View 5 Replies View RelatedI recently bought a new PC with Windows Vista (Home Premium) and migrated my old Outlook Express folders and emails as per the Help instructions. All appeared well as all the old folders appear in Windows Mail. However there appear to be NO emails in any of the folders. What is also strange is that some of these apparently empty folders appear in bold displaying the number of unread emails in the folder. Presumably some indexing fault has occurred - repeated attempts at importing have failed.
View 7 Replies View RelatedDirve 0: Primary Partition for current XP, another Primary Partition for a new install of Vista Drive 1: The data drive. I absolutely must have the data drive, Drive 1, be the D drive. I have a lot of applications that expect to find the data there and I need to switch between the two OS's seamlessly (I am a software developer and testing in both OS's)
I have tried installing Vista twice now and both times the D drive is the XP primary partition. It looks like Microsoft is using the XP partition as the boot partition, even when booting Vista. The XP partition is first, so I am not surprised. What I need is some way of booting up so that the partition that XP is on is hidden, which I know is one of the states a Primary partition can be in. Back in years gone by, I did this with System Commander, but there has to be a less expensive (free) way of doing it today.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI am knowledgeable about XP and have used VISTA ultimate for months now but I have found a problem I cant figure out involving the "Document" folder and files under the "Owner" user. Up to to a few weeks ago I did have the document folder under the user "OWNER" encrypted using Vista encryption option and as expected it would show up as blue file names and could be open and saved under "owner". Now when ever I open up any of the edit programs ( Word, Notepad ) it doesn't show that there is a document folder. If I save a file it goes some were never to be found again. When I look for the document folder ( C: userowner ) All the folders are there Except the document folder. I check under the DOS prompt and it cant see it there. When I try and create a document folder it says that it already exist.

When I click this down arrow the folders become invisible (closed) but I'm unable to reopen them unless I close Explorer and reopen it. Also, without having to to install 3rd party software, is there a way in Explorer tot display ONLY the Folder structure of my drives? I want only to 'see' C: open and the other drives closed. I'm using Vista Home Basic SP1

Chkdsk found nothing wrong.Sfc /scannow doesn? start. In Safe Mode it is impossible to start any program. Otherwise, most programs work fine although they go frequently in Not responding mode. I used all AV, Spyware and rootkit scanners for x64 I could find. Same result: No infection! I see only one explanation: one or more Vista System files are corrupted or missing. How can I repair Vista without having to reinstall al programs and settings? Is it possible to trick Vista to make an Upgrade Install (which I understand
keeps the programs and settings) from Ultimate to Ultimate? When I try a message tells me that I can upgrade only to a newer version.
A multitude of files, folders and sub-folders have disappeared (all from my "Documents"). Miscellaneous sub-folders within folders have disappeared, while other sub-folders remain intact. At first I was completely lost, as the files were there not 30 minutes prior... After assuming the worst and thinking that they had corrupted or been deleted due to a virus, I:
- Made sure my folder options were set properly (I can view all hidden files)
- Thoroughly checked the recycle bin
- Did numerous searches
- Downloaded Google Desktop and searched some more
- Ran various "undelete" and "recovery" programs with no results
- Did a system restore...........

View 4 Replies View RelatedEvery Windows power user knows the command line is “the place” to get serious work done. The new Start Menu search box in Windows Vista opens the door to a whole new level of command line possibilities. One utility called Start++ extends the Start Menu search box to add even more features allowing you to use shortcuts to launch web sites and processes.
Would you like to search Google from your start menu search box? Just type g followed by your query such as “g tweak vista”. How about doing a quick search on Wikipedia? Type w and your query in the search box. The possibilities are endless because you can create custom shortcuts just like the examples above.
On top of web shortcuts, you can also create application links that will launch an app and open a file. Almost anything is possible with a little customization of the Start++ utility shown below....
I started up my computer and it would show the moving loading bar thing and then it would boot up again in a cycle. I tried to use the command prompt to fix the boot loader. After that, the computer would not load up the opening page with the user accounts and stuff. All it showed was a black screen with a mouse (which i could move). Even more surprising is that the recovery hard drive won't boot up either and the recovery disks don't work either. I tried system restore and it told me that there were no recovery points made.

Rebooting windows normally and it keeps crashing once the log on screen appears. Tried the safe basic safe mode which loads, but the safe mode with networking and command promopt options do not load - windows stops. Tried the vista repair with the cd but that stops too once the 100% bar has completed. Chkdsk fails as well. I haven't tried building a recover disk yet,

View 9 Replies View RelatedBeen having a monitor issue lately ever since I installed SP2 for Vista 64bit. Sometimes when I turn the PC on the monitor goes into immeadiate sleepode (the power button blinks). I don;t even see the BIOS boot screen....nothing...just black.
I sometimes can hear windows loading but nothing is on the screen. At other times I don't hear Windows loading at all.
I'm thinking it's a BIOS problem or maybe even a MB problem.
I would appreciate some help on this. I've never had this problem before SP2
Weirdness continues....managed to get some sort of display happening only to be told my windows system files are corrupted and that I need to do a repair...which I am doing now after several attempts to get the BIOS to boot from the DVD drive
Well I bit the bullet and restarted the PC...dissapointed to say that it's didn;t work.
It seems like the BIOS isn;t loding any basic video nor is windows.
Sometimes it just doesn;t even seem to be booting into BIOS at all.

key services I wouldn't touch myself aren't running and I can't start them - it's not just the iSCSI service that I spotted first, it is also the Event Log, Task

There's 20GB free on the System disk (System Restore is enabled - there is ONE restore point!), so why only one restore point available?.......

View 4 Replies View RelatedThe computer(hp m9150f) just won't start up. I've tried running CHKDSK and startup repair but I keep getting an error message saying that it was unable to fix it. Let me just say that the computer with the problem is not mine but my family's. I rarely use it, so I don't know what they might have done to it. They told me they had some important files inside the computer so they don't want me to do an hp system restore before they saved the files. So, what I've came up with is to do a vista upgrade first, so then they'd have access to their files. Then I would use the hp system restore to restore everything back to the normal. Can anybody here tell me if this would work and also if there's any other way to fix it?
