I have a Dell laptop that when you open a program will no fill the screen. On the right side of the screen it shows the desktop. Even if you right click in the area nothing happens. It almost like some thing is hidden and will not let anything display in the area.
I have a Samsung LCD 720P HDTV 32" that I have been using as a secondary monitor. I just bought a new computer (HP Elite M9060N) with vista on it and a Geforce 8500GTS NVIDIA card (factory installed). When I try to extend my desktop onto my tv (using Dualview) it doesn't fill the entire screen. It leaves a black ring around the outside. I've tried adjusting the resolution, but it doesn't work. In addition to the ring, the resolution on the tv looks horrible. I have the refresh rate maxed out and tried flip flopping which monitor is my primary but just can't seem to get it to work. I'm also using a Samsung LCD 20" monitor and connecting my extra monitor with an HDMI cable.........
In the Windows 7 test versions released earlier this year, the built-in Windows Mail program was gone, along with Windows Photo Gallery and Windows Movie Maker applications.
Because of the recent fiasco with Creative / Daniel K the straw has broken the camels back and I am trying real hard to not use my X-Fi XtremeGamer, and never buy Creative again. Although I didn't personally have many issues with it (and Alchemy is great for Vista...wish there was one for everyone) I don't want to spend my life wondering what will happen next with my drivers..
I have a Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3R rev 1.0. This board has the Realtek ALC889A chip and when I first started using it in XP I was so very impressed with both the quality and the features. Specifically speaker fill. I love upmixing my music to 5.1 and at the time I was having weird issues with Creatives own expansion setting so I happily used my onboard for quite a while.
Then I decided to upgrade to Vista and noticed immediately that things were not working the way they had on XP.. DirectSound removal aside, I couldn't even get music to upmix properly.. So here I am again, trying to get by without my X-Fi and I've installed the latest drivers from Realtek's web site for Vista x64........
My computer is freaking out and i cant figure out why. I try to start it normally and it posts and I see the green loading bar for windows at the bottom of the screen and then the screen goes black. I can load into safemode but that is all. I can not restore sucessfully.
When I open up a new window, it normally opens up at less than a full screen. Is there an option for having the new window open up as a full (maximize) screen?
I have Vista. Just now, something happened to my Firefox window so that the bottom edge was below the bottom of the screen. I couldn't find a way to resize the window so that the bottom edge was visible. (I had to close and restart Firefox and it was okay.) Was there a way to resize a window without dragging the edge or corner? I had no way to get to the edge. I right clicked on the title bar and selected Size.
On my HP notebook, I selected my screen saver for 3 minutes on my Window Vista. I clicked ok than apply. No screen saver to be found after 3 minutes. What am I missing here?
I click Start, then Windows Update - nothing, it just locks up as a blank screen. It's not listed as a Program on Control Panel I've tried to download it, but it won't download. I've searched other sites, nothing helps. I restored the PC to a about month previous (5/12/2010) - nothing.I have Comcast and they replaced McAfee with the Norton Suite and that is what I'm using, not Windows protection software. Could that affect the use of Windows Update? What would you recommend?
ForceWare 175.80 Full screen 3d gaming resets/ignores my gamma settings... Haven't had that problem in past with ATi x1900xtx card... Gamma settings will work if game is running in window mode, but it hurts the performance of the game, soo i'm looking for a solution... Games are: Counter-strike source and Team Fortress 2 OS: Vista x64
I cannot find a windows 7 group. Im hoping that this group will work. I have a netbook with windows 7. However windows 7 has this silly feature where if you drag a window off the screen it snaps back to the frame fo the window so it cant be half on and half off. Because this is a netbook the screen is not big so I want to drag my windows off the screen so only half shows up. How can I turn this feature off so i can have my windows dragged half off the screen.
I just got a new laptop with vista a few months ago. Everything ran smoothly until recently when I went to turn it on and got an error message that???s repeated ever since. It shows the black 'vista' page, the screen turns black, and after a while a box pops up reading; 'window error recovery' A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. It suggests I launch startup Repair. However when I do so it says "startup repair cannot repair this computer automatically."
I've tried going into system recovery options and using system restore to a date when it was working correctly, but it seemed to have no effect. I haven???t changed any hardware or software recently, and the only thing plugged into it was the power cord. I'm afraid I'm not very tech savvy, but I don't want to give up on a brand new computer!
When I take print screens and put them on paint to save them the quality is rubbish. Is there a *free *program that you can take print screens with that does not decrease the quality?
I'm trying to take an Entry Form (PDF) format from an e-mail and fill it out and return via e-mail. I have tried copying form and pasting in word. Doesn't work. Then I printed out the form and scanned. Still no good. I am so confused and frusted. Can anyone tell me how to take a PDF File and fill it out.
I have Vista and when I open any application with fields, even when I click "start" and in the search field, something starts filling in "////////////////////" and doesn't stop until the field limit is reached if it ever is. Sometimes, when I think I've been spared today, it doesn't start filling it in until I put the cursor in the field and other times still yet it doesn't start until I start typing in the field. In all events, the computer is making a weird multiple short beeping sound probably for every "/" it enters. I'm up-to-date with my McAfee definitions and my computer is scanned nightly at 3am for virus. I'm up-to-date with my Microsoft updates including Vista Service Pack 2.
Can anyone explain this: 3219. The screenshot shows the folder view (in Windows Explorer), and a directory listing (in a Command Line window). Why is the Explorer window showing different filenames than the command line window? It's not so much of an issue, as I'm currently completing a scheduled backup of this drive using Nero Burning ROM, and will be formatting it soon.
I'm getting "a program needs your permission to continue" how do I add the program to a trusted list so I dont get this any more. Im bouncing around lots of different programs and its driving me crazy, I need to stop this for selected programs that I trust like putty
whats wrong with my recovery manager program in HP pavilion laptop... when i run the program, a window appears: microsoft visual c++ runtime library runtime error program c:windowssminst estore7.exe abnormal program termination...
I have Windows Vista Ultimate x64, and it came with 2 set of program files: program files, and program files x86. Since my hard drive is only 100 gigs, I was wondering if I could delete the normal program files and keep the x86 ones, or would that cause problems?
About 40% of the time when I either choose HIBERNATE or the standard SHUT DOWN, the computer just keeps on running. Although it seems WINDOW has shut down, the "ON" light is still on and I can hear the fan running. When this happens I am left with no other option but to use the "emergency shut down" method - pressing the ON button for more than 4 seconds (ASUS laptop, using Vista Home Premium). Presumably this method would damage the computer in some ways in the long run?
I assume WINDOW is shut down because the next time when I turn on the computer it doesn't say the "WINDOW is not properly shut down". So can any kind souls please help me with this annoying problem of turning off the computer completely?
i installed ultimate 64 bit on my dell 1720. it originally came with like home premium 32 bit. why does it have a program files and program files (x86) folder? i just didn't know why it had both and what this means or doesn't mean.
I am building a new system and have a new copy of Vista Home Premium 32bit.
I got it all put together and tried to load Vista. It got to the Windows is loading files screen and then screen in getting black video. Keyboad and mouse stopped working at times. So I updated the board BIO's per intel through iso image and same thing. So I tried installing XP and got to the F8 screen to accept lic. and it just reboots everytime.
Any ideas why Vista would stop? Added the info about the XP install so it may help.
I know this is a Vista news group but I haven't been able to find a Windows 7 group so maybe one of you guys can answer my question. I have the power settings to never put computer or screen to sleep and there is no screen saver setup. When I leave my computer alone for awhile the screen goes black. This never happened with Vista when setup this way why is Windows 7 doing this?
Something very odd happened today. I was as usual loading a large file ( 5.4gb ) in to Photoshop and as PS was doing it's business I noticed everything jumped over to my second monitor and the main monitor went blank. Moments later the image on the second monitor turned into a garbled fragmented mess before going into power save mode from which I couldn't get out of. Very strange.....Forced a warm boot. As the system had just been turned on so I can sort of rule out a heat issue - possibly & ram test OK. My workstation is mainly off line but two days ago I had to ftp something and I do remember vista installing an automatic update for windows update (without my permission) which I was very annoyed about, shame on you MS.....and after rebooting I saw a few reg. modifications come up on screen. Could this be the cause of this odd behavior. It's been fine since I had the warm boot - any ideas as to what's going on.
I've had voltage issues causing my computer to freeze or reboot during games and dvds. Fixed that and the computer was fine after memtest showing no problems. That was late Dec.
A few days ago, the computer would go to a blue screen saying it's dumping physical memory and then automatically reboots. Thinking my harddisk might be collapsing on me (I have a seagate barracuda 7200.11 500Gb HD with the SD15 firmware, the infamous crash friendly HD), I flash the HD with the SD1A firmware from seagate, then it was fine. 2days later, Catalyst started to cause problems by not responding, so I formated the drive and reinstalled vista ultimate, along with Catalyst, drivers from Mobo manufacturer ASUS, plus a couple of other softwares. That was yesterday, and now I'm getting the same blue screen back, or the computer just freezes.
I have recently bought a new PC running Windows Vista Home Premium. I have loaded the above programs for my son and when they a running the screen is not centred and the is a black bar to the right of the screen approx 3 cm wide. I have tried to run the games in compatibility mode and as adminstrator as recommended with other games but with no success.
I am having a very wierd issue with vista's screen saver. So basically when I leave the comp idle it goes into screen saver then turns off the monitor after 15 mins. Sometimes, more often than not, I come back and move the mouse and hit a few keys on the keyboard and nothing. The monitor wont come out of standby I try turning it off and back on, and nothing. I have the latest drivers for everything in my system and I checked the power management settings and they both are able to wake the computer up. I have a G15 keyboard and I keep the leds on and when this happens the leds are off and the lazer for the mouse is off too.
