View 4 Repliescan you tell me a way to uninstall Call of Duty other than through putting in the disk and pressing UNINSTALL or in the 'All Programs'? Because it just won't uninstall there: I press install and the window simply closes and nothing else. I am asking this because I have found some patches on the Activision website (now I can get on it again) and I wan't to reinstall it...

I was having problems installing a program (Berlitz German Premier) where the install would just disappear halfway thru the process. A program would not appear under my programs list but when I went to Uninstall an icon for uninstall of the Berlitz software appears for each time I tried to install it. However I get the following error messages (see attached document with screen captures) when I tried to delete it the traditional way.
When I use Windows Install Clean Up utility, the program is nowhere to be found on the list; thus I can't use that program.

I have two user accounts on my home PC. It's Vista Home Premium.
I am administrator on my PC. When I check my user account, it confirms this.
However, when I try, thru a CMD prompt, to do ipconfig /flushdns, I get an error message saying "The requested operation requires elevation."
The prompt is C:UsersBruce which implies I'm not the administrator.
How do I get to the right place to clear the DNS? It's causing me some trouble.
I'm on a home wireless network, just my notebook and the wireless router (attached to a cable modem).
my OS is Vista Ultimate, and I get IP from dhcp server to connect Internet I mean my IP is like 10.x.x.x. When I was using XP, If I use ipconfig/release & ipconfig/renew, then I can get a new IP from dhcp. But now, the method above can't refresh my dynamic IP address. If I want to change my IP address, I must first set a static IP and connect to gateway then disable my ethernet adapter, cancel the static IP and use dhcp again. Finally, MAYBE I can get a new IP. Even I reboot or shut down my computer for a whole day. When my computer gets to dhcp server if there isn't any other computer is USING my IP then I can't get a new one. I want to know, How can I refresh my IP address easily under Vista?
View 5 Replies View RelatedSomehow the 'uninstall' button disappeared for most programs on my Vista Home Premium box when I used Control Pannel -> Programs -> Uninstall a Program. A few programs still have 'uninstall' button available - those have 'installed on' showing. The rest (80+% of all)don't have 'installed on' values showing and don't have 'uninstall' button.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a desktop Win XP Sp3) and a notebook (Win Vista x64 Sp1) and an HP C6280 printer working through a router. Both computers will print just fine but after I turn the printer on after being down, the Vista machine lists the the printer as offline and I can't get it to 'refresh' to see that the printer is on. Documents just sit in the queue. Nothing seems to work short of uninstall/install.

Then, all of a sudden they will refresh. It's fairly quick when it happens, but is this normal? It happens on every boot. I have thirteen desktop icons counting the recycle bin. Can someone at least tell me if their Vista 64 OS does the same?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI am experiencing a strange power problem with my monitors. I have two, each hooked up to a Radeon HD 800 series video card with dual DVI connectors. The problem is this: When I have my computer working as normal, if I switch off my secondary monitor, and then switch it back on, my primary monitor's display garbles and goes out for a second until my secondary monitor is back on. Also, anything that was displaying on my secondary monitor does not refresh and I can not access those programs. Does anyone know what is wrong and how to fix this?

View 6 Replies View RelatedWhile everyone was expecting a public RC of the Wave 3 applications last week, a beta refresh made it out this week over at download.live.com. Windows Live Essentials, which refers to the suite of Windows Live client applications (as opposed to web services), consists of a long list of software: Messenger, Mail, Photo Gallery, Movie Maker, Writer, Toolbar, Family Safety, and Office Outlook Connector (which is mysteriously missing in this release). This release includes two new additions, Office Live Add-in (which allows you to open and save documents directly to your online workspace) as well as Silverlight.

I've been reading around for quite a while now, looking for an answer to my problem with no luck in sight (so far). I've recently upgraded to Vista using a dual boot setup with XP. I have a 42" Sharp Aquous (1080p) display through DVI-HDMI. In Windows XP, using the default "Plug and Play Monitor" driver, I'm able to use 75Hz or 85Hz at 1920x1080 (which the monitor does support). In Vista however, with the "generic pnp monitor" driver, it won't allow anything other than 60Hz, regardless of the 'hide modes' check box. Now, some people would say that 60Hz should be fine for an LCD monitor, but here's the problem. With 60Hz, for some reason, the actual screen display size is somewhat smaller than the actual screen size (about a 1-1/2" border all around) which was the case in XP as well (issue with the sharp display i suppose). In 30Hz, the display size is perfect (just as in 75 or 85Hz), but at 30 it becomes very blurry and terrible with any motion on the screen. So basically, I can only use this monitor at either 75 or 85Hz.
This has to be a Vista OS problem (and not at fault by the ATI display drivers). I've read that some people have had similar problems with their CRT monitors as well. Some have suggested using refresh rate forcing programs, but since they were all made for XP, none of them work in vista (I've tried reforce, refreshlock, pstrip and reschange). how to remove the 60Hz cap, or make a custom monitor driver that will allow it?
PC: HP Windows Media Center PC m8200n; Monitor HP w1907. November 2007. OS: Windows Vista Home Premium. HP: Deskjet F4180. So I noticed that the printer icon for my printer became all white, IE a corrupted icon. So I went online and found information on how to refresh your icon folder. That didn't do anything. So I thought I'd uninstall and reinstall.
I have tried to reinstall my HP software from disc, and I get a 'new PSSWCORE.msi' file. I see the file on the install disc, yet it won't install. 'Network resource is unavailable.'
Now I cannot uninstall it. On my Add/Remove I see:
HP Customer Participation Program 9.0
HP All In One Software 9.0
HP Imaging device Functions 9.0
HP On-Screen Cap/Num/Scroll Lock Indicator
HP Photosmart Essential
HP Update
How can I get these off my PC, and reinstall cleanly so I can use my rinter/scanner again?
I am having a very anoying bug with vista! every 15 seconds my windows flash, and when i try and rename a file the flash causes the window to "refresh" and stops me from renaming the file or folder... has anyone else experienced this? I have tried all the official and miscrosoft published instructions on uninstalling SP2 Release Candidate for Vista Ultimate (in my case 32 bit). I have tried with tech support. So I have really gone the extra mile. I have very compelling reasons to not perform a new installation because of lost set up programs and keys which are essential to my business. I do have backups which go back before the SP2 installation (Release candidate). Is there no way or does anyone have knowlege of maybe just the directories or files I would need to reinstall; to uninstall RC 2 for Vista ?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI downloaded Vista x64 with built in sp2 RC. I have an msdn membership, and I put this on my laptop. It now says I have an eval copy. I understand that sp2 makes it say that, but my big question is that there is no way to uninstall sp2. Am I screwed when the final sp2 comes out? I understand you need to install previous betas to put final on.

long product key and wait for the online activation every time. really annoying. i tried almost everything uninstalling the update and many computer recovery tries but after uninstalling the update for like 1/2 - 1 h and restarting (without a activation needed) i tells me, sp1 was not uninstalled...............
I was having so much trouble with IE loading (it took minutes not seconds) that I switched to Foxfire in the summer. However I still have to use IE for certain client sites. It was taking forever to load but then seemed OK. Now not only does it take several minutes to load it also has a very slow response time when I click on anything. Sometimes I have to click on a web page menu item twice just to get it to recognize I clicked. It's not my mouse/touchpad. It's not my internet connection (blazing fast on another). I have tried so many tools/checkers. I've deleted cookies, files, history. I've deselected all add-ons. Just to click on HOME takes forever to be recognized that I even selected it. It gets worse. I can't even uninstall IE7. It's not under the control panel as a program OR not listed as a an update. I've tried going to MS website to try a fresh download but can only get a download for XP (I have Vista). Does anyone have any links?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have been having problems opening attachments on my both my IE email and hotmail accounts. Have been putting off the problem because my life has been too busy to really deal with it. However after taking my head out of the sand I am desperately trying to figure out what is going on. I have read a gazillion (give or take a few) discussions about this. I have tried to download another browser however I find that I can not download anything. It goes through the motions but I can never find anything on my computer even after doing a search. Some say it is IE8 and to uninstall this. I have looked and can not find any place to uninstall IE8..if in fact that is what I have. Everything I see just says IE..no number after it.
View 4 Replies View RelatedRecently I had a pretty bad virus on my computer. I sent it to someone and he removed various trojans and installed his recommended virus-protection softwares on it. It's not a result of him doing anything to it, as it was happening before, I assume as a result of the virus, but now when I log on, after typing in my password, it displays the 'welcome' loading screen for a ridiculously long time (about a minute), but then the screen goes completely black and all I see is my pointer. After another minute or two it actually loads the desktop.
Then there's Fraps and some other programs, which, before the virus, opened fine, but now asks for admin permission in order to open. What's even stranger is that it can't uninstall. When I start the uninstall process it just opens the 'uninstall' window and gets stuck there. My computer also seems to be slower than usual. Everything seems so messed up, should I just totally wipe my hard drive and reinstall everything? Most of my files are stored through Steam, which is mainly online, so I only have about 10 gigabytes of saved files to back up...
I loaded up a brand new install yesterday and installed all of this in the following order. I let windows install SP1 thru windows updates online. I normally use the 700+mb vistax64wave0.exe (5 language offline installer package). Everything was working fantastic with this, until...The very last thing I installed after everything SP1 + All windows updates were completely done was DirectX Aug 2008 Redist. Now my system is sluggish and my games run very slow and produce mouse lag which didn't exist until I installed this. My thoughts on this was, hey newer drivers and fixes are always better right? WRONG! What a nightmare every since I installed this directx aug 2008 redist. I need to know how to remove DX9, so I can use the web updater without affecting the DX10 aspect of the vista OS. Something that was packaged inside of the redist has caused me major software conflicts. I only updated directx for gaming, is it even worth it to update directx?

They tell me to uninstall from the control panel. ie go to START,CONTROL PANEL,PROGRAMS etc. so i've highlighted it in the list-normally i would just click UNINSTALL but they tell me to only use the copy/paste method.
