New Folder Missing When Right-clicking?
Feb 27, 2010A friend who has Vista (I have XP) says that when she right-clicks, "New" --> "Folder" is not an option that comes up on the resulting menu choices.

Double Clicking A Folder In Windows Explorer Opens New Window.
Apr 26, 2008I got this problem after I installed Vista SP1. Inside Windows Explorer, when I double click a folder in the right pane, that folder is opened up as a new second window. No matter what I change in the settings window I cant get rid of this. If I instead right-click the folder and select "Browse", the folder contents is shown in the same window, but (as I said) double click the folder icon, a new window opens up. Seems to me that "double-clicking" a folder in the right pane triggers the "Open" action instead of "Browse" action.

Feb 28, 2009I am encountering behavior with Windows-Mail that I have not seen discussed anywh. Clicking on a "mailto" link on a webpage properly brings up Windows-Mail, but it omits the "to" address field from the blank message form. In all cases, only a semi-colon character appears in the "to" address. Thus, clicking on the link: someone brings up a blank Windows-Mail message with only a ";" in the "to" address field. Strangely, if a "subject" field is also defined in the mailto link, that subject is properly inserted. Thus, clicking on the link: someone brings up a blank Windows-Mail message with only a ";" in the "to" address field, but with "something" in the subject field.

Jun 21, 2008When I used XP I kept the My Documents file on my D: drive. Apart from anything else this made backing-up a cinch. After upgrading to Vista, I played around and managed to get the D: drive to appear on my start menu. It also appears under my Username folder on the start menu. However, it is grey rather than green and in both places is is called DATA (D rather than documents (or possibly Documents).
My Music and Pictures folders are stored as sub-folders in this drive/folder in the right place, but the other default folders such as Links, Saved Games, Searches, Downloads and Favourites are not, for some reason they still sit on the C: drive. My Videos folder is on my E: drive where I would like to keep it.
Ideally I'd like all these folders to sit on D: with a green Documents folder and all the sub-folders (except Videos). I've seen plenty of online tips about moving folders, sometimes they involve tinkering with the registry, but not much about fixing wrongly configured folders. This isn't just petty nonsense, I really need everything in one place so I can organise simple and reliable back-ups

My folder is set to view 'all items'. It shows me name, date modified and type. When I right click to display column options, I can't locate size. There are a bunch of other column options, but size is not among them.

Missing APP And Program Data Folder
Jun 18, 2008My APP folder under my user folder and the Program Data folder on Local C: Computer, both just disappeared. They are missing and not showing. My folder options check marks are where they should be. I tried Brink's solution in the registry and my missing folders as well as folders that are showing all look the same as far as data and pathes and stuff.
In other words, the missing ones look the same as the ones that are showing, so what is there to change? They all show %userprofile% in front of them. I don't know what made these two important folders disappear. I just don't know how to get them back. I have Vista 32 bit.
Replacing Missing Docs And Settings Folder
Feb 27, 2009Accidentally deleted this folder from C:, and tho I have the files for it on D: (the green 'documents' folder), I cannot access them by clicking start/documents.
How do I fix this blunder ?
Also, probably a post here somewhere, but I tried to do a system restore in the hope that would fix it, but have no restore points...thought this was done automatically?
Email Count In One Folder Off By Two With Those Emails Missing
May 9, 2009Recently I moved two pieces of mail from my Inbox to a folder. There were 5 other pieces of mail in that folder and the count was 5. After moving the mail though the count went up to 7 but the mail did not appear in the folder. Is there any tool or any option or any edit in a folder and/or the Registry purhaps where I can straighten this out. It isn't imperative I recover the email but at a minimum I would like to fix the email count in the folder to be accurate once again. This is Windows Mail in Vista Ultimate 64-bit with all the Microsoft Updates.

Apr 13, 2008I am moving a lot of my games out of the Program Files folder into C:Games so that UAC doesn't ask permission to play most of my games anymore. The problem is that, after I move the game folder, even though the game plays perfectly, it disappears from the Game Explorer and I can't seem to get it added back. The specific game i'm trying with is Lord of the Rings Online. (I moved World of Warcraft and it fixed itself instantly). Everquest 1 also disappeared and no matter what I do I can't seem to get it back in the game explorer other than dragging in the exectuable. Is there a way to get the official Game Explorer icon back for Lord of the Rings Online with the full game rating and ESRB rating and all after moving the folder?

Mar 8, 2010I'm using Vista Home Premium x64. I was attempting to back up some external drives to each other. I had previously used Robocopy on Windows XP with much success, so I thought I would do the same. I initially just manually copied and pasted an external drive designated "G:" into a folder within another external drive designated "I:" (so for example I:Backup1). The files were present and looked all good after this.
Today, I ran Robocopy to try to mirror those two, however as soon as I finished, the "Backup1" folder disappeared from "I:". The files however are present, as I can tell from the space used on "I:" and on top of that, when I try to make a new folder with the same name ("Backup1"), it won't let me, saying that a folder by that name is already present. Other folders (that do not have any data yet) are still present within "I:" The Robocopy script is basically Robocopy "G:" "I:Backup1" /MIR /XA:SH /XD AppData /XJD /R:2 /W:2 /V /ETA /Z /LOG:Backuplog.txt

Aug 24, 2008I am playing CoD4 and I am experiencing some problems with mods and files... When I installed CoD4 I let it install as default. In the program files, Activision, Call of Duty 4 Modern Warfare. Directly after the install I downloaded Patch 1.6 and 1.6-1.7 After that I went to the Call of Duty Modern Warfare folder so that I could add my custom maps. But the folders I am looking for are missing. The folders located in my CoD4 MW folder are: Docs, Main, Miles, Mods, pb, Zone. Then there are 2 folders missing: players and usermaps. My game runs fine, but I cant do anything more... I have all my ranks, but I cant find my players folder. I did a search throughout my pc, for the names of those folders but couldnt find anything... I reinstalled CoD4 twice...

Jun 17, 2009I am using Vista Home Premium and Windows Mail and if I click on WAB.EXE nothing happens. Same if I try to access the address book from the toolbar. The address book seems to be working fine otherwise. The only way I can access the address book is to start to compose a message, click on the To: field and then I can add to, modify, or get an address. I don't want to go over to live Mail since it doesn't handle my Inbox Folders and all their subfolders properly.

Oct 31, 2009I have a Sony Vaio VGNNW150 J with a Fujitsu mhz2320bh hard drive.
When I scroll using any web browser there is a faint rapid clicking sound coming from the hard drive area (underneath the touchpad). It is almost like the hard drive is parking the head on and off. I've run SMART tests and everything checks out.
Has anyone had an issue like this?

Apr 18, 2010When I put mouse cursor on start button, the start balloon does not show up.
Whenever this happens, my mouse left click does not work properly.
For example, if I click on internet explorer then the it opens however I can't click
anything on explorer. The blue color on top of explorer turns gray and nothing happens.
When I do ctrl+alt+del to turn on task manager and click couple times on the task manager screen then it goes back to normal.
Of course first mouse click doesn't work. it is second click on task manager that will make it work properly.
I know this sounds so strange and unusual. But I'm just trying to explain the situation as best as possible.
I tried different mouse/ new driver and so on. It has nothing to do with mouse at all. I just thinking maybe something is running that prevent my mouse from working properly. I checked virus and adware and everything.
I even format the hard drive more than 5 times but same problem still exists.
Screen Settings After Right-clicking On Desktop Won't Appear
Sep 28, 2009Suddenly basic things stopped working. The screen settings after right-clicking on desktop won't appear. Just a blank window for a second and then it's gone completely. I can't run the screen settings from control panel, either. Clicking on games shortcut in Start menu won't work, too. Some of the icons in Control Panel don't respond at all after double-clicking them.
Firstly, I thought it might be caused by some software I installed, so I ran system restore to a point a week old. After restoring the system everything went fine, so I installed necessary aplications again and still, everything was fine. After a few days the problem reappeared, there was no installation or other input from me. I checked out the restore points and there was something like "Uninstalling the language package" restore point. So I restored the system again using this point. And it worked fine. However, after a few days the same thing happened with the same sypmtoms mentioned above. I started to think about some virus.
The computer has the latest NOD and I made sure it's up to date. I also scanned the system using latest Spybot and everything was fine, except one entry that was fixed. Still, the problem remained. After that I tried to install all the latest Vista updates that haven't been installed already. Still no change. So now I haven't got a clue what causes the problem. I thought it's something changing the registry because really, the simplest tasks like running the screen settings don't work. But there's no spyware or virus (as far as I'm concerened). Just now when I'm writing this post my sister told me that the touchpad scroll feature stopped working. This is really weird.

Open .mdi File By Double Clicking
May 16, 2010Microsoft Office Document Imaging is running perfectly with one exception! I cannot open .mdi files by double clicking them. Although if I open the Office Tool first, then I can quite happily do a File Open sequence and use the .mdi file normally. The .mdi file extension refuses to allow itself to be associated with mspview.exe (the correct executable file) even when I try to do it via Default Progams using the built-in administrator account. No helpful error message just no response (I AM able to associate .mdi with other (incorrect) exe files so it seems to be mspview.exe that Vista has taken a dislike to for some reason. It was working ok until I uninstalled MS Office 2003.
I DID have both Office 2003 & 2007 installed but the older version was redundant. I see no reason why Vista should block this file association unless I have a Registry issue potentially? (And yes I have done several restarts) I can of course do a System Restore (hopefully) but I wondered if anyone had any ideas why I'm having problems? Alternatively, I can re-install Office 2007 completely but that seems to be a bit of a sledgehammer approach.

If I double click on a document file in Explorer nothing happens. If I right click and select Open With, and then click on wordicon, nothing happens. I am also unable to launch Word from the Works Suite program launcher. I can open Word, no problem, and it appears to work fine, but to edit a document I have to search for it from within Word, which is often inconvient. Disappearance Of Option To Open New Word Doc When Right-clicking Dektop, And Choosing "New"
Apr 10, 2010In desperation, after not getting the answer on the Vista.Genearl group, I'm posting this to as many groups as I think may be able to help as I suspect that the problem could occur in any MS operating system and is not Vista specific. It might just even be associated with MS Word itself.
The problem is as stated in the subject. After I did a factory reformat of a pre-installed Vista Home Premium on an Acer Aspire L3600 and re-installed my apps, including MS Office 2007 Plus I found that when I right-click the desktop and choose "New", most of options to open a new folder, shortcut, Bitmap Image and documents in the Office suite are there except for MS Word. It used to be there, now it's not and as far as I can see it is the only one missing.
In fact Word shows up when I installed MS Office on my wife's Dell laptop as a test. I've un- and re-installed the entire Office suite to no avail. How has this happened, but more importantly, how can I get it back in the list? It's the feature of the right-click procedure, other than opening a new folder, that I find the most useful.
