about a week ago my screen on my 6 month old laptop started looking stretched horizontally, I swear I didn't change any settings and have looked at the DPI and resolution to see whether that helps. Everything just looks wider and slightly out of focus, I'd really love it to be back to normal!

I've checked and General is "normal" and boot is not ticked.I get about 15 secs of blackness, 5 secs of progress bar at the bottom,another 10 secs of blackness and then Vista.If I tick no gui in boot, I get "aurora" for the whole duration with no progress bar.
my computer crash,and now all i get is a black screen which read the primary ide master hard drive self monitoring system has reported a parameter has exceeded it normal range.

View 5 Replies View Relatedwhile I was playing my computer suddenly restarted but it wasnīt a normal restart cuz the screen just went black and nothing happened, after waiting several minutes I had to shut it down. When I turned it on nothing happened again and my screen went black so I kept trying to restart it andfinally after some attempts I got it to start but while it was loading vista a blue screen appeared and it restarted again. So I managed to restart it on safe mode and I got this blue screen again and a restart. This time the restart was worst cuz it wonīt load anything, the screens just turns black, canīt access the BOOT menu or anything. I manged to take this picture of the blue screen.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI went to accessories/system tools/system restore and clicked it. I then got a small dialogue window asking if I wanted to continue and I clicked continue. That little window disappeared but then nothing hasppened. I was expecting to see a list of possible restore points but nothing showed on my screen. I clicked system restore again and got a message that system restore was already running and would now exit.

I also have only one choice of a restore point: today, which is useless. I've read so many of the threads but can't find the solution. I'm running Vista Home Ediition, I have 220g hard drive with lots of room to spare. I don't dual boot with XP, I have not changed the defaults for space allocated to System Restore. I'm baffled and I'm grateful.

Whenever I start windows normally I get a black screen with this message: 0c0000034 247/99403 (_oooooooooooooooo.cdf-ms). When I try to start safe mode it loads a bunch of files then says please wait. It never goes past please wait. I cant do a system restore. Whenever I try I get some unspecified error message. The "Last Known Good Configuration" option doesent work either. I've tried startup repair several times but that doesent work.

Up until recently, when i chose System Restore it came up with a calander-like window and then i was able to choose the day i wanted my sistem restored to. Then a few days ago I experienced a crash, and it took my pc a while to check my disk (the only one, since it's a laptop).

Then i manged to enter Vista again, and i thought i'd just restore again, hoping nothing was wrong. And when i clicked System Restore it took absolutely AGES to open (the rest of the stuff worked/s well...) and when it eventually opened i got that:

I am having a problem with a blue screen occurring approximately every second time I start my computer. Ater completing a startup repair including a system restore I get this message on my desktop:

I bought this computer on 3-5-08. This started on 3-16-08 and has occurred about 1x - 3x per day since then. I have tried system restore, several times, back as far as I could go, but it didn't help. I have also ran all of the diagonstic tools I can find on my computer and it has passed them. (By the way, I am not very computer savvy.) Here is one examples of what it is telling me:

I havent added anything new apart from software - BBC iPlayer. Plsu, a lexmark printer driver for an X1100 has never worked - it is not vista approved but the printer has worked. Suddenly from 5 days I am facing 'Display driver nvlddmkm failed and restore successfully'. Don't know when and why this happens.So I thought of restoring my system to 5 days back.I selected System restore back up point to 23rd of September,09.During this process something got messed up and when restarted it is showing 'blue screen' . Nothing else is visible.I'm able to login through safe mode.but don't know what to do with this. I also tried to do system repair. But no use.Ended up with same.
Tried to do system restore again. Even if I want to reinstall Vista, manufacturer has not provided any backup cd with my laptop.
I have an HP dv5-1000us running Vista Home Premium 64, and I've had it for several months. Recently it has developed a tendancy to randomly freeze solid (no control alt delete, no coming back from being frozen, must hard restart). It got much worse when I tried to install the new Zune update (3.1); now it will freeze like clockwork about 3 minutes after I open Zune. If I don't open Zune, it's much more random but it still happens. Another symptom is that I started getting a message that my sound driver software had to close due to a "problem". Sound still works, I just get the annoying message. Nothing I do seems to fix it, including Bios flashing, driver/device install/reinstall, etc.
I was really surprised when I looked at the system monitor. I have 4 gigs of RAM installed, and it runs at a steady 1.7gb usage with no programs open. I have disabled the animation stuff, too. When I open Zune it shoots up to around 2gb. The processor varies between 4 to 20% with no programs open, and is at 95-99% when Zune is open. As I'm typing this, I have flock, skype, and outlook open, the processor is running at about 30% and the RAM usage holds at a steady 1.76gb. Question: Is this normal? Or is it time (already) to bust out the restore disks?

View 5 Replies View RelatedWhy can't I use system restore to restore back to certain restore points? I was only successful twice with it. When my laptap was new and when I used it after re-formatting my hard drive. On all occassions after those two instances I can never restore back to any restore point. It always says that "unspecified error" line. If Microsoft doesn't know what happend, how could I. Why did they bother putting system restore if it doesn't work all the time anyway. It gives you a false sense of security.

Normal boot just sits at loading screen..
Have tried:
Disabling all startup apps and services -same
System restore as far back as it will go - completed, but the same
Recovery functions from boot menu - complete, but the same
Last known good config - same
Disable Driver Signature Enforcement - same
Enable low resolution video - same
Biggest problem is no Toshiba/MS restore CD/DVD available.
I do have a clean copy of XP I could try.
I have no problem formatting and starting over w XP, but it just seems like if it will boot to safe mode, it should be fixable ... software/drivers being the issue.
To make this short, I just have two basic questions, for now...
1. How far can someone go in formatting a drive on their computer?
2. Let's say you bought a computer and it came with it all the necessary cds, which I think is the case with most computer purchases. Could you go as far as you can with formatting all the drives (C: drive, E: recovery drive, etc.) on the computer, and bring it back to normal with those cds (cds containing windows, dell software, etc.) of course disregarding other downloaded files like word docs, videos + music etc.?
I got a customer Windows Vista Basic keep boot into Safe Mode even I keep try to boot into normal mode. I had follow question:

My windows vista has one user account and one admin account, i've reccently installed the game 'audition' which is known as an 'unidentified program from an unidentified publisher' to play in both accounts but this game is always block or rather requires a permission to 'allow' the program to be run or requests for the adminstrators permission to run the program, and there is a popup window telling me that i change to control settings about allowing the game to run without prompting anymore in the future at 'user account controls' but i just can't seem to find the place to chnage the settings,

Commands such as 'copy' & 'xcopy' copy files & folders to another location. I have an 8GB SD, but I don't know what drive is the reader. I've tried to access Vista by typing 'Windows' @ the C:/, but this messags returns: 'WINDOWS' is not recognized as an internal or external command' Windows is listed @ the 'Dir' command! View 6 Replies View RelatedI use the Pictures folder alot on my Vista based computer, and recently I was sorting through some of the pictures, deciding which ones to keep and which to delete. Most of these I have copied from my digital camera, and some I have downloaded from the web. Well, after having gone through them all, there is at least one in particular that I cannot seem to delete. I don't want it to just be sent to the Recycle Bin, but completely erased from the computer. I have discounted any viruses or spyware, and checked all my 'Folder' settings, but nothing I can think of to do will remove this file from the folder. It also does not actually show up in normal viewing, only if i do a search using special variables. It only shows up if I type, "*.jpg" into the search bar when I am viewing the directory. I can't however do anything with the file. I can't move it, I can't rename it, and while it shows a thumbnail image of the photo, when I click on it to open it, the picture viewer shows no photo-representation. I also can't replace it with another file with the same exact name. How do I permanently remove this one file? And how did it get to the point of being undeletable. File properties do not show that it is 'hidden' or 'read only'.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have asked many questions here recently , and I finally GAVE UP fixing Vista, and reinstalled it for the 4th time. It just commits suicide whenever it wants. I even replaced my Motherboard/drives/video hardware and it still suicides out. I reinstalled Vista, this time I also installed SP1. After a day (today many of my desktop and start menu and explorer icons show either the default windows UGLY icon or that icon on TOP of the normal icon. I had this installed one day and already issues come, this one is visual.

When I wake up Laptop from hibernation or sleep or screen saver, IE and START button are non-responsive. I have to activate task manager and click "look for solution" which re-activates IE but makes me lose everything I was working on prior to sleep/hibernation or screensaver. Or I shut down manually using power button, then re-start/reboot. Have I programmed my PC incorrectly to sleep/hibernate or is it intrinsic VISTA prob?

I didn't have this problem previously when using Outlook Express.
