Increasing Partition Size In Ultimate...

Mar 28, 2009

I'm trying to go entirely Vista. I have two partitions, the C.: = partition is my Vista partition. The D.: partition it's what's left of = my XP installation. I wish to get rid of the XP installation and just = have one partition that is Vista. I have updated via Windows update, run = a "CHKDSK" did a cleanup on the current Vista partition and back things = up on my external USB using Norton ghost.

What is the best method of extending the C: partition? Do I simply = un-allocate the D: partition and then extend the C: Vista partition? Do = I have to format the D: partition?

Increasing Window Size?

Dec 23, 2009

When I go from my desktop to my internet homepage (yahoo), I sometimes get a small window , and sometimes get a whole-page size window. I prefer the whole-page size without having to click that middle restore button on the upper right-hand corner of my screen everytime I go to my homepage. First, what are the names that describe the smaller size window, and the larger one? Is that what a thumbnail is? Second, I must presume there's a setting somewhere, where I can toggle the whole-page size preference when I go from my desktop to homepage. Can you tell me if there is, and how do I get to it?

ReadyBoot: Would Increasing Size?

Aug 18, 2008

Was having a poke around Vista, and like always I found something new (even after 10 months of using it, I'm finding new stuff). I came across ReadyBoot and looked around the properties, and it mentions something about the amount of RAM it uses to boot up to load processes and drivers etc. The default size is 20MB, so I was thinking, the more stuff you have to load at bootup, would increasing this size result in any benefit at all? As once this is full, I guess it uses the hard drive, which would be considerably slower.

Increasing Scan Size Not Working

Sep 11, 2009

I'm trying to scan a newspaper article and send it as an attachment. The print is way too small to read. I've tried increasing the size within the document itself using MS Works as well as Open Office and it doesn't make it clearer. I've also tried increasing the size on my copier and that doesn't help.

Increasing Font Size Not Change

Mar 17, 2009

Last week I purchased my 1st laptop and thus entered the world of Vista after running Win XP home since it 1st came out. I'm a senior at 62, and my eyesight isn't the best anymore. I tried 1024x600 for larger font size but didn't like how graphics and Icons looked, so I went back to the default of 1288x600. My problem is the the font size including emails is just too small, so I'm forced to continually use Control + to increase it. Is there a way to change the font size so I don't have to do this. I'm running Firefox 3.07 and the latest version of Thunderbird. My laptop is a Toshiba Satellite L305D-S5934

Getting Rid Of Vista Ultimate In A Partition

May 15, 2010

I installed a Windows Vista Ultimate Eternity in a partition. In another partition I have Vista Home Premium.

Accidentally somebody formatted the Drive with the Vista Ultimate files. Of course when you restart the computer you still get to choose between the two systems.

How do I completely erase the Vista Ultimate so the computer doesn’t ask again which OS to use?

Increasing Partitions The EASY Way...

May 30, 2009

It seems today is my day for asking goofy questions

My windows 7 dual boot OS is the one I use to play all my games now, which by the way, I did not know this would be the case, hence, why I only made it about 40 GBs, leaving the Vista partition the bigger of the two.

Well, it has come time to install, yet, another game but I only have about 5 GBs left and the game needs 10GBs to install. Sure, I could uninstall the other 2 games I have already installed but, I am only half way done with them.

Anyways, I have plenty of space on my Vista partition and I would like to know if Acronis Disk Director is as easy to use as I have read. Aside from this, do I need to be worry about loosing any info (images, documents, etc, etc) on my Vista OS once I start the process or should I stop worrying so much.

Increasing Experience Index Score Over 5.9

Jul 27, 2009

Is there a way to increase the max WEI score to something higher than 5.9 in Vista? I don't mean the xml file hack where you can change the number for each category to anything you want, but rather an increase on the maximum limit (currently 5.9) that the WEI can display. Maybe change it to something around Win7's level? Is this possible?

I want to increase the size of Drive 1. What is the best way to do this?

I was thinking I could boot in Vista (Drive 0) and make a full backup of Drive 1. Upgrade Drive 1 to the large disk and then restore Drive 1 from backup. What other method can I use?

Full 2 GB Of Memory Not Increasing Score

Nov 8, 2007

I have a Dell Inspiron 9100 laptop which so far had 512 MB RAM and it ran beautifully under XP. Last month I upgraded to Vista Ultimate and got a WEI of 2.0 because my memory rating was 2.0. All the other scores were 3.7 and above. Here's the strange bit. Last week I upgraded the memory to 1.25 GB by removing one 256 MB module and inserting a 1GB pqi PC3200 DDR 400 module that I bought from Newegg. It had very good customer reviews. The score for memory dropped to 1.6 after the increase in memory! Today I removed the remaining 256MB and inserted another pqi 1GB to bring the total to max of 2GB. The score than increased to a lowly 2.5. My question is how come a full 2 GB of memory not increasing the score? How are people getting higher scores with 1GB on their machines? The Inspiron 9100 is a workhorse with very good specs and I expected it to get a very good WEI running vista.

This extreemly frustrating and I cant seem to find where I can enable that function. I know you can scroll your mouse over folders one at a time and a window will apear and you can see the size then, but thats just inconveniant for what Im doing. I need to be able to glance at multiple folder sizes constantly.

Disk Management: Remove The Recovery Partition And Then Extend The C: Partition

Oct 5, 2009

I recently acquired a Dell Studio XPS 435 desktop with Vista Ultimate as the OS. My plan is to upgrade to Windows 7 in the next couple of months or so. Therefore I won't need the Vista recovery partition on the hard drive. I am trying to eliminate it and add to the C: drive partition. Looking at my drive 0 in disk management I have from Right to left a C: partition 683Gb NTFS with the usual Healthy (System, Boot, Page File, Active, Crash Dump, Primary Partition). Directly to the left is the Recovery or D: drive which is 15Gb NTFS marked Healthy (Primary Partition) and finally to the left is the last partition of 71Mb marked Healthy (EISA Configuration). No idea what that is. Right clicking in the Recovery partition gives several options including: format, shrink volume, extend volume, delete volume, mark volume as active, change drive letter and paths, as well as help.

My question is how to remove the recovery partition and then extend the C: partition. My first thought is to format the recovery partition, delete the volume and then right click the C: drive partition and extend it but I really need some advice so I don't screw up the whole disk. For instance I have no idea what if anything hapens to the drive letters.I think maybe what I am calling partitions are really volumes so you can see I am over my head here.

Disk Management & EISA Partition: Delete And Remove To Unlock EISA Hidden Recovery Or Diagnostic Partition In Vista

Jan 14, 2009

I think I messed up my hard drive while trying to erase the EISA partition on it. It's a Gateway P7811-FX laptop with a single 200 GB hard drive. Before, I only had 1 main partition: the C: Drive (176.31 GB), along with the hidden 10 GB EISA partition. After making recovery disks, I followed this tutorial: Delete and Remove to Unlock EISA Hidden Recovery or Diagnostic Partition in Vista » My Digital Life

Following that, I went in Disk Management. The hidden partition showed up, but I couldn't extend the C drive to use the unallocated 10 GB, so I converted it to a simple 10 GB volume. Then I used Acronis Disk Director Suite and merged the two partitions. And now, I can't do anything in Disk Management. There's only one partition now (186.31 GB), but when I right click on it, there's no options to create, shrink, delete, or extend the partition. They were there before, but the only option that shows up is Help.

Under Status, it says Healthy (Active, EISA Configuration). I think I merged the partitions the wrong way, so now there's no "System, Boot, Page File..." partition. Everything is on the EISA partition. When I try to run Acronis, the program doesn't load up. I've tried using Diskpart but I can't create any new partitions either.

Also, would I set the partitions as Logical or Primary? Currently the drive is a Primary but if I partition it into 2 partitions what should they be?

Partition Tool: Not Shrink Partition

Mar 13, 2009

My C: drive is 1Tb in size (931.43Gb), with Used Space of 73.8Gb and Free Space of 857.65Gb. I want to shrink the C: partition down to 200Gb, and use this just for my OS and App files - I'm running Vista Ultimate 64 bit. This would then leave me with a new partition of c. 750Gb for my data files and documents etc. However, Vista will only offer to shrink the C: partition by around 260Gb as a maximum. It will not allow me to select a larger size than this. I've tried turning off System Restore / Shadow Copies, but this makes no difference. Any ideas why this should be, and what can I do? p.s. I've tried using Acronis Disk Director as well, but whilst I can select a new C: partition size of 200Gb, when the system reboots, nothing has changed, so ADD won't work either.

Partition Is Not System Partition

Mar 26, 2008

I've got a really weird scenario: I've installed Vista on one of my partitions, after a few days it got corrupted, so i've installed another version on a different partition (different disk as well). I've since deleted the first vista installation. Now vista works perfectly on my other partition, no problems. However, when looking at the disk management I can see that the old vista partition's status is:" Healthy (System, Active, Primary Partition)" whereas my working vista partition is: "Healthy (Boot, Page File, Active, Crash Dump, Primary Partition)" My vista partition is not a system partition. This causes some problems, as I can't format the old vista partition. Trying to disable the disk at startup and booting with the Vista DVD doesn't help (it recognizes some problem but when rebooting, nothing happens, no loading of anything). Is there a way to assign the 'System' attribute to another partition and/or to remove the 'System' attribute from a partition?
