USB Ports not working on Vista 32Bit. I have a dell inspirion 6400 laptop. All the USB ports will not recognise any external media. I have a thumb drive which keeps stating its looking for a driver and then says it cannot find anything. I know it works usually. It will not recognise my printer. I have tried deleting INFCACHE1 and also checking that there are no hung plug and play devices.
View 9 RepliesEvery now and then I have a problem where Vista displays the message "USB device not recognized" when I plug my iPhone on the USB port. It happens with all the USB ports on the machine and rebooting the computer will fix the problem.
Does anyone has a suggestion as to what may cause the problem and how to fix it?
It there a service that I could try to restart instead of restarting the whole computer?
My system was fine for months, now all my USB ports turn off and on randomly, usually while I try to play a game. It doesn't matter what game. I have all current updates to Vista and all my mobo drivers are up to date. I have tried both rear and front ports in every combination I could think of. I have tried all USB BIOS settings. (There aren't many). I don't know what else to do.

I have gone to use them and have tried to attach a memory stick, digital camera, and other devices and nothing is being recognised. The devices work on other computers. View 7 Replies View RelatedI am having serious issues with my laptop. A couple of months ago (around April) the hardrive of my HP Pavillion DV 9000 completely crashed and my father replaced it for me. But I'm having serious issues again:
-I can't burn c.d.s and I can't watch dvds
-I can't turn on my webcam
-The USB ports have completely stopped working.
I would like to backup my data before I get a new computer. I bought an external hard drive to take a picture of a computer as it is now, but, of course, it didn't work because none of my usb ports will not work. I don't know what to do. Is there another way to save all my data without using the usb ports of the cd drive?
After installing 2 updates the USB ports on my docking station stopped working (they still work on the PC). The updates were: 1) Update for Microsoft Silverlight (KB960353) and 2) Cypress - Other hardware - HX2LP kit (3.03.0000.2). I have tried system restore but it failed - said it didn't restore. (this always happens - any idea why?) The Cypress update does not show up on Programs & Features, so I am unable to uninstall it.

When I plug it in I get a message that it recognizes the device(converter) and has installed the drivers. When I try to use the hardware that uses the serial port I get a message that it cannot find a com port. I have tried to manually connect it to every com port the hardware's software offers, but no luck. How can I make this thing find a com port?

View 8 Replies View RelatedI have a WD 3,5 Hard drive and I bought I case so I could make it external. However, when I connect it to my laptop, running on Vista Home Premium x64 SP2 it does not work. The drive is seen by Vista (it shows up in the Disk Management section in Computer Management) but it does not show up in My Computer. In Disk Management it appears Disk 1, Dynamic, Invalid, with a red downwards arrow. As I have all my info there a soluyion that requires a format is not an option.

Sometimes starting a video it won't show the footage cause media player is already running in the background also sometimes when we quit the program it keeps on playing the sound. Only way to pass the problems is killing media player in the taskmanager. It's very annoying. Anyway to fix this?

After hooking it up, I noticed my new PC in my home office (Vista Ultimate 64bit) had an installer pop up on the screen and walked me thru installing Media Center, etc, etc - so that I can now view pics, tunes, and movies that are on my PC, right on my 50" plasma in the threater room....I was psyched. waayy cool, right? Fast forward to a couple days ago. I came down to the theatre room to find my 8yr old daughter and 10 year old friend watching "Aliens" streaming thru my xbox from my PC that they were pulling thru over Media Center....Totally Unsuitable !!
I spent the remainder of that evening trying to move my adult content to another folder outside My Documents, xbox still found it. I then made sure the folder was not shared, and had no access for anyone but me (security tab), xbox still found it. I then tried moving the content to an ancillary sata HD inside the box and followed all the steps, my xbox still found it. I moved it then to an external USB drive and xbox still found it....Does anyone have any idea how I can specifically determine EXACTLY which folders on my PC can be accessed by Extender/MediaCenter/Xbox? Or conversley, can anyone tell me how I can specifically protect some folders from ever being accessed by Extender/MediaCenter/Xbox? This is a cool app, I didn't even know it existed until after I bought my xbox360 - but was immediatly wayyy sold on it...But I simply must be able to control the content that my kids have access to.

My Vista x64 installation works rock solid, and I couldn't be happier, but where, oh where, is my Media Center?? I don't remember uninstalling it, but I'm not aware of a way to even do that!??? Is there any way to restore it, or maybe to download it from somewhere and re-install just that. I don't want to re-install Vista from my DVD, I really don't. It's humming a lot just great. Maybe I acidentally "hid it". I know my thoughts sounds funny, or crazy even. I just can't explain it to myself how a core component of Vista Ultimate can disappear like that.

I tried downloading media player for vista but it won't install saying there is already a Newer (?) version on the computer. I can't track down the correct files at the MS site to reinstall, and I'd rather not use System Restore since I'm not sure how far back to go or how many things would be undone.
i open windows media player and putsomething to play, a small windows pops up and says that windows mediaplayer has stopped working and it says its looking for a solution. After a while it says " a problem caused this program to stop working correctly, Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available." then it closes the program with my consent. This never happened to me on my xp pc which had WMP 11. This is happening on my new vista pc that's just a few days out of the box and i even have full norton anti-virus protection. So is there any way to fix this problem or do i have to use some other program?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have an HP m9000t desktop that is running on vista home premium service pack 1. Ever since I got this PC my TV tuner has not been working properly. I have a ATSC-NTSC TV tuner with PVR, FM tuner installed. So basically this is my issue. I purchased a 4 prong splitter to split my cable input to my pc and cable box. My provider is time warner cable. After setting up my TV Signal in Windows Media Center it seems to be setup correctly until I try to watch live TV. The channels are all messed up. It seems like I only have about 20 channels, some are local channels and some are cable channels but nothing matches correctly.
I also tried connecting my cable out from my cable box directly into my PC. This works better than a direct connection from the splitter but it only shows what I am watching on my cable box, so if i change the channel on my cable box it changes on my pc. And if I change the cannel on my PC everything is scrambled, so it has to be on chan 3. Can this just be an issue with my provider? Do I need a "setup box"? If so how much are they and will it definiely solve my issue?
When I attach the palm, I have to always use the back port on the left side. When I attach the mouse, I have to attach to the right side. When I attach an external HDD I can only attach to the front left port or right port and unplug the mouse. I have uninstalled the mouse and usb drivers and rebooted many times. Attached you will see pics of the device manager with "show hidden devices" checked. My question is: Is there an issue with the hardware itself or is there a parameter I'm missing to control all the usb's equally?
