters (Lower filters were missing, could this be the problem?)
-Switching the sata ports from were the device was connected.
-Upgrading the firmware of the dvd player
-Upgrading the Bios
-Asked here
-Some stupid things.
Windows and the bios do see this drive and give it the correct name. I've already tried this with an other drive and she had this problem to.
Running Vista on an HP...When I get the pop up to compact the mail I click OK and it gets about 3 quarters of the way thru and I get the message Windows Mail has stopped working and Windows is searching for an answer. The answer was DEP (Data Execution Protection)was shutting it down to protect my computer..What's the problem??? Norton internet Security up to date and nothing found with complete system scan..Vista up to date as well.

I tried using vista glazz to patch it back. I tried restarting multiple times. I tried switching to classic theme and back. Nothing works. I have Vista Ultimate 64. Here's a screenshot.

When I open the Start Menu I now see "Data (E" on the button that used to read "Documents." I moved the folder to E: by right-clicking on the default "Documents" label, entering Properties/Location and indicating that I wanted the new location to be E: . The system did this, placing the Documents folder under E:.
This has not caused any problem until I tried to open Windows Fax & Scan today and I received a dialog window reading: "Windows Fax and Scan cannot run as it cannot access your documents folder. Please ensure that Windows Fax and Scan can access that folder." That's all very logical, but it doesn't tell me how to do this. How can I point Fax and Scan to the new location of my Documents folder?
Like lots of other people last week I suddenly couldn't send mail using Windows Mail and Vista Premium. Can delete unsent messages from Outbox ok and have today downloaded and run Norton Uninstall. At about the time email out stopped a Norton panel aaying I was about to load updates appeared which I cancelled immediately, (I originally used Norton 4 months ago but uninstalled and went to AVG), Norton appeared in Programs and would not uninstall but a System Recovery to the day before removed it from program list.

my windows contacts used to wrok, like i had the option of adding contacts n all.. now there is just nothing, cant add contacts or antyhing. I can still see the contacts i added before, and when i double click it i can edit te info, but thats it. Not even the contact info comes up on the right side of the folder like it used to when u jus single click the contact. I duno if it was something do with i had hidden folders shown for a while (which i turned back off) but when i did hav it on.. some weird live messenger contact things were in the folder also, which was my email as the folder, and all these messenger files inside.

When I open Windows mail, the column on the left which normally shows all mail box files doesn't appear. If I click on "dossiers local" which is the main list of all files in Windows mail, then the full list of files comes up on the right hand side. I then have to click one by one on each title for it to be transferred to the left hand side (sorry for the non-computer language). I have looked at the French forum but can't find a solution. I amalso trying to find out what OS I'm using (64 bit or 32 bit) so I can download an update which might fix the problem Can anyone assist. Plus which, certain emails have "This message can't be sent" "a problem has been encountered". I'm completely stuck on what to do!
