View 5 RepliesThe Windows Experience Index was 2.0, held down because of "memory operations per second." So I just added two 1 GB memory modules. Now the score for Memory is 4.6 (yay!). But the score for "Graphics" is still 2.4. I went to "adjust visual effects" and clicked "adjust for best performance." And so my screen looks ifferent now--I gather this is "Classic Windows," as opposed to "Aero." But the score is still the same: 2.4! What do I have to do to make it go higher?

Just gone to view the pics again and says the following: The drive or network connection that the shortcut (then the image number) - Shortcut.Ink refers to is unavailable. Make sure that the disc is properly inserted or the network resource is available and then try again. I have no idea what this means but deleted the pictures of the camera as I viewed them and they were fine.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have Vista Home Premium 64 bit. It has recently started going ding from time to time for no apparent reason. There is no dialog that pops up, and I haven't found any activity that alters the frequency of occurence, however the occurances are extremely erratic on one occasion there were several so close together they overlapped, I might get two or more in a five minute period or none for hours. I think they are becoming more frequent, but that could just be that I notice them more. Rebooting has no effect. AVG doesn't find anything.
I have found nothing that tells me why it is doing it - there are no entries in the system events that correspond to the dings. The only thing I have been able to establish is that taskeng.exe does access the file "C:WindowsMediaWindows Ding.wav" at the same time. This instance of taskeng is running under the logged in user credentials. Looking in Task Scheduler the task status doesn't change after a ding - indicating that an existing task, or the engine itself, is responsible. The list of running tasks shows the following MsCtfMonitor(Hidden, runs at user logon) SystemSoundService (runs at user logon)SystemTask (runs at system start)TMM (runs at user logon)UserTask (runs at user logon)
The last entry for these under history is "task started", except for SystemTask, and UserTask, which every 8 hours are rerun so show additional start and stop entries. The only errors are that UserTask fails to stop, and is restarted, when the system is shutting down, and SystemStart fails when the system starts due to a lack of a network connection, but does start shortly thereafter.ra.com/mail/
I have seen many comments on the net about a problem when clicking on hyperlinks in Outlook email or tables in Word, a message comes up "The operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in effect on this computer" I have admin rights and have tried all sorts to find out why this is happening without success.

But for some reason IE now fires up and loads the website when I click on a link or favorite. Favorites used to have Firefox icon next to them but these have now changed to IE icon. I have tried "Make Firefox your default browser" in it options but this has no effect. I don't want to use IE if it can be helped but don't know what to do to go back to how things were.

The computer is still running but not the screen. The only thing to do it hold the on off button on the tower and reboot. This happened a few times, and I was going to contact my supplier. Then it stopped for about two weeks. But it has just happened again?

1. I click the battery icon in the bottom right of the start bar. Then I lick "More Power Options"
2. On the left panel of Power Options window, I click "Choose when to turn off the display" My computer tells me "Your power plan information isn't available" with a red X next to it. The same thing happens when I try to adjust any other power setting as well.
3. I click on the "Why can't Windows retrieve this information?" and it says stuff about my system administrator making changes, and that doesn't apply to me. Taskbar thumbnail preview in Windows Vista is a great new feature that allows you to quickly see a window without having to fully open it from the taskbar. Instead, you can just hover your mouse over the taskbar item and a small preview window will be displayed.
I have been asked many times  if it is possible customize the size of the preview thumbnails. Many have expressed the desire to have larger previews so they can better see the window. Finally, I have found a way....

I have accessed the mixer and tried to make it tollerable, but have failed. There is no direct bass and treble adjustment, and there is not a "user" or "custom" setting. There are only presets, the problems with these presets, is that they work in certain situations, but not in others. Any advise? Am I looking in the worng place? Can I put software in place to adjust the levels indepent of each other? I am using the onboard sound card on an Abit IP35 Pro, and I am using Home Premium 64.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI've got it set up to my tastes. That said, one MAJOR annoyance I've come across is that no matter what I do, I cant keep the custom order of my 'All Programs' and 'Favorites' menus. I'm allowed to drag and drop in the order that I like, but every time I restart it's always put back in alphabetical order. I've unchecked the 'sort by alphabetical' in the 'customize start menu' panel, and I've made sure none of the folders are sorted by name... but
nothing seems to do it.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm wondering if there is a simple way to take your Vista Installation Disc and use it to create a custom installation disc that also includes updated drivers and updated hotfixes. The goal would be that during a clean install, those updated drivers and Windows Updates are installed automatically. For a specific example, I use a USB Wireless Adapter. If I could create a custom windows disc that includes those drivers, then I my USB Wireless Adapter would be recognized and I could therefore allow Windows to connect to the Internet during Setup to see if there are any hotfixes and updates. I've read a little about vLite but don't know if I trust it completely.
