when my son plays, the monitor goes in saving mode, and we have to touch the mouse to regain the images again. I have latest drivers/update except SP1 because my Vista is in danish. How comes Vista does not detect activity?
View 6 RepliesI added a second monitor to the GeForce 7100 GS using a DVI-VGA adapter and for the life of me cannot get it to display anything, the monitor is just in sleep mode. I've got the latest driver, Windows is up to date, checked the cables, tried another adapter, tried everything but, still nothing. The second monitor shows up in the device manager and in the Nvidia control panel. It's enabled and set to extend desktops. It seems the system knows it's there because I can move the mouse over, but cannot see anything. The power light on the second monitor just flashes. I've swapped monitors over, to make sure there's not a problem with the display and it's fine. When I do that, the main monitor is then plugged in to the DVI adapter and then that one goes to sleep. Just seems whichever monitor is plugged in to the DVI-VGA adapter just doesn't want to work........

When my computer its turned on and I leave eat(because eating and so) it goes to standby or power saving mode. And when I come back and move the mouse or pressing enter it will not start again!!? and the mouse, the keyboard, my external sound card and my monitor is not powered. its simply dead. (the power button on my computer (the harddisk) is blue and it means that the pc is turned on but the monitor is just going to sleep. To shut down and restart the pc I need to hold down the power button. After that I restart the pc by pressing power button again and all the thing works again and windows says: continues windows and then I am where it went to standby or power saving mode ?

View 8 Replies View RelatedIt seems for maybe the past couple of weeks it seems that sometimes the screen saver doesn't kick in.
When the time for the monitor just goes right to sleep it does. W/o the screensaver kicking in, or after it runs maybe a minute.
The odd thing is after I go and check the power settings, which all look fine, it works as it should. I have tried different screen savers as well as changes the timers. I don't know if this is from 1 numerous amt of MS updates or is there maybe a corrupt file or something.
I am trying to get my Samsung 2443bwx 24" into portrait mode. I have vista home premium 32 bit. Currently I have a 32" lcd as my main monitor and I have the 24" next to it. I have look thoughout the Display settings and see nothing . I am cpu n00b so nothing is really easy for me. Adapter type: Radeon x1300 Series dell dimension c521 amd atholn 64 processor 3800+ 2.40ghz 2046 mb ram if anybody knows what I will need to do to install a 3rd monitor please let me know. If I do this, it will be another samsung 24" and I will replace the 32" lcd with a samsung/dell 30"

I have 3 PC's hooked to the same keyboard/mouse/monitor through a KVM switch. I used to have a 19" CRT at 1280x1024. I would power up each PC at the same time and then log them in 1 by one switching the inputs. No worries on any of the PC's.
However since I got me new HP LP2475w 24" LCD monitor which likes to run at 1920x1200 I have been having issues. The PC that has the monitor active boots fine into 1920x1200 but the others boot into a 1600x1200 mode and make the screen offset. If I boot each one with the monitor active then there is no issues but it takes much longer as I have to wait for each one.
How can I force them to stay in the 1920x1200 mode that I have set in the display options?
I've had issues in the past where I come to my computer after the monitor goes into power save mode and it won't turn back on. Knowing that my machine is locked I can just press CTRL-ALT-DEL, type my password to unlock it, and once it's unlocked the screen turns on. I can also use VNC to remote to my desktop and unlock it. The monitor does *not* turn on until after unlocking and re-opening the desktop. This didn't happen all the time, but fairly often, particularly when coming in in the morning. In the past I'd thought it was maybe due to UltraMon software that I'd installed to have different backgrounds on each of my monitors, but that has since been uninstalled.
This is becoming more of an issue now that we're pushing out power profiles to all of our machines however. Screens turn off after 5-10 minutes, so frequently when I come back to my desk I'll have this issue. I have a workaround, but I just received a report of another user having the same problem (though he's using XP Professional). I figured I'd try to resolve my issue first (since I have direct access to my PC; he's a remote user), then see if my fix takes care of his problem as well. I am running Vista Ultimate SP1 on a Dell Optiplex 745. The video card (Radeon X1300PRO) has a dual-head DVI cable connected to it running two Dell 1703FPs monitors.

My computer freeze for 2-5 second, next is black screen for 2seconds(as monitor is shuted down) and next is black screen while i don't stop the game. View 9 Replies View Relatedi have only one monitor, and somehow it is being treat as though its the secondary monitor in a dual monitor set up. i cannot view my start menu, or view any programs being opened, as when i try to open them, they presumeably open on the phantom primary monitor. even when i try to open display settings, i cannot see the box. i am able to move my mouse to the left border of the screen and move it off into oblivion, and occasionally drag random folders and short cuts over to view.

I keep all my sidebar gadgets to the other monitor so I can monitor temps and system diagnostics. View 4 Replies View RelatedI can sucessfully load up the game and all however whenever i try to join a multiplayer game(says "Joining Server... then crashes" or finish loading a single player game(after the textures are loaded or the shaders it just crashes) OR whenever i click audio in settings my game(right after i click audio it just goes boom) just crashes back to desktop with the BF2142.exe error. I've read about many different crashes with other people but this seems different, people have had crashes during map changes, splash screen, and a few secs after joining the server, havent seen anyone with my problem of crashing when i see the "joining server.." box.
I've tried
1)reinstalling/repatching
2)run the exe as admin.
3)disable UAC and reinstall/repatch after restart
Im pretty sure my computer can handle the game, my old one did fine and this one owns it. Im kind of lost, I've tried many things and this freaking game just doesnt want to work.
I installed SS2 on this PC (runs windows vista home premium 32bit), but sadly the game won't run correctly. I've looked around a little bit, and I see that not watching the videos is a common problem. But that's not my main problem <:/ I can run the game just fine for about 30 seconds... suddenly, it just freezes. The last sound is looped, and the mouse is frozen.
View 7 Replies View RelatedUsing my ISP (Roadrunner Carolinas) speed test site; I get around 200 to 400 kbps download speeds using IE in normal mode. If I boot to Safe Mode, I get around 3500 to 4500 kbps, which is what it should be (this is what I used to get in normal mode before I re-installed Vista). Running the same speed test with Firefox, I get around 1500 to 2000 kbps in normal mode, but if I try to download a file it ransfers at only the 200 to 400 kbsp rate (if I'm lucky). Here's more detail about the system and what I've done so far:
Installed all updates including SP2.
Using Windows Firewall, no anti-virus.
Updated network drivers directly from NVidia (Chipset is nForce750i)
Updated graphics card drivers directly from NVidia
Disabled all LAN protocols except for Client for Microsoft Networks and IPv4
Connected via ethernet cable directly to cable modem, no router.
I've deliberately refrained from loading anything but the basics until I can get this sorted out..........
Whenever I go to save something, y'know right-click, save as... etc., there's an arrow to the right which will display the last ~20 files saved, ostensibly to make it easier to save files with similar names. (Incidentally there's extreme redundancy between that and auto-complete.) I would like to disable this feature, mostly because people are always snooping in my computer, as well as the fact that I'm always accidentally clicking it.
Of course, I can merely save many files in the same format to overwrite the one on the drop-down, but that doesn't really solve the problem of my accidental clicking.
I just bought a new Dell laptop running Vista and it is not letting me save anything to the c:drive. I've looked at all of the settings and can't figure out why.

I thought it was just an error with internet explorer buuuuuut, it also happens with non internet related applications such as the G.E.C.K.(Garden of Eden Creation Kit) for Fallout 3, when I edit, or create a modification, I click save, and guess what... nothing happens.
So I cannot save my work, or anything else. I can however print a page to a .xps document, and save stuff I paint in the Paint accessory. I have just purchased a new hard drive with Vista / Windows 7. I am a full time journalist and becasue I am so familiar with MS Office Word 2003 I had it loaded on my new drive. My trouble is after I save a Word file I alaways back it up on my external hard drive for saftey sake.
Whenever I attempt to do this now, however, I always get the dialogue box "This is a read only file". How do I get rid of this annoying, frustrating problem. I simply want to back up a word document on an external drive ... so why won't it let me do it. And why does it stipulate that it is a "Read only file" when I never saved it originally as such?
I want my new messages to come in at the bottom but everytime I open my email box it is back at the top again. It is most annoying. This just started happening since I replaced my hard drive. Is there some setting I am missing?

"Right-click on the Documents file and choose properties. Select customize Use this folder as template: All Items Apply this template to subfolders" This list a fix for when located in specific area but for myself these files are not located it the documents folder and this fix does not work. If you feel this post would be better served elsewhere (security, network sharing)
I don't want to delete my pics, but I don't want them in the gallery anymore. Help tells me to right click on a folder and then choose "remove from gallery." I don't have this option.

I've set the folder options to "Remember folder views" and it still doesn't save. It's not a big deal, just really annoying, because the way I organize everything is much easier to access, then randomly, windows resets the folder view...

Each time for instance I go to Bank of America I have to put in all my login info again. Same with TV guide.will not remember my zip code, although it's supposed to. Is there some sort of setting I should have checked or something? It's really getting annoying to have to put in the same info time after time.

Recently a CD with very important files on it developed a fault, which resulted in the CD showing empty. The whole idea of saving files is that if my computer crashes (as it did, so that I had to reinstall Windows loosing all my data) I will still have all my files on the CDs, but if these fail as well how else can I save the Files?
