No Window, And Sounds For New Message

Mar 23, 2008

My mom changed her theme the other day and now there are no sounds for new messaged received, opening and closing windows, logging in or out, emptying recycle bin...etc. I've tried going into sounds and picking new ones, old ones and nothing works. In sounds where you can "test" a certain sound, nothing plays. It's not the speakers cause music plays just fine. I loaded all the windows media files into windows media player and they work so it's not that. How do I get them to play again?

Window Mai: Colour Code Message Altered Them

Sep 21, 2009

I have been using my Windows Mail for a little while now and am pretty much there in terms of understanding it. However, at work I use Outlook Express and there are a few things that I like from it that I am unsure whether Windows Mail has or if I am just not finding them. The main thing is:

I colour code messages (categorise them) by descriptions I have altered them to, for example, if I select pink, this is known as 'awaiting others actions' and if I select blue this is 'Needs further attention by me' or purple meaning 'completed'. Does Windows Mail have this option anywhere at all so that I can colour my inbox messages until I have dealt with them all fully. I would be greatful for any advice about this.

New Message Window Opens Windows Mail

Jul 29, 2009

I had no issues with Windows Mail as my default client and a new message window would open when I clicked mailto links. Earlier today I clicked a mailto for the first time in a week or so, and it tried to open Microsoft Outlook 2003, which is also installed on my machine, but not the default mail handler. Going into the Mozilla Firefox options, I found that for some reason it was defaulting to Outlook. I changed the setting to Windows Mail, but now instead of opening the new message window, it just opens Windows Mail.

I have tv and no sound. I have updated realtec drivers, the device manager says it's working properly, when I open the audio manager it says its sending sound to the speakers.

Unwanted Sounds

Jan 10, 2010

Windows Vista Home Premium. IE7. Office 2007

Peculiar sounds annoy me so I have set 'Sounds' to virtually nil using Control Panel/Sounds and disabling all the Windows boings and beeps and saved the setting as "My own".

However, I keep getting the odd boing, burp and beep, such as when closing a programme after pasting something and closing E7.

Is there somewhere else I should look to stop these irritants?

Windows Sounds Don't Play

Sep 21, 2009

When I right click on the sound icon in the system tray, it brings up the sounds associated with Windows (Vista Home Premium) actions. However, when I click on the Play icon, the sounds don't play. WAV files on my computer are associated with the Windows Media Player (although I've tried the other available sound players too and the same thing happens - no sound. My sound card seems to work fine and I have the latest driver. If I go directly to Windows>Media and play the sounds, they PLAY!!! I've set all WAV files to play with Windows Media Player. Sometimes the Windows logo, when booting up, plays a sound - but most of the time it doesn't.

Can't System Sounds Working

Nov 6, 2009

Sometime my system sounds work and most of the time they don't. My Device Manager doesn't show any problems. When I right click on the sound icon in the System Tray and click on Sounds, then try the sounds, most of the time they don't work. I have all the latest digitally signed drivers (HP Pavilion laptop). When I go straight to the Sounds folder and try the sounds, they don't work. I don't even know which app is supposed to play these sounds (it might help if I knew in order to solve the problem). I have no viruses or malware in my system. Not sure - but it seems like the system sounds stop working sometime while the system is booted and has been running for a while. Please could someone offer some other things to check or try? What app is supposed to run these sounds? Are there any other sites that might be able to help (or other Newsgroups)? I depend heavily on these sounds working properly so thi sissue is important to me to solve. If I've left out any relative detail,

It happens with either of these new sound schemes Glass, or Pearl. When I put if back to default, problem goes away. Nice extra MSFT!

Computer Making Beeping Sounds

Apr 15, 2009

3 days ago my computer started making very quiet beeping sounds, it happens mostly when I use Mozilla Firefox and Windows Explorer. My impression is that the sound is coming from the motherboard. When I restarted in safe mode the sound disappeared,

so after a very long elimination process I discovered that when I change control panel-power options-processor power management settings the frequency of beeping changes as well. Until now I was using balanced settings (min processor state 5% and max processor state 100%), if I choose high performance (min and max processor state are both 100%) the beeping becomes very frequent almost continuous, and if I choose power saver settings (min processor state 5% and max processor state 50%) I don't notice the beeping anymore but of course I don't want to keep using only 50% of my processor. I am using a desktop computer, not a laptop. Except for the annoying sound the computer works normally. I have Windows Vista Ultimate 32-bit SP1.

Lost The Sounds Within Microsoft Outlook

Jul 1, 2008

I have been using Office 2007 for about a year, and this morning something changed. Historically, when I would designate a mail item for permanent deletion (by hitting shift and delete at the same time), a dialog box would pop up asking me if I was sure that I wanted that item to be permanently deleted. When the dialog box appeared, a sound was made simultaneously. (I believe that if I clicked yes to the question in the dialog box, another sound was made.) Today, for no apparent reason, there are no sounds made. I opened Control Panel and selected "sounds" to see if Outlook was among the programs listed where certain actions within a program are accentuated with sounds, but i see that Outlook is not listed. I restored the Sounds from "modified default" to "Windows Default" and re-started Outlook, but the sound was not restored. Does anyone know how to restore my sounds?

Custom Sounds Dont Work

Feb 27, 2009

So I am goofy and want my Vista Ultimate to play my own wav files instead of the ones it came with. but they simply don't play at all. I have done everything I know how to get this to work. I go to control panel sounds and the sound tab and have put the .wav files i want to use into the C:/Windows/Media folder and am able to select them through the sound menu... but the test option plays nothing for my wavs and it doesnt do anything when the system is supposed to make said sound...

I even checked all the properties to make sure they were the same the only differance I can see is that the sound files that work are owned by the system and the ones that dont are owned by administraitor. I do know how to change the ownership of files through the properties menu but even in Administraitor mode there is no option for system... I do not however think that it is the cause... is it that vista just doesnt want you using your own sound files?

Im not sure it's related or not. When I even move my cursor over a icon on my desktop it gives that windows sounds, like a critical beep. When I click on a topic here in the newsgroup to read, same thing. Clicking on contrl panel incons or any incons up there, same noise.

Any Sounds Playing At The Time Would Stutter Like A Broken Cd, System Freezes

May 26, 2008

This is about my fifth build, and it went great: loaded up the OS and updated all drivers (using only 2 GB RAM), started (cautiously) loading up all my software, taking care to only load software that had 64 bit driver support, as far as I could tell. I am a graphic designer and creative director, so I use Adobe CS3 and Office and game a little. Use Skype very frequently. First off, SoundBlaster had no 64 bit support (I have never had much confident in Creative), so I simply took out the card and thought I might wait or scratch it.

More importantly, the system freezes. Hangs. Stalls, what-have-you. Just stops and needs a hard reboot. Any sounds playing at the time would stutter like a broken cd. I tried many things and am not overclocking. Eventually, needing to get work done, I simply figured there wasn't enough 64 bit driver support and yesterday fresh installed the 32 bit Vista using the alternate DVD that came in the package. Unfortunately, the system is behaving in exactly the same way.

Explorer Window Showing Different Filenames Than The Command Line Window

Can anyone explain this: 3219. The screenshot shows the folder view (in Windows Explorer), and a directory listing (in a Command Line window). Why is the Explorer window showing different filenames than the command line window? It's not so much of an issue, as I'm currently completing a scheduled backup of this drive using Nero Burning ROM, and will be formatting it soon.

Shut Window, "WINDOW Is Not Properly Shut Down"

Apr 3, 2008

About 40% of the time when I either choose HIBERNATE or the standard SHUT DOWN, the computer just keeps on running. Although it seems WINDOW has shut down, the "ON" light is still on and I can hear the fan running. When this happens I am left with no other option but to use the "emergency shut down" method - pressing the ON button for more than 4 seconds (ASUS laptop, using Vista Home Premium). Presumably this method would damage the computer in some ways in the long run?

I assume WINDOW is shut down because the next time when I turn on the computer it doesn't say the "WINDOW is not properly shut down". So can any kind souls please help me with this annoying problem of turning off the computer completely?
