View 8 RepliesYesterday when I turned on my Dell Laptop (Inspiron 1521, 2 yrs. old), there was a vertical, red, laser-like stripe on my screen. When I got to my desktop and subsequent web pages, certain white areas (like the one on which I'm currently writing) are awash in a turquoise color. Letters are outlined in white. A comprehensive Norton 360 scan showed or fixed nothing. Not sure if it's related, but last weekend, I popped my keyboard, and other "doors" on the computer bottom, and blew out the dust with aerosol air. Was careful, however, not to touch anything! I'm only a casual user, no games, vids, etc. Mostly shopping, banking, & email .

View 7 Replies View RelatedI have a question about my laptop which I was hoping someone can solve for me please? I have a 3" (approx) black line running down the right hand side of my screen and a 1" (approx) black line running across the bottom of my screen and am not sure what this means!? It's not dead pixels as I can see everything as normal (e.g the clock in the right hand corner) but it just looks like someone has comressed the screen into a smaller space and I cannot move the mouse into these black areas.
It is also the same when I go to the BIOS. Not sure if this is a regular problem with Acers (mine's an Aspire 3690) but I cannot find anything on the internet about it? I restored the system to factory settings but was still the same. Sometimes goes back to a full screen (however hasn't done it for a while though) and I have linked it to a monitor and the screen is full and does not have any black lines.
I recently installed Vista ultimate x64 (previously i used xp sp2) because i upgraded to 4gb of ram and xp doesn't recognize more than 3gb of ram. I'm a digital artist and i heavily use graphic tablet (Genius MousePen 8x6) for drawing in Photoshop CS3. I found x64 drivers for the tablet and i installed them and everything appeared to be ok. But when i draw for example a simple line, there is a delay to appear the line on screen. I mean delay in miliseconds, but is very annoying and it makes difficult to draw. In XP this was not happens, the line appeared in real time. I noticed when i plug the tablet that there is an annoying window called "Tablet PC Input Panel", this could be the problem? If yes how do i disable it?
View 4 Replies View RelatedWindows Update downloaded Vista sp1 and appeared to be installing it successfully. However at the end of the process the screen froze on a line showing this series of numbers: !! OXC190036 !! 4089/66075 (RESCINST.DLL)
I had to cut the power to turn the computer off and have been unable to boot up. Every attempt to boot fails and ends with the same line.
I was listening to the 911 call about the chimp attacking the woman in Conn. when all at once my computer screen had these horizontal lines running all across the screen!!I wasn't watching the video ,just listeneing to the audio, after about 12 0r 13 minutes is when this happened,it was in full screen mode with a picture of the chimp on it. It was just a picture, no moving or anything. This has happened before,(just the lines are a new development) it never shut off it,this time, just stopped responding. what could have caused this?? When it happened before, it just shut off
View 9 Replies View RelatedI just got a new PC with a Point Of View GTX280EXO Vga and a Samsung 2232GW 22" widscreen LCD monitor. I have set it at 1680x1050 res but the problem is I'm noticing a big amount of horizontal tearing! I have the latest Nvidia and monitor drivers installed.
I notice this in games and in Windows, for example when I scroll this forum screen downwards quickly, I notice the tearing on the right and left sides of the text area on the dark area of the background. Is this normal? I hooked up my old CRT 17" monitor and set it to the highest 1280x1024 res and this does not happen.
I sometimes get my main monitor blurry (I have 2). It looks like the resolution decreased and it even has these small horizontal lines flashing you can notice when you look real close to it. It resembles ?static?. To fix it, I can go to the nVidia control panel and switch the monitor configuration and then hit ?No? when it asks me if I want to keep the setting But then it will come back again later at random it seems.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI've got a scrolling issue. I have a Toshiba A215-S6804 laptop with Vista Home Premium SP1, IE7 and OpenOffice. I had installed a Dynex optical wireless notebook mouse and found that I could only vertically scroll in IE7. I assumed it was a driver issue because Dynex don't market this mouse specifically for Vista. So I bought a Logitech V320 wireless optical mouse and installed that yesterday. This one is supposed to scroll vertically and horizontally.
Well, in IE7 I have no problems scrolling (both ways), but in any other program I can not get it to scroll. I've tried OpenOffice document, WordPad, and even the help file from Logitech too - nothing will vertically scroll! I'm lost. I have downloaded the most recent software from Logitech with no luck. I have got to assume it's a Vista issue. Is anyone else having this problem?
I have a Wireless Laser Mouse 5000 and I'm having trouble getting the wheel scrolling tuned just right. I'd like to have a small scroll amount when I move the wheel slowly (to get really good precision) but then go really fast (screens at a time) when I "flick" the wheel to roll it quickly. The Intellipoint 6.2 software doesn't give me enough of a difference between slow scroll and accelerated fast scrolling. In fact, I don't see much of a difference, if any. I have the vertical scrolling speed almost set all the way to the left (slow). I have Enable accelerated scrolling checked, and under advanced, I have the slow/fast slider all the way to the right (fast). Seems as if this should be VERY exagerated--the dif between slow and accelerated should be VERY obvious.I searched the regsitry for any hint of settings. Nothing interesting or obvious under HKLMSoftwareMicrosoftIntellipoint, HKCUControl PanelMouse. Under HCKUControl PanelDesktop I can see WheelScrollLines but this seems to be the slow scroll rate.
It is at 2 and it changes when I change the slow/fast slider under the Mouse control panel vertical scrolling speed (nothing to do with acceleration).I can't find any registry setting that changes when I change the Accelerated Scrolling slow/fast slider. I find this very odd. Can anyone shed light on this? Is the vertical scroll acceleration a per-app setting? Is it something to do with how many scroll wheel interrupts happen per second and have to be set in a HID or mouse driver somewhere? I've tried MANY Microsoft mice to see if it something peculiar with this particular mouse and I see the same symptom with the new Natural Laser mouse, the Wireless Intellimouse Explorer 2.0.
When composing a new EMail the writing goes on and on. It never wraps to start a new line. There is no vertical scrollbar. How do I correct this?

-doulbed checked to make sure everything is unmuted.
-used windows vista sound recorder to record input sound...i was able to play it after.......

View 9 Replies View RelatedI recently exported all my mail from Windows mail, re-installed Windows, then imported my mail back in again, along with my account info and contacts. Everything has seemed fine, however approximately one in every 20-50 emails has a strange problem. The subject line will show a subject and sender, however the content pane will show a comletely different email, an email from a different sender and on a diferent date.
1. I might receive an email with a certain sender and subject on the 2nd of Oct 2009.
2. Click on the subject and see different email content from a different sender in the content pane.
3. Check the email headers with the subject selected (Ctrl+F3) and see the headers show it is from the person in the content pane and was sent on the 1st of Oct 2009.
I finally am ready to start recording LP's again. It worked great with my old XP machine. Now I have no input level when I open my Nero wave editor. I don't know where to find an adjustment for audio line in within Vista.

Under OE, my top line on a hardcopy was showing my name.

But at WM, it only features a (bold) underlined letter "X"!

View 9 Replies View RelatedIf I connect my Vista laptop to a power outlet in public, such as an airport terminal, library, or coffee shop, how viable is the threat from someone gaining access to my computer via a power-line network? If the threat is viable today, what is the best method of stopping it?
I know many people will say this is too unlikely and that other security threats are of much more concern to the average computer user, but with the increasing sophistication of ripoff artists either trying to steal your identity or pilfer your financial data I wouldn't assume the threat is not viable and not likely to increase in the future. After all, the federal government and the defense industry utilize TEMPEST, outlining the need for classified "Red Power" systems to protect computers from power-line monitoring and Van Eyck monitoring as well, versus "Black Power" systems that are connected to the public grid. In fact, not too long ago the French were caught conducting industrial espionage by tapping into a local power grid and accessing information via power lines.
When I enter the first letters of an email recipient's name, a selection of possible recipients appears in a box beneath the To: line. I appreciate this feature, but I would like to eliminate one of these alternative recipients, which is not even in my contacts list. How do I eliminate this unwanted recipient's address? Perhaps this box that ppears is simply a history of sent/received emails beginning with that particular letter -- if so, how do I edit this history?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI use a program called "Texmod" for a number of games to modify their textures. One game I am recently playing, however, requires that a command line switch be used to run the game client exe directly. Texmod doesn't support command line switching through it's own, so the game client refuses to work. Is there anyway (via Windows options or a third-party application) I can embed/hardcode the command line switch into the exe permanatly, so if the exe is ran, it'll always force load the command line switch?

what, exactly, should go in each line. I would also like to add lines of information to BGInfo - but that question will come after I get the above working.

View 4 Replies View RelatedTo protect this data I will not connect it to the internet. From what I read, if I buy a computer running Windows Vista where Vista is pre-activated by the retailer, then Vista may still try periodically to re-validate on line. If it fails then the computer will be made unusable by nag messages or worse. In other words Vista, including Vista SP1, is not usable on a computer that does not connect to the internet. Shop assistants have told me otherwise. can you clarify because I can afford neither the time nor money involved in choosing the wrong operating system.
