I have a computer which runs Windows Vista 32 bit and I have a problem with it. When my computer its turned on and I leave eat(because eating and so) it goes to standby or power saving mode. And when I come back and move the mouse or pressing enter it will not start again!!? and the mouse, the keyboard, my external sound card and my monitor is not powered. its simply dead. (the power button on my computer (the harddisk) is blue and it means that the pc is turned on but the monitor is just going to sleep. To shut down and restart the pc I need to hold down the power button. After that I restart the pc by pressing power button again and all the thing works again and windows says: continues windows and then I am where it went to standby or power saving mode ?
At the moment my fully charged HP dv9000 battery only lasts about 1 hour, and thats when its in power saving mode, screen closed and only playing winamp. I've been through all the advanced power saving options to try fully make optimal use of my battery power. Is there any software or any particular method to make my laptop battery last longer?
I have a Sony Vaio. I just bought it a week ago. Model PCG-3G5L. At random intervals I get a black screen, like a standby mode, and I have to press the power button or tap a bucnh of keys to turn it back on. I did a virus sweep and I have no viruses. Sleep mode is disabled. It was working FINE yesterday.
my computer has been failing to enter and stay in standby mode. I had set the power button to initiate hibernate, sleep button to initiate sleep and close the lid to turn the computer off. All was working fine and settings are all as they should be, to my knowlege nothing has been changed but when I press the power button or try to enter hibernate through the start menu, the computer enters hibernate and then instantly starts back up. I am able to turn the competer off completely but no luck with hibernate. System restore is failing to work also so I am not able to set the system back to an earlier state.
I am currently researching into upgrading the telecommunications scene in our house satrting with replacing my current router which is driving me insane. The signal strenght is totally erratic & it often wont reconnect to the internet after going into standby mode.
Belkin : Wireless G+ Modem Router
I am totally noob when it comes to wireless, do all routers produce basically the same strength signal? Are some more long range than others?
when my son plays, the monitor goes in saving mode, and we have to touch the mouse to regain the images again. I have latest drivers/update except SP1 because my Vista is in danish. How comes Vista does not detect activity?
When ever i leave my computer idled for a long time the monitors turn black and i can't do anything but shut it down and start it up again. When i shut it down it says "Out of range input 1" Then i turn it off again and this time it has an error saying Vista didn't start up correctly, then i hit "start windows normally" then i can do stuff. How do i wake it up without shutting it down.
I put this in another forum but I'm pretty sure it was the wrong one so here is my problem. Last night my power went out. Every time my power fails Vista will only start up in safe mode. If I try to start it normally it just goes right into "Power Save" mode. This has happened a handful of times, however it is usually an easy fix. I would just go into safe mode and run system restore and restore my system to a previous date. This however did not work last night. I can still boot up in safe mode. All of my files are still there.?
I've had issues in the past where I come to my computer after the monitor goes into power save mode and it won't turn back on. Knowing that my machine is locked I can just press CTRL-ALT-DEL, type my password to unlock it, and once it's unlocked the screen turns on. I can also use VNC to remote to my desktop and unlock it. The monitor does *not* turn on until after unlocking and re-opening the desktop. This didn't happen all the time, but fairly often, particularly when coming in in the morning. In the past I'd thought it was maybe due to UltraMon software that I'd installed to have different backgrounds on each of my monitors, but that has since been uninstalled.
This is becoming more of an issue now that we're pushing out power profiles to all of our machines however. Screens turn off after 5-10 minutes, so frequently when I come back to my desk I'll have this issue. I have a workaround, but I just received a report of another user having the same problem (though he's using XP Professional). I figured I'd try to resolve my issue first (since I have direct access to my PC; he's a remote user), then see if my fix takes care of his problem as well. I am running Vista Ultimate SP1 on a Dell Optiplex 745. The video card (Radeon X1300PRO) has a dual-head DVI cable connected to it running two Dell 1703FPs monitors.
Power Scheme-Sleep Mode I use Vista on my Dell PC and have my power settings set to turn off my monitor in 15 minutes and my PC in 20 minutes (sleep mode). When my PC enters the Sleep mode, it only stays in that mode a short time, usually three or so minutes at the maximum, then it activates and my monitor turns on. Is this normal for this power option? I would expect my PC to stay in the Sleep mode for a longer period of time, at least some of the time.
I'm not sure exactly where to post, but I been getting constant reboot after bringing my system out of suspend/hibernate or power saver mode. It just reboots like its about to post, but then goes back down. It does this over 'n over until I cut the power and kill the PSU. I did have my system OC'ed, but at the moment I'm currently running at default settings.
My laptop wont go into standby/sleep all of a sudden. I click the button, screen goes black, sound turns off but all the lights stay on and dont go into that "blinking" status as it used to. Even the HP logo on the outside is still it up when it used to turn off when going into Sleep/Standby. Does anyone have any ideas what could be causing this? I have no active programs running, just on the desktop, with no HDD access occurring.
Installed SP!. Had to go to work. Let it do it;s thing. Cam home, computer in standby, pushed button, upcame display. Right clicked on computer icon for properties. Damned rotating circle! After a while proprties did come up but nothing else would work. Had to power off via power button and power up again. I still think this is a piece of c-rap.
Usually people want to get their computer to go to sleep or get their keyboard to wake up from sleep. Well my problem is that all devices other than my keyboard are set NOT to wake computer up from sleep but when I sleep my keyboard automatically wakes it up.
Can anyone help me figure out why my keyboard keeps waking up my computer automatically. Its a Dell SK-8135. I just want to be able to send my computer to sleep and wake it with the keyboard under normal situations.
I just recently turned off my laptop by pressing the off button and not the proper way on the start menu ( I know I'm an idiot) and now it won't turn on or off. It is now a black screen and when I press the on button it blinks purple and then red. I am currently using my friend's computer to post this. Does anyone have any advice as to what I should do in order for it to wake up?
My wife's desktop machine is a HP a1730n running Vista Home Premium. After putting it in standby, after a short while, it comes back up to operation. Most of the time it does this but sometimes, it will go all night staying in standby. I asked this group about this and got the advice to go to advanced settings in Power Options and change the multimedia setting "when showing multimedia" to "allow the computer to sleep". This seemed to fix it for a short while and then it reverted back to not staying in standby. I am looking for some more advanced wisdom on this problem and hope for a solution!
Vista x64 SP2 with 500GB Seagate SATA HDD. I can resume from standby, but it can take up to 10 minutes for it to work again. I believe it's the HDD not waking up (powering up) immediately when it resumes (S3 Hybrid Sleep).
I want to transfer all my files ect onto a standby computer, to have a fallback onto the information contained in them. I was under the impression that the necessary software for the transfer and Synchronization was in Vista Windows, but having connected the computers with a transfer cable (which was installed as new hardware on both computers) nothing further happened although I was supposed to get instructions on the Standby computer how to proceed with the transfers.
Is there any way I can get my computer to go into standby or hibernate modes using Windows Vista. I've been to your web sites for help but I'm still not able to get standby or hibernate modes, in Windows XP there was never any kind of problem. My motherboard can use S1 or S3 setting but I've tired both setting and its just the same. The computer will start to go into hibernate mode for only five or six seconds then is will just restart.
Using my ISP (Roadrunner Carolinas) speed test site; I get around 200 to 400 kbps download speeds using IE in normal mode. If I boot to Safe Mode, I get around 3500 to 4500 kbps, which is what it should be (this is what I used to get in normal mode before I re-installed Vista). Running the same speed test with Firefox, I get around 1500 to 2000 kbps in normal mode, but if I try to download a file it ransfers at only the 200 to 400 kbsp rate (if I'm lucky). Here's more detail about the system and what I've done so far:
Installed all updates including SP2. Using Windows Firewall, no anti-virus. Updated network drivers directly from NVidia (Chipset is nForce750i) Updated graphics card drivers directly from NVidia Disabled all LAN protocols except for Client for Microsoft Networks and IPv4 Connected via ethernet cable directly to cable modem, no router. I've deliberately refrained from loading anything but the basics until I can get this sorted out..........
Whenever I go to save something, y'know right-click, save as... etc., there's an arrow to the right which will display the last ~20 files saved, ostensibly to make it easier to save files with similar names. (Incidentally there's extreme redundancy between that and auto-complete.) I would like to disable this feature, mostly because people are always snooping in my computer, as well as the fact that I'm always accidentally clicking it.
Of course, I can merely save many files in the same format to overwrite the one on the drop-down, but that doesn't really solve the problem of my accidental clicking.
I just bought a new Dell laptop running Vista and it is not letting me save anything to the c:drive. I've looked at all of the settings and can't figure out why.
When I try to save or browse for a file, nothing happens. When I click "Save as..." on a program, nothing happens. If I click "Browse" on a website, nothing happens. When I first got this computer, it worked fine. I don't know when the problem first arose.
I have received a few .tif attachments today that I can't open. I tried forwarding them to myself (didn't work) and saving them in a folder. The folder allowed me to open 2 out of 6 of them.
I use 'Computer' (use to be called Windows Explorer) a lot in Windows Vista Home Premium to manage my hard drive. It's a nuisance that it starts up as a too small window and I have to stretch it each time to see more. Is there a way to force it to memorize the previous state and restore?
When I am downloading a file, I can only open it,because choosing "save" just closes the box and nothing happens. Also, Icannot right click on a picture and choose "save as" because yet again nothing happens. Various other related bugs are happening too. At first I thought it was just an error with internet explorer buuuuuut, it also happens with non internet related applications such as the G.E.C.K.(Garden of Eden Creation Kit) for Fallout 3, when I edit, or create a modification, I click save, and guess what... nothing happens.
So I cannot save my work, or anything else. I can however print a page to a .xps document, and save stuff I paint in the Paint accessory. Why this only happens for some things, I dont know, but one thing is for sure. It annoys the hell out of me. I have tried thorough full virus scans, and turned up nothing, cleared internet explorer and windows temporary files, I have defragmented the hard disk(dont know how this would help, but im trying everything.) I have done pretty much anything known to man to figure this out, it is not working and kind of a major issue for me. It just started happening this week.
I have just purchased a new hard drive with Vista / Windows 7. I am a full time journalist and becasue I am so familiar with MS Office Word 2003 I had it loaded on my new drive. My trouble is after I save a Word file I alaways back it up on my external hard drive for saftey sake.
Whenever I attempt to do this now, however, I always get the dialogue box "This is a read only file". How do I get rid of this annoying, frustrating problem. I simply want to back up a word document on an external drive ... so why won't it let me do it. And why does it stipulate that it is a "Read only file" when I never saved it originally as such?
I want my new messages to come in at the bottom but everytime I open my email box it is back at the top again. It is most annoying. This just started happening since I replaced my hard drive. Is there some setting I am missing?
If I edit the file in notepad and try to save I get this message: "Cannot create the C:usersathandocumentshtmlfilename.html file. Make sure the path and filename are correct".
"Right-click on the Documents file and choose properties. Select customize Use this folder as template: All Items Apply this template to subfolders" This list a fix for when located in specific area but for myself these files are not located it the documents folder and this fix does not work. If you feel this post would be better served elsewhere (security, network sharing)
