I've dug a little deeper since yesterday and thought about the future uses to which I might wish to put direct recordings. So can anyone steer me towards some simplistic software for recording .wma files - 192kbit/s preferred.

Im trying to record audio but only record what I hear & not record from my mic. Problem is my mic is my only option. I updated my drivers which are Conexant High Def Smart Audio221 & also NVIDIA High Def Audio. But after I did that I only a 1 single option to choose from when I look under recording devices. And it is showing disabled devices as well. Any idea's on what im doing wrong and/or what I need? Basically I want to record what only comes out of my speakers & not pic up any backround noise from my mic.
View 5 Replies View RelatedRunning a Toshiba Satellite (nice speakers) under Vista Home Premium SP2. There is a series of audio interviews on the web that I want to record on my HD. Currently, I'm having acceptable results simply playing through the speakers and picking it up through the microphone using Sound Recorder. It's not exactly high fidelity, but I'm dealing with speech, not music. The only problem is that it's vulnerable to any noise in the area, and four to six grandkids can produce that effortlessly.
I asked Geek Squad if I could just jumper the earphones output to the mic input, thereby blocking out external noise. She said it wouldn't work because ... yadda yadda .. powered mic ... yadda yadda ... a lot of extra noise. She confused me further with talk about software that will do this. I tried a free trial of one, but it looked as though it was still depending about the output from speakers and said nothing about gagging grandkids. Is there a way to play audio from a website and record it on my HD without depending on immediate airspace?
anyone knows how to record from the sound card in vista? i remember when i used to run XP i would select "wav" or "stereo" and i wud be able to record whats been played on my computer. now i got vista and a built in mic those options arent showing up. is there any other way to get this?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a dell lalptop with windows vista basic. I have used the sound recorder before but the quality is not that great (using the inbuilt mic). So today I brought a microphone headset (cheap one). But I still find a little bit of background noise using the sound recorder. I need this because I do poetry and I am doing some recorded peotry for use as backing for a dvd. Im just looking for the cheapest resonable option. Has anyone got any ideas? I have done a couple of peoms to dvd but the sound lets it down. This is just a project at the moment so I dont wont to spend louds of money on equipment.

View 6 Replies View RelatedIn XP I could record audio with sound recorder from anything I could hear. For example, if I was playing a WAV file, or listening to a song on the internet, I could record it. Now in Vista it only allows me to record from my microphone. I checked disabled devices and still can not get anything but the microphone to show up. Is there anyway around this besides sticking an audio cable from the headphone jack into my mic input? So far Vista has me aggravated with things I have lost, you would think a newer operating system would allow you more flexibility, not take it from you.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI have an HP dv6500z laptop, running 32-bit Vista Home Premium. It has a single microphone input jack , but no line-in jack. The microphone jack has both, mono & stereo capability. I know that line-in and microhone jacks are not the same, but do not know if Wirdows Audio recorder software (or similar) accounts for this. Can I use the microphone input jack to record stereo signals output from another
device (e.g., a Reel-to-reel tape recoder, cassette palyer, turntable, ...). If so, does Windows provide any documentation regarding the parameters that need to be set. What about recording levels ? Is setting these mainly trial & error, or is there some basic Rule-of-Thumb to go by ? Does Windows have a similar Video Recorder application and doumentation ?
I need to know if anyone is aware of any software that can record everything that is being done on a PC I own and store this on a file in that computer or on a server in my own company where we can access it from another computer and view the recording without interfering with the usage of the recorded machine. Is there such a thing?

I cannot seem to get a signal into AUDACITY, although I han hear an output from the computer's speakers. I have connected the cassette player's headphone output to the computer's LINE-IN jack. I have set the device preferences in AUDACITY and have right-clicked the speaker icon and set the recording device to LINE-IN but still no-go!

Suddenly it's doing it, but I believe upto recent times such annoyance was not happening. View 9 Replies View RelatedI recently purchased a Dell desktop with 64-bit Vista Premium. Audacity 1.2.6 would not record: I got a message telling me to "check the input device settings and the project sample rate." I checked in Audacity>Edit>Preferences, & there were no Recording Device options listed at all.
After Googling all possible avenues for advice, I found an extremely simple solution… that actually works!
* Select Personalization from the Control Panel.
* Select Sounds
* Select the Recording tab.
* In my case, there were 3 options shown: Front Mic, Microphone, & Line In, all grayed out & showing as not plugged in.
* Right click on any one of them choose "show disabled devices."
* This brought up the Stereo Mix option.
* Select Stereo Mix, Choose Properties, and click Enable.
* Voila! Now it worked the same way as Wave Out Mix in Windows XP, & I could record streaming audio with no problems!
I have attempted to use the "Stereo Mix" or "What You Hear" recording feature found in previous versions of Windows with the new Vista Home Premium, but it doesn't appear under "Recording" sound devices (even when hidden and disabled are chosen to appear). Has this been removed in Vista?

I don't know exactly what happened, I probably mashed the touch pad. Anyway, now I can't find the files anymore. I've tried running a search but it has come to no avail. How do I find my files? If it makes any difference the files were on a memory stick.
View 9 Replies View RelatedWhile installing a program, the process was interrupted and the install created 62000 files using 160gig in my syswow64 folder virtually using all my hd space. However when you go into the syswow64 folder, there is only about 2000 files and 1 gig of space used. I have set the folders to show all hidden files. When I go into the ms dos prompt and do a directory, the files match the 1 gig data.
I can't delete these 62000 files and free up the 160 gig space because I don't believe they are actually there on the hard drive but explorer thinks they are there. Is there any way to rebuild, sync, or otherwise get windows explorer to recognize the correct amount of files that are actually in my syswow64 folder.(2000files 1gig and not 62000files 160gig)
I am running Vista Ultimate 32 bit. I have a folder on my desktop named Downloads that I use for, shockingly, downloads. Anyway, there are a couple of files in the folder that are, apparently, not really there. They are like ghost files. They used to exist but now they are still visible but not recognized by any program. Also, they have a size of 0 kb!
I'd like to get rid of them but they refuse to be deleted. When I try to delete them, I get this:

Is it best to make a root folder to the C: drive for Games and not load games into the program files or X86 files?
View 9 Replies View RelatedA multitude of files, folders and sub-folders have disappeared (all from my "Documents"). Miscellaneous sub-folders within folders have disappeared, while other sub-folders remain intact. At first I was completely lost, as the files were there not 30 minutes prior... After assuming the worst and thinking that they had corrupted or been deleted due to a virus, I:
- Made sure my folder options were set properly (I can view all hidden files)
- Thoroughly checked the recycle bin
- Did numerous searches
- Downloaded Google Desktop and searched some more
- Ran various "undelete" and "recovery" programs with no results
- Did a system restore...........
I bought a new computer for college recently and I cannot download limewire. Everytime I try I get an error message that says "....can't open input files because of splittet files." I have no idea how to circumvent this.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have encountered a very strange problem. I have downloaded two exe files recently. When I doubleclick on the exe file, instead of the application installing, what should happen but Word of all things opens with, in the case of one of them a box headed 'File Conversion - arw5setup.msi', and a similar wording in the second, asking me to select the encoding that makes my document readable. Whatever I select, the exe file then opens as a text file.
(The reference to an msi file is baffling as both files were exe files.) When it happened the first time I thought it was a corrupt file, but when it happened again it has to be that there is something wrong with my system. Is this a virus? Spybot has just come up with a clean slate ...
When I start installing it, it goes through the "Copying Files" stage instantly, and then hangs up at 0% on "Expanding Files". Then, anywhere from 10 seconds to 3 minutes later, my screen goes black like it's not receiving a monitor signal anymore, and nothing else happens.
I Googled the problem and found a ton of threads here and elsewhere with the same issue, with a slight variation, but none of them had issues posted, and they were all relatively old.
