View 4 Replies View RelatedI had no issues with Windows Mail as my default client and a new message window would open when I clicked mailto links. Earlier today I clicked a mailto for the first time in a week or so, and it tried to open Microsoft Outlook 2003, which is also installed on my machine, but not the default mail handler. Going into the Mozilla Firefox options, I found that for some reason it was defaulting to Outlook. I changed the setting to Windows Mail, but now instead of opening the new message window, it just opens Windows Mail.

My mail is a mess - old mesages are being re-sent, I occasionally get a message and occasionally can send one. Sporadic at best. View 4 Replies View RelatedI want to backup my emails in Win Mail (Vista home premium) - all of them so theres hundreds of them in dozens of folders I have created. So I go file - export - messages, select a format, select an EMPTY folder on my 1TB external drive, then try to export. I either get an error message telling me that some files may be corrupt, or that the destination folder may be too small. Or if I select just a tiny folder to export, it says export successful, but it only exports ONE email - the top one in the list I think? I really dont think I have corrupted files here - any folder I select to export seems to have a problem... as my motherboard is flakey, and I want to do the backup ASAP before it 'flakes' again!

Downloading incoming mail is not a problem, and I obviously can post to newsgroups. Although this is a new problem, I turned off Norton's checking of outgoing mail - no change. Verizon had us change to Port 587 last year so that's not the issue either. WM does send e-mail from my desktop so apparently the problem is specific to the laptop.

View 4 Replies View RelatedMy mom changed her theme the other day and now there are no sounds for new messaged received, opening and closing windows, logging in or out, emptying recycle bin...etc. I've tried going into sounds and picking new ones, old ones and nothing works. In sounds where you can "test" a certain sound, nothing plays. It's not the speakers cause music plays just fine. I loaded all the windows media files into windows media player and they work so it's not that. How do I get them to play again?

However, at work I use Outlook Express and there are a few things that I like from it that I am unsure whether Windows Mail has or if I am just not finding them. The main thing is:
I colour code messages (categorise them) by descriptions I have altered them to, for example, if I select pink, this is known as 'awaiting others actions' and if I select blue this is 'Needs further attention by me' or purple meaning 'completed'. Does Windows Mail have this option anywhere at all so that I can colour my inbox messages until I have dealt with them all fully. I would be greatful for any advice about this.

Everytime I open IE an error messeage gets displayed. I clicked the "Diagnose Connection Problems" button and the a box appeared saying "Windows confirmed that www.yahoo.com is currenly online, but is not responding to connection attemps at this time. This usually means that a irewall is runng somewhere between the wo computers and is blocking World Wide web servie (HTTP). Windows has confirmed that indows Firewall on this computer is correctly configured to allow this conection. However, a remote firewall mightbe blocking your connection." If you have access to this firewall then configure the firewall to allow connection through TCP port80. If you don't have acess contact your network aministrator or internet service provider. What should I do?

I have Windows Vista Home Premium on my laptop, and I just recently purchased an upgrade to Ultimate. However, when I'm trying to Install it, as soon as I enter the product key during the instalation process, I keep getting these error messages sayin: "Install Windows: setup.exe - Bad Image C:$WINDOWS.~BTSourcespidgenx.dll is either not designed to run on windows or it contains an error. Try installing the program again using the original installation media or contact your system administrator or the software vendor for support."
And then once I click OK, it says under the product key "Windows installation has encountered an error and needs to be restarted." I tried restarting the upgrade, and then the computer and the problem still exists. Do anybody have any suggestions to fix this? And what do they mean by "Try installing the program again using the original installation media"?

I keep getting the low disc space on C: error message, and when I click on My Computer, it says I only have 189 MB of free space on the C: drive. However, when I click on the C drive, highlight all the folders, and click Properties, it says I am using 26 GB of space next to "size on disk". I tried to solve this problem about a week ago by moving 30 gigs of music to an external hard drive, but the C drive has filled up again even though I have not added anything to the C drive. I've also tried using disk cleanup and defrag, but that hasn't worked. This seems like a pretty serious problem. What's the deal?

View 5 Replies View RelatedSomehow, there is a system (presumeably software) conflict of some type that will no longer let several of my software applications (itunes, quickbook, quicken, etc) connect to the internet. Specifically, itunes can connect to the internet, but when I try to connect to the store, I get an error message (-9812). Same with Quicken when we try to connect securely to banks. This is a problem specifically b/c I can no longer sync my iphone.
I have uninstalled my Norton internet security, turned off the firewall, made sure all the software has exceptions w/in the firewall with it on, made sure the date/time clock is correct, changed internet explorer security, disabled as many programs (in attempt to get arround any conflicts) and restarted the computer in safe mode all without success. I also cleared out my host file, but that didn't work either. My older laptop with windows xp and my two iphones are having no such connection issues. So therefor, I'm fairly certain it's a windows or software issue of some type.
I've searched everything, tried as much as I know to do. My next best solution was to maybe do a system restore to a prior timepoint, but using the system restore feature within windows, it only gives me a weeks worth of dates to choose from... I need to go back like 1-2 months now. Does anyone have a solution or another method to go back in time without completely starting from scratch? (I have a dell that will let me restore back to factory settings). One other option I considered was upgrading to windows 7 as it might solve my problem and allow me to keep all my settings. Opinions on this option?
