Windows Media Center / TV Tuner Not Working

I have an HP m9000t desktop that is running on vista home premium service pack 1. Ever since I got this PC my TV tuner has not been working properly. I have a ATSC-NTSC TV tuner with PVR, FM tuner installed. So basically this is my issue. I purchased a 4 prong splitter to split my cable input to my pc and cable box. My provider is time warner cable. After setting up my TV Signal in Windows Media Center it seems to be setup correctly until I try to watch live TV. The channels are all messed up. It seems like I only have about 20 channels, some are local channels and some are cable channels but nothing matches correctly.
I also tried connecting my cable out from my cable box directly into my PC. This works better than a direct connection from the splitter but it only shows what I am watching on my cable box, so if i change the channel on my cable box it changes on my pc. And if I change the cannel on my PC everything is scrambled, so it has to be on chan 3. Can this just be an issue with my provider? Do I need a "setup box"? If so how much are they and will it definiely solve my issue?

I have a problem with a TV Tuner and Media Center. (My specs are detailed in my profile.) I have an Asus My Cinema PE9400 Combo card that has both analog and HD hardware encoders. OTA HD works great through Media Center, but analog has a terrible picture and stutters quite badly. This even happens when I record (without watching) and playback later. As a result of my troubleshooting, I have found that the issue isn't the card, but Media Center itself.
I installed TotalMedia (provided with the Asus tuner card) and all forms of broadcast work great. HD OTA, Analog OTA and DirecTV s-video input all have a flawless picture and no stuttering. Is there anyone that can help? I like Media Center and would like to continue using it, but the stuttering is just not worth it. Are there any utilities I can run to find out where the conflict is? Why does MC have the problem, but not other apps?

I recently got a Dell computer running Vista. I have a Hauppauge 1250 internal tuner card installed and digital signal running through coax from a spliter into my PC. I know that I am getting a signal because when I run WinTV (the application that comes with the Hauppauge tuner) I am able to watch all the digital channels. However, when I try to watch live tv on the media center, all I get is static. I tried consulting with customer support at Hauppauge up.

I get the following error message when I try to open windows media center: "Windows Media Center has stopped working'' and I can not open it. I have Windows Vista Home Premium. I tried doing system restore and it doesn't help. I am able to open Windows Media Player though, and can play DVD's and CD's through there, but can not open media center, to access the tv features.

Windows Media Center worked before, but a few weeks ago after viewing a recorded TV (maybe a hour or so) show it would crash. Now when it opens it crash right away.

I bought an xbox360 about a month ago. After hooking it up, I noticed my new PC in my home office (Vista Ultimate 64bit) had an installer pop up on the screen and walked me thru installing Media Center, etc, etc - so that I can now view pics, tunes, and movies that are on my PC, right on my 50" plasma in the threater room....I was psyched. waayy cool, right? Fast forward to a couple days ago. I came down to the theatre room to find my 8yr old daughter and 10 year old friend watching "Aliens" streaming thru my xbox from my PC that they were pulling thru over Media Center....Totally Unsuitable !!
I spent the remainder of that evening trying to move my adult content to another folder outside My Documents, xbox still found it. I then made sure the folder was not shared, and had no access for anyone but me (security tab), xbox still found it. I then tried moving the content to an ancillary sata HD inside the box and followed all the steps, my xbox still found it. I moved it then to an external USB drive and xbox still found it....Does anyone have any idea how I can specifically determine EXACTLY which folders on my PC can be accessed by Extender/MediaCenter/Xbox? Or conversley, can anyone tell me how I can specifically protect some folders from ever being accessed by Extender/MediaCenter/Xbox? This is a cool app, I didn't even know it existed until after I bought my xbox360 - but was immediatly wayyy sold on it...But I simply must be able to control the content that my kids have access to.

So I look for Media Center to play my NBC Nightly News, and all of a sudden, it's not there anymore. My Vista x64 installation works rock solid, and I couldn't be happier, but where, oh where, is my Media Center?? I don't remember uninstalling it, but I'm not aware of a way to even do that!??? Is there any way to restore it, or maybe to download it from somewhere and re-install just that. I don't want to re-install Vista from my DVD, I really don't. It's humming a lot just great. Maybe I acidentally "hid it". I know my thoughts sounds funny, or crazy even. I just can't explain it to myself how a core component of Vista Ultimate can disappear like that.

Media center keeps popping up, I have not been able to find a way to disable it, so that I can use the program only when I want. It is very tiresome to keep have it. open when ever I pop a cd or dvd in to my drive. I would like some control over which program I use to view/listen to the media I have, and not have one pop up automatically.

I'm running Windows Vista Home Premium x64. I have a Q6600 at stock speeds, as well as an EVGA 8800GT. Whenever I try to start up Windows Media Center, an error pops up saying "Media Center Has Stopped Working" the usual error pop up when a program crashes. Nothing pops up, just that error message. I've tried running ehshell.exe with no luck

Recently, my Windows media Center has completely disappeared from my computer. It's not in the start menu, or any of my folders. I can't even find it when I search. The only trace of it I've found was a few .exe files in the system 32 folder. The only way I can get windows media center to work is to open up all those files at once.

I built my father an HTPC running WMC Vista. I set it up here in the U.S. before he moved to St. Martin (a Dutch island in the Caribbean) - and everything was working fine. He was told to select "Netherlands/Antilles" as the location when running the TV Setup wizard, which he did, but then it insists on a zip. Problem... the island has no zip codes. How does WMC know what service he has since it doesn't know where he's at?

whenever I play halo 2 and I'm done,I exit and after I exit windows media center opens. but it bugs me because it takes about 2 minuets after I exit so the prosesers are maxed at 100% as it tries to start up. now this problem started about 2-3 days after it was installed. I don't want to uninstall media center it because I use media center for movies and media player for music.

I am using windows vista ultimate and I get a message error on my xbox 360. The Xbox 360 has experienced a failure and was disconnected from the media center based PC. Would you like to reconnect? Vista Ultimate is installed on my laptop for work and I wanted to see how this works but never got it connected. I was able to determine that the cause was the Novell Client for Vista version 1.x, it seems all versions cause this problem. Now I need the client for work and have already filled a bug report with Novell but have not been able to see were to report a bug with MS. I assume it is a Novell issue but I have seen MS KB fixes for novell so wanted to report it to both sides.This never worked with or without sp1 for vista.

I've had Vista Home Premium installed on my desktop PC for over a year now, but I never used Windows Media Center until recently and noticed this problem when I purchased a Media Center Extender. After choosing the folders (music, video and image) that I wanted in my WMC library (on BOTH my desktop PC AND Media Center Extender), only my image files do not appear in the libraries. Under "Picture Library" (again, on both units), all folders and sub-folders which I selected are shown but contain no "items". The files which I desire to view are .jpg, .jpeg, .gif, and .bmp formats and I have converted some back and forth between formats to see if that changed anything. Can anyone steer me in the right direction on this?

why this is running all the time on my Vista Enterprise Core to Duo machine at 65% of CPU according to Windows Task Manager? I do not even have Windows Media Center installed on this machine or at least I cannot see where I can run it. To the best of my knowledge it is not part of Vista Enterprise OS?

I installed Vista Ultimate over a year ago. This is the first time I have tried to use windows media center. IT IS NOT THERE! Not presant in "all programs" Yes I have made sure Ultimate is correctly identified. (right-click my computer and look under properties) What can I do next to get Media Center installed?? (just installed a usb tv tuner and I would like to use it)

I am having a lot trouble getting the right Lafayette Indiana Zip 47904 Comcast TV guide to install in my Windows Media Center. No matter what zip code i use in the entire country, the Lafayette Kentucky Comcast TV guide is always an option except Lafayette Indiana. I have just reinstalled my Operating System from Windows Vista Ultimate 64 bit to the Windows Vista Ultimate 32 bit.
I never had an ounce of trouble while using the 64 bit OS and getting the right local Comcast TV guide listing for windows Media center. Could i have the wrong windows Media center updates?..........

I bought a laptop last Christmas and it had various pre-installed stuff that I did not want and uninstalled them. A few weeks later and I have been trying use the windows media center remote to watch tv on my Toshiba Qosimio G40.
So far I have'nt found it and I think I may of unintentionally uninstalled it. I have been to Microsoft web page and have been looking to try and download the package or drivers for Windows Media Center. Unfortunately I have not found it on their web site. I could just reinstalled the recovery disc that I came with the laptop but that would be inconvienient as I have a load of sofware and files I would have to reinstall ect after the recovery. Does any one know how I can get Windows Media Center back on my laptop without having to use the recovery cd? Is there somewhere where I can download the package again?

I am attempting to add my music files to my Windows Media Center, anyone know how long this normally takes? After selecting my folder it pops up on the bottom right that it is adding media, it says it is searching for files and it just keeps doing that. It has been running for a few hours now and is still going. SHould it take this long? I have about 15 cd's worth of media in the folder.

i had to reinstall vista home premium. now my media center will not go to channel 73. this is the channel wms needs to be on in order to recieve the signal. i think when i first installed vista.i just changed to channel 73. i have already been thru tuner setup 20 or more times.

Running Vistax64, Sp1, clean install on a new home built machine. When I launch the media center wizard, when it gets to the place where it sets out to test the speakers, it stops working and 'has to close.' I have uninstalled Nero 7, my anti-virus software, flv player as well as the other speaker utility that came with the motherboard (SoundMax BlackHawk) and run the 'scannow utility' but so far nothing has worked. My HP computer came with XP and an FM tuner. I was able to use media center to listen to over-the-air local FM stations with a "T" shaped antenna connected to the computer's FM connector. I have since upgraded to Vista Home Premium and more recently to Windows 7 Home Premium. I have been unable to configure Windows Media Center with either of these OSs to recognize the FM tuner. The 'Device Drivers' window shows I have the latest version of a "Hauppauge winTV HVR-1800(Model 78xxx, Combo ATSC/QAM)" sound driver. Am I doing something wrong? Or missing something? Is there ANY other program (or driver) that will connect to this tuner?

It seems as though I have lost my media center icon or for that matter I can???t find the application on any of my hard drives either, I can see that it has been licensed to me on the media center home page but can not find it anywhere on my computer. Any ideas? I am using Windows Vista ultimate with SP1 installed.

Windows Media Center will stop playing recorded tv. It says it is searching for a solution, and then restarts media center. This seems to happen over and over. I've just installed Windows Vista (32bit) Ultimate on a second machine in my home network, and the content for on-line services is very different on them both. The regional settings for both of these machines are the same (Netherlands), but the content is very different. How can I add/change the on-line regional content for media center? I've already looked into adding .mcl files into the AppData directory, but this isn't the solution that I'm looking for.

Messing around with Vista trying to figure out some of the features available to me, I played a bit with Media Center. A number of activities comes up with an error message: Invalid Application Unable to launch "" In particular, this happens for Internet TV and Online Media Learn How. A few others I don't recall also does this. Any ideas? Doesn't seem to have much in the way of settings or options that I can or should tweak. Perhaps if there was a way to uninstall and reinstall it, but I suspect it is tightly integrated with the OS. I searched the MS support, but came up empty. Since I see that Media Center is taking an even bigger role in Windows 7, I'd like to figure this out.

I was thinking about creating a user that only has access to the Media Center. First thing i did it, configure the media center to boot with windows!
Now I need to:
1- know how configure him to open in the "Only Media Mode".
2- do something to block everything, but some games and 3 sites! gmail, yahoo and hattrick.com
To make it clear, i want to configure a user that may only use the media center, some games and access does 3 sites and nothing else!
