The User Profile Service Service Failed The Login

Jan 24, 2010

I have the following error message when trying to login to vista on my laptop:

The User Profile Service service failed the login.

User profile cannot be loaded.

Just before the problem happened I was working to remove the Anti Virus Live virus from my laptop via the techsupportforum.com forum.

Two things I did within the hour of the problem happening are:

1. I ran the malware removal program OTL

See step 5 at (http://tinyurl.com/pr92qn)

2. I cleared and set system restore's cash-

as instructed in post#23 on my techsupportforum.com thread

(Anti Virus Live on my Laptop - Page 2 - Tech Support Forum)

Further details-I can and am able to login to Safe Mode I do not have a program called System Restore in the System Tools folder In Safe Mode I was able to change my password, but in normal mode I get the same error message I did windows updates and then tried to remove some of those updates, with only a few files that wouldn't allow me to delete them. Thank you for visiting my thread. If anyone has any ideas on how I can fix my problem it would be great to hear about them.

Windows Search Service And Indexing Service Do Not Work

Jul 23, 2007

Also my Windows Search service does not start. When I try to start it, I get these errors in the event log:

1. "The Windows Search Service cannot open the Jet property store.

The content index server cannot update or access information because of a database error. Stop and restart the search service. If the problem persists, reset and recrawl the content index. In some cases it may be necessary to delete and recreate the content index. (0x8004117f)"

2. "The Windows Search Service has failed to created the new system catalog. Internal error <4,0x8004117f>."

I'm totally lost as how to solve this problem. I spent hours on the web trying to find a solution, with no luck sofar. Anyone here who has a clue how to solve this one?

Hang- And Hang And Hang

Jun 22, 2009

A mate presented me with his Vista laptop, running home premium. It was stuck in the installing stage 3 of 3 loop.Under no circumstances was I to kill vista and start again. He had lost the copies of some of the programs. I used the recovery console to rename the pending.xml file. The machine rebooted correctly.I decided to run the windows update and it hung.I forced a reboot and ran sfc, it reported that there are 3 errors that it can not resolve- this seems to be common!I installed malware bytes and told it to run, after 10 mins it hung again.I told avast to scan at start up, went to bed and woke up in the morning to find the laptop hanging on the frozen login page- I am assuming that avast found nothing as it is set to prompt for action by default.I decided to try disk clean up and discovered that Vista falsely claims that the event logs are 99.1 gb!I told it to delete virtually everything but again it hangs.

Service That Fails To Start (Bonjour Service)

Apr 16, 2008

I use Vista Ultimate 64.

For the past few weeks I've been having an issue with an Apple made service called "Bonjour Service". That service is used in several pieces of software including iTunes (which I do not use) but also some Adobe applications (Version Cue for example) and the font management utility I use which is Extensis Suitcase 11.0.1 for Windows.

Both Version Cue and Suitcase depend on the Bonjour Service to work and I have had no issues with it for months but recently, the Bonjour Service stopped working and would not start anymore. It now gives this error message when trying to start it:

"('Bonjour Service' failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services."

My user account is an admin account so privileges is not an issue. I had made no changes to my system myself before the Bonjour service began to "refuse" starting but I remember that I installed a few Windows updates a couple days prior. My machine is always on and I don't re-boot everyday.

So I was wondering if anyone has heard of the issue and knows how I might fix it or if anyone can give me pointers on how I my start trouble shooting this and find what started preventing the Bonjour Service from starting. FWIW, the Windows Firewall is already off and turning off my anti-virus doesn't help (Eset NOD32).

Hang On Start Up

Jun 6, 2009

I have a Windows Vista PC from a friend to look at, that goes through the DOS start up and get to the bar going across with Microsoft corporation underneath it and if the PC has been off for some time, is just hangs there. I can load in safe mode and also last good configuration etc, no problems. Someone had tried to update the AVG Free Antivirus and it was shortly after this that the problem occurred, I managed to sort out the AVG, but the above problem remains.

I did some searches for problems, and it came up with a Nero...exe problem, which when I checked this, it told me it was nothing to do with Nero Burning software, so I stopped it from loading. But the start up problem remains. is there a problem with Vista, trying to install updates on boot up?

Hang Ups While Initializing

Apr 14, 2008

when starting up my HP Media Center PC (2.4 Ghz with 4MEG Ram, Vista Home Premium with SP1), started my account. Once I started...the screen would come up and the task bar would come up, but then the system hangs. Tried to use a different restore point and no dice. Cleaned up disk drive in safe mode, but won't let me defrag. No error messages, nothing, just hangs up and stays there.

Pc Hang After Every 5 Seconds

Nov 3, 2008

I have just bulit myself a new Pc and have discovered quite possibly the most rustrating issue i have ever come across trying to fix. This problem is very inconsistant and happens randomly, My pc will hang about every 5 seconds for about a second, when i say hang i mean both video and sound lockup then return to normal. when trying to navigate around on the net via google for answers this makes things difficult. I have done some deeper digging and found a svchost.exe chewing up about 100 mb of RAM but am not sure if this is the source of my problem. One other thing i use is a DLink Wireless Lan adapter via USB.

Compression Of C: Cause A Hang Of Windows 64?

Apr 21, 2008

Can the compression of the drive c: cause a hang of Windows Vista 64 when I try to unlock Windows Vista 64 in about 8 hours of its being locked? The Windows uploaded through BitTorrent when it was locked. The Windows Vista 64 does not hang if it has been locked less than 3 hours. The Windows Vista 64 did not hang before I compressed the drive c: to save disk space.

Downloads Stop/hang At 99%

Aug 22, 2009

I have been noticing lately that I can't download anything! I've tried Rapidshare files, simple stuff like Adobe Reader (just to test,) etc. No matter what happens, the dialogue box (for downloading) stops at 99%, leaving me the only option to "cancel" the download!

Does anyone else know what could possibly cause this? Is it software I'm already running that it's conflicting with, like iTunes or Trend Micro Internet Security? I'd sure like to do more computing than writing simple emails... I'd like to download again.

No Activity And System Hang

Dec 10, 2008

I have been having this error for the last couple days. Every 10 to 20 seconds the system just seems to "hang". It sits there for 2 or 3 seconds, then resumes normally. Ive checked memory. IT is good. I then ran performance monitoring and it shows up to 45 hard faults per SECOND. I then watched the hard drive activity lamp. When the system hangs there is no activity. as soon as it unhangs there is a flurry of activity lasting a couple seconds. Its like it has to go to the hard drive cache for everything.

Upon checking the virtual memory it is set on automatically manage paging file size. it says minimum 16 mb, recommended 3067, and currently allocated 2345 mb. This all seemed to start after loading GTA 4 which recommended 2.5 g memory and i only have 2 g memory. could it have screwed up my paging file?

Add Shortcut, Hang Computer

Oct 14, 2009

if you add a shortcut (to a networked computer, so you can copy files),if its off, it'll hang computer. I thought the prob was because I've got an internal card reader. So, I put an entry in the registry to hide them. BUT this didnt fix the hanging (thats how I found out having the computer off (the one I added under sendto as a shortcut, causes it). So, how would you fix this, without removuing the shortcut to the networked computer?

IE To Freeze, Hang And Not Respond

Nov 19, 2008

Posted this in the IE newsgroup. Thought I'd put it here too, and see if anyone has thoughts? Noticing a rash of users in this forum discuss how IE 7 is suddenly freezing, not responding or not working in recent weeks. Problem seems most common on Vista, but appears on XP, too. Getting the same problem myself on both a Dell desktop and Compaq laptop running Vista SP1. Problem often appears when using multiple tabs in IE and/or when closing the IE window. Flash 9 caused freezes too, but it appears more common with Flash 10. Sometimes the freezes are blatant -- and result in a pop-up error. Other times the freezes are over in a second or two -- and you only see the error if you check Vista's Performance monitoring tools. And it's not just IE. Users are reporting freezes with other browsers like Firefox and Safari.................

Tracking Down Cause Of Creeping System Hang

Apr 16, 2010

I have been seeing at possibly random moments a "creeping" system lock/freeze/hang (I have seen it especially just before the clean install in the original installation). It might start--but not always---with a mouse click to bring focus to an UltraEdit document. I get a "Not Responding", wait for the disk drive light to stop its continuous illumination. And when it does stop illuminating, I still see "Not Responding" and know I am in trouble.

I then start activating other windows, and they start showing "Not Responding". I know I am in real trouble when I do Ctrl+Shift+Esc to get the Task Manager and it never appears; I do this to try to track the nature of the creeping system hang...no luck. The Start menu will open on a click, but nothing else happens. The mouse pointer is still moving around, but nothing is responding to click. What could be at work here? How can I track the cause of the creeping hang?...............

File Server Hang Network

Aug 21, 2008

The problem is this: the file server will randomly seem to crash (hang) the network when the other machines are accessing it. This is more noticable with the XP machines, where the hang will cause explorer to crash, whereas the Vista machines accessing it will simply not connect. Occasionally the file server appears to reconnect after an hour or so, but mostly it will require a restart to get it back on the network and functioning correctly. I have had a look around at various forums, including this one, but have not seen this exact problem. I have tried solutions for other related problems, such as disabling IPv6, but this does still not seem to have solved the problem. Any ideas would be most welcome - obviously having to restart all the machines in the office a couple of times a day can be a bit of a pain!

Downloads Hang At 99% Internet Explorer (!)

Nov 13, 2009

I'm still a bit of a n00b here... but, I've found resolution to an age-old problem! In Internet Explorer, sometimes Vista (and Vista x64, of course) users experience downloads hanging at 99%, or, the green progress bar in the dialogue box freezes at 99%. It can take 2 hours to an entire day for it to finish, or maybe not at all! I've experienced this several times through several reformats. in my case, it was because of installing Layered Service Provider (LSP)-related sofware which corrupted my browser for some reason. I only know that as soon as that went active on my PC, that's when the browser failed. Either way, here's how to solve it! It's "Temporary Internet Files"-related!

1.) Even-if you have hidden folders & files-view set to YES, you still can't access the right folder.
2.) From Control Panel --- Internet Options, do the following:
3.) On Browser History, you'll see a DELETE & SETTINGS tab. Click SETTINGS.
4.) You'll now see "MOVE FOLDER," "VIEW OBJECTS," and "VIEW FILES." Click "View Files."
5.) Typically, in Vista (also x64, it doesn't matter,) you'll see a PREVIEW PANE on the left-hand side of Windows Explorer! That should show the tree of folders leading to "Temporary Internet Files." ......

Analyze CBS Log, Wireless Network Manager Hang

Sep 5, 2009

I am just recovering from several viruses that were found by ad-aware, avg and spy doctor. I took evasive action and tried to clean things up but it kept coming back. Luckily I have Fedora on my machine as well and I swicthed over and used clamav and fpscan (i think) to sort things out. I think everything is complelty fine now since no more messages from any of my windows software telling me my machine is infected.

However, I think I have deleted core files that Vista needs. I have noticed it takes a long time to turn my machine off. I have to hit the power button to turn it off! Also when I open up my wireless network manager it hangs and doesn't even come up. I am able to use the office suite and all my browsers.

Long story short, someone told me to scan my vista machine using vista utility and I have a CBS log which is telling me that some things are corrupt. I need help deciphering it. It is 33MB - wtf? I just had a look. I have no run a Code: findstr /c:"[SR]" %windir%logscbscbs.log >sfcdetails.txt Not sure what this does to be honest.

Restore Point: Windows Explorer Hang/Not Responding

Aug 30, 2009

when I right Clicked a short cut, file or folder within Windows Explorer. It caused Windows Explorer to Hang/Not responding. Then Idecided to do an update to the Vista, so I ran the Upda5te option. My problem of right clicking appeared again? I went back into Safe Mode to find and re-do the System Restor from Sept 24th and it no longer exist? the select older than 5 days was grayed out.

I did not delete or do anything (that I'm aware of) to remove it. It was the last one on the list. Was it deleted automatically due to storage size allowed? In any case, is there a way to get it back? I need to fix this problem - of right clicking something and having Windows Explorer hang/not repond. Do I have to do a Vista Repair from my DVDs to get rid of the problem?
