Set Up Taskbar Two Rows In Heighth With The Quick Launch Icons

Feb 4, 2010

I normally set up my taskbar two rows in heighth with the quick launch icons on the far left. This leaves the middle section for the "open tabs". I recently did a clean reinstall (restored an image) and somewhere in that process or the ensuing windows updates, the taskbar layout got all screwed up and I am unable to make it right. This is what is there now (with the task bar unlocked so the "dotted section divider lines" are visible: On the far left next to the Start button is the first set of divider lines.

(Normally, the quick launch icons are to the left of this line). To the right of the divider lines are the "tabs" for open windows. Then to the right of these are the second set of divider lines, followed by the quick launch icons, followed by the third set of divider lines. To the right of the third set is an address tool bar I installed and then the notification area. I have searched through the microsoft site and found nothing that helps me with this. This anomoly has happened before (sometime ago with XP) and somehow I fixed it by "fiddling around". My curse in life is that I am not able to live with these little annoyances.

Change DPI (dots Per Inch) On My Screen

Apr 22, 2009

I am setting up my vista machine. I would like to change my DPI (dots per inch) on my screen. So, I go to my desktop's Personalize -> Display Settings -> Advanced Settings. As the Vista help says, I should be able to see a tab called "Scale (DPI)". But I only see tabs "Adapter", "Monitor", "Color Management", etc. My graphic card is NVIDIA Quadro FX 1700. Is it a graphic card related issue? I don't think it's a monitor issue since I was able to set DPI using my old XP machine and the same monitors.

Black Dots On Desktop Background

Jun 5, 2009

I recently downloaded a wallpaper changer program called Winvista. As soon as I started to play with the different wallpapers on my desktop, I couldn't help but notice that it had completely cocked up! It seems rather odd, behind the display picture there are a series of grid formad dots, very small and regemented. These move around when I open windows over them or when I select desktop icons. I had a go at changing my resolution, display settings, themes, effects and tried using different background pictures. I've restarted a few times and have selected to use different solid colours, but these dots don't budge.

Colored Dots And Objects At Top Of Screen...

Nov 6, 2009

When my computer finishes starting up, it ends with what looks like blobs of colored pixels in a line at the top of my screen. This happened for the first time tonight and I have no clue what happened. I took out my video card and plugged my monitor into the mother boards vga slot. Same result. Then i used a HDMI cable from my monitor to my motherboards HDMI slot. Still, with the same result.

I plugged my Xbox 360 up to monitor with the HDMI cable and it looks fine so it's not on the monitor's end. When the computer is loading, the screen stays black. Then when my desktop would normally show is when the pixels show up and the rest of the screen is black.

Black Dots On Desktop Background?

Mar 4, 2010

The thread I'm referring to is called "Black Dots On Desktop Background" and it was posted by charleyvonne. I quote it below. The program isn't running now, but I still have the dots! I could try to put up a screen cap of my desktop if it helps?

I downloaded Winvista, a wallpaper changer program, just as this member did, and then black dots appeared on the background colour of my desktop. It is very annoying, and I didn't experience the problem until I downloaded Winvista. I have deleted the Winvista program, since it didn't really work for me anyway, and also I've tried system restore- with no change.I am VERY anxious to correct this issue. Can someone give me some advice? I've checked the advice given on the outdated thread- none of it seemed to offer the solution I need. Also, in the outdated thread charleyvonne didn't seem to find a solution either.

System Boots Then Blue Screen

Sep 26, 2009

all day I've been trying to sort this out but to no avail. I've searched Google like crazy, and whilst I've found that others have had this issue there's been no real resolution. My system boots all the way up to the point of the loading bar, then it goes blue screen and restarts. I've found that it loads up in safe mode, and I can access all my drives (I've tried unplugging external devices), and I'm 99% certain that running a system restore would fix the issue. HOWEVER, safe mode revokes me of all rights to perform any system based tasks, so obviously it won't allow me to run system restore, regedit, pretty much anything. Here's what I've tried so far:

-Running system repair through a boot disk, it didn't find anything wrong

-I tried running system restore through the boot disk but apparently there weren't any restore files (which isn't true)

Blue Screen: System Helted

Apr 6, 2008

I am building this mach from scratch, so I picked Vista hardware.Such as:Abit IP35v mobo, Intel P4-D 930, OCZ Pc 6400 DDR2 2x2gig(4gig) and MSI NS8500GT TD256E-OC PCIe 16x video.Pioneer DvD DL writer SATA.Others: Rosewill RAID PCIe 1x controller w/2ea Seagate 250G SATA2 HD, 2ea TV tuners 550 Theater Pro, Fatal1ty X-Fi sound..The only hardware items migrating to the New box, from my old box, is the TV tuners & X-Fi sound brd... all PCI devices..I am trying to install Vista from scratch, I purchased an OEM copy of Home Premium. After wrestling with trying to find a Partitioning prog that would Boot from a SATA DvD ROM, I plugged my PATA model in and was able to partition the RAID volume... But got a Blue screen saying something about "my system was halted to save it from damage, etc" stopped at 0x0000012(0x00000000,0x8BC50028,0x000000,0x00000000)...

When I Booted from Vista CD, and started the install... That was with all hardware in place..I have removed everything, now I have Mobo, mem, CPU/ sink, video, PATA DvD
& 1ea SATA HD, partitioned w/ Pri NTFS Bootable, on port 1..I still get Blue screen, but the numbers are alittle differant..Only the numbers changed to 0x8BD9DD18..The install goes as far as Displaying "Microsoft Corp" with a green strobe L>R... and then Blue screens about 1-2mins into the install... or should I say after the strobe appears..Any ideas? I have tried a differant video card, but it Blue screens almost emediatly when the green strobes starts up... with different numbers again.0x8BD50028.

System Restore + Blue Screen = Virus?

Jan 20, 2009

I've got Win Vista Home Premium SP1. Up until recently, when i chose System Restore it came up with a calander-like window and then i was able to choose the day i wanted my sistem restored to. Then a few days ago I experienced a crash, and it took my pc a while to check my disk (the only one, since it's a laptop).

That's the checking:

Then i manged to enter Vista again, and i thought i'd just restore again, hoping nothing was wrong. And when i clicked System Restore it took absolutely AGES to open (the rest of the stuff worked/s well...) and when it eventually opened i got that:

And now, if i choose "Choose a different restore point", i get this:

Where has the calender gone? Where are my previous restore points??? What's wrong?

Then, yesterday i was checking bbc's webpage and i came across this article: Click

Blue Green Screen Wouldn't Working System

Sep 15, 2009

my problem being stuck at the blue/green screen while making a new fresh install.) Well I first signed up because I have was having install problems. When it got to the blue/green screen it wouldnt do anything. But what do u know.. right when I was typing this it starts to load and Im now on my way installing windows vista 64 bit! (cause I just recently bought 8gb of memory) Well... I guess I would explain my story since Im a newbie... and something for you guys to read.. Well my computer really needed a new HDD because for some reason my old one would always get curupted after like so many months... about 2-3 months? I was wow **** this. I wasnt sure why it was doing this. But my computer was only on a surge so I think maybe a couple power outages ****ed it up. (I already fixed that problem though, just bought a battery from newegg.com, when I bought more things, like my new hdd, memory, mouse and mouse pad.)

so finally my memory and windows vista x64 bit dvd came into the mail. As soon as I got em... I installed the memory then I wanted to upgrade my version of windows xp 32bit (I must say a really good OS at the moment, till when windows 7 comes out) So I tried just throwing in the cd and found out I couldnt upgrade that way. Because I got an error that said "somethin, cant remember the full message but bascially because I couldnt run 64bit dvd when I have 32bit" so no biggie right? Then I was like ok well I can just install it by booting up. I got passed the part that said "Now loading windows vista files" alright not bad... so far so good. But damn I was wrong when I got to the blue/green background. I noticed the dvd wasn't spinning my computer was just sitting there. It was frozen though since I could still move the mouse. So I was like oh man... cmon vista... Well I waited a little bit not to much though cause I think it should just pop up and start working. It wasnt doing that so I knew something was wrong......

Computer Booted, But No Desktop

Oct 30, 2009

The computer had been infected by some malicious software and it did not boot at all. After some tinkering I managed to get into safe mode and run MBAM. The computer eventually booted, but had no desktop. I went into the Task manager and saw that there was no Explorer process, so I started it and al was well. I then booted from the OS disc included with the PC, got into the repair screen that had sustem restore and restored the PC to a date before it got infected. This worked well and now the PC boot into Vista without any problems. I ran an antivirus and MBAM and neither detected any malware.

I thought all was well until I tried to connect to the Internet. I have cable service, a modem connected to a router and the PCs connected to the router. The Vista installation would not see anything out there, I tinkered and managed to get a message that said that there was "limited connectivity available". I figured that the LAN card's driver had been corrupted so I downloaded the driver and installed it. The installation was successful, but the problem persisted. I then went into Dev. manager and went into the card's properties. The status comment indicated that the device was working correctly. I noticed that there was another LAN device under the Network. It was the MS 6to 4 Adapter and there was anexclamation point next to it. I went into its properties and the remark indicated code 31.

Haven't Booted Into Ubuntu One Single Time

Jul 26, 2008

I do not like XP. With a passion. It blows, along with all the people clinging to it's rotting carcass. May they all die horrid putrid rotting deaths. Okay not really but you get that I don't care much for XP, right?. I've always used linux as long as I remember too (****e I've used everything over the years - Atari, Amiga, Commodore..), and I actually abandoned XP for Ubuntu, save for playing games. I love Ubuntu! But, I must say using Vista 64 now for about a month I actually *like it*. There are a bit of things Mac OS could stea.. err borrow. Like Readyboost. I found a 2 pack of PNY 4 gig drives on sale for $25 at staples a few weeks ago, so I snagged them to use for readyboost. It's fantastic, Firefox is loaded and displaying the home page before I even release the damn mouse button. ..................

Booted Safe Mode Renamed The Amdlld.sys File

Jun 17, 2009

I have an Asus M2A-VM HDMI motherboard in my home theater system. I just upgraded the CPU (to X4) & BIOS (to 2302). My initial problem after the upgrade was the BSOD in 32-bit Vista blaming the file "amdlld.sys." I booted into safe mode and renamed the amdlld.sys file. Now the machine boots up fine with no BSOD. My question is: is there any Microsoft Vista 32bit system files needed for the new X4 that I need to install? (the AMD website only shows processor drivers for Windows XP and Server 2003. . .but nothing for Vista) The reason I ask: while my system appears to be working fine. . .the Winrar benchmarks do not reflect the scores of a typical AMD quad core CPU (about 1350). Instead, I am getting around 350. Something is missing here. But what?

Different Blue Screens:Look Like Blue Screen Appears When To Much Action Is Going On Like Opening Of IE And Outlook

Feb 13, 2009

Problem Blue Screen. No new hardware or software installed recently, last Windows vista update was on 01/15. When I start first, PC passes user registration (boots fine) and
does the normal stuff like loading software and starting the wireless internet connection via Netgear, opening some windows/programms I will close. All normal, but than comes a Blue Screen and very fast shut down of system with restart. Hardly can read the message...Look like Blue Screen appears when to much action is going on like opening of IE and Outlook... or open to many windows... or some bad programm/hardware is booting. But when I restart, restart gives a different blue screens and trouble is much earlier or directly after registering to the system.

But all starting or booting turn slower, real slow now. Start in --safe mode with net working-- the PC works, but the PC can't handle heavy workloads, is really slow in action. I cannot open --My pictures-- to see all picture files displyed on screen (2.7 GB) (the process trying to access the files in safe mode is real slow) and when I attempt to transfer the file to a USB stick, the computer is stopping in middle of action (after 50% transfer)..........
