View 5 Replies View RelatedSeveral months ago, I was attempting to install software that I didn't think to consider was not compatible with Vista. It was made for Windows XP, and I was deleting files on my C: Drive to make room. I accidentally deleted a file that took my desktop with it. Now, when I log on, to any user on the computer, there is a black screen with the "My Computer" window up. I've included a picture to show. Minimized windows are irrelevant. I'm just multi-tasking at the moment.

If this is the wrong forum in which to be posting, please direct me to the correct site.To provide a little background: a few years back when I was running XP I spent some considerable time learning the basics of programming using Liberty Basic. After some success with this platform I decided it was time to attempt to expand my knowledge using a more flexible and comprehensive platform. I purchased the referenced product version 2003. I had really just gotten into it when I accepted a number of contract positions that kept me out of the country for a number of years. (Construction supervision constantly on the move.) When I finally retired and went back to the computer for pleasure and learning, I switched to Vista as my O/S. I went back and brushed up on my knowledge using liberty Basic and have decided it is time to give C++ programming another try. I have installed the required platform, but I get a message telling me that there is compatibility issues.
My questions are these: is the 2003 version of this platform compatible with Vista? If not, can I update it or will I have to purchase a newer version? I have checked the links provided with the disks to update at least some of the components (there has to be about a hundred different upgrades and I'm not sure which ones I will require.)

I have recently purchased Vista 64bit via digital rivers "Ultimate Steal". View 7 Replies View RelatedThe computer had been infected by some malicious software and it did not boot at all. After some tinkering I managed to get into safe mode and run MBAM. The computer eventually booted, but had no desktop. I went into the Task manager and saw that there was no Explorer process, so I started it and al was well. I then booted from the OS disc included with the PC, got into the repair screen that had sustem restore and restored the PC to a date before it got infected. This worked well and now the PC boot into Vista without any problems. I ran an antivirus and MBAM and neither detected any malware.
I thought all was well until I tried to connect to the Internet. I have cable service, a modem connected to a router and the PCs connected to the router. The Vista installation would not see anything out there, I tinkered and managed to get a message that said that there was "limited connectivity available". I figured that the LAN card's driver had been corrupted so I downloaded the driver and installed it. The installation was successful, but the problem persisted. I then went into Dev. manager and went into the card's properties. The status comment indicated that the device was working correctly. I noticed that there was another LAN device under the Network. It was the MS 6to 4 Adapter and there was anexclamation point next to it. I went into its properties and the remark indicated code 31.

I love Ubuntu! But, I must say using Vista 64 now for about a month I actually *like it*. There are a bit of things Mac OS could stea.. err borrow. Like Readyboost. I found a 2 pack of PNY 4 gig drives on sale for $25 at staples a few weeks ago, so I snagged them to use for readyboost.
