Too Silent Output Into SPDIF On Realtek

Apr 3, 2008

I have Realtek high definition audio onboard with one coaxial and one optical digital out. I have the newest driver. I need to connect PC with Panasonic AV Receiver via digital connection. When I use coaxial connection, sound works fine BUT sound is too silent! I have Sony DVD player with coaxial digital output too. If I use subjective for example 1-10 "scale", build-in RDS tuner (in AV receiver) has subjective volume 10, sound from CD inserted in DVD player has the same subjective volume 10 and sound from PC connected via coaxial digi has subjective volume 5. Only volume control i have in Windows is set to max!

Realtek HD Audio ALC883 - S/PDIF: Make The Coaxial Port As An Output Port Instead Of Optical

Apr 25, 2008

I have evga motherboard with built in Realtek HD audio (ALC883). Board features 2 ports for digital audio (optical and coaxial). and according to manual both are output. However when installed vista drivers one of the ports has been chosen as digital output (optical) and another as digital input (coax) (i can see that when i hover the mouse over the jacks in "Realtek HD audio manager") Is there any way to make the coaxial port as an output port instead of optical? My my HT reciver has no free optical ports so i have to use coax to get some sound from the computer.

1. When I go into Control Panel >> Sound >> select Realtek High Def Audio device Properties and then go to the Supported Formats tab, when I click Dolby Digital and Test, I don't hear any sound

2. When I check that Dolby Digital box on the Supported Formats sound tab, and try to play DVDs or multichannel .dvr-ms files, I get no sound

3. When I uncheck the Dolby Digital box and play a DVD, I do get sound from 2 speakers

4. When I play a .mkv file with DTS I do get 5.1 sound

5. When I play a Blu-ray disc through Arcsoft TotalMedia Theatre, I have the "downmix" option selected in the software, and I do get 5.1 DTS sound

Adobe Flash: The Silent Privacy Killer

Dec 29, 2008

there are hundreds of applications out there from spyware cleaners to built-in browser features that eliminate cookies on the spot, and even let you set cookie policies on your computer regarding what can be stored in your machine, and for how long. i’m assuming that if you’re here reading this post, you already know all of the dangers of cookies on your computer. in all honesty, i don’t seriously believe that they’re the most dangerous form of movement or web tracking, but they can definitely be used to monitor more movements than a person should feel comfortable with.

what if there was a type of cookie that could:

stay on your computer for an unlimited amount of time store 100 kb of data by default, with an unlimited max couldn’t be deleted by your browser send previous visit information and history, by default, without your permission okay… that’s a pretty scary cookie. as it is right now, the cookies we’re so deadly afraid of can store a maximum of 4 kb of information, are manage by your browser, and by default have reasonable defaults and restrictions.
this type of cookie exists on 98% of global computers, across all operating systems. it’s the adobe flash player.

the adobe flash player maintains proprietary cookies called local shared objects or lso’s. lso’s are capable of storing 100 kb’s of information for an indefinite amount of time by default. when you clear your browser history in internet explorer, firefox or opera on windows, linux, or os x lso’s are not cleared from adobe’s local repository.

in fact, all the information in those cookies will remain indefinitely until they’re removed by the issuing website, or by you via a cumbersome and ridiculous process.
unfortunately, i haven’t even explained the worst of it.

there’s no easy way to tell what sites are using flash cookies to track your movements. there’s no list, and there doesn’t have to be a flash gui or visible application for flash cookies to be present. in fact, most websites using flash for user tracking don’t create gui’s, toolbars, or applications that you can actually see in your browser while browsing the site.

many times a tiny flash module, 2 kb in size or less is loaded into your browser on every page visit in the same way a gif, jpg or other image is. the whole purpose of this tiny, invisible flash module might be to simply record the page request, and your username or other session variables.

alright, so now you’re sufficiently convinced that this is creepy stuff. let’s talk about how to get rid of it?

lame as it might be, the flash player has no ability to delete cookies. and as i’ve already said, your browser can’t help you out. it doesn’t even know these cookies exist! most of the privacy settings for adobe flash have be accessed via a flash application on adobe’s website called the adobe flash player settings manager.

if you want to access the settings manager, you can do so here. in fact, open it up now and let’s take a look.

if you’ve clicked the link above, then you’re looking at the flash player settings manager, and a list of all the sites currently storing information on the cookies stored on your computer.

looking at my list, i see over 100 websites that have been accessing the same cookie for the last year (the last time i formatted my computer). some of them are storing only 1kb of information, some are storing the full 100 kb’s. on my own computer, i see that my bank is storing flash information despite the fact that there isn’t a single flash application visible when i log in to check my balance. i see Internet, cnn, microsoft, rotten tomatoes and a ton more!

to delete all the flash cookies currently being stored on your machine:

go to the settings manager (website storage settings) go to the far-right tab click

“delete all sites” to prevent websites from storing any more information on your
computer:

go to settings manager click the second tab from the left (global storage settings) set the storage settings slider to none uncheck “allow third party flash content to store data on your computer there are several other “privacy” settings on the other tabs, but don’t be persuaded. most of those privacy settings have to do with whether or not websites can access your microphone and webcam. there isn’t a single cookie option on any of the privacy tabs on the settings manager.

adobe, as a global leader in browser technology (a 98% computer market share), has a responsibility to make privacy options easily accessible from within the player application itself. they also have a responsibility to set reasonble default limitations. it’s ridiculous that they would enable websites to store cookies indefinitely, and in such large sizes.

5.1 / Digital Output Failure

Mar 19, 2008

I m using, Vista Home Premium 64bit with sp1 Asus P5N-E SLI motherboard which has a realtek ALC883 sound chip (a 7.1 chip but its limited to 5.1 on this board as standard) im using the Coax output on the back which is contected to my 5.1 sound system. and im using the R1.89 realtek HD audio driver codec (have tryed R1.88,R1.87a,R1.87, and the ones that came with the motherboard R1.57). i can only get 5.1 sound when i play a DVD in WMP, Media center and the realtek digital out put test works too. But when i try playing games (crysis, call of duty 4 and so on) im stuck with dolby pro logic 2.1 and i also can't seem to see the digital output on the realtek manager either no matter what version i use. also the jack info seems a little odd to me.

i want to output sound through my digital output and through my front jacks at the same time, i.e while watching a movie through my digital output (monitor i.e video extended to my tv) and playing a game at the same time (game on my LCD), with sound coming out my front sound jack for the game. so basically in a nut shell, i want to watch movies and play games at the same time, while the respective sound comes through different outputs.

No Audio Output Device Installed

Jan 6, 2009

So I mananaged to get my Old HP PSC 500 to work on my HP Pavillion a6030n with VISTA gave up on the scanning part totally. Bought and installed a new I/O card to do this and tinkered for days! NOW, I realize I have NO SOUND searched all of the threads and experimented with various and sundry but to no avail. The speakers were old JBL PROs had been working changed them out for some old BOSTON speakers (also working on old Gateway) still getting the "No Audio Output Device Installed" and don't even get a "Sound and Video" portion in Device Manager!

Tried downloading Realtek AC97-Audio-Codec-driver-A397 as it was mentioned as a fix in another thread. No joy! Will installing another driver help this? I can't see why the card would be damaged as the previous install didn't go near it. I am not a total novice but small words would be helpful as my brainmatter is fried and not a lot of hair left on the head.

No Audio Output Device Is Installed After Updates

Nov 23, 2009

so i just got internet to my computer after almost 2 years of it being out of commission, it still worked and we were able to play games like solitaire and the sims but there was no internet hooked up to it. it installed all kinds of updates and one night i was listening to music via wmp and the next day i went to listen and it said "no audio output device is installed"

i tried updating the device and it said that my driver was up to date.

i also tried uninstalling it and rebooting my computer and that didn't work.

i don't see any error messages in the device manager, i clicked the icon with the little magnifying glass and nothing showed up.

i don't know what else i can do, besides take my computer and throw it into traffic.

i have alot of music on this computer that i listen to on a daily basis and would hate to have to switch it all to a new computer, or even buy a new computer for that matter just because my speakers aren't working.

Recognise Headphone And Speaker As Different Output Devices

I want to do is have my headphone to have a different audio stream than my speakers so that I can talk to a friend through my headset and receive the voice audio, but to also have through my speakers sound from other programs. The software I'm using is Realtek Audio Manager and it hasn't been helpful whatsoever, I've had two computers and I've had the same problem with them both.

Realtek HD Audio And SP2

Jun 16, 2009

After installing SP2 I noticed that Windows had replaced my Realtek HD Audio driver with its own older version. It also now appears twice in the Device Manager; I can remove one of them with no ill effects but it is redetected at next boot and reinstalled. So I removed both of them, installed the latest Realtek driver and rebooted. Now I still have two instances - one (called Realtek High Definition Audio) with the Realtek driver and the other (simply called High Definition Audio Device) with the Microsoft drivers. If I force the Microsoft one to use the Realtek drivers it crashes horribly with a BSoD (so I won't be doing that again!).

Once again I can remove the Microsoft one with no ill effects but it's redetected and installed again on the next boot.Something in my memory tells me I always had two entries under 'Sound, Video and game controllers' but the second one wasn't called "High Definition Audio Device" and the Driver Provider was Realtek, not Microsoft. Trouble is, I can't remember what it was called, or what it was for. I could always do a System Restore to pre-SP2 and find out that way but it's probably worth finding out here first whether I'm worrying about nothing or not. It seems I've got two components of the same chip with drivers from different releases.

Switch Audio Output Device Automatically Between HDMI And Speakers

Jan 16, 2009

I have a laptop (Dell XPS M1330) running Vista Home Premium 32bit featuring an HDMI port and, as far as I can see, a soundcard called SigmaTel High Definition Audio. I regularly watch videos on my LCD TV using HDMI and I am constantly annoyed by the fact that the audio output doesn't automatically switch over to HDMI when the cable is connected (or vice versa when the cable is disconnected).

One would expect it to do so as this is how it generally works when f.ex. headphones are connected and indeed, on my laptop, the audio switches from speakers to headphones automatically without any problems. My solution to the problem is to manually change the default output device to HDMI and then restarting the media player. I cannot see why this operation cannot be automatic, and therefore I ask of you all if there is any way to accomplish an automatic switch from speakers to HDMI when an HDMI cable is connected
