I was wondering if it was possible to create shortcuts so that I could use my keyboard to toggle between power configs on my laptop. For instance, using my FUNC + F11 to go from POWER SAVER to MAX PERFORMANCE, etc.
View 5 RepliesI'm using a Logitech MX 5500 Revolution keyboard and mouse combo. As you may or may not know, the keyboard has special vista shortcut keys, such media center, 3d flip, gadgets, photo gallery etc. Anyways, I've noticed that these shortcut keys don't work, until I open up the logitech software that configures and calibrates all the buttons on the hardware. So pretty much once I've opened up the program these keys work, but on startup and before I open up the software they dont. I've installed the drivers and I've checked my msconfig to see wether or not the service is switched off on startup, and it is on.
View 9 Replies View RelatedMy Windows Vista isn't letting me adjust my power settings. Here is what the problem:
1. I click the battery icon in the bottom right of the start bar. Then I lick "More Power Options"
2. On the left panel of Power Options window, I click "Choose when to turn off the display" My computer tells me "Your power plan information isn't available" with a red X next to it. The same thing happens when I try to adjust any other power setting as well.
3. I click on the "Why can't Windows retrieve this information?" and it says stuff about my system administrator making changes, and that doesn't apply to me. I am the only user of the computer and my account is the administrator. I've never tinkered with any of these files to my memory................
I am wondering if there is a way to remap the Windows shortcut keys. A specific example is the [Win][E] opens Windows Explorer but I would like that key to open a different file manager. I have tried different key tweaking programs and the ones I have tried do not allow changing a combination of keys such as the Win key together with another key. I would like something that would also work in Windows XP.
View 7 Replies View RelatedIf you are a big Quick Launch user this is a cool tip for you. Instead of clicking on the shortcut icons, hold down the Windows key and then press the shortcut number. This works for the first 10 shortcuts.
For example, to start the first quick launch shortcut press and hold Windows Key + 1.

They replace shortcuts and after a reboot the non-working/"bad" keys change so its a different set of letters.
Sometimes F will open find computer while other times it wont,and sometimes L will lock the pc while other times it wont.
Ive unistalled,reinstalled,updated the drivers.Restored the system to two days ago.
Check all language settings.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a very annoying problem with my Intel DG45ID motherboard. I am noticing that my Vista power configuration setting are changing automatically! I will set my monitor to go to standby after 20-minutes and for the computer to go to sleep after 30-minutes of idle activity. Everything is fine for a week or two, then suddenly I notice that they are both set to "Never". Anybody have this issue? Alternately, is there some sort of log that I can look at to see what might have changed these settings?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI type about 40 words per minute, but when typing on my home computer it does not enter all the keys that I hit. It is no particular key but more like there is a micro-second stall in the computer somehow that prevent the keyboard stroke from being recognized. I notice it most while using internet explorer probably because that is what I use most, but have had it happen while using other programs. After typing a page or so, I look to the screen to find a dozen or so misspelled words due to this problem. I have Windows Vista as the operating system.

Several of these keys are connected to the symbols above the numbers on the keyboard that require the shift button to be pressed i.e.. Shift + 2 should result in @ (ampersand) but I get the ? symbol ! what I can do to correct this? The computer is nearly new. It is running Vista Home Premium.

1. some of my keyboard keys produce the wrong symbols! if i press:
*shift+numeric key 2, i get quotation mark (") -- i should get this "@"symbol, right?
*shift+single quotation mark('),i get the commercial at(@)instead of the(")quotation mark.
*shift+numeric key 3, i get the pound sign(?)instead of the number sign ()
*shift+(`) i don't know the name of the symbol but the key is located above the(tab)key, i get this symbol"?"--instead of the tilde sign"~"(well, i think that's what it's said in microsoft word's insert symbol)
note: the keyboard confusion only effects the "number 2", "number 3", '(single quotation) key, and the tilde (~) key; BUT only when they are combine with SHIFT key.
2. keyboard shortcuts are not functioning, but this second problem happens ONLY on windows explorer. (it does not effect microsoft word,notepad, or internet explorer):
*ctrl+a -- so i can't select all files in the folder/window explorer.
*ctrl+t -- so i can't cut files to put them somewhere else.
*ctrl -- so i can't pick multiple files, randomly.
this second problem is very troublesome cause i cant move or copy multiple file!

My wired keyboard had a power button, this one has no power button...you know that you can shutdown windows with a push of a button. To bring gadgets to the front using a keyboard shortcut Press the Windows Logo key +SPACEBAR. I have also read the same thing throughout the web which comfirms that this is the right keyboard shortcut.
I have all the information that tells me how to open windows sidebar using a keyboard shortcut the problem is nothing happens when I do it. I went to my other computer running vista and as soon as I did the shortcut windows sidebar popped right up. The computer I am using is about 1 week old, the first thing I did was update it so it should be fully updated and I can confirm right now it has SP2 and windows update says there are no updates available (which is surprising since vista seems to have hourly updates). There is nothing wrong with the windows key or space bar key as they both work independently and for other shortcut combinations.
Back in Windows XP if you were not on a domain CTRL + ALT +DEL would open up Task Manager. In Windows Vista that key combination opens the secure desktop that allows you to do many more thing. To directly to Task Manager, hit CTRL + SHIFT + ESC.

Just gone to view the pics again and says the following: The drive or network connection that the shortcut (then the image number) - Shortcut.Ink refers to is unavailable. Make sure that the disc is properly inserted or the network resource is available and then try again. I have no idea what this means but deleted the pictures of the camera as I viewed them and they were fine.

I go into adjust screen resolution and it wont let me adjust anything, the slide bar, in advanced, and under settings. I can't change anything even trying to load the software for the monitor fails?

But the score for "Graphics" is still 2.4. I went to "adjust visual effects" and clicked "adjust for best performance." And so my screen looks ifferent now--I gather this is "Classic Windows," as opposed to "Aero." But the score is still the same: 2.4! What do I have to do to make it go higher?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI hope this is the correct group. I did a search and could not find what I was looking for. I used to be able to adjust the volume on my laptop speakers with the FN and up/down arrows, but now I can't. I tried to figure out how to configure the
buttons, but I don't want to screw anything else up.
I finally am ready to start recording LP's again. It worked great with my old XP machine. Now I have no input level when I open my Nero wave editor. I don't know where to find an adjustment for audio line in within Vista.
