View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm using a Logitech MX 5500 Revolution keyboard and mouse combo. As you may or may not know, the keyboard has special vista shortcut keys, such media center, 3d flip, gadgets, photo gallery etc. Anyways, I've noticed that these shortcut keys don't work, until I open up the logitech software that configures and calibrates all the buttons on the hardware. So pretty much once I've opened up the program these keys work, but on startup and before I open up the software they dont. I've installed the drivers and I've checked my msconfig to see wether or not the service is switched off on startup, and it is on.

To bring gadgets to the front using a keyboard shortcut Press the Windows Logo key +SPACEBAR. I have also read the same thing throughout the web which comfirms that this is the right keyboard shortcut.
I have all the information that tells me how to open windows sidebar using a keyboard shortcut the problem is nothing happens when I do it. I went to my other computer running vista and as soon as I did the shortcut windows sidebar popped right up. The computer I am using is about 1 week old, the first thing I did was update it so it should be fully updated and I can confirm right now it has SP2 and windows update says there are no updates available (which is surprising since vista seems to have hourly updates). There is nothing wrong with the windows key or space bar key as they both work independently and for other shortcut combinations.
I was wondering if it was possible to create shortcuts so that I could use my keyboard to toggle between power configs on my laptop. For instance, using my FUNC + F11 to go from POWER SAVER to MAX PERFORMANCE, etc.

View 0 Replies View RelatedI downloaded some pictures from digital camera this morning and saved them on my desktop as I always do. Viewed the pictures & all was ok. Just gone to view the pics again and says the following: The drive or network connection that the shortcut (then the image number) - Shortcut.Ink refers to is unavailable. Make sure that the disc is properly inserted or the network resource is available and then try again. I have no idea what this means but deleted the pictures of the camera as I viewed them and they were fine.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI've just re-imaged my hp lappy because of the problems outlined in this post. I'm hoping that the problems were software rather than hardware related, and if that's the case, it might be malware related. However, it occurred to me that there might be another way that I could have messed up my system. I use Ccleaner pretty regularly to clean up the registry, mostly a habit I developed on XP machines, and I've never had a problem. But I was listening to Leo LaPorte the other day and he said he doesn't touch his registry with cleaners because of the problems it causes.
View 9 Replies View RelatedMicrosoft has just announced that MS-Windows 7 (I like the name Borg) will have a touch screen feature to it. We know that from the Longhorn/Vista over promising and then cutting features out like WINFS. So if MS really wants a late 2009 early 2010 release will MS cut features again just to get it out the door? Or will Windows 7 really just be Windows Vista 1.2 ie service pack 2 of Vista.
I think it will be just Vista Service pack 2 with a few newer features for newer devices. MS knows people hate vista but i love it since i can now cheat at solitare and when you copy files and a file is in use it now asks you what you want it to do instead of just crapping out on you.
I am user of vista 64 bit ultimate until I upgraded to iPod touch. Touch is not recognized by vista (64bit) and says I need a 64 bit iTunes s/we. This has really put me in a dilemma. I use dual boot with WINXP Pro and Vista 64 bit ultimate. I have been using the dual boot to XP occasionally for using my digital camera as there are no 64 bit vista drivers for it. My iPod touch works fine under XP and now I have to use the XP all the time to use iTunes/iPod touch. Anyone has any thoughts/clues on when there will be support for vista 64 bit from apple? Options I can considering are to re-install 32 bit version of vista which will solve the iPod problem; I guess MS will not allow me to dual boot 32 bit and 64 bit on the same machine?

When I go to the device manager and I look at the properties of my Ipod (under Portable Devices) I found that the Device Assembly Description is Digital Still Camera. Consistent with this when I look at the Ipod at My Computer it shows an icon of a camera. This issue has happened now with two different Ipod Touch devices, but does not happen with other Ipod models (nano or Video). how to change the device properties?

If you also want to put your favorite videos on iPod Touch just follow these steps:
"Add" video files

View 6 Replies View RelatedA number of my staff at school have been experiencing difficulties using Windows Vista to attempti access to the netwowk server remotely through what the department calls 'terminal services'. After some investigation, it seems that what is necessary is to disable user access control, reboot so that the new settings can take effect, and then access the server using the driver the department supplies.
I presume of course that at the conclusion of a user session, if one wants UAC enabled, one must essentially follow one of these procedures in reverse. Pretty cumbersome, and unlikely to appeal, I guess. I was wondering if it might be simpler to have a special user on one's Vista machine that has UAC disabled, so that when one wanted to access the server, one could simply log on as that user.
Is there a way to do this? Say if I wanted to disable 3 out of the 4 cores on an AMD Phenom X4 processor.
Is this totally dependent on my motherboard BIOS and CPU itself?
I am trying to disable Inprivate Browsing, but a search always brings me to the tutorial for keeping on or off Inprivate Filtering....are these things the same? I am confused. I can't seem to find simple directions for disabling Inprivate Browsing. Maybe somebody can shed some light on this?

2) after disabling page file my RAM usage would start at the same 33% and after some time easily get over 50%. even upto to 68-70% which it never touched before.
3) there was also a very visible performance boost.
i measured RAM usage with the multi metre sidebar gadget. it is not a one day usage. i have used pagefile for over a year and no paging for a month.

View 9 Replies View RelatedSomeone has suggested a possible 'cure' for the many Win Mail probs I am experiencing would be for me to:-
1, Uninstall my McaFee
2. Then install another anti-virus prog ("AVG") disabling "just the part that scans email".
Sorry if I am being dumb but surely that would result in my leaving myself wide open to even more probs (i.e. importing viruses)?
New behavior on new Vista HP 64bit installation. Was working fine 4 days ago; had been shut down until last evening. Have installed minimum additional apps, all reportedly 64bit compliant. IE 8 message when starting IE - "Last browsing session closed unexpectedly, Restore previous session or open homepage?" Either choice results in "IE has stopped working, Windows checking for solution"... "A problem caused IE to close, Windows will close program and notify you if solution". IE closes, no solution found. Have tried disabling add-ons, have reset IE settings to default, have disabled McAfee internet security. Have run antivirus scans, malware scans (all clean), my System Restore points were (unknowingly) turned off so my most recent restore point is from last evening, AFTER the problem began. What next? I'm at the point where I COULD run clean install of Vista HP.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI use my laptop both at home and at work. I have mapped a network drive to a shared folder on one of my home computers. Now, logically, every time I use my laptop at work, I get a balloon message saying not all network drives could be restored (or similar, I'm translating from dutch). I know that, and I'm not expecting it to be. I just don't want to do it by hand every time I log on to my home network.
Is it possible to disable that balloon? I've found this old (2004) article for XP that allows disabling ALL notification balloons: but most balloons actually contain useful information. I only want to disable this specific balloon tooltip. Using: Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit, without SP1 (haven't received it through Windows Update yet, and I'm not downloading it manually).
I have a domain with several Vista boxen with users who are local Admins but not Domain Admins (accomplished using Restricted Groups). I need to ensure that these users do not disable User Account Control on their machines as I am sure they will be tempted to do so. Is there a way I can do this (perhaps through Group Policy)?
I found several UAC-related settings and enforced them, but nothing stops them from disabling it entirely. Is there anything I can do besides the obvious choice of not granting them Administrative privileges?
I accidently unplugged my external hard drive from the USB port, (got it mixed up with headset). When I plugged it back in the "Safely Remove Hardware" icon popped up. I unticked/unchecked, Display device components. Rebooted, and the Icon still appeared. I find it annoying and want to hide it.
