View 9 RepliesSometime my system sounds work and most of the time they don't. My Device Manager doesn't show any problems. When I right click on the sound icon in the System Tray and click on Sounds, then try the sounds, most of the time they don't work. I have all the latest digitally signed drivers (HP Pavilion laptop). When I go straight to the Sounds folder and try the sounds, they don't work. I don't even know which app is supposed to play these sounds (it might help if I knew in order to solve the problem). I have no viruses or malware in my system. Not sure - but it seems like the system sounds stop working sometime while the system is booted and has been running for a while. Please could someone offer some other things to check or try? What app is supposed to run these sounds? Are there any other sites that might be able to help (or other Newsgroups)? I depend heavily on these sounds working properly so thi sissue is important to me to solve. If I've left out any relative detail,
View 4 Replies View Relatedthe windows sounds like the startup sound and the asterisks etc are not loud enough even at the max volume. The music and video etc. are loud and fine.but the general windows sounds are too low in volume even at max volume.and it recognizes it too because when i set the volume to max in the corner to next to the clock, the green bar fills only 20% or so when it beeps.
View 6 Replies View RelatedWhen I right click on the sound icon in the system tray, it brings up the sounds associated with Windows (Vista Home Premium) actions. However, when I click on the Play icon, the sounds don't play. WAV files on my computer are associated with the Windows Media Player (although I've tried the other available sound players too and the same thing happens - no sound. My sound card seems to work fine and I have the latest driver. If I go directly to Windows>Media and play the sounds, they PLAY!!! I've set all WAV files to play with Windows Media Player. Sometimes the Windows logo, when booting up, plays a sound - but most of the time it doesn't.
View 5 Replies View RelatedToday I installed a program that will let you record any sound coming from your speakers. It's a paid program and it's a reputable program but I noticed something after the reboot. Im not sure it's related or not. When I even move my cursor over a icon on my desktop it gives that windows sounds, like a critical beep. When I click on a topic here in the newsgroup to read, same thing. Clicking on contrl panel incons or any incons up there, same noise.

I just installed a pctv card in the slot my sound occupied. I have tv and no sound. I have updated realtec drivers, the device manager says it's working properly, when I open the audio manager it says its sending sound to the speakers.

Peculiar sounds annoy me so I have set 'Sounds' to virtually nil using Control Panel/Sounds and disabling all the Windows boings and beeps and saved the setting as "My own".
However, I keep getting the odd boing, burp and beep, such as when closing a programme after pasting something and closing E7.
Is there somewhere else I should look to stop these irritants?
I have extraneous sounds left over from viewing a Web page video. I have

View 5 Replies View RelatedMy mom changed her theme the other day and now there are no sounds for new messaged received, opening and closing windows, logging in or out, emptying recycle bin...etc. I've tried going into sounds and picking new ones, old ones and nothing works. In sounds where you can "test" a certain sound, nothing plays. It's not the speakers cause music plays just fine. I loaded all the windows media files into windows media player and they work so it's not that. How do I get them to play again?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI just installed the new update for the Ultimate Extra Sounds Schemes. When I have one of these new schemes selected as my sounds, when I shut down or reboot my pc, I see a brief black screen with red text and something about explorer.exe not respoding or something. It happens with either of these new sound schemes Glass, or Pearl. When I put if back to default, problem goes away. Nice extra MSFT!
View 9 Replies View Related3 days ago my computer started making very quiet beeping sounds, it happens mostly when I use Mozilla Firefox and Windows Explorer. My impression is that the sound is coming from the motherboard. When I restarted in safe mode the sound disappeared,
so after a very long elimination process I discovered that when I change control panel-power options-processor power management settings the frequency of beeping changes as well. Until now I was using balanced settings (min processor state 5% and max processor state 100%), if I choose high performance (min and max processor state are both 100%) the beeping becomes very frequent almost continuous, and if I choose power saver settings (min processor state 5% and max processor state 50%) I don't notice the beeping anymore but of course I don't want to keep using only 50% of my processor. I am using a desktop computer, not a laptop. Except for the annoying sound the computer works normally. I have Windows Vista Ultimate 32-bit SP1.
I have been using Office 2007 for about a year, and this morning something changed. Historically, when I would designate a mail item for permanent deletion (by hitting shift and delete at the same time), a dialog box would pop up asking me if I was sure that I wanted that item to be permanently deleted. When the dialog box appeared, a sound was made simultaneously. (I believe that if I clicked yes to the question in the dialog box, another sound was made.) Today, for no apparent reason, there are no sounds made. I opened Control Panel and selected "sounds" to see if Outlook was among the programs listed where certain actions within a program are accentuated with sounds, but i see that Outlook is not listed. I restored the Sounds from "modified default" to "Windows Default" and re-started Outlook, but the sound was not restored. Does anyone know how to restore my sounds?
View 8 Replies View RelatedSo I am goofy and want my Vista Ultimate to play my own wav files instead of the ones it came with. but they simply don't play at all. I have done everything I know how to get this to work. I go to control panel sounds and the sound tab and have put the .wav files i want to use into the C:/Windows/Media folder and am able to select them through the sound menu... but the test option plays nothing for my wavs and it doesnt do anything when the system is supposed to make said sound...
I even checked all the properties to make sure they were the same the only differance I can see is that the sound files that work are owned by the system and the ones that dont are owned by administraitor. I do know how to change the ownership of files through the properties menu but even in Administraitor mode there is no option for system... I do not however think that it is the cause... is it that vista just doesnt want you using your own sound files?
Installed Service Pack 1 for Vista regular edition and now when I play Halo all the sounds have reverb on them. How do I get rid of this?
View 7 Replies View RelatedThis is about my fifth build, and it went great: loaded up the OS and updated all drivers (using only 2 GB RAM), started (cautiously) loading up all my software, taking care to only load software that had 64 bit driver support, as far as I could tell. I am a graphic designer and creative director, so I use Adobe CS3 and Office and game a little. Use Skype very frequently. First off, SoundBlaster had no 64 bit support (I have never had much confident in Creative), so I simply took out the card and thought I might wait or scratch it.
More importantly, the system freezes. Hangs. Stalls, what-have-you. Just stops and needs a hard reboot. Any sounds playing at the time would stutter like a broken cd. I tried many things and am not overclocking. Eventually, needing to get work done, I simply figured there wasn't enough 64 bit driver support and yesterday fresh installed the 32 bit Vista using the alternate DVD that came in the package. Unfortunately, the system is behaving in exactly the same way.
i have a toshiba m100 with windows vista home basic, i recently updated my bios and then my windows sound scheme doesn't play anymore even if the "play sound scheme on startup" is enabled. no startup sounds, no internet explorer sound i don't hear audio from Internet itunes etc but i can play music files using media player or other media players. i already installed audio driver updates and still nothing happens.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm running Windows Vista Ultimate 32-bit version. I moved my Documents folder from the C: drive to my E: Data drive some time ago. When I open the Start Menu I now see "Data (E" on the button that used to read "Documents." I moved the folder to E: by right-clicking on the default "Documents" label, entering Properties/Location and indicating that I wanted the new location to be E: . The system did this, placing the Documents folder under E:.
This has not caused any problem until I tried to open Windows Fax & Scan today and I received a dialog window reading: "Windows Fax and Scan cannot run as it cannot access your documents folder. Please ensure that Windows Fax and Scan can access that folder." That's all very logical, but it doesn't tell me how to do this. How can I point Fax and Scan to the new location of my Documents folder?
Like lots of other people last week I suddenly couldn't send mail using Windows Mail and Vista Premium. Can delete unsent messages from Outbox ok and have today downloaded and run Norton Uninstall. At about the time email out stopped a Norton panel aaying I was about to load updates appeared which I cancelled immediately, (I originally used Norton 4 months ago but uninstalled and went to AVG), Norton appeared in Programs and would not uninstall but a System Recovery to the day before removed it from program list.
