I have a Sony Vaio VGNNW150 J with a Fujitsu mhz2320bh hard drive.
When I scroll using any web browser there is a faint rapid clicking sound coming from the hard drive area (underneath the touchpad). It is almost like the hard drive is parking the head on and off. I've run SMART tests and everything checks out.
Has anyone had an issue like this?
I have Vista X64 version of windows. I have a kinda sound problem. My cat has fun sitting on my keyboard sometimes. He sat on it for about 10 seconds and you know that clicking sound when your templet is full? Well after I got the cat off the clicking kept up for about 2 minutes. I thought that it should stop clicking right after you let off the key. WHY does it keep clicking and is there a way to stop this?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI've got a scrolling issue. I have a Toshiba A215-S6804 laptop with Vista Home Premium SP1, IE7 and OpenOffice. I had installed a Dynex optical wireless notebook mouse and found that I could only vertically scroll in IE7. I assumed it was a driver issue because Dynex don't market this mouse specifically for Vista. So I bought a Logitech V320 wireless optical mouse and installed that yesterday. This one is supposed to scroll vertically and horizontally.
Well, in IE7 I have no problems scrolling (both ways), but in any other program I can not get it to scroll. I've tried OpenOffice document, WordPad, and even the help file from Logitech too - nothing will vertically scroll! I'm lost. I have downloaded the most recent software from Logitech with no luck. I have got to assume it's a Vista issue. Is anyone else having this problem?
Is there a software that allows me to create a virtual desktop larger than my monitor's resolution? Some people called it scrolling desktop? I have a nvidia GeForce FX5700 ultra and am running vista. The reason for this is to capture higher resolution out put from mapping software or website, which displays higher resolution map on higher resolution desktop.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a Wireless Laser Mouse 5000 and I'm having trouble getting the wheel scrolling tuned just right. I'd like to have a small scroll amount when I move the wheel slowly (to get really good precision) but then go really fast (screens at a time) when I "flick" the wheel to roll it quickly. The Intellipoint 6.2 software doesn't give me enough of a difference between slow scroll and accelerated fast scrolling. In fact, I don't see much of a difference, if any. I have the vertical scrolling speed almost set all the way to the left (slow). I have Enable accelerated scrolling checked, and under advanced, I have the slow/fast slider all the way to the right (fast). Seems as if this should be VERY exagerated--the dif between slow and accelerated should be VERY obvious.I searched the regsitry for any hint of settings. Nothing interesting or obvious under HKLMSoftwareMicrosoftIntellipoint, HKCUControl PanelMouse. Under HCKUControl PanelDesktop I can see WheelScrollLines but this seems to be the slow scroll rate.
It is at 2 and it changes when I change the slow/fast slider under the Mouse control panel vertical scrolling speed (nothing to do with acceleration).I can't find any registry setting that changes when I change the Accelerated Scrolling slow/fast slider. I find this very odd. Can anyone shed light on this? Is the vertical scroll acceleration a per-app setting? Is it something to do with how many scroll wheel interrupts happen per second and have to be set in a HID or mouse driver somewhere? I've tried MANY Microsoft mice to see if it something peculiar with this particular mouse and I see the same symptom with the new Natural Laser mouse, the Wireless Intellimouse Explorer 2.0.
I am using Vista Home Premium and Windows Mail and if I click on WAB.EXE nothing happens. Same if I try to access the address book from the toolbar. The address book seems to be working fine otherwise. The only way I can access the address book is to start to compose a message, click on the To: field and then I can add to, modify, or get an address. I don't want to go over to live Mail since it doesn't handle my Inbox Folders and all their subfolders properly.

View 7 Replies View RelatedWhen I put mouse cursor on start button, the start balloon does not show up.
Whenever this happens, my mouse left click does not work properly.
For example, if I click on internet explorer then the it opens however I can't click
anything on explorer. The blue color on top of explorer turns gray and nothing happens.
When I do ctrl+alt+del to turn on task manager and click couple times on the task manager screen then it goes back to normal.
Of course first mouse click doesn't work. it is second click on task manager that will make it work properly.
I know this sounds so strange and unusual. But I'm just trying to explain the situation as best as possible.
I tried different mouse/ new driver and so on. It has nothing to do with mouse at all. I just thinking maybe something is running that prevent my mouse from working properly. I checked virus and adware and everything.
I even format the hard drive more than 5 times but same problem still exists.
Suddenly basic things stopped working. The screen settings after right-clicking on desktop won't appear. Just a blank window for a second and then it's gone completely. I can't run the screen settings from control panel, either. Clicking on games shortcut in Start menu won't work, too. Some of the icons in Control Panel don't respond at all after double-clicking them.
Firstly, I thought it might be caused by some software I installed, so I ran system restore to a point a week old. After restoring the system everything went fine, so I installed necessary aplications again and still, everything was fine. After a few days the problem reappeared, there was no installation or other input from me. I checked out the restore points and there was something like "Uninstalling the language package" restore point. So I restored the system again using this point. And it worked fine. However, after a few days the same thing happened with the same sypmtoms mentioned above. I started to think about some virus.
The computer has the latest NOD and I made sure it's up to date. I also scanned the system using latest Spybot and everything was fine, except one entry that was fixed. Still, the problem remained. After that I tried to install all the latest Vista updates that haven't been installed already. Still no change. So now I haven't got a clue what causes the problem. I thought it's something changing the registry because really, the simplest tasks like running the screen settings don't work. But there's no spyware or virus (as far as I'm concerened). Just now when I'm writing this post my sister told me that the touchpad scroll feature stopped working. This is really weird.
As above really, also some desktop icons are now appearing as blank (small white box). I have recently installed updated, correct drivers. How do I get these icons back. Most of my icons are fine, its just a few that are missing, mainly .sis
files, which are Nokia applications.
Microsoft Office Document Imaging is running perfectly with one exception! I cannot open .mdi files by double clicking them. Although if I open the Office Tool first, then I can quite happily do a File Open sequence and use the .mdi file normally. The .mdi file extension refuses to allow itself to be associated with mspview.exe (the correct executable file) even when I try to do it via Default Progams using the built-in administrator account. No helpful error message just no response (I AM able to associate .mdi with other (incorrect) exe files so it seems to be mspview.exe that Vista has taken a dislike to for some reason. It was working ok until I uninstalled MS Office 2003.
I DID have both Office 2003 & 2007 installed but the older version was redundant. I see no reason why Vista should block this file association unless I have a Registry issue potentially? (And yes I have done several restarts) I can of course do a System Restore (hopefully) but I wondered if anyone had any ideas why I'm having problems? Alternatively, I can re-install Office 2007 completely but that seems to be a bit of a sledgehammer approach.
I am logged in as an administrator. However, if I try to run Erunt by left clicking the program, I get an error message. So, I right click and choose 'Run as an Administrator' and it works fine. Why should I have to do this?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have installed Works Suite 2006 in my Vista Home Premium computer. Everything works fine apart from Word 2002. I am unable to open Word by clicking on document files. If I double click on a document file in Explorer nothing happens. If I right click and select Open With, and then click on wordicon, nothing happens. I am also unable to launch Word from the Works Suite program launcher. I can open Word, no problem, and it appears to work fine, but to edit a document I have to search for it from within Word, which is often inconvient. I have un-installed the suite, and re-installed it, but the problem still persists.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI got this problem after I installed Vista SP1. Inside Windows Explorer, when I double click a folder in the right pane, that folder is opened up as a new second window. No matter what I change in the settings window I cant get rid of this. If I instead right-click the folder and select "Browse", the folder contents is shown in the same window, but (as I said) double click the folder icon, a new window opens up. Seems to me that "double-clicking" a folder in the right pane triggers the "Open" action instead of "Browse" action.

Meaning when I record something, it would record whatever is playing on the computer. But I forgot how to make that setting.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI just upgraded to Vista U x64 and am having sound problems. I have a prelude x-fi sound card but the sound coming out of it is extremely low. I have maxed out every thing I can max (control panel sound, creative panel) and the sound level is whisper quiet. I have also upgraded all my drivers except the prelude's, I would but their website isn't offering those drivers at the moment. But the drivers supplied with the card are vista certified so I should get something. But my mobo, etc is all updated. I have been searching for a solution for two days to no avail.

It might just even be associated with MS Word itself.
The problem is as stated in the subject. After I did a factory reformat of a pre-installed Vista Home Premium on an Acer Aspire L3600 and re-installed my apps, including MS Office 2007 Plus I found that when I right-click the desktop and choose "New", most of options to open a new folder, shortcut, Bitmap Image and documents in the Office suite are there except for MS Word. It used to be there, now it's not and as far as I can see it is the only one missing.
In fact Word shows up when I installed MS Office on my wife's Dell laptop as a test. I've un- and re-installed the entire Office suite to no avail. How has this happened, but more importantly, how can I get it back in the list? It's the feature of the right-click procedure, other than opening a new folder, that I find the most useful.
I am encountering behavior with Windows-Mail that I have not seen discussed anywh. Clicking on a "mailto" link on a webpage properly brings up Windows-Mail, but it omits the "to" address field from the blank message form. In all cases, only a semi-colon character appears in the "to" address. Thus, clicking on the link: someone brings up a blank Windows-Mail message with only a ";" in the "to" address field. Strangely, if a "subject" field is also defined in the mailto link, that subject is properly inserted. Thus, clicking on the link: someone brings up a blank Windows-Mail message with only a ";" in the "to" address field, but with "something" in the subject field.

My system has two raid 1 arrays - one is running on XP Professional SP3 the other one is running on Vista x64 Ultimate SP1. When I start my virtual machines (either from the Virtual PC console or when double-clicking the *.vmc files) than everything is working fine on XP and the virtual machines are booting and running as expected. However, on Vista the following is happening (and I hope somebody has an idea):
1. Starting the Virtual machines from the console leads to an immediate reboot of my host machine (I can't even see any boot screen of the virtual machine - it is like clicking start in the VPC console -- > reboot of host).

My Desktop PC was working fine yesterday, but today there is no sound at all from the speakers. I opened Device Manager and found everything normal: there was no yellow questions marks beside the Sound item. The speaker cables are also firmly connected to the PC. I've ran AVG, SpyBot & Malwarebyte's Anti-Malware to scan for virus, etc, but found none.

Ive had no sound since I instaled Vista Im gona try to explain to problem even tho my Vista is in swedish. Anyway when I got to the thing were I choose what kind of sound I wont for exampel "Stereo" (Right and Left speaker) or 5.1-surround. Ive only got 2 speakers so mine is set to Stereo and theres no sound from the right and left speaker. BUT when I try the
square option whit 4 speakers: Right and Left still no sound from but the Back Right and Back Left theres sound.
I hope you understand the problem even thougth my bad english if not please tell me and Im gona try to explain/translate it better.
