DATA PROTECTION Fraud Antivirus: Data Protection Is A Counterfeit Application Which Pretends To Be A Legitimate Security Tool

May 15, 2010

Data Protection is a counterfeit application which pretends to be a legitimate security tool. It is also from the same rogue family as Digital Protection, Your Protection, User Protection, Dr. Guard and Paladin Antivirus. The trojan based software starts its activities as soon as it installs onto your computer. Malware has no ability to detect and terminate the parasite. It only gains that user lose their vigilance and would buy a registered version of Data Protection application.

This is a fraud and dangerous for your computer. Behind an offer stands bad people who will use your money for malicious intentions. This application is not worth spending your money. As any malware this one will scan your computer automatically and will show fake results. You should ignore it. Do not fall for this blatant scam. Data Protection can also redirect your web browser to deceptive web pages that advertises “full” version of the security tool. Do not buy it, but choose decent anti-spyware application and terminate Data Protection upon detection. - the conclusion is that Malware bytes does remove it,, you need to download the lastest malware byte or update the one you got. The Recommended Updates Was KB940157: Windows Search 4.0 For Windows Vista For X64-systems (11,8MB).

Aug 19, 2008

I'm running Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit edition Dutch Version, updated with SP1 and all the patches/updates until today. However, I have encountered two problems lately, that might be related. During one of the last Windows update sessions, one of the recommended updates was KB940157: Windows Search 4.0 for Windows Vista for x64-systems (11,8MB).

The update downloaded succesfully, created a restore point, but then during installation of Search 4.0, windows update stops and announces an update fail error:

Failed: 1 update
Errorcode: 800F0900

I've been googling this particular error code in combination with KB940157, but it doesn't bring up any entries. Then later on, I discovered that when I go into the Windows Components window (via Control Panel, Add/remove software), the entire windows stays blank (first it says "Wait a few moments..."). This only lasts a few seconds then shows a complete empty window.

Virus Scan : Can't Remove Virsus

Aug 23, 2009

I am working on an A300-1J1 (French Keyboard & Vista 32). The machine is owned by a member of my family, and when I got it it was totally down due to virus contamination. I started out getting the system virus free and by using Bit Defender, Avira Rescue and Trinity Rescue Disk, I managed to get it to the point where I was not finding any malware, but still couldn't boot due to files being trashed by the various malware that had been picked up. The machine was so hard down that it would BSOD almost contiously on a boot or would hang in the welcome screen.

I removed the hard drive and put it in a USB Sata external unit and then did a Avira check and it told me that the unit was clean, I then did a chkdsk /f /r and had 5 files that had been damaged and were repaired. I then did a defrag and re installed the drive and it boots fine, but i cannot seem to use any of my USb flash drives or my USB sata eternal units on it. It keeps trying to install USB Controllers and Intel USB Devices, but it tells me that when I plug in a USB flash drive or a Sata drive that it doesn't recognize the peripheral...

"sfc /scannow" Windows Resource Protection Could Not Perform The

Mar 23, 2008

I'm using Vista Ultimate. You can suppose that if I'm writing here it's because I'm finding some problems (and I'm unable to solve them by myself). I'm quite sure that I don't have malware on my computer. It's usually not connected to internet. I think I have some kind of system files & registry corruption.

"Chkdsk" says the filesystem is ok. Next step would be running "sfc" (sfc /scannow). But it refuses to start. The message is: "Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation." I already tried it starting in "safe mode". I tried also to install "Service Pack 1" but it I couldn't.

Is OEM Recommended ?

Jul 5, 2008

I'd like to upgrade PCs from my family to Vista (2 PC).

I also have to precise I regularly change PCs configuration : ex. I rebuilt completly one of the PC to put a big graphic card (for Games): the mother board and connectic were so old I had to change almost everything (box, mother board, new wireless PCI card.) The only things that didn't changed were the screen, the keyboard and the mouse.

Knowing this, what do you recommend : Vista OEM or the DVD pack?

And to be complete, is there somewhere reliable information with differences and possiblities of all Vista version (number of installation, what can be changed, what can't be changed in PC in order to reinstal, etc.)

AVG 9.0 Not Recommended

Mar 13, 2010

In the past I had no problem recommending AVG Free 8.5, however I cannot recommend the version 9.0 because of apparant problems. A couple of days ago I downloaded AVG Free 9.0, uninstalled v8.5, installed v9.0 and went thru the settings; most were left as default. This AM while on the internet, the AVG scan started, that is when the problems started. I attempted to go from Yahoo home page to Yahoo mail. I was unable to redirect and IE8 showed (Not Responding) but yet system tray internet connection showed as still being connected.

I of course did the diagnose internet connection, it would not return a result so I ended both it and IE. I then attempted to open the user interface from the system tray, unable to do so. Attempted to stop process but it was not evan showing up in Applications. About the only thing I could do was restart the computer and do the uninstall upon load up.

Did not reinstall v8.5 because daughters computer while this was going on, was asking for a restart from AVG automatically downloading and installing v9.0. It would appear for whatever reason while performing the scan, it takes control of the computer instead of in the past allowing you to set priority, unless there is a setting that needs to be changed.

Recommended 802.11g USB Adapter For X64?

Sep 20, 2007

I have Vista Ultimate x64 installed on a dual core Pentium D 820, 3Gb ram machine. I also have a "bluenext" USB 2.0 wifi adapter, which is actually based on the ZD1211B chipset, recently renamed the Atheros AR5007UG. Running WPA-PSK

- all drivers since 2.0.0.125 result in very slow performance (~ 30 kbps)
- virtually every day the adapter stops working. Usually the LED is off & no error is logged, but device needs to be replugged to reactivate. Occasionally a reboot is needed.................

Shut Down, Sleep, Hibernate: Which Is Recommended?

Is it true that the normal admin account is the same as a standard account except UAC asks for permission to perform admin tasks?

VSync Recommended Enabled Or Disabled

Dec 6, 2008

I think the title says it all - I mostly play games on my system and I would like to know what this function really is and what performance impact it has when enabled (besides frame cap). I noticed that when it is disabled scene on the screen sometimes gets 'desynchronized' (i.e. upper half of the scene is like somewhat 'nudged' compared to the lower half), especially when the player moves fast or camera makes rapid movements (reckon that is why it is also called 'vertical synchronization'). So the question is - should it be enabled or disabled ?

Recommended Simple Folder And Files Backup

Apr 11, 2008

I currently have a Dell Dimension 8200 computer with window XP Pro installed. For specific folders and files, I use the AKGBackup Program and it has worked well for me, especially since it is so easy to use and I can access any backed up folder or file with just windows explorer. I don't need a lot of features. In the very near future, I plan to purchase a new Dell computer with Vista Business Edition. any simple folder/file backup programs (Vista compatible) that is similar to the AKGBackup program. I should note that the AKGBackup program web site does not indicate if it works with Vista (the last time I checked). I should also note that I have researched a bit about windows Live OneCare and it appears to be somewhat lacking. Imaging, I currently use the Symantec Livestate Recovery Desktop Edition for my current computer and plan to purchase the ShadowProtect Desktop Edition for my new computer.
