Power Saving Mode: Battery Last Longer
Jan 5, 2009
At the moment my fully charged HP dv9000 battery only lasts about 1 hour, and thats when its in power saving mode, screen closed and only playing winamp. I've been through all the advanced power saving options to try fully make optimal use of my battery power. Is there any software or any particular method to make my laptop battery last longer?

I have a computer which runs Windows Vista 32 bit and I have a problem with it. When my computer its turned on and I leave eat(because eating and so) it goes to standby or power saving mode. And when I come back and move the mouse or pressing enter it will not start again!!? and the mouse, the keyboard, my external sound card and my monitor is not powered. its simply dead. (the power button on my computer (the harddisk) is blue and it means that the pc is turned on but the monitor is just going to sleep. To shut down and restart the pc I need to hold down the power button. After that I restart the pc by pressing power button again and all the thing works again and windows says: continues windows and then I am where it went to standby or power saving mode ?

On my Acer lapto, vista battery status shows it is 100% charged, but only 30 minutes working time remains. The working mode has been set to 'balanced', but even changing it to 'power save' it only gains a couple of minutes.
I have my laptop for almost a year. Is it normal that the battery practically used up within a year? Or is perhaps something else wrong here? In the beginning it could almost last 3 hours. But with only 30 minutes you can't get any work done.

I'm looking for presice advanced power options spesifications. For instance, I wanna know exactly what the attr. for "Wireless Adapter Settings>Powers Saving Mode>Maximum Power Saving" are. Anyone here know where I might find something like that? I tryed googel'ing it, but I didn't find anything relevant. One more thing, since I'm on the subject, does the power settings for "plugged in" affect the life span of the battery in any way? I'm thinking, since you can use "Maximum Power Saving" on "Plugged in". Who would wanna do that? And what would be the point?'

I am new to Windows and am running Vista on an Apple MacBookPro. The problem I have is that Vista thinks the machine is running on battery power when the ac power supply is plugged in! However, the battery never runs down. If I take the battery out I knows it is running on ac power!

My computer is no longer saving my login info. For This forum, other forums I frequent.my yahoo email I set to keep logged in for 2 weeks since I'm the only user on my PC. With my bank, my redbox account, myspace, paypal, all those I only have it save my user name and I enter the password. but it's no longer saving anything.. EVERY time I open FF and go somewhere. it's not saved. I'm even having to answer secret questions and stuff on my bank. I'm not sure if this is a Vista problem, or a Fire Fox 3 Problem. Maybe I should upgrade to FF 3.3 or whatever there update is. (or it might have automatically).

The last set of updates I did SP2 and all the ones that came with it seemed to have changed something in the sleep mode. When I put my HP to sleep at night, it seems that the battery backup is lost. I know this because when I wake the computer in the AM, it says that the computer lost communion with the battery backup and then says very quickly that it has been restored! My concern is that if we have a storm and the battery backup is not working right then it won't allow me to safely shut down the computer!

I have an Acer laptop with Vista (SP1). Recently I have noticed the power icon no longer displays in the notification area. If I go to Taskbar and Start Menu Properties, Notification Area tab, the Power check box is grayed out and not checked. This may have happened as a result of installing SP1, which I did two weeks ago, but I am not sure. I did not notice this until three days ago.
I have tried a registry edit I found online (deleting any keys regarding "iconstreams"), but this did not help.

I'm on a Toshiba Satellite that's worked fairly well except for a few self-repaired hiccups. However, about a week ago my power management plans suddenly stopped working. I can switch from different plans that change how quickly my display turns off, but my screen has been stuck at the lowest brightness possible for a while now. It has nothing to do with the plans themselves, I've restored all to their default settings and still no change in brightness when I switch between all of them. The little slider to adjust
brightness simply does not appear anymore. I can't find what exactly it is that's malfunctioning to reinstall, as no power management driver appeared on my disk from Toshiba. Can anyone provide an explanation or perhaps a link to repair this?

I put this in another forum but I'm pretty sure it was the wrong one so here is my problem. Last night my power went out. Every time my power fails Vista will only start up in safe mode. If I try to start it normally it just goes right into "Power Save" mode. This has happened a handful of times, however it is usually an easy fix. I would just go into safe mode and run system restore and restore my system to a previous date. This however did not work last night. I can still boot up in safe mode. All of my files are still there.?

I've had issues in the past where I come to my computer after the monitor goes into power save mode and it won't turn back on. Knowing that my machine is locked I can just press CTRL-ALT-DEL, type my password to unlock it, and once it's unlocked the screen turns on. I can also use VNC to remote to my desktop and unlock it. The monitor does *not* turn on until after unlocking and re-opening the desktop. This didn't happen all the time, but fairly often, particularly when coming in in the morning. In the past I'd thought it was maybe due to UltraMon software that I'd installed to have different backgrounds on each of my monitors, but that has since been uninstalled.
This is becoming more of an issue now that we're pushing out power profiles to all of our machines however. Screens turn off after 5-10 minutes, so frequently when I come back to my desk I'll have this issue. I have a workaround, but I just received a report of another user having the same problem (though he's using XP Professional). I figured I'd try to resolve my issue first (since I have direct access to my PC; he's a remote user), then see if my fix takes care of his problem as well. I am running Vista Ultimate SP1 on a Dell Optiplex 745. The video card (Radeon X1300PRO) has a dual-head DVI cable connected to it running two Dell 1703FPs monitors.

Power Scheme-Sleep Mode I use Vista on my Dell PC and have my power settings set to turn off my monitor in 15 minutes and my PC in 20 minutes (sleep mode). When my PC enters the Sleep mode, it only stays in that mode a short time, usually three or so minutes at the maximum, then it activates and my monitor turns on. Is this normal for this power option? I would expect my PC to stay in the Sleep
mode for a longer period of time, at least some of the time.

I'm not sure exactly where to post, but I been getting constant reboot after bringing my system out of suspend/hibernate or power saver mode. It just reboots like its about to post, but then goes back down. It does this over 'n over until I cut the power and kill the PSU. I did have my system OC'ed, but at the moment I'm currently running at default settings.

Using my ISP (Roadrunner Carolinas) speed test site; I get around 200 to 400 kbps download speeds using IE in normal mode. If I boot to Safe Mode, I get around 3500 to 4500 kbps, which is what it should be (this is what I used to get in normal mode before I re-installed Vista). Running the same speed test with Firefox, I get around 1500 to 2000 kbps in normal mode, but if I try to download a file it ransfers at only the 200 to 400 kbsp rate (if I'm lucky). Here's more detail about the system and what I've done so far:
Installed all updates including SP2.
Using Windows Firewall, no anti-virus.
Updated network drivers directly from NVidia (Chipset is nForce750i)
Updated graphics card drivers directly from NVidia
Disabled all LAN protocols except for Client for Microsoft Networks and IPv4
Connected via ethernet cable directly to cable modem, no router.
I've deliberately refrained from loading anything but the basics until I can get this sorted out..........

I have downloaded a program called battery bar that shows how much energy is left. This has disabled the option to show the 'Power' meter in the taskbar. see pics below: i want the windows power meter back, but there is no uninstalling option in the battery bar file documents, or in add or remove programs. i have tried revo uninstaller (which also has no option to uninstall from main tab), tried hunter mode, pointed the target at the bar, and it says there is no uninstall program. I can't delete battery bar unless i recycle the battery bar file and its contents, which still leaves the windows power meter 'greyed' out.

(My laptop is a Dell Inspiron E1505 w/ Windows Vista Ultimate)Vista states that no battery was detected, yet i have one inserted. I've tried pulling it out and putting it back in, even the BIOS settings detect no battery. When I remove the power cable, it still runs off battery, but the battery light turns red. Also, I am trying to upgrade my BIOS and as a requirement, you must have your computer connected to the battery AND to the charger

I'm going to be sitting on an airplane for too many hours. I'd like to watch some videos on the laptop and am wondering the best way to maximize battery life. Which uses the least power?
- Playing the DVD in the DVD drive
- Ripping the DVD to the hard drive and playing it from there (if I have enough free disk space)
- Ripping the DVD to an external hard drive and playing it from there
- Ripping the DVD to a big memory key and playing it from there

I have HP NW8000 laptop running Vista Ultimate. I installed SP1 a few days ago. After the upgrade, the battery is not charging anymore. Right now it is completely drained out and it says 0% available plugged in, not charging. I uninstalled the Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery drivers (there were two) from the Device Manager and install them again with scan for hardware changes. I tried unplugging and plugging the battery back but nothing helps. The can't get the battery to charge. What gives?

I've baught a notebook pc. It has T8300 CPU, and Intel GMA 3100 Graphics. The battery has for cells and it says its capacity is 2400mAh. With Windows Vista x64, I did some normal tasks such as surfing the internet a little and some file copying, application installing. But the big problem is the battery life. After fully charged the battery, I could only use about 1 hour and half. I've searched the internet and found that the main culprit is the Aero interface. So, I guess, using Vista Basic when in battery mode, and Aero when in A.C. mode would be more reasonable. Manually changing between them in "Personalization -> Show classic..." is quite a task. Is there any easier way? How do you save battery?

I'm running Windows Vista on a Gateway NX570X laptop. About a year after I bought it, it slid off the table and bent the connecter for the original AC adapter, so I bought a new adapter online. It's an off-brand adapter, but the voltage outputs and inputs are the same as my old adapter, and it charged the battery fine for about two months. Then the battery started charging halfway and then less and less until finally it reached 0% available (plugged in, not charging). Now, this still wasn't an immediate problem for me because my laptop is stationary most of the time; however, since last October the adapter has had to be plugged in at a certain angle or it won't power the laptop at all, and now it has taken to shutting off randomly or whenever the connecter is nudged. Highlights:
* Gateway NX570X laptop with Windows Vista
* Off-brand AC adapter worked for about two months before malfunctions began
* Battery life reads 0% available (plugged in, not charging)
* Adapter must be inserted into the laptop at just the right angle to turn it on
* Computer shuts down randomly, ranging between minutes, hours, and days after starting it up

I'm a very capable user running a Dell E1505 here. The battery lasted less than a year, and then I replaced it with a brand new battery. This has been in there for at most a month now. The past two days I have had an interesting situation going on. The computer is running Vista Home Premium, and it's running on AC. The battery seems to be working fine. It's detected fine, the PC runs off of the battery, and it charges as well. It's not set to suspend, hibernate, or anything like that at any time; these features are all deactivated because I am never in a situation to use them.
However, for the past few days, I have closed the lid and then gone to sleep at night, but when I have opened it up the next morning, I have the red X icon that says the battery is not detected. I've unseated the battery and clicked it back in each time, and it is immediately recognized and operates completely normally as described above after that.
The first time that this happened, I thought it may just have been some odd thing as can happen now and then with computers, and I ignored it. I went through my day using the E1505 as usual: leaving it unattended for minutes or hours while doing other things, closing the lid before going to the store, opening the lid again, etc., and it worked fine. However, when I awoke this morning the X was there with the no battery message. I again unseated and reseated the battery, and all seems normal.

got a Lenovo X61t laptop/tablet with built-in SD card reader and I'm using the reader mainly with a 4G sdhc for readyboost. Often readyboost decides to reorder/refresh the cache with lots of SATA drive activity for 5 minutes or so. On AC this is fine. But it also happens on battery which is drains the battery faster. So is there any method (say, even some 3rd party prog) to conditionally tell readyboost not to refresh cache while on battery?
